Hi everyone. I was just banded on April 9. My staples were removed one week later. Most of the incisions look good, but one of them is pulling apart slightly. The opening of the incision is not very deep, but it is open. Did anyone else have this problem, and if you did, what did you do? I don't really care if the scar is a little bigger because of this, but I do worry about infection. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Pre-Opt Diet Question
dlinnh replied to KatieOkieDokie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just started liquid 2 week pre-op myself. Today! If today is any indication of what it's going to be like, I would rather starve! I have to drink 5 HMR shakes a day - and water - that's it. They are making me gag - they are too thick and foamy. I just had fat free can of chicken broth, because I can't drink the shakes anymore. I don't know how I'm going to get through thirteen more days - seriously! I have already lost about 10lbs on my own and I would much rather continue with what I have been doing and then do clear liquids for a couple of days before surgery (11/12) but nope, not in their plan. Oh well, just bitching about it I guess. I'll have to get over it and keep my eye on the "prize" Good luck everyone -
All of a sudden I'm having cramps on right side just below ribs. No new foods or anything. Anyone else experience this type of thing? My wife wants me to go to the ER but its not that bad, just uncomfortable.

I had my 1st fill today, the dr. said she was going to do 1 to 1.5 ccs but ended up getting 5ccs because I needed more restriction. I thought it was Christmas, I am super happy. She also told me that there was no fill when the surgery was done, no wonder I was still so hungry. I had the band on 9/4, 1st appt was 2 weeks later (but no fill, just follow up) and had already lost 14 pounds, as of today I gained back 5 but I am in no way sad or depressed about it. I now have 5 ccs so I am sure there is alot of restriction and can't wait for the pounds to shed!

At this stage you should be 5 to 6 weeks out and on a pureed diet/soft foods. You should be measuring your food and be consuming 3 - 4 ounce increments in each sitting. I had surgery 4 months ago and I can only eat 2 ounces in each sitting, but I eat 4 - 5 times a day and smaller portions. I was sick and regurgitating all the time, because I was getting to full at 3 - 4 ounces of food. And what also helps me is that I eat with a baby spoon and fork so I know I'm not consuming to much at a time. It's just a lifestyle change you will get use to it, and just try to eat slow and maybe start at 2 ounces, your body will let you know when you can consume more or need to back off. It gets better:)

fat free/low fat rigatta cheese with a little sauce and fat free mozerella melted in was divine when i had my band and went through this. I still have a week before these foods but its not so bad because I think I really didnt eat much with the band so my body was more used to it!

Mom 22 years my senior is in better shape than I am !
Angel720 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So this was humiliating, I know I am overweight but I have always been looking out for my mom who had always been overweight and older of course. Back track one year and she had her gastric sleeve surgery, I went with her to Mexicali and she had her sleeve done by Dr. Aceves. I went with her but at the time was not convinced this was something I needed to do. Ha! As she lost weight, got more active and looked and felt much better I started debating more and more about it. Even my husband was on board before I was, a little stubborn I am , I know. A month and a half ago I had surgery with Dr. Wilhelmy in Mexicali too. I had already been there once and knew this was the place I was to have my surgery done too. I am only a month and half out of surgery and have already lost 34.5 lbs. I still have a lot to go but feel great and really feel I will get to my goal of losing 140 lbs. So this weekend I am with my mom and we had to either climb 3 floors up or take the elevator. Feeling energized and motivated by my weightloss I am all for the stairs. Well, I guess I need to try them again in a month or two. Let me just say that I do walk 2-3 times a week and it is not the same to walk around the track and to climb stairs. By the 2nd flight I am out of breath and feeling dizzy, my mom??? doing great, ready to continue. I could not take the elevator at this point, a pride thing, so I sucked it up and kept climbing LOL I can't believe what my pride made me do! I was lucky I did not faint, I felt that bad. Felt really prod of her, she has lost over 100 lbs and deserves all she has accomplished but still felt pretty bad. if I look at the bright side I did make it which I am sure 34 lbs ago would not have been possible. Still have a long way to go and catching up to my mom will help me keep on track! -
I am almost 3 weeks post op sleeve. I sometimes feel hungry. Is this normal? Part of me thinks maybe my sleeve didn't work. It also maybe gas!? Anyone else feel like this?

I just made my own last week for my husband.. since we had a fresh basil plant. Mmm I used the fresh mozz. too and a little sauce. Really good and thin/crisp. I used a pillsbury pizza dough from the dairy aisle and it was okay. But I'll bet a homemade one is even better. Gonna check it out, thanks!

Just got back from a 3 week trip for work - while there I had to buy some new clothes and that was great . I also could relax in the tub - still not as comfortably as I would like, but enough to fall asleep in there! The big Nsv for me was getting out of my hot tub and grabbing my usual towel that doesn't quite fit around me and what do you know!?! It more than fit around me! I had a good 6 inch overlap where there used to be about a 4 inch gap! I haven't been paying attention to a scale - being out of town makes that near impossible - when I got back I had lost another 10 lbs in that 3 weeks and I was bloated from that time of month and from travelling. I celebrated with a nice pedicure Sent from my iPhone using VST

Only one fill, 14 weeks out, 31 # and feeling good...exercise is working, not hungry much...can see the difference...50# to go.:bored: Eating mostly what I should but sometimes eating other things in moderation. Water aerobics helps a lot, treadmill is good but boring. Anyone else banded in March?

This sounds weird but I am 3 weeks post op and I almost feel like my stomach is now in my back. I am used to feeling hungry and that real full feeling as a stomach discomfort. Now it is feeling more like a back discomfort. When I take a too big a bit, dont chew enough etc.. I feel it in my back. I mentioned it to the nutritionist today (who has never had a lap band) and she had never heard of such a thing. Am I alone in this?

Ex-Smokers...Cravings?
elizabethowen79 replied to deedeemuffin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved Nov 6 and quit smoking probably 3 weeks before surgery. I have had cravings also, and several times have had a puff from one of my mother's cigs (she is living with me right now) and it tasted/felt gross, disgusting, icky. Yep I kept trying thinking it would be good but it was not!!!! I'm not recommending trying a smoke, just telling you how I have dealt with it. Also a good thing to think of, after going through the surgery so we can be healthier and feel better, why continue to hurt our bodies with cigarettes? Wish you the best of luck -
HW 334 lbs. SW 316 lbs CW 291 lbs. I'll be 6 weeks post op tomorrow and I feel so tired and sleepy. I feel like the days are so long and I just want to go home and sleep. I know I gave up coffee the day of the surgery, but I'm so ready to go back to my two cups a day! Anybody else feeling so tired just a month after the surgery?? Regards, Lucy

5 weeks out and I am falling down tired! My recovery has been really easy and I do get tired more easily than normal but the past few days have been terrible. Slept 14 hours last night and I'm hoping to get that in tonight too... (exciting New Years plan right??) Is this all part of the recovery process or should I make an apointment?

It is normal for the most part. Give it a good two weeks. You'll have good days and bad days, but eventually it all subsides and before you know it things start to come together and you feel better with each days passing. Take it easy, take it slow and don't do any heavy lifting or strenuous work. Patience will be your toughest battle. Once you master that, life gets much easier.

At 3 days post op I was on clear liquids...for 7 days to be exact and the two weeks on full liquids. What has your Dr instructed you can have? That way it will be easier to make suggestions according to your plan. Congrats on being sleeved!!!!

I'm 3 weeks post op today and have been on puréed food since Sunday. Some things I've had are refried beans with some cheese melted on top, puréed tuna and egg salad, ricotta cheese with some marinara and cheese on top, as well as various puréed fruits and veggies. All have gone well. It's amazing though how little it takes to feel full.

My journey... from Banding in Mexico to Sleeve on 03/17/2015 in the USA
jamaicanchinadoll posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Where to begin. Well much like most of you we are all chasing that dream. I was always the fat girl in my crew cute for a fat girl and never really felt like I was confident or cute enough to hang with my mom and skinny sisters. In 2009 I decided at 327 pounds that enough was enough. I researched the band and at the time it was relatively new. I save up and went down to Mexico so very I'll prepared but no one could talk me out of it. So there I was on a plane like no turning back now. So I had the surgery returned home and actually from 2009 to 2013 I never had a fill... bad I know my band helped me lose 127 ponds but I was miserable couldn't eat lived off of snacks that was my life for years but it became a health issue. I went to a US doctor we will call him dr asshole, because we were to do a band to Sleeve revision. At that time I had alot of a car tissue so he removed my band and I woke up totally unprepared to go payout life without a tool in place to help me, since I never really learned discipline with the band. As soon as I could eat again I went in and gained 60-70 pounds in a year or less. I was super depressed as all my cute clothes I could no longer fit almost like I was being teased. So I started to research the sleeve and almost went back to Mexico but I have insurance so I decided to take the 4 month route after Tons of appointments I finally was sleeved on 03/17/2015. Since my pre op I was 267 and as of today my one week follow up I've lost 21 pounds. What an emotional ride. I can't lie I had a breakdown like shoot will i regret this but it's to late so I have to now work it to the best of my abilities. At my follow up my doctors told me that normal to feel this way and to continue to push forward and I will see progress. So here is to the new me and us and any encouragements questions comments are greatly appreciated. -
Sometimes your pouch gets grouchy too. At those times it rejects food and theres nothing you can do. Swelling is common in the beginning and the pouch wont fit hardly anything. My biggest struggles were around week 3 when my pouch was swollen.

Quitting Protein Shakes
Indymom replied to ashleyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is awesome and really helpful! I am not a 'sweets' person and honestly the idea of drinking those Protein shakes just makes my stomach churn, even though I haven't tried any of them. I'm hoping my nutritionist will have some good suggestions at my class next week. -
Isn't it fun to take some time in the middle of a week and "play". Last week it was over 100 here for 3 days, I had to add water to the pool to cool it down, LOL
