Protein sample packs, any?
Kindle replied to meyouus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unjury has sample kit on their website. Or check out Nashua Nutrition. They have dozens of protein powder single serving samples they sell for $1.95 each. You can usually find Syntrax Nectar single serving sample packs on Amazon and eBay. -
My husband is very supportive of the surgery and has definitely been there for me. But one thing he does that drives me crazy is to question/judge my food choices. I didn't have a protein shake for breakfast and he immediately said I shouldn't eat my breakfast of fruit and cottage cheese. I explained to him that I'm two months out and I don't have to drink a shake, I just do for the convenience. When I went to heat up my lunch, he suspiciously asked me what I was cooking. It was grilled chicken, but we do have leftover fried chicken in the fridge and I know that's what he thought I was going for. Granted, there have been maybe three times I've eaten something I "shouldn't" have over the past two months (really just the past three weeks) - a bite of bacon, a bite of a cupcake, a small piece of fried fish I picked most of the breading off of. But overall I've been very good about sticking to the plan and I've lost nearly 60 pounds. I understand his intentions are good, but I don't want to feel like he's monitoring everything I'm eating. Plus, he's the one bringing chips, sweets, and fried food into the house and I've been great about resisting temptation. I understand that I haven't made good choices in the past, otherwise I wouldnt need the surgery! But I wish he'd trust my judgement. Thanks for letting me vent!

Sosewsue61 replied to SeaQuin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Lesley, You sound like you are headed in the right direction. Go buy some new drawers woman!!! Which cruise did you take? I will be going on a 9 day cruise 4 months out from surgery. I have been sleeved for 3 days and doing ok - some gas pain and rumbling, a little tired. Just today I have managed 11/2 protein drinks and some vitamin water and broth - no picnic but managing. -
New Pre-Op Transfer Addiction?
Catracks replied to bogeydog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On her advice I bought a Bento box, mini muffin pan, 1.5 cup food processor, small ice cream maker, Torani syrups in about 15 flavors, and pro Max Protein powder in chocolate and vanilla. I have also gone through every page and copied the recipes I like. She taught me that eating with the sleeve can be nutritious and fun. After her recipes I couldn't figure out why people didn't like Protein shakes. -
Make sure you are getting enough protein, liquids, and that you're taking your supplements - this is vitally important. It'll pass soon, hang in there.

Grocery List-inc. vitamins, broths and shakes
wildrose1966 replied to Kped's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't go too crazy .......... I spent a fortune on what I might need post op..........bought $50 worth of unjury, couldn't stomach it, gave it away, bought carnation instant bfast on recommendation from my surgeon, couldn't stomach it, threw it out, bought high Protein pudding from GNG, couldn't stomach it returned it. I have enough gasx in my drawer to treat everyone on this board, I was over prepared. Pre op, I was on Optifast only so didn't have much of a selection. Post surgery, I would have been happy to go back on optifast, but just have Soups, Jello, heating pad, gasx, stool softener and take it day by day and introduce things in one at a time. Good luck. -
Sushi is soft food but the rice and the nori will be a problem so stick to sashimi and know it is a great source of Protein. Try more tender fish like salmon or tuna and skip the octopus and sea urchin for now.

TASTE LIFE ALMOND JOY CANDY BAR! SERIOUSLY
blondebomb posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took a suggestion on a protein drink..the chike chocolate truffle mix an I bought some coconut flavoring...OMG!! super!!! I'm having it now...keep the suggestions coming! Thank you... -
You're rushing it !! Still too early, although my "Tastes" for foods, along with some "Cravings" began to change almost immediately after surgery, and continued to as I got my band adjustments. I used to love salads, but now stay away from them. I simply lost my taste for them, plus they fill me up very fast. Cannot get through a small dinner salad....and then that will finish me with my entire meal before I get to the entree, which will be the Protein i seek. I prefer to drink my vegetables...and /or I will snack on raw vegetables along with a dip while watching TV, etc.

Hang in there I know it is tough. I had a very hard time after surgery since I was only allowed broth, Jello and Protein shakes. I had to start the diet 2 weeks before the surgery so 4 weeks total. I wont lie, toward the end of my liquid phase I started having a little bit of fat free cottage cheese and I ended up having some fat free, smooth blended pea Soup. The shakes started making me sick to my stomach so I had to do something to get protein in. I dont suggest you go against your doctor orders, just sharing my experience. You are doing great! -
Can't stomach protein drinks
johnlatte replied to JennyBeth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you looked into a protein product called Plant Fusion? 100% vegan, no milk products the proteins come from peas, artichokes and amaranth. Some sleevers to become lactose intolerant for a bit after surgery. Didn't happen in my case, but I know that others have had the issue. Plant Fusion is at GNC and at Amazon. -
If you don't like "shakes" try the syntrax nectar. I bought the variety pack to try them all. Flavors like lemonade, iced tea, fuzzy navel. They aren't creamy, more like a regular beverage. I mix them with ice and water, they are 100 calories, sugar free and 23g protein. I'm pre op and just giving them a try to see what I like, and so far, so good. [emoji1303]

Post surgery weight gain options
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to Lynndi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are asking if there are options to help you gain weight, but I suspect you really are asking if there are options to help you continue to lose weight or to fight weight gain? One suggestion is to go back to basics if things get out of hand--substitute protein shakes for one or two meals. You can also track your food intake if you don't usually do that and see exactly how many calories, how much protein, etc., you are getting. I find the MyFitnessPal website useful for this. If I've misunderstood your question, I apologize. -
I'm not post-op yet but as someone who has always had a sweet tooth and cravings, this is something I do worry about after surgery. I know that when I've done very low carb diets, the cravings went away, but as soon as I allowed myself the smallest amount of something creeping in, they came back with a vengeance. So maybe look at what you are eating and see if there is something a little too carby that could be triggering this. Even the Protein shakes (and esp bars) sometimes have too many carbs. Even some artificial sweeteners can raise blood sugar in some people, acting just like sugar. Right now, pre-op, when I crave something sweet after eating (years of dessert have conditioned me) I eat a small dill pickle. The sourness does cancel out the sweet cravings.

I'm wondering how to get enough calories in. I started pureed foods today and so far have had 3/4 of a scrambled egg and 1/2 C. of Protein pudding. Add in my Isopure and that is only 310 calories, 60g. of protein. I plan on some thinned out refried Beans with a little cheese for dinner, but I am pretty sure I won't get in very much before I am stuffed.
-
Im doing ok. I don't think I'm going to be ready to move to the pureed food stage on thurs. I'm still having some trouble with really thick liquids like my rtd protein shake and cream of chicken soup. Other than that I'm doing awesome.

Feeling Discouraged
PatientEleventyBillion replied to ashes_202's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What really matters is comorbidities associated with being fat. If your liver is fine, if you don't have advancing diabetes to a point where you take insulin, have some type of heart condition, etc., I don't see the urgency to get an RNY done. Even with me I had 3 surgeons (my surgeon in particular who, after speaking to many people who work with him, noted he LOVES the RNY) all convince me to go sleeve mainly because my liver fibrosis stage 3 and diabetes (which are definitely a big health risk) were very much under control and quickly improving. Post-op the VSG gives you more freedom without the RNY side-effects, plus the inherent risk to both the RNY surgery, which is greater than VSG, and the risk/complications later on if you require any major surgery in that area, should always be taken into consideration. People in the private industry who push certain surgeries may be doing so for their own benefit and not yours. If your surgeon recommends bypass get a list of why and possibly get a second opinion. If it's based on general assumptions rather than your personal conditions (if any) then it's doubtful that's much of a necessity. Bypass is supposed to be for people with more serious issues necessitating the increased risk of complications. That's why for people aged 50+ I see it's very much more often RNY. Keep in mind too that any good surgeon will offer a follow-up on a VSG so that in the case it doesn't work out as planned an RNY is still an option. This is the case with me.. am offered RNY after 1 year if I don't like the way the VSG is going. -
:confused2:I'm wondering if anyone has tried the protein powder, UNJURY? I haven't receiced what I ordered yet, but I'm wondering if I could get some opinions on this. Thank you!

Were u always overweight or become as an adult?
BeagleLover replied to marfar7's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was very skinny through college. Started picking up weight due to stress at work... pretty awful. The only fun part of the day was going out to lunch. That + sitting at work, sitting in night class and sitting in the car going and coming back from school and the weight steadily piled on. I had gestational diabetes that was very well controlled; I lost 25lbs. with each pregnancy (I was ready to eat the table!). Gained weight back again and have struggled to keep my weight in check. I'm retired now, so I don't have work stress anymore, but find it hard to be motivated and able to move around a lot. Since finding out about the Protein shakes, I got my hopes up that I could do this without having a large portion of my stomach removed. Reality check--- I know the statistics on being able to lose t all the weight and KEEP IT OFF for good are very low. So I'm going to go through with this and hopefully can get rid of diabetes, sleep apnea and non-alcoholic fatty liver. -
I was banded 2/1/2008 and mine is starting to thin. But I know it's because I haven't been getting my protein shakes down. I am trying to push myself to get my protein, but since my second fill, getting anything down has been a struggle.Thanks-Jessica

I hate that it's happening to y'all, but I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I get protein. I try to make sure I get plenty, so I don't think that's it, either. My hair is really thick, and no one has really noticed except me. My husband did say it looked a little thinner, but that's what I get for asking.

Today starts my liquid diet
LoryLosesXS replied to jennietop's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand your angst. I had to do 30 days. 14 days before and Post Op. The first 4 days are torturous. They were for me. I'm not gonna lie. Sugar depressed Popsicles and Jello got me through. Along with being resolute that I was making a decision to change my life for the good forever. I also wanted to ensure my doc had the best view when he operated on me. That's the purpose of the liquid diet. I did hat a little fear he would know if I had cheated too. Lol. I did have one slice of fat free turkey lunch meat. Lol. I savor end every flipping bite. Anyway....the best advice I can give you is to experiment with your Protein drinks. The best one I made and still do is....Unjury unflavored pro powder, unsweetened cocoa, PB2 Peanut Butter, ice, 1/4 of frozen banana 1(cut up, put into ice trays, froze, and transferred into baggy), milk, and sweetened with Stevia. This gives you about 31 grams of protein and 220+ calories. It will keep you full for at least 4 hours. I don't like super sweet stuff....this was perfect! Also, Health Wise protein juice mix....my fav is Lemon Raspberry and I doubled the Water. I still like it now. Bariatric Choice is a good website for options. Best Wishes! You Can Do It!!!
