I take 5,000 mcg per day in one capsule, but there is more in my multi and more in my hair skin and nails vitamin. I hate to say it, but all of this does nothing. I think I just have expensive pee. My hair fell out when I had band surgery and has never recovered when I had revision surgery. I have new hair coming in, but it's still falling out!

Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
SleeveandRNYchica replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
All I can say is, if and I mean a big IF it was that easy to lose weight people would. I am sure a lot of forum members gave good efforts in losing weigh, I know I did. I have work with nutritionists and personal trainers. I have been obese since the age of 6. Back then we were not eating the way our society eats today. My brother is not obese and we grew up in the same house. Not all obese people are binge eaters. I don't think it is as simple as cutting back and exercising . If it was, I'd be skinny. Anyways, I have had issues with my sleeve. I have regained and am currently experiencing complications that require me to have revision surgery. I do not regret taking a chance on me! I have been FAT my entire life. I am not convinced that surgery is a mistake. I am sorry you have had a difficult time. I do believe you need to go into surgery having done your research. Asking questions and building a support system. If anyone new reads your post, I hope the take away is the importance of not making a rash decision. -
Lap band to gastric bypass revision info
suepro replied to Stacylynn1982's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
To be honest I am surprised that bands are still being fitted, despite the huge number of people requiring revision surgery. I think that more people are researching and going for sleeve and bypass but how long will it be until bands are phased out? Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App -

Heather, Definitely! Glad to know we are not alone:) I am still nervous about the revision and I am sure I will be freaking out before surgery but I am not letting fear stop me. I actually regret not get bypass done first time around. -
Lap band to gastric bypass revision info
josiek1988 replied to Stacylynn1982's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I too am in the process of band to Sleeve revision. I was banded in 2014 and about 6 months in started having issues. I actually lost more weight prior to being banded. I moved from Indiana to ohio and after a trip to the ER and lots of discomfort I am starting the process over! Upper GI says band slipped. And EGD says the the band removal and revision can be done in 1 surgery. Meeting with the Nutritionist on Thursday. Hoping for a June surgery date!!! As far as the insurance goes, it's new insurance for me but the doctors office says it shouldn't take long. She says the doctor knows how to write the office notes for easy approval. So I guess we'll see. Good luck to you on your journey!!! Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App -
Let me first say that you're doing fantastically. Don't let this little set back matter in the least. Are you in the hospital now? I am curious as to why you're going to get a revision to bypass if the sleeve is working well. Not a judgment at all, I am simply interested in the doctor's reasoning

I too was sleeved on the 12th and spent two days in the hospital. I was not given anything yucky to drink but as someone else stated that might have been done before I left the table. While I was in the hospital I was miserable and only drank Water. The Jello, crystal lite (SO BAD) and broth were all a no go. Not that I couldnt just that I didnt want to, which is kind of hard to describe. My hospital roomate who had gotten the Rou just a few hours after my surgery seemed to be in less pain which really got my goat but I am guessing it might be due to my revision of the band??? Who knows! I was really cranky pretty much the whole stay and the first night was a freaking nightmare thanks to the equipment in our room continuously malfunctioning. Her iv, My iv, someone was occluded, beeps, whistles, horns, flashing lights and 12 hours later I had gotten almost no sleep and I had some cheery newly shifted nurse standing over me like, well hun are you gonna walk????? LOL, I actually said that I would gladly walk if I would be granted a nap. (I said I was Cranky) She brought in some liquid Vicoden and a shot of hepperin and some nexium stuff they shot in my IV. FYI when they give you the shots of blood thinner and say do not rub or itch the site, THEY ARENT FOOLIN. I never even touched where they injected me in my belly and I have 6 tidy black and blues scattered around my belly around my already annoyed insicion spots. So post nap I still wasnt hungry but I did want to get up and walk around and it did help. I stepped on the scale this morning since it was 520 and I couldnt sleep. I weighed 311 the day before my surgery and this morning I weigh 308. Although I know its the water weight and probably every drop of IV SODIUM enhanced Fluid, I finally am feeling like this was a good decision. I knew that it was but there is something in the back of your mind when you are in bad shape that questions your intention and well SANITY..LOL Im glad I did this sugery and I look forward to every new step. I think I mentioned this in my post op post but I now have a 34 f for those of you who care. Oh and SHASTA, those empty burp things are the most painful things ever. Its like an implosion in your body with no way for the air to escape. Those have lessend thank goodness.. Feel better xoxoxooxo

I will be having surgery here bc insurance will cover most of it. I will be going to MX for skin removal as it won't be covered. MX can be great option! My surgeon spoke about doing revisions bc the previous surgeon didn't remove enough so I would definately ask that question to whoever you go to. Good luck with your journey!

I had a band to sleeve revision in December. I have lost more weight with the sleeve in about 3 months than I did with the band which I had for almost 5 years. The sleeve wasn't being offered as an WLS alternative at the time I was banded; if it had or I had known better - I probably would have opted for the sleeve first. I didn't have any problems with slippage but I either ate around it or I threw up a lot (especially after periodic adjustments). The worse part was that I wasn't impressed with the weight loss. Yes, I didn't follow all the suggestions with the band - but like I said I've had more success with the sleeve in the 3 mos than I did with the band after 5 years. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was when my DIL had WLS and opted for the sleeve. 6 Months post her sleeve surgery she had lost most of the weight she wanted to loose and she looked good. I knew then I had made the wrong choice. I had a hard time initially with the sleeve, but things keep getting increasingly better and I think I'm coming along well in terms of my weight loss. Oh yeah another thing that happened to me with the band, I lost weight in my lower region e.g. below the band line, but my upper body weight didn't really improve - in fact if I gained weight I gained it in my upper body. Don't know if anyone else had this experience, but this was my experience. At this point, I would never recommend band surgery to anyone. I was lucky that my insurance company paid for my 2nd surgery e.g. revision, if not I would be trying to figure out how I could self-pay - that's how disappointed I was with my progress.

1 Wk Post Op And I've Already Cheated Several Times.....
lellow replied to ktmoss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally think it's ruder for someone to pretend that it'll be ok when you may be causing yourself real harm by going against your dr's orders. And you know what? It's not like I haven't done it myself (more than once) so I think I'm in the right place to tell someone who is cheating to stop doing it, for their own good. You're hungry? Hell, so were we ALL at that stage. It's not called bandster hell for nothing. Eating solids when you're not healed is like picking on a wound that's still raw. I'm NOT going to tell you it's ok. But if you still want to do it, who am I to tell you not to despite the advice you've been given. You own your own decisions, good or bad. I personally would rather someone was blunt and told me to stop doing something that may cause damage than tell me it's ok only to find out later that it made me need a revision. To me, support isn't all heart and flowers and lies to make you feel better. It's about telling you the truth so you know not to do it in case you cause yourself harm. -
Need VSG to RNY Buddies for Dec. 2
StratusPhr replied to loveoften's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Had sleeve surgery June 2010. Like you, I lost down to exactly 132. My husband and daughters were alarmed because I could STOP losing. My goal was 150. I started adding higher caloric foods and gained to 145, I like that 5 lb pad. I maintained at or below goal for eight years. I have arthritis in my hips and after we left the Dallas area, I don't have the big malls to go to. I used to go and walk, no power walking, just window shopping, but I did it quite a bit. We also had a 2-story house and I'd purposely go up and down the stairs more than I needed to. Here I am, severe reflux and a hiatial hernia. I have regained a little over 40 lbs. Revision surgery is this Friday. I hope surgery will fix the medical problems and hopefully I'll drop 25 lbs!! Good luck!! -
Thinking of getting the Sleeve ... need more info
Oregondaisy replied to Kikiphiasmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you read all of the band to sleeve revision posts? We would not all have gone through a second surgery if we were happy with the band. There are also some stories of why people had their bands taken out in the tell your story section. -
Hi all it is me again.. I just have a question regarding the clinic.. when I had the consltation I have been told that I can fill unfill as much as I need for lifetime.. then within the contract that they send me to sign there are two things that I am not sure of 1st that they r availabe for support for 5 years and adjustment is subject be be chageged.. yes it is for free for 5 years still they have the right to charge us.. second then it is not a liftime adjustment and after care support then it is only 5 years 2nd they said that the revision and complication of the surgery is covered by OHIP as is for today.. okay since I am in the medical feild I know that regulations keep changing everyday in the heath ssytem so if later it is not covered what will happen?!! Anyone can help me on those two things?!

Lap Band Is Not Reversible. Why The Sleeve May Be A Better Choice.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to crystalny's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually, you're wrong. It IS 100% reversible. If the band is removed your stomach simply goes back to the way it was pre-surgery. If you have damage due to a slip or prolapse, you may have some scarring, but it doesn't remove any portion of your stomach or re-route your digestive system in any way. Not so with the Sleeve, you can't replace a huge portion of your stomach that's been cut out. As for the Sleeve, people don't go in for reversions because they can't. More than half of their stomach is removed, there's nothing to revise. If you look at the long term statistics, people gain back weight with the Sleeve and Gastric Bypass just as often as with the Band, the difference being, a Band patient can always go back in and get a fill to start over. A Sleeve patient will have likely stretched out what's left of their stomach and pretty much be screwed. ...not to mention there's FAR less chance of major complications and/or death with the band. And the recovery time is half of that of the Sleeve. I respect your decision to go with the Sleeve and wish you much success, but your information isn't exactly accurate. -
Any Longview, TX bandsters?
trish151 replied to trish151's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't get your email. I'll check my spam folder. I'd live to know how you are doing. Bacca? I used a surgeon out of Dallas for my band and revision. He did an excellent job on both. -
Rando Pouch Question - RNY

Yep! I shouldโve specified so I edited my post to include RNY. My surgeon said reflux is rampant with sleeve patients and the #1 reason folks come to him for revisions to RNY. Some people just canโt get a handle on it ๐ฅ I hope you can get some relief. -
I'm on the 6th too. Revising from the band. I had multiple last meals [emoji20]. I sadly gained weight from my last visit. But I'm on day 4 of my 7 day liquid diet. I've been wanting to revise for two years. I've unfortunately gained back all my weight plus a little due to band failure. I hope things go very well for all. Now that it's 4 days away I'm starting to get a little nervous. I'm hoping I have an easy recovery. Honestly I'm not worried to much about the pain, although last time day 1 sucked, but I was off pain meds by day 3. I'm worried about having trouble getting all me fluids in. I currently drink a lot of wyler's light (similar to crystal light).

I had an ESG in Oct 2018, I had a VSG revision in March 2020. I do regret having an ESG, in Australia its not covered by medicare thus not covered by health insurance, I self funded. It was a waste of my money and. The sutures did not anchor properly and/or loosened. Looks like Dr Blosser has been around for awhile and hopefully well experienced with ESG. Questions I would ask are how many ESG procedures has he done? Success / failure rate after a year? Complication rate? What can you expect for recovery? What medication prior to and post procedure? What was the heaviest an ESG patient has weighed (his patient that is) and how much did they lose? How many of his ESG patients that he knows of have had a surgical revision? What is the average excess weight loss (EWL) % (it used to be about 20% it may have changed) vs EWL % for his patients. What is the post op program? How much on top of the procedure expenses will this cost? if you have to attend dietician and/or behavioural coach appointments)? One of the selling points of ESG is less complications and quicker recovery, however, this is generally offset by lower weight loss. If you have a lot of weight to lose (BMI 40 and over) you may be better off going with a surgical option. Typically a ESG leaves a stomach with more volume than the surgical option, hence, weight loss will not be as significant as for surgery. LIke the surgical options, many people have had success with ESG and many people haven't.

I had my pre-op yesterday (1/8/19). I actually had 5 appointments. 1) pre-op (surgery is 1/21/19), 2) heart sonogram with cardiologist, 3) blood work, 4) dietitian, and 5) stress test wit the cardiologist. I was surprised to learn I do not have to do clears for 2 week pre-op. My sheet says either 4 protein shakes a day or low calorie, low carbohydrate dies of no more than 50-60 carbs per day. No snack type foods, sweets, or starches (bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, peas, cereal, crackers, etc.) I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass.

Hi Mimi! Also January 29th. In Michigan. I donโt have that pain under my incisions. Iโm not even sure what it might be? I had revision from band to bypass. Did you find out what the pain was and has it gotten better?

Start over? Revision to sleeve?
2muchfun replied to AmandaC86's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Why would you opt for a revision? The sleeve won't stop you from eating the wrong foods or too much anymore than a band will. You're looking at bariatric surgery as if it were a governor placed on your body that completely controls your intake and that's just not how it works. Any WLS is a tool but if you don't use the tool, you won't find success. I see posts from others who also deal with the non supportive families and I have to admit I'd struggle with the issue too. I think that this is an area that surgeons don't evaluate well enough. Some patients should be screened out or not encouraged to have WLS until they're in control of their own environment. Although, I have seen some patients who also work in a restaurant who have had WLS. Sorry, I have willpower, but not in the quantities needed to refrain from not cheating in that environment. It must be very difficult to plan and execute a healthy eating lifestyle when you're not in control over the meal planning? tmf -

I have had Dr. Kwon place my lapband and I am currently working with him again to do revision to sleeve. He is great but strict. Do you have a surgery date yet? -
I assume they do stand behind the doctor being the coordinator listed it as a finance option but mymedicalloan is also on that list and I have heard horrible things about that place. This is for Dr. Aceves in Mexicali for my revision from band to sleeve. My next option will be Dr. Garcia in Tijuana.
