    Feeling sick

Most of us have been exactly where you are now. For me, everything pretty much sucked for at least a week. I could NOT drink enough protein shake for the life of me, and then I knew I was also getting dehydrated, and day 3-5 were the worst for me. Then the hunger kicks in... OH the hunger. Hahaha, I can laugh about it now because I made it through, as all of these other bandsters did. We make it through. By day 10 you'll physically be feeling better, and just dealing with outrageous hunger. By 3 weeks out, you'll be able to eat more and feel pretty good about everything. It's funny, because I'm only 2 months out, and I remember making my first post-op post on here feeling like I regretted having the surgery. But it passes, and you lose weight, and you feel better. Hang in there! We're here for you!

    Hair Loss

Debly, I, too, had a relatively low BMI, around 36. I've dieted all my life, losing and gaining. Every decade that went by, I managed to pack on an additional 10 lbs. I never thought I was "that fat" and I thought I carried it well, because I didn't look as heavy as what the scale said. In my 30's, the dr would say I needed to lose weight. In my 40's the dr would say I need to lose weight. When I turned 50, the dr said that I needed to be on BP and cholesterol meds because of my weight. I went on a serious diet and couldn't lose, went to several hypnotists and couldn't lose, in fact, I gained more. So, I opted for surgery. I don't know how old you are, but believe me, age works against a person. When I was younger, this surgery wasn't available. I wish it had been. Although, I'm not too far out (3/12/12), I know I'm going to be glad I had this done. Better late than never. From what I understand, the hair loss is temporary, and you can do supplements to minimize it. And, since the health aspect of losing weight is the most important thing to me, I think....no one has ever had a stroke from thin hair! So, hair loss is unfortunate, but secondary of concern to me, at least.

    Any Of You Girls...

Not lose?? That would be wonderful... I gain... like 10 lbs. It goes away after, but still... it sucks!! Anyways, yes, it is completely normal. It also sometimes affects my weight the week before as well.

    Problems with tummy sag?

i also wanted to mention that u do not necessarily need to have rashes and skin disorders in order for ur insurance to cover a panniculectomy...eventually that weight of the excess skin will start giving you back problems and enable u to fully exercise...i looked at ur ticker with the amount of weight u want to lose...im 99.9% sure u will need some type of plastic surgery...i am 30 years old and have lost about 140 pounds...i weight in 2morrow when i get my stitches taken out...i dont want to get u down...but i dont want to sugar coat it either...even when i had my apron of excess skin i was still much happier at 160 pounds than i was at 296. i wouldnt worry about it now... ask ur band surgeon to refer u to a plastic surgeon when ur about 10 pounds from goal and mention to the plastic surgeon that u want to go through insurance...they r usually very helpful...and skin tighten creams do not get rid of pounds of extra skin...thats a myth...lol

My Dr said 7 to 10 days after.
  6. I have survived week 1 of the pre OP diet and 1 week to go. I have lost 10 lbs but stalled the last 2 days. I was hoping to lose more weight and go into this with a bang. Still hoping! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I was banded yesterday. I got to the hospital at 7:30 for a 9:30 surgery but they didn't start until around 10:00. I was home resting by 4:30. The pain is not as bad as I thought it would be. I slept half the night in a recliner and the other half in my bed. I was sent home with a OnQ med pump. It is basically a numbing medicine and a script for Ultram. I am walking a lot. I also had ahernia repair. That is where most of the discomfort is coming from. My pre-op diet consisted of 3 Protein shakes and Water for 2 weeks. I lost 32 lb doing that - which shocked me. I can start eating soft foods today and can have only that for the next 2 weeks until my follow-up appt. I am hoping the hardest is over with. Becky

    Dumping?

I'm completely fine now, like it never happened! Totally my own fault. It came on fast- like 10 minutes after I finished drinking. I've been handling liquids really well and wasn't even thinking this morning when I drank the shake SO fast 🙊 It was a lesson for me to slow down and be more mindful of my new stomach.

    I've been a bad girl...BUT....!

My doc and Nut are both strict about sports drinks being sugar free. I had a Powerade zero, a big bottle, and I sipped on it for three days. I got sick of it. lol I picked up some Syntax nectar so that I can stay on top of the Protein and the liquid. Im still so tired though. Not like before, but I do nap for about 5-10 mins to feel better.
  10. I band on the 18th only two more days, I start only clear liq. tomorrow till mid night thursday my surg. is at 10:00 yall be praying for me:pray2: . I've done well with the low carbs. but just liq. is gonna be hard.
  11. My name is BinkieGirl, but you can call me Bink. I was banded on July 10 2003 by Dr. Bradley Needleman in Columbus Ohio. So far I've lost somewhere around 20 pounds thanks to several complications including having my stomach swell shut for several days. All in all, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you!

    Gas Keeping Me Miserable

I had my surgery on 10/1/10 and had a rough time the first couple of days with the gas pain in my shoulder and burping, etc. Then I started to feel better and actually came back to work yesterday after my post-op checkup which was a pretty good report (lost 9 1/2 pounds so far). So today I started getting this excruciating pain in my lower left abdomen, nowhere near my port sight or stitches or anything. I'm waiting on a call back now from my doctor. I have no clue what it is but I certainly hope its gas and not anything more severe.
  13. Oh sweetie I know it is a pain in the ass. I just got my date, 10/4/12 and I first met with my surgeon last December. Use this time wisely. Try things like, only eating a small portion while your family and friends eat normally, taste the proteins, not necessarily for taste but for texture. Your tastes will change after surgery. Start walking if you haven't already. Go to support groups. I thankful for my time bc I have made Frieda through support group who I would have never met.

    December 20 sleevers

I went through this same thing and still have some pain.. I am 10 days post op- each day gets better-
  15. Btw.you know clear liquids also means things like Isopure and other Protein Drinks like Protein 10..which is clear liquid but loaded with protein. That will definitely get your energy level pack up.
  16. Just wanted to check in and do some reading for some ideas and tips. I love reading all the posts! I have LB surgery on April 16, 2012 and I have lost 22 pounds so far. I actually lost 18 pounds in my pre-op diet (10 days) before surgery. Since surgery, I've lost 4 more! So thrilled about my weight loss. My clothes are looser and I feel better about myself! So far everything has gone great! Just some soreness after surgery, but that is much better now. I have an appointment with my doctor May 2. Will keep everyone updated!

    Post op weight gain

I have lost 19 pounds so far , but really seem stuck right now. I wish i could stay off the scale. Donna
  18. From what I've been reading here, it's different for everyone, but 10 days would have been fine for me and I'm 62.
  19. I work in retail mgt and just got approved for surgery I was wondering if 10 days off would be enough as long as I didn't have to lift and tug when I got back to work and could take it easy for the first couple of weeks back.
  20. Hello All! I am over a year post op and just got restriction! What a mess! So the last time I went in I had to be honest with them I was able to eat just about anything.. I was worried that my band wasnt working! Well I was wrong what happened was one of the times I got a fill it must not have went in the band.. going in I thought I had 13.8 cc in a 14 band Thats why I was worried but no they one got out a little over 6 cc.. So they filled me to 10 cc and now I have had to be careful. so my question is how do you know if I need another fill. I can eat and seem to have restriction but alot of things get stuck. I think at first I was eating to fast.. now things dont get as stuck! any advice?
  21. I am 10 says post-op. I am SICK of liquids. I am so burned out on soup, pudding, shakes that I feel like puking every time I have to drink one down. My daughter is eating a sloppy Joe in front of me, and I swear I could tackle her down and steal it. I can start mushy foods in 4 days. I never thought I would be so excited for tuna fish or egg salad. I crave it now, and cant wait! Please tell me I am not alone! After pre-op diet and now this liquid diet, I really want food, that I can chew 40 times, not slurp. I know I need to wait, but honestly, it is just 4 more days? What could be the harm...I don't think I will make it the weekend. Head hunger, acid, whatever it is, I really am hungry and want food!

Down 38 lbs. since Jan 31

I have given up the beer and at just over 10 weeks out and with 2 fills, the band is really doing it. I only notice that it is there when I break the rules (don't chew well enough especially). Greatest thing I ever did and I am not even half way yet!

    Expectations of the band

Funny you ask this. See ... in the beginning, I decided to have the band because it was not too invasive and it was a slower loss than GB, so odds were good that I would not need excess skin removed. I told myself if I lost 100 pounds in 2 years, that would be fantastic. THEN...I was on here reading about people losing 20-30 pounds in the first month or two, and 10 pounds every month after that, and I got jealous. I was comparing my results too much to others' results and was becoming disappointed with myself--doubting myself...even though my results were still on track with my initial expectations. I had to stop reading the site for awhile. If I had read the POST-Operation posts PRE-Operation, maybe I would have been prepared for the aftermath of the actual surgery. I finally realized that my "new" expectations were too high and only based on what some others were experiencing. Eventually my fills started working and I started losing weight. I actually don't even think I'll be getting a fill at my appointment on Friday since I've lost 16 of my 34 pounds since April (yes...I only lost 18 pounds my first 4-5 months...). My 34 pounds (lost since surgery) is not alot, but where would I be without the Band? 10 pounds heavier? On another diet, only to gain 20 more over the next year? Now, I'm on my way to being 1/2 way to goal in my first year and AT goal in 2. My point here---don't let what you read here, and other people's successes make your expectations UNREALISTIC. Everyone is an individual so keep that in mind. This is NOT a fast and easy way to go. Exercise, eat right, and it'll work for you. I'm just happy that I can still eat most of what I like (it's harder, and I eat less of it, but can still enjoy most things except bread...). And -- I don't have to worry about how much heavier I'll be in the next year, or five years.... Good luck to you.
  25. Had my surgery at 10am yesterday and am in ghe most pain I've ever been in. Stayed last night and was up every hour needing more morphine. Was able to walk last night and this afternoon but it was very hard and started some bleeding when I coughed. Haven't drank anything but ice chips, and liquid Vicodin. Everything I drink, even the smallest about, sends my stomach into a cramp fest that hurts so bad. Can hardly sleep because pain meds do not last. Just had a dose of the liquid Vicodin a half hour ago and the pain is already back I'm terrified about going home because have no recliner or propped up bed to lay in comfortably. Plus have 2 large dogs and my bathroom is in the other side of the house. Sorry for venting but just in so much pain. Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/13 Sent from my iPhone using VST
