I pretty much eat the same exact things. I had miso soup today and a 3oz piece of grilled chicken plus protein shakes, yogurt and decaf tea. At 3 weeks post I feel like I can eat. I also have not lost anymore weight this week. Thinking I should try and stick to liquids only for another week.

Do you think I can lose 70lbs naturally? I'm at a crossroads :(
helenah posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Firstly hi all, I'm new here. My name is Helena. Just a little backdrop - I'm 37 years old, from the UK. I'm 5'9 and weigh 270lbs/20 stone. I talked to my local doctor recently about getting weight loss surgery and then I few weeks later I suddenly get a letter through telling me that an appointment has been booked with a bariatric surgeon in a few months time! If I'm approved I will be getting the surgery done on the NHS which means I essentially don't have to pay for it. That sounds like a blessing. But of course now I'm freaking out, being the massive coward I am I have been binge watching vlogs and from everything I'm hearing - whilst the end result is great - I don't know if I want to or even if I CAN go through the operation. For many reasons. Firstly I have never been operated on. I've never had children so don't know what childbirth or a c section feels like. I've been pretty blessed, aside from a herniated disc I had a few years ago, I've managed to live a pretty pain free life. The second thing might sound a little bit selfish but in my 30s I grew to accept myself as a bigger person. Whilst I hate the size that I am I feel like I don't really care about getting down to my ideal bmi and that I would be perfectly happy being 220lbs or if I'm really lucky 200lbs (I told you, thats gonna sound selfish). I can live with a heavier me. Ideally I just want to lose some weight. But by some I don't mean 10lbs, enough so that I can lose a few dress sizes. Many years ago I lost just one dress size and felt amazing, so much more confident. But that was in my 20s and achieved from pretty much a starvation diet (about 700-800 calories a day, only lasted a few weeks and of course eventually put it all back on). I won't be able to do a starvation diet in my 30s, don't have the willpower now. So I want to keep the surgery option as my last, last, LAST option (without sounding ungrateful) but so far all the success stories I've heard of people who have lost roughly 50lbs-70lbs or more is that it was achieved through some sort of surgery. Do you honestly think its achievable to lose the weight naturally within a year (I need to lose it within a year) or do you think I should just prepare myself for the surgery?? Sorry if you think its a stupid question, I'm just kinda lonely with no one else to really turn to so I kinda need to get this off my chest. If you think it can be achieved naturally could you tell me what diet/weight loss plan I should opt for? Thank you for listening x -
I am 3 weeks out today too! I’m still on liquids for another week, that’s just my Dr. it’s hard seeing others at same place eating soft foods! Today though I’ve been “grazing” all day. Since I have no issue with liquids, nothing is really filling me up. I’ve had a protein shake, soup, sugar free pudding with almond milk, more soup, yogurt, and jello. Not really hungry, but totally not satisfied.

How is everyone doing? How is the fluid intake going? I started protein drinks today and it’s hard, but I set a timer and that’s helping me space things out. Hope all of you are feeling good! 🌈❤️

Hello everyone, I finally got to have my surgery this passed Monday. I had a vertical sleeve done. Pre op I went from 255.9 to 239.6 so very excited for that. Sadly that's not the reason I'm writing today. Sorry in advance this may get TMI. So for me it is day 4. I called my nurses because I had only been on water this whole time and just felt awful. They told me to just rest get some protein water and apple juice because even though I was following the liquid diet to the letter my body needs those to function. What I wasn't warned about was the bathroom issues. I literally take a sip and almost instantly to and hour later I'm upstairs with bad bathroom issues. My stomach feels like I have a kicking baby in my abdomin and the gurgle wow. Did anyone else experience this? How long did it last? It sucks. One more thing to worry about. My doctor said it will balance out once we get more food in me starting Tuesday. Help me survive the next few days. Please?

Post-Op Weight Loss stall - when will it end????
tx2az replied to Victoria_Faith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have an Etekcity bathroom scales that charts weight, BMI, etc. I weight every morning, I feel it gives me an immediate insight as to things I did or didn't do appropriately: such as, did I have too much salt, did I drink enough water, did I get enough protein, what was my calorie count, and after surgery bathroom visits change a lot. I have had stalls, and increases, of course, but I think just being mindful works for me. Best wishes to everyone! -

Blossoming1 replied to ceri84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The liquid diet i had while in the hospital wasn't bad. I know everyones bodies respond different. I slept. Other then when i got up to walk, shower & eat. I slept a lot. Im traveling home & eating is a struggle traveling. They packed me food to bring on my plane rides. They packed: water, jello, gatorades, apple juices & chicken broth to bring with me. I have not ate meat in over three years. The chicken broth was my best protein so I ate it. bothered me a little. but choose your battles. ill be home soon health is #1 priority. -
Hi,congratulations, you did it . My surgery is scheduled for 3/27. I’m doing my protein shake now , I glad you posted a positive and encouraging statement

I had my surgery on Monday 3/13, so I’m 3 days post-op (my bariatric team considers surgery day to be “day 0”). Pain was manageable Day 0 and 1, but as soon as the anesthesia wore off, I could barely walk. Turns out I had gas putting pressure on my large incision. Increasing to the high end of the pain meds dose made everything so much better. I can walk now and started Protein shakes today. I’ve spent the whole day trying to get through the first shake while also drinking Gatorade with Miralax to get things going.

Post-Op Weight Loss stall - when will it end????
Nikka replied to Victoria_Faith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also experienced a two week stall right after surgery. It’s heartbreaking, I had many doubts, I constantly wonder if I was doing something wrong. Mostly I was concerned about experiencing constipation pre op I was always regular but now I was having a movement every 3 days. That was hard and concerning for me. I tried taking more fiber in any way possible. Finally at the start of my fourth week post op things were moving along easier. Once that happen I started to see my weight move as well. I’m a little more relief now I do focus on my water, fiber, protein and getting more steps in. That seems to have help with my two issues. I am not losing weight not as fast as others but I’m ok, just trying to focus on the process. -
Ibuprofen alternatives
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to 15 Years Out's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My team allows occasional use, as needed. I use it when my migraine rescue meds need an extra kick. Tramadol is an option, but it is by Rx only. For topical pain relief, possibly Diclofenac cream (it is an NSAID, but I think any risk of ulcers is essentially null when using topically). As the need arises, definitely talk to your doctor. There are options out there and there is no need to live in pain! -
Complications 11 yrs after surgery
Mia2515 replied to Mia2515's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Yes, I have tried many different meds. Right now my med provider tells me she doesn't know what to do because some meds we've tried raise my BP. I currently take busbar as well with 2 other psych meds. One being a sedative. My anxiety and panic seen to be non stop. I also see a therapist and he's does the EMDR and also teaching me about what you're be taught. It's not working. My brain is fighting against me and winning. I really hope everything works out for you. Everyone is different so I wish you much success on your surgery. Be sure to take your vitamins and protein ❤️☺️ -
Vegan pre-op LRD
SuziDavis replied to jemimafudgecake's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you found a good Vegan Protein? You will definitely need one. I use the one I linked below, the French toast and chocolate are bomb. Otherwise, you need to ask your doctor what vegan food he will allow that you can make work. The biggest obstacles you will have is getting enough protein in. you need to hit 60-80 grams. https://1stphorm.com/collections/meal-replacement-proteins/products/vegan-power-pro -
I’m a week out post-op now and starting protein shakes today. Despite my 20 lbs. drop, reality hit me like a brick yesterday and have been feeling overwhelmed with buyer’s remorse.

This week I had two consecutive lunches that were very, very salty. I gained a pound each day. In my case its just water. It will slowly disappear. You will get used to these little fluctuations. I log all my foods and know my calories and protein every day. I therefore know I am always in a calorie deficit. It really helps

Protein advice greatly appreciated
mcipanda replied to SamDS100's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m also really sensitive to the metallic, chemical flavor of protein shakes (Muscle Milk makes me want to vomit), so I tried dozens of different protein shakes before my surgery. My favorites: Fairlife Vanilla (melted DQ ice cream is the best way to describe it), Fairlife Chocolate (like chocolate milk), Premiere Protein Cake Batter (to me, this tastes like a vanilla shake should) I like these flavors blended with ice and banana: Fairlife Power Strawberry Banana, Premiere Protein Chocolate, Premiere Protein Peanut Butter Chocolate For unflavored protein, I use Bariatric Fusion. Can be mixed in with all sorts of things, like yogurt, sugar free pudding and Gatorade Zero. I’ve also heard that Unjury protein powder is good (but haven’t tried it yet). -
You should have been given a pre-op diet plan to follow, as there's no one diet prescribed to everyone. For some it's strictly liquid only, for others, it's one super low calorie meal plus protein shakes. So could you give more information about what your team has asked you to do?

I had my sleeve and hiatal hernia repaired done on March 8th, so I’m 1 week post op. I don’t have gas pains as bad as I did. Trying to make sure I get all my liquids in.. I like the Ensure Max Protein shakes (French vanilla). Congrats to everyone starting this journey!!

Post-Op Weight Loss stall - when will it end????
Victoria_Faith posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone talks about the post-op weight loss stall - when does it pick up again? I'm trying not to compare myself to other people's successes, but honestly am frustrated. I am 3 weeks post-op and still on the pureed foods program. I'm only getting about 4-600 calories a day and reach for about 80g of protein and make it there most days thanks to my shakes. The scale hasn't moved in a week - I guess I should be asking my surgical team, but when can I expect that to change? I know I don't walk like I should, I suppose I should do more than 30 minutes a day. My doctor also told me to take a laxative every 3-4 days due to the dietary restrictions causing constipation. Any encouragement would be appreciated. -
Dietician doesn't like that my Bariatricpal multi's have 3g of sugar
steveks posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My dietician is great and has helped me, though I privately question if she's just a little stricter than necessary when it comes to sugar grams. She's fairly fixated on the idea that things should contain 1 gram or less of sugar. When I showed her a printout of the nutrition label on the Bariatricpal multi's I ordered, she told me they have too much sugar. She actually told me I'll have to replace them with another option that has less sugar. My jaw honestly fell open a bit. I was agreeable so as not to offend her, but I just think she's being unnecessarily strict. The Bariatricpal multi's meet or exceed (often exceed) the specific nutritional values specified by my program, and since I purchased a year's supply all at once, their price is the best. I'm going to continue taking them. I know my dietician is far more knowledgeable than I am but, sorry, 2 little extra grams of sugar is just not a big deal to me. -
Thank you all-I was able to dilute mine today (1/2 with milk) and only drink about half at a time— it was much better today, not such a heavy feeling. I will try the 20s, but that Gatorade protein was terrible for me, even before surgery- could barely force myself to drink half of it. This is just the only real way i am getting the protein numbers up… so I will keep at it.

February 2023 surgery dates!
DrinkMoreRadium replied to Erin18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's crazy how much tastes change! I used to love pickles and now I can't stand them. The first week or so postop I couldn't do cold water and didn't really want room temp water so I drank a lot of gatorade zero. I tried the gatorade zero protein, but could not deal with the after taste. Last week though everything started to taste really sweet so I went back to water and have no issues now with cold water. When I feel like I want something other than water, I just grab a crystal light packet and add it in. Fruit punch is my favorite flavor, but I have to double the water I mix it with because it's pretty strong. Monday was 4 weeks postop for me and it's amazing how much difference 10 days can make! Physically, I feel totally fine - no remaining soreness or pain. My doctor cleared me for soft foods including "chewing non-soft foods to an applesauce consistency" so I haven't stuck to any specific foods but still trying to figure out what works for me which is mostly chicken and shrimp. I finally hit the (delayed) 3 week stall and haven't seen the scale move at all this week, but I'm keeping my motivation up with exercise and hope to see that big dip soon. -
Having GERD. Will insurance cover revision if BMI IS 31?
Tammi J replied to NewlySleeved12282020's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have had the same issues and will be going in for revision surgery on March 23. I have already had Roux en y surgery that is 11 years old and I have a BMI of 27, insurance is covering the procedure to make my pouch back to its original size as it has stretched to double the recommended size. Luckily I have not gained a lot of weight back but do have the GERD complications along with a hiatal hernia. The surgery will address the gerd but at this time my surgeon feels leaving the hernia alone is my best option. Hopefully your insurance doesn't give you a hard time as GERD is awful.
