Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
FluffyChix replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yesterday was a tough day. I had a lymphedema flare in my arm and it's very painful when that happens. On top of that I was so busy, and had to try to work with one arm elevated on pillows and only using one hand on the computer. Oy! Try being a one-handed graphic designer. So. Slow. It was a great IF day. I tried having just a quick cottage cheese/fruit breakfast with some fiber cereal. We were out of Grk yogurt. And I tried pineapple (fresh). Big mistake. I was starvin marvin until the afternoon. But then started feeling so bad that I lost every speck of appetite. So ended up only having protein coffee for dinner and didn't get all my protein in for the day. Oh well. One day isn't the end of the world. I didn't take pics of my egg puff. You guys know what that looks like! B1-Coffee + Miralax + Colace B2-Cottage Cheese with Bing Cherries and Pineapple L-Egg Puff (ew, turk saus crumbles, mushrooms, spinach, onion mix, lt cheese wedge) AS-BH Turkey + Asian Salad Mix (just the greens part--no dressing or toppings) + WF Italian Dressing D-protein coffee Here's my food log for the day - 500 cal DD (under on cals and protein)-Click to enlarge. -
I've tried doing the meal prep stuff and I've found my way around it successfully Meal #1: any flavor Oikos triple zero yogurt (Salted caramel is amazing) = $1.09 Meal #2: 1/2 cup cottage cheese = $0.50 Meal #3: 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter powder (buy from nuts.com) $0.50 Meal #4: Starkist tuna meal pack = $1.89 Meal #5: !/2 Premier protein shake (DOESN'T TASTE LIKE THE DREADED PROTEIN lol) It has 30 grams of protein 1 gram of sugar and is a delicious milkshake = $2.30 (full shake cost) Sam's Club has the BEST price I don't have a membership as I'm single and eating like a bird. Meal #6: finish off remaining premier protein shake (these shakes are perfect during work hours) Meal #7: 2 low fat cheese sticks and small apple = $1.25 Total daily cost: $7.53 - $8.00 daily be sure to add fiber to 2 water breaks during the day to combat the constipation from the protein!

Thank y’all for commenting. I’m still experiencing blockage , I vomited again. I had a bit of chicken and carrots and it got stuck again. I think I need to pay a visit to the hospital. Yogurt and fruits goes in good. Even cheese.

Is it possible
Orchids&Dragons replied to Michie_be_me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to calm down. There are other options to get support and help available. Don't worry about weight loss at this point. Many doctors tell their patients not to weigh the first month because it can be so disheartening. You can't separate out weight loss from fluid retention and swelling at this point. Work on getting your fluids and protein, the rest will happen when it wants to. Stressing yourself out won't make it happen any faster. You should feel no restriction on fluids; they go right through your sleeve. You won't really feel restriction until you get to soft foods. Believe me, you'll know. You won't overdo it on liquids unless they have calories. The 64 oz. is a minimum. If you are comfortable drinking more fluids than that, no problem. Generally, I would say follow your doctor's plan for foods, but if they haven't given you any guidance - purees are any foods that have the texture of applesauce or smoother. At the puree stage, you can have purees or anything from an earlier stage, like full liquids. So you should be having a combination of smooth soups (can add unflavored protein powder), Greek yogurts, soft scrambled eggs, soft refried beans, etc. or, anything that you can put in a blender. (Personally, I couldn't handle the texture of blended meats, but to each, their own.) This website has a recipe section for each stage of diet progression. You can also check out "puree stage foods" on Pinterest. That should give you some ideas, too. Good luck and I hope this helps! -
Need breakfast ideas - what are you eating for bf?
S@ssen@ch replied to indacrucible's topic in Food and Nutrition
My go to during the week is a Siggi's skyr (like Greek yogurt, but less sweet) with granola, tbsp of unjury, and tsp of chia seeds. On weekends I change it up to keep me from getting bored Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Seems carb heavy. Fruit or raisins for a snack would just make me want more carbs. Crackers and cheese for lunch, well there are just better options. Stick to the basics. Proteins like chicken, fish, lean meat. Eat it on some salad if you like. Carrot stuffing, potatoes, etc.....carb, carb, carb. It is just my opinion but I’d back down the carbs while you are still so soon out from surgery. You don’t need potatoes, or stuffing. You need protein, and non starchy veggies, maybe a few berries if room. Why not some Greek yogurt for a snack?

September bypass buddies??
SueSaBelle replied to MissPoodle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you everyone for the prayers. My bypass went very well and Dr. Taylor also fixed the hernia that I didn't know I had. I also have 6 incision sites that are in a circle. The left ones are the ones that give me constant pain if I move to suddenly or twist. Of course my body decided to start my period the day before surgery which was a major pain, especially when I received blood thinner shots in my belly. The staff took it all in stride and were wonderful. I am home and only taking liquid Tylenol for the pain. I was on morphine through the iv and then on liquid Vicodin which helped for the car ride home. I am getting in my water and most of my protein (shakes, oikos Greek yogurt, sugar free jello, broth). One of the things I noticed immediately in the hospital was everything was too sweet, even the sugar free popsicles. I had lots of broth and forced myself to have some of the jello but I mostly had lots of ice chips. I am finally able to sleep on my sides. I also use a wedge pillow in bed to help prop me up. This was wonderful to be able to sleep 4 hours without being interrupted! Walking does help immensely! I took my house shoes which are actually a pair of Crocs and I was able to walk farther because of the extra cushion from the Crocs. This helped a lot since the gas kept settling in my right shoulder and chest. TMI - The only thing I am concerned about is having my first bowel movement. I have been burping and passing gas but just haven't had to go #2. That kind of makes sense since I haven't really eaten anything that wasn't a liquid so how can you poop if you are peeing everything out? I also had a moment of questioning about surgery. I thought how could I be so selfish to have this elective surgery and inconvenience my family. Thankfully I reminded myself that this was for me and eventually my family will reap the benefits. My hubby was wonderful throughout the whole process. He was so worried that he left his slippers on when we drove to the hospital on Wednesday morning. I am truly blessed to have him in my life. Through 6 years of marriage he has stood by me and encouraged me. He combats that inner destructive voice in my head and makes me laugh. Feel free to ask me any questions about my experience with bypass. -
I am generally staying under 1200, But i am suprised to see how fast calories can mount up even eating tiny meals! I have been using the baritastic ap and frequently see calories go up to 1,400-1,800 I'm never 100% sure if I've added the right amount as a lot of foods are either not on the list or brands i haven't heard of or my grams to oz conversation isn't very accurate, I always err on the higher side to compemsate for errors and also i sometimes don't eat all of the amount I've calculated. I went out for dinner the other night and had a macaroni cheese starter as my main course and immediately 750cals on my plate, I AM losing weight slowly so it is coming off but just wondering how everyone copes with meals? can people take a look at my average diet please... 8am Breakfast: 1 x toast OR 1 egg cheese & mushroom omelette OR Pancake made with slimfast 8:30am Coffee with semi skimmed milk 11am Snack: 1 piece of fruit OR kids raisins box 12:30 Lunch: half a small chicken breast & salad OR 2 babybel cheese and 2 crackerbread 3:30pm Coffee (ss milk) 6:30pm Dinner: small chicken breast with vegetables or salad OR slice of Gammon with 1 small potato and broccoli OR chilli con carne or bolognaise in a ramekin size tapas dish 7-8pm Possible (not everyday) a snack of handfull of nuts or handful of berries or a low fat yogurt I don't have many or any bread/pasta/rice type carbs after breakfast apart from the occasional crackerbread at lunch or maybe a potato with dinner maybe once a week. I eat off a side plate or a bariatric portion control plate. Take a look at my food and give me your opinion please, I think im eating too much but im hungry so it's hard to cancel a snack time, but maybe i could swap something out??

Food Before and After Photos
macadamia replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm three days post-op and was started on phase 2, pureed foods yesterday. Here are the two-tablespoonsful cups of food they have sent me for meals and how much I have eaten. It ranges from chicken and cream of asparagus soup to turkey and cream of mushroom, and any combination of the two. The single cup is Lite n Fit Greek yogurt, vanilla flavor. I also get a chocolate protein shake with breakfast and I'm using the empty 30ml cup to drink my portion of the shake. So far, so good... -

Sick. Thanks NYC... But I did eat so here's photos, same thing for two days. Made soup from the original meal. Worked out. What's missing is yogurt, peanut butter and chocolate. I say at about 1000 cals both days. Endless amounts of fluids to try and cripple this bug. Going back to bed. -
Need breakfast ideas - what are you eating for bf?
Lyngolean replied to indacrucible's topic in Food and Nutrition
I, too, just love the Oikos Triple Zero yogurt. I have half a tub of that with a small amount of fruit most breakfasts. Otherwise a scrambled egg, sometimes with a touch of shredded parmesan cheese. I have also had slices of apple with natural peanut butter. I would love to branch out with new breakfast ideas too. I've never loved oatmeal, but maybe it's time to try it again. -
I'm so sorry. I have some pretty terrible food aversions myself, but for a very different reason than you. But hating food is not good no matter the reason. Being frightened of food is a bad place to be in your mind. I'm not going to bore you with my own exhausting story, but instead tell you what I'm doing to help myself. I've taken an interest in looking at recipes online. I was pretty lazy prior to surgery with cooking good, meaningful, healthy, quality food. I was a bad mom, letting my family eat frozen pizza, chicken nuggets, french fries, fast food. Basically all kinds of fast, tasty garbage. When I cooked, I cooked like I was feeding an army because I wanted everyone to feel full and have seconds if they wanted. How awful I was about that. I can't change the past, but I'm changing the NOW and the FUTURE. I try to make things that are delicious yet nutritionally sound. Food can be a scary thing for me now, but I try to keep it interesting by investing time and effort into it. I get very happy when my family gives me a thumbs up and kisses for making a new recipe that they want me to make again. I'm struggling with health limitations that have decimated my interest in food. Sometimes it can be so hard to will myself to take a bite of anything because I know it will hurt. Making something to be proud of feels very therapeutic even if I only take one small bite of it. I'm very picky now about ingredients, flavors, quality. I'm not saying this is the right fix for your struggle, but maybe try to find something about food that sparks an interest. Even if you create some lovely fruit art to eat with your vanilla greek yogurt lol! Even if your brain tells you that you WILL NOT eat that food you're thinking of making, make it anyway. If you can't make yourself taste it this time at least explore if you like the smell. See if others like what you made. Feed back from friends and family feels good sometimes. As for being scared that you might not reach your goals--well, that scares me too. I'm sure a lot of people on these forums will tell you that's always lurking in their mind. It's like a monster under the bed and a really hard thing to deal with. But you HAVE to eat just like I do. You WILL slow your weight loss by refusing to do it. You will watch your hair fall out, your muscles shrivel up. Hug yourself right now. You agreed to surgery because you wanted help with control, you wanted a healthier body, you wanted to be a better person than the one you were before surgery. Don't forget it. Think about that and instead of opening up a can of tuna, gross , make yourself a chicken tenderloin with sesame and garlic. You can even strive for similar calorie goal for now, but make each calorie super delicious! Hug, you can do this.

August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Browngirls21 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My sleeve was done on 8/14. I see the doctor on Wednesday for my 4 week check and an upgrade to puréed foods. All along I have been having a hard time meeting my liquids and protein in. Getting better but improvement needed. Eating a Greek yogurt now. But I am not going to complain as I am 41pounds down as of today. But really looking forward to soft foods which is about 2 weeks away. -
Hi I feel like crying... today I had my first experience with blockage of food in my esophagus. It felt like I was about to have a heart attack or something , I was on the verge of passing out. Stupid me thinking I would push it down with some yogurt since you can’t drink.. I made it worse. My heart was palpating really fast , I was getting dizzy , I was shaking on my feet until I put a finger in my mouth and vomit most of it out... what came out was a weird thick slimey substance I had left over tilapia fish from yesterday which was dry. I knew before hand it would be a risk of me eating it cuz of the dryness but here I am , still eating it. 2 bites and I went through hell. I’m 3 weeks and 4 days post op. I still feel something blocking but I’m drinking water.... Food is my enemy. Before the surgery it was my enemy and i abused it made myself morbidly obese and now after surgery It feels like it tries to kill me. I know I’m super emotional. I never experienced being thin and care free, seeing people who are thin and care free of what they eat makes me so jealous and makes me feel so low. I have to watch out for the rest of my life of the stuff I put in my mouth. Life is unfair but we deal with it. This by far worse than dumping syndrome. I have learned my lesson. No more tilapia fish for me for awhile. Thanks for reading xoxo

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
rs replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been using plain Greek yogurt in place of sour cream. I'd always heard about doing that but couldn't bear to try it. Well, now post surgery I'm doing it and it's really not bad. It has a similar sour-ish taste but of course more health benefits. -
I start my day with a Premier Protein drink. If I don't, I struggle to get all my protein in. I just can't eat enough to do it. I follow that up mid-morning with a boiled egg or greek yogurt, sometimes hummus and cucumber slices. I have coffee 30 minutes after breakfast. My pouch is like iron. I seem to tolerate everything so my choices are limitless but I definitely feel restriction so my portions are small. I don't want to stretch my pouch out so I tend to eat 5 or 6 very small meals a day. I always eat protein first, always. If I don't, then I can eat more food which is not good. Protein fills me up to the point that I often can't eat anything I paired with it. If I get scared that I might have stretched my pouch out then I do a liquid only day the next day and that seems to reset it and help me feel the restriction. I've only over eaten twice and felt miserable both times. Tight chest, painful stomach and felt like the food was overflowing in my stomach back up my esophagus. It was awful.

I thought I should relate this especially to Tea: My yogurt smelled a little dicey this afternoon, but I figured, "Meh, I'll give it a gamble." (You know, cuz I thought of you throwing out your good yogurt due to the expi date being past its prime.) Well, that might not have been the smartest decision I've ever made. I'm not feeling so fresh and lively right now. -

This actually does happen. I'm just now eating my first meal--PB&J "yogurt" with SF Hershey's chocolate syrup. ROFLMAO! Yep yep, better living through chemistry. I have a salmon salad planned for lunch and I'm like, "Fork! I don't wanna go make it, I don't wanna eat it...maybe when I get hungry later, I'll just go grab a couple of ounces of leftover salmon and call it done." -

Can I just tell you all that I didn't get around to breakfast until 12:30pm and when I did, I re-fell in love with it all over again? I haven't made this in a LONG time. I can't have just a bowl of Greek yogurt cuz it pushes my insulin too high. So I make my own "yogurt" out of mixing Greek yogurt with 2% Daisy cottage cheese + 1oz of PP vanilla protein. I will usually add about 4 drops of liquid Stevia to it. This morning (hehe, er noon) I remembered about my old PB & J concoction using Walden Farms Blueberry Syrup and HEB organic frozen blueberries and Vitacost Peanut Butter Slim peanut butter powder. Jasus, Mary, and Joseph! Hold me. It made a 4oz ramekin full and I sucked it down in less than 10 minutes. But it was so dang delicious!! You should all run out and buy the ingredients. It was def a "better living through chemistry" moment I thought I needed to share! *snort*
