    Any December 2021 bypass people?

December 27th here! Bypass and Hiatal Hernia repair. Nervous but excited!

SO much pain 2 days out

I had a large hiatal hernia repair with my bypass, and felt like I'd been hit by a truck that first week. So it can definitely knock you about! As others have said, walk as far as you can each day without overdoing it to alleviate the gas pain, and the surgery pain will improve. It took me about two weeks to not feel pain when breathing in.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

It seems I posted under the wrong thread since I have had gastric bypass 🤦🏻‍♀️ But it still is the same journey for all of us regardless of the kinda procedure we have had 😂 First 2 days, pain was bothersome but managed with Tylenol and resting. I have experienced resting for an hour or so helps a lot. So I follow that and only use 2 or 3 regular strength 325mg of Tylenol. I feel much better today (Day 3). So hoping by the end of the week, I'll be able to stroll without having to hold my stomach. Hope everyone is progressing well on your respective end. 🤗

    Considering revision

Unfortunately, I have moved since my surgery so I am no longer in touch with my original surgeon. I am waiting on a referral from my doctor for the revision at the moment. I don't know much about the DS in comparison to the bypass. I know a few people who have the RNY though. Thank you for your suggestions!

    November 2021 surgeries

I know I’m not a November buddy, but wondering about this compression garment…where did you get it? I have been thinking it may be helpful
  6. I had gastric sleeve surgery and a hiatal hernia repaired on November 30th and cannot believe the pain that I am in. Everything hurts: my legs, my arms, and of course my stomach. Is this normal? Of course I also have gas pains. Just wondering if so much pain is normal.
  7. So I have just had the surgery yesterday and I was prescribed to take Lansoprozole and docusate (Colace). Both of them are in capsule form. Is it alright to take the entire capsule right from day 2? Instruction doesn't mention anything specific on how to take it. I have taken them and they haven't bothered or hurt me. So wondering if it's safe to take them as it is in the capsule form? Please let me know if I am doing it wrong. Thank you.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Hi I'm 8 weeks gastric bypass on Wednesday. 34lb at moment but my surgeon and team say slow and sure as I was like wow people loose far more faster but I started at 266lb. I stalled at some point but I take a picture every month on the first and the difference is showing. My mobility is so much better and I can now buy clothes in normal shops and stopping to hide under my baggies. Your doing great keep up the fantastic work Xxx
  10. If you have GERD now, then you should opt for a gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y, always abbreviated RNY here). It's literally the solution for GERD and sometimes when vertical gastric sleeve (VSG) patients get GERD post-op, they revise the surgery to RNY. So let me ask you this: what's worse for your health? Having to monitor your blood levels of vitamins and supplement, or being obese and developing comorbidities? You'll find a LOT of people think that surgery is somehow a way of "cheating". Don't listen to those idiots, who've never looked into it.
  11. I had gastric bypass surgery in July 2021 and am starting to regret it. I have been really sick unable to eat or drink since. I'm so weak I can barley get out of bed most days. I'm concerned about loosening my job because of it as well. I just had a procedure done about a week ago to widen the pouch the doc called it. It was supposed to help I guess it has in a way I can finally eat about 8 blueberries a day or i pick at a banana through the day, I've also been able to down about half a drinkable yogurt. But I'm still getting sick . Alot of foods or even smells make me gag. Water tastes horrible to me for some reason. I started to drink Gatorade it has helped with some fluid intake. I don't want to be a downer for others but does anyone know if this will get better.

    GERD after nearly 3 years!!

GERD is a possible complication of VSG, but like others have said, there could be something else causing it, too - like an ulcer or hiatal hernia. If it's GERD, it can usually be managed medically. In severe cases, converting a bypass will often cure it.
  13. Why do you attribute the GERD to the surgery? Bypass is actually a treatment for GERD.
  14. One thing I can tell you from my very experience is, you can have 20 physicians in a room and still won't find 2 to agree on anything. So evidence shows that to decrease the size of the liver, there is no consensus on how long the diet should go on for. With bypass, given they have to access the gastro-esophageal junction which the left lobe of the liver can obscure, this will definitely warrant a diet of longer duration. In the paper I read, generally the longer the diet the more shrinkage, however... A greater decrease in size was noted with higher protein diets. Also you risk being in a catabolic state (this is not good for healing) if you are on these low calorie liquid diets for too long. All this to say, some surgeons change their practices to reflect the evidence. Some were just trained a certain way and stuck with it. Im on a week long diet and my BMI is 41
  15. Did you try doing a search for November? Never mind I just searched it and see it is truly gone. I also see you contacted website support. Hopefully they will fix it.
  16. I had a gastric bypass the day before thanksgiving and there’s one area that is still hurting very bad to the point I can hardly stand up. I spoke with a nurse at my doctors office and she said that during the procedure my bowel had been knicked so they had to put in a “deep stitch”. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this
  17. Hi, The November surgery thread on the gastric sleeve forum seems to have disappeared. Please can you reinstate it or allow me access again? It's where all my buddies are!
  18. I can't see it any more! Has it been removed for some reason??

    Considering It

Yep, the emotional eating issue needs addressing before WLS. It seems to be a BIG reason why a lot of folks really struggle post-surgery. It's the thing that really trips folks up. You can't replace a coping mechanism with nothing. The surgery itself (at least for a bypass) helps you switch up your habits and re-learn a new normal through restriction and hunger reduction. My personal experience has been zero hunger and having to pretty much remember to eat, and I'm truly done in a couple of mouthfuls. Drinking protein water and regular water fills me up. A switch has definitely been flicked in me, and while I know my hunger will eventually return to a degree, the surgery is giving me the luxury of time to unlearn bad habits and embrace better ones. The big reason I always failed before surgery was self-sabotage. I'd get to almost where I wanted, then some event would trigger a binge and it would all fall apart. The surgery is going to stop that binge and help me stay the course. And I'm honestly finding a lot of joy in not caring about food like I did. I still *think* about food, because it's a habit of a lifetime, but I no longer care about it. Let me just say it's great that you're taking your time and weighing this up before leaping in. All your doubts and questions are important ones to consider.
  20. I had my RNY bypass at Mexican Bariatric Center in Tijuana and my surgeon was Dr. Rodriguez Lopez. My Nov 18 surgery went well, and I am recovering without issues back at home. Medical tourism is a huge business for Mexico — they said in our patient intro class that it’s about 5% of Mexico’s GDP. A driver met me and other patients/companions at the San Diego airport and transported us to the hotel in Tijuana (a Hyatt Place which was nice with an added plus of making GREAT chicken broth due to the number of bariatric patients who stay there). It took 35 minutes to drive there from San Diego airport, but about 3 hours to return due to the lines at the border. Due to covid protocols, the companions stayed at the hotel and weren’t able to visit anyone at the hospital (for that reason, I did not bring a companion). I was nervous about the flight home by myself (I had a connecting flight and although the surgery went well, it was still abdominal surgery), but I flew United and they were WONDERFUL in terms of arranging for transport and accommodating my situation. I had a hike out to long-term parking once I arrived at my home airport (didn’t think that one through), but simply took my time and rested several times. I had also worked with my PCP leading up to the surgery and have my first follow up visit tomorrow. I would also strongly encourage anyone who pursues WLS in Mexico to prearrange for local medical care. I get tons of information and nutritional advice from MBC, but obviously the support is digital only given the distance. I worked locally and my insurance would have covered it, but the normal wait time plus the covid-related delays and backlog meant I was looking at a one-to-two year delay. I’m 53 and simply decided it was worth the money to accelerate the process, especially after I had a gout flare up early this year. Like Sleeve_Me_Alone, this was the right choice for me and I have no regrets. I wish you well in your decision making!

    November 2021 surgeries

*Raises hand* I had gastric bypass on Nov 18, also in Mexico. Been feeling great since then except for some bouts of fatigue. I have a TOUGH time getting up in the morning (always have, but caffeine used to help). Check in with my local GP tomorrow and hoping to be cleared for more activity!

    Water and Protein Intake

I’m about a month and a half out from bypass and I haven’t had any issue drinking enough. I was expecting to feel an issue if I drink too much, or too fast but it’s been suspiciously easy. Hope I’m not hurting myself.
