I’m looking for a good unflavored protein that mixes well. I want to add it to my yogurt/coffee/soup. I had some right after surgery but even though it said unflavored you could taste a difference. Also it didn’t blend well. Any ideas is appreciated.

My surgery date is coming
iattcom replied to CRD1981's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was having a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, and then a sandwich with as much protein as a shake for dinner at work with two cheese sticks, and a yogurt snack when I got home from work. -

Let me tell you all: I was born to be a vegetarian. I had to do a cleanse just to set my system right... I will still be cleansing for a few more days, thanks Smooth Move tea! Lol That's why I was a no show... it was a shorter fast for me because , well it's the weekend and I don't usually fast on Saturdays. Today I had oatmeal (rare) and yogurt together, the salad below and a mini kind bar (something else but I can't remember) & banana protein shake in iced coffee (really good) thanks @FluffyChix MPF says I had 1000 cals, 92g protein, 70ish of carbs, I ignore fats, I eat enough nuts to know it high... So here's my salad. Black bean and avocado salad. Water tea coffee on repeat... -
Who is sick of purees? Some fresh ideas...
Blessed1969 replied to Naughty Glitter Goddess's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am new to group first day. I am in the pureed stage but can not visually handle what it looks like so I chew everything I eat up really fine and have not had any issues. Things like scrambled eggs, beans, fish and other meats ( can't be dry). I still have protein shakes and Greek yogurt. I go see my surgeon on Monday will let you guys know how it goes. I'm 4 weeks and 1 day post-op bypass. I am so thankful for this group. I -
2-days post op - Meds?
Lynn Cannon replied to TakingBackChrissy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks postop. It’s very difficult! I hope you are crushing your meds - very necessary. Don’t be swallowing whole pills at this point. The med for acid reflux should be a capsule that you can open up. I put the crushed meds on a little yogurt to get it down. You can always call the emergency line for your surgeon or talk to your pharmacist. You are getting rid of the gas from surgery. - will take a while. Take care!!! -
Steel cut oatmeal with protein powder added. Greek yogurt, plain with swerve seeetener and vanilla added. Chili!

I definitely snack. There’s not all that much difference for me yet between snacks and meals! Is a 1/2 cup of green yogurt a meal, or a snack? How about a protein bar? Either way, it’s eating 5-6 times a day. Protein first.

The Fall
Naughty Glitter Goddess replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
OMG, I literally just posted about a nasty Pumpkin Spice Yogurt I tried today. Anyway, I'm a summertime person, so the beginning of autumn feels like the end of my fun. To top it off I'm in Oregon so it's also the start of the 8 months of clouds/rain/no sun. Comfort food is how I usually get through. I have winter restaurants that are cozy, comfort food places with fireplaces that I only go to in the winter. That food is not going to work for my pouch this winter. So, I'm thinking of trying to find the coziness without the comfort food. My husband and I love to camp in the fall and winter - everything feels cozy and tastes great when you're bundled up under a canopy in the rain eating things roasted over the campfire and drinking hot beverages - so that will definitely work. But for your average day, I'm going to start mixing in some hiking in the woods for my exercise (we don't mind getting wet in Oregon). I really think that a shower, a hot drink and climbing under a blanket with my kids after a cold, wet hike will be the Ultimate in cozy comfort! -
OK, even though I know there’s a whole bunch of you that are going to disregard this PSA, here goes: I am tired of all the sugar free yogurt flavors from OIKOS and Dannon Light & Fit. I try to eat plain Fage as much as I can but sometimes I need some flavor and I’ve just been able to start adding fancy things to my yogurt. So, imagine my excitement when I found this little gem today! It. Is. So. Gross. I mean, right when I got the spoon close to my face, I knew it was going to be terrible, but I did it anyway. Do not eat this item. It is not food. Now, I don’t know why I was excited in the first place. I don’t like pumpkin pie OR pumpkin spice anything. I love cinnamon & nutmeg but I lean toward apple not pumpkin. And pumpkin pie is particularly revolting as the texture is disgusting as well. So, why would I buy this? THAT’S HOW DESPERATE I AM, PEOPLE! You’ve been sufficiently warned. Do what you will.

Have you checked the food and nutrition forum? There are some pureed ideas. Also, Pinterest. I ate a lot of soups, yogurts, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and various stews. My favorite was zucchini stew.
-
I made a cauliflower/cheese soup that was delicious pureed. I also ate applesauce, Greek yogurt, smoothies, etc. I couldn't stand the texture of pureed meat. I just waited for soft foods for that.

I add ground organic flax seed to my yogurt daily. adds fiber and keeps you fuller longer. It adds a nutty flavor. I also have noticed if I have a tsp or TBS of peanut butter, it adds fiber to my meal along with protein, but I can almost guarantee the next day I will have a BM.
-
Are you on the pureed stage yet? I am getting in most of my protein through non shakes. Starkist Tuna creations, Wonderslim shakes/pudding meal replacements, cheese sticks, cottage cheese, yogurt with ground flax (helps with fiber / constipation) - I noticed I was fuller longer with shakes but I couldn't meet my protein. Since I've switched and reduced shakes - I feel better and may eat more often but my body is definitely adjusting and liking this version better.

Help!! Don’t know what to eat!
S@ssen@ch replied to likehasjustbegun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 9 weeks, I was eating regular food with the exception of raw veggies. I usually started my day with a protein shake so that I got a big protein boost at the beginning of the day, but eventually switched to greek yogurt. Even now I don't eat a lot of raw veggies because they fill me up and I don't have room for the protein. If you're afraid of getting stuck, try soft foods for a while until you get the hang of it. Soft scrambled eggs? Beans? Lentils? Chicken (dark meat is moister, but I didn't have trouble with white meat). I think I even had steak, cooked medium and chewed well. The key to not getting that "stuck" feeling is chewing very well and not eating foods that will expand in your stomach (pasta, rice, bread). *If you know you're not getting enough protein, I suggest continuing with protein supplements until you get the hang of how to eat with your new stomach. -
Help!! Don’t know what to eat!
likehasjustbegun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! So I am almost 9 weeks out from the sleeve and I am having trouble eating. I’m at the regular diet stage but everything I try to eat I either don’t like it or I am terrified of it getting “stuck” and possibly vomiting(which I’ve been able to avoid thus far). I think my fear of getting sick is getting in the way of me eating and I’m definitely not getting the amount of protein in which I should. I’m pretty much just eating yogurt and cheddar cheese sticks and some soup occasionally. I want things but I just don’t want to get sick! Can you guys please help with suggestions on things I can eat?? I spoke with my NUT but it’s very generic, tuna, fish, ground meat, etc. I don’t like tuna or fish, and ground meat has become icky to me. I hate to complain and I’m super happy with my decision I’m just so stuck with what to eat because I know I’m not having enough. Please help! Thank you! -
Hi Kate! I am Megan from St. Paul. I had RNY in July and am also struggling with protein. The shakes are so terrible (in my opinion). This weekend I am going to try blending up some of the tasteless protein powder with honey flavored greek yogurt, milk and berries. I hope it tastes ok! I am also going to look for other ideas for protein shakes/smoothies I can make at home that are tolerable. Let me know if you have any ideas for recipes. Take care, Megan

August bypassers/sleevers
loserlisainpa replied to ShianneB's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
HI group, Im now 3 weeks post op. Feeling pretty good...but trying to understand all these new "feelings" in my belly lol. The constipation has been a problem and I have not yet found a solution. I have taken milk of magnesia a couple times when it was really bad and that worked but I cant take that every day. I have been taking a stool softner in pill form everyday and its not doing anything. I may try the stuff you stir in water. Can anyone recommend something that doesnt have strong flavor or taste gritty? My doctors office told my all my liquids count toward "water" so my cup of tea in the morning counts and my breakfast protein shake counts. I make the protein shake with a scoop of chocolate protein isolate, 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk and 8oz of cold coffee. So that alone gives me 16oz of liquid and 31g of protein. The rest of the day is water and protein. I like the ricotta bake, egg salad, baked talapia, kidney beans, greek yogurt and my evening "treat" is a no sugar added fudgcicle (yum). I am band to rny revision and the weight is coming off very slow. I'm okay with that I guess I've lost 9.8 pounds in the last 3 weeks. Hope everyone is doing great! Lisa -
Hi all! Surgery date is on October 8th and I am so excited and nervous at the same time. What are some of the things you all are doing for your liquid diet? I am considering Pure Protein or Premier Protein powders for my shakes. My surgeon recommended 4 shakes/day in between I can have plain Greek yogurt, sugar free popsicle and pudding (meh). If one shake is 25-30g protein wouldn’t that be too much protein for 1 day? Will have to call my nutritionist. Anyway I’m glad to be a part of the October sleevers!

How many calories should I eat 1.5yrs post op SADI-S
magpie26 replied to DixieD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@DixieD oh geez! I didn't even pay attention to your type of surgery, that's one i don't know enough about. I had the sleeve, pretty basic, right? But I feel hungry all the time, someone suggested tums (maybe it was that chick up there lol!) those sort of help. I don't do shakes and I try to stay away from bars like fluffy said. I eat basic too and I'm not afraid of fat, I don't follow keto or Paleo but do my own thing. I eat a lot of yogurt, cheeses, nuts and I'll indulge and have REAL bacon with my one egg. I know you have absorption issues with your surgery but my nut said and I've seen some articles that say over 100 grams of protein is pointless because we pee it all out, the extra i mean. I don't know, I feel the being hungry thing, and I am not supposed to be hungry according to what everything said about the sleeve. I just drink water, or Crystal light or decaf tea and I have struggles with fluid off and on too. It seriously feels like it's a job to.drink water, I loved it before, now it's a chore. My doctor also upped my PPI dose too. I'm going to.educate myself on your surgery though because i.Don't know enough about it and I feel like i.should know what my WLS brothers and sisters go through -
2nd Week post op
Livetothrive replied to Richard Hayes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During liquid I ate: Yogurt, blended soups, jello, sugar-free popsicles, Fairlife milk (has WAY more protein than regular milk and no lactose), chicken broth, sugar-free pudding It's rough - but it's really a pretty short amount of time. I just graduated to Pureed diet and that transition is going slowly. My new tummy doesn't like some of the foods. I didn't digest pureed ground turkey well...at all. It is definitely a lot of trial and error! Best of luck to you! -
Stomach pains when introducing purée diet
Livetothrive replied to E G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had this same issue two days ago. I tried pureed ground turkey with refried beans and ended up getting sick for the first time since my surgery. It was pretty awful. I am sticking with cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, yogurt, and some soups for a bit. Jello and sugar free popsicles are a nice treat too! I may need to become a vegetarian. lol I have to make myself eat - food still kinda grosses me out for the moment. I don't suffer from acid reflux, but my doctor prescribes a medicine to take for 3 months for acid for all patients. Switching from liquid to pureed food takes time, I think. I am just thankful I tried pureed foods before coming back to work today! That would have been awful! -
Hello. I'm new. I think I'm failing...
Cynisca replied to Era254's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey! We have the same surgery date. I just experienced last week a "stall" where I lost 1 lb. I was mortified. The stall ended though on day 7. I'm consuming about the same amount as calories as you and I too work out 1hr at least a day. I also add in 10000 steps a day so I'm moving during the day alot. The only difference I see is that I consume over 70G of protein a day up to 80g. I eat fish alot, it's high in protein and low in fat. For Breakfast I stick with Egg whites which is high protein too. I will also add a scoop of plain protein to my yogurt snacks to bump it up. When I don't have at least 70g of protein I am STARVING. My nutritionist told me it's because I'm working out hard and more active than most. So if you like fish, it's a great protein option. I am down 46lbs since surgery ....and I started heavier than you so honestly I think you are right on par with where you should be weight wise. Try the protein increase and see if the hunger goes away (it should). -
@sassysleever76, I'm so sorry for your loss and understand where you are coming from. I lost my fiancé (he was 2 weeks shy of turning 38) 13 years ago and for some reason the 9th anniversary of his death was one of the hardest for me. Try to turn your attention to something positive. You're on a new journey and think about how happy your husband will be for you to know that you are taking care of yourself and making positive choices. When you start to feel blue, go for a walk, go to the gym and work out the sadness and change those sad hormones to positive and happy endorphins. As for the constipation, my suggestion is a little Milk of Magnesia daily or find a way to increase your fiber, I've become a fan of ground flaxseed and yogurt daily. You've realized your error, now is the time to take control of your actions and put a stop. You haven't done any damage to yourself, you have this and you will succeed. Remember, stalls do happen and sometimes they last, but don't focus on that, focus on the positive changes you have made to yourself and your new lifestyle.
