Anyone not telling anyone about their surgery?
Seagull replied to taramarie523's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't tell anyone except my spouse, my immediate boss, my big boss, and one guy at work that just had it done. I am not keeping it a secret once it is done, cause I really don't care, I just don't want to listen to the BS for several months leading up to it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone not telling anyone about their surgery?
kyle.odom replied to taramarie523's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I work in the medical field, so I'm constantly around a lot of "know it all's" but I refuse to lie about what why I am taking off work. I am sort of a no BS type of person, and feel that my decision to have the gastric sleeve procedure done is my choice and my business. However, if someone asks what I am having done, I will tell them, and when they start to tell me why I should not have it done, or that I'm not big enough to undergo such a procedure, I just tell them that my decision is made and continue with my convo/work. Therefore, most of my coworkers know and I'm okay with it. Truth is, a lot of the people with so many opinions would probably have it done as well if they could afford it or if their insurance would approve them. -

Anyone not telling anyone about their surgery?
taramarie523 replied to taramarie523's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So what are you going to tell people? Part of me wants to be like "sorry can't attend this outing bc I'm having my gallbladder removed" or something but ya know but hey now let's knock on wood I don't wanna jinx myself and then watch one day I'll need it out and I've already used that excuse lol. I don't want to full on lie but maybe a good little fib? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My Nut finalized her part and forwarded it to insurance company. I received an approval letter within 10 calendar days from BCBS Fed employees. The surgeons office called and scheduled a pre-surgery appointment (for a surgery date & pre-op check-up) that was about 2 weeks later, earliest they had open. I had basically began my somewhat modified (about 90%) pre-op diet at that point. When I had pre-surgery appointment I found out that I could have surgery within about 9 days (normally a 2 week pre-op diet). Because I had started, somewhat, earlier that was an option. I didn't take it because it was not a first-in the OR timeframe. I ended up waiting about another week for a 'first-in' apt for the OR.

I am only 4 days post op & already losing. I am so excited. My surgeon told me not to weigh myself for at least a week because the IV fluids will create excess Water weight - but I just had to know where I stood. I have been losing 1lb per day every day, I weight myself the same time every morning just to see. I just wanted to share my excitement! I know it will slow down later and maybe even stall but for now I'm relieved bc tbh I am getting sick of Protein shakes so seeing progress is motivation. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

@bbyisonu. Thank you! I was worried at first bc the day after surgery I was already taking in 50oz...and I don't want to stretch my pouch but nurses and my surgeon keep saying it is OK...it's a good sign? Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

Thinking about it....
SashaWLS replied to AuburnDarling's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That cop out line is the biggest BS ever!! WHY SHOULD IT BE HARD? People get surgery all the time and this is important. No one would think twice about it if it were, lets say, surgery to fix your knee more quickly than doing "naturally" through years of physical therapy. It's ridiculous. It's bias. Because inherently there's some lame belief that you did it to yourself and therefore you deserve it. But that's not true. This is medical. Read this, it was my tipping point. When I read it, I felt so helpless that I just thought WTF and got the surgery: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/01/magazine/tara-parker-pope-fat-trap.html?_r=0 -
Affirmations
finallyfree! replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks all for condolences. We are all in shock, so sudden, so young. Well, tomorrow is sleeve day for me. I have made my soups (tofu makes a soup creamy but is protein), bought my drinks, dogs are suspicious as both are wearing collars, cats arent worried so long as they get fed. I am nervous but have all of you as inspiration, so what is my affirmation going in? 'My body is going to love this'. Let you know how I go. -
I was just discharged from hospital today I had the bypass on 03/31. Bring Chapstick, comfy house shoes, your favorite crystal light, and your favorite hot tea ++ gas x strips. Walk ASAP.. I walked the day I had surgery even though it was excruciating....I cried and walked it takes a while for gas to pass but all the others who had surgery same day as me had to stay addtl night in hospital bc they were in so much pain and not passing gas bc they would not walk. GP says to do Weight Watchers instead
VSGAnn2014 replied to careya123's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
All the above horrific stories of how inconsistently many patients' qualifications for WLS are considered by PCPs and GPs illustrate how antiquated the treatment of obesity still is. In @@BCs 1000 case, she presented the identical weight and weight-loss history and actual facts to two different GPs and got two radically different levels of support -- one failed to support her at all (and also seemed incompetent to observe information and analyze it) while the other GP, after being lobbied heavily by an RN, offered the support the patient needed and deserved all along. This situation doesn't describe a scientifically-based medical practice at all. I look forward to the improvements "big data" can and will make to medical decision trees. Medicine is still such a hit-or-miss affair and dependent on doctors' personal opinions that are shockingly ungrounded in actual medical science. -
I did email my surgeons office in Mexico about a week ago. Havent heard anything from them except sorry to hear that. I will be in contact with them again as the surgeon has yet to contact me. I cant believe that this hernia was not present during my sleeve surgery on the 11th. All I know is that this extra surgery has caused me nothing but problems. Had to be fed through iv because I hadn't been able to keep anything down for the 5 days prior to going to emergency room. I gained like 10 lbs being fed through iv. Hoping it is all Water weight and getting back on track again. Thank you all for the words of encouragement.

I was asked to stop 4 weeks before and not to start them again for 4 weeks weeks after bc birth control and surgery both increase the risk for blood clots, so they don't want to stack your risk factors.

I'm having cravings and snacking..HELP
Bufflehead replied to TinaSteven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I have been there! Here is what has helped me get back on track: Six day carb detox. For the entire six days, I only eat unprocessed meat (no bacon, sausage, lunch/deli meat, jerky), eggs, green veggies, and healthy fats (olive oil, coconut oil, grass fed butter): days 1 & 2, I let myself eat as much as I want, whenever I want, and do not record on MyFitnessPal. Days 3 & 4, eat as much as I want but record on MyFitnessPal. Days 5 & 6, set calorie maximum at 1,000 Protein goal at 100 grams, weigh all my portions and record on MyFitnessPal. Stay within my goal ranges. After that, keep logging and gradually integrate in fruit, legumes, nuts, and dairy. No grains, starchy veggies, or sweets at all. They trigger cravings for me. Plan my eating every day. When I will eat and what I will have. When cravings strike, look at my food plan and remind myself of when I get to eat next. Get all "bad" food out of the house. I look at the times and places that give me trouble. I was struggling to resist buying candy and sweet breads (pumpkin bread) at our snack shop at work, and struggling to avoid the vending machines there. So I stopped taking money and credit and debit cards to work with me. I can't buy something if I have no way to pay for it. -

I'm not a drinker- haven't for 9 years due to the meds I take. But was wondering- DO people drink after having BS? I always thought it was a no-no.
-
Check your policy regarding co morbitities really carefully! My bmi is 35.2 so I just make the 35 cutoff and I have high blood pressure and mild sleep apnea. My insurance denied me bc the policy says blood pressure only qualifies if I were to take 3 meds or more and sleep apnea only qualifies if it's severe. They are making it more and more difficult, my bp always sucks but I only take one med bc that's all I can afford and side effects suck!!!!

One year after sleeve surgery can you eat a whole bagel with cream cheese?
FrankyG replied to Gail Ann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ETA: Okay I call BS on this poster. Their posts are all "I can eat a whole bagel!" and "I'm drinking beer!" So they either got their sleeve from someone that didn't bother to tell them ANYTHING regarding nutrition, or they are willfully ignoring what they're supposed to be doing, or they're trolling. This is a joke, right? Troll post? LOL and all that? That's really an awful food to eat regularly and frankly not very smart to attempt to eat the whole thing. And even more questionable to make it your one meal a day. Or to even think eating once a day is a good idea. Wow, just all sorts of wrong there. If you're being serious, then you're crazypants even attempting this and eating something that carby regularly is very wrong, and yeah, hardly any Protein, so you're going to lose muscle (and likely hair), feel like crap and start looking sickly after a while of that sort of "diet" habit. You're supposed to be eating protein first, then vegetables, then complex carbs (like brown rice or beans). A bagel with cream cheese is junk food. Why on earth would you think this is a good idea? -
Joint pain/arthritis as comorbidity?
Jennjjcac replied to FreeTheSkinny66's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have BC BS and the did thankfully list the acceptable co-morbidities. One was degenerative joint disease; which I had documented in an X-ray for the back. My PCP said arthritis of any kind was really DJD. I too am under 40 BMI and don't have traditional high BP, cholesterol or diabetes. So the DJD was a huge deal for me. I also have fibromyalgia so I am hoping for less pain after my surgery. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Family functions post op
taramarie523 replied to taramarie523's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ohh heyyyy fellow Italian jersey girl lol!!! The struggle is real. the more and more you think about things you realize holy shit every thing we do is revolved around food. It's the cure all for everything. It's the base of happy and sad times, celebrations and mourning. I'm not to concerned about the temptations and such at functions bc I've always been more of a person to "eat with caution" in public anyway but the questions I'm not looking forward to. I'm a pretty straight forward person so not telling the complete truth about this is hard but I just don't really want to put it out there to everyone. People can be so judgy and ain't no body got time for that Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Cheese is definitely one of the main staples out of my diet. I have become a total cheese snob since surgery. I go to local gourmet cheese shops and buy grass fed, non-GMO, high and delicious cheeses that I eat every day with fruit. I also like the sweet red cheddar from whole foods. I suggest trying grass fed, goats milk cheeses, organic, and artisan.
