5 years post op & I’m scared
Justoperated replied to RoseGoldHeart's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am five years post op too. I took vitamins only for first year. I have checked my levels every 6 months or so and they are normal. I do take vitamins but not regularly. Haven’t had gallstones but I guess it because I did not loose that much. -
Ahh wow! We could go through the journey together. Its nerve wracking. I'm so worried about the lose skin and how my body will change... I'm worried about it making me ill for years after. Doesnt help that I work in operating theatres and see when things go wrong either... I'm 33, almost 16stone and probably around 5'6. The surgeon said that now I've lost abit of weight, that if I came now when I wouldnt qualify as my BMI isnt high enough, but he said from previous letters I do qualify so he will do it. I've tried and tried to do it on my own, I lose and then it doesnt stay off. Its hard and seems impossible that this is the only option. I dont want to look back when I'm older and wish that I did it sooner. I want to be able to do more with my kids etc. How come your bf doesnt want you to have it done? Is he worried about the fact its surgery? Theres just me and the kids at home, so that worries me abit. Atleast you'll have him for support once its done🙂 Thank you for that page, I'll check it out when the kids are in bed and asleep so I get some peace lol. Keep in touch with me and let me know how you get on too. Are you in the UK? Do you have a 2 week meal plan for before surgery too? X

2 weeks today since my RNY surgery. Doing and eating great.
Slimming Down Steve replied to Slimming Down Steve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I remember you had the surgery the same day. I'm glad you are doing good. I was in heaven with the lunch meat, that was the first thing I tried during my liquid stage. After that was the low fat great value brand mozzarella cheese sticks. They pull apart into thin sections so they were easier on my new stomach. Hope this helps you and keep up the good work! I actually had to increase my calories to 800 a day before I started loosing weight again. I eat 3 main proteins and 3 snacks like yogurt, salmon, cheese stick, or lunch meat a day. So really 6 proteins a day. -
This was my fave part about my reduction 10 years ago. Instead of my droopy water balloons, I got perky (albeit much smaller) girls who defied gravity. Now with >115 pounds gone since that time, they’ve all but disappeared, but at least I don’t have all of the loose skin

gastric bypass side effects
AZhiker replied to skyewolfe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here are some things that happened and no one told me about: I lost my boobs - like LOST them. They are down there somewhere. 42DD to 34A. I have to special order bras. My bottom is so bony that it hurts to sit on hard chairs. I had so much energy during the active weight loss and ketosis that I couldn't sleep. I was the energizer bunny on steroids. I lost my food shelf - you know, that convenient bulge where you can put your plate when you sit in the recliner. I had to buy a whole new wardrobe. Size 24 pants to 10. I was actually comfortable this past summer in the heat.... but I am freezing all the time now. I have saggy skin, but I lost my triple chin, my thighs don't rub, and no more fungal infections from folds and heat. My little grandson squeezes my upper arms and says, "Squishy." I can't swim very well anymore. I just sink. I lost all my buoyancy. I had to get a new wedding band. I found new bones I didn't ever remember having - collar bones, ribs, hips. But on the flip side, I don't have GERD, sleep apnea, or high blood pressure anymore. My HDL, triglyceride, and A1c numbers are awesome. I can sit in any chair in the room, my seat belt doesn't rub on my neck, I can walk, hike, and ride my bike for hours without stopping, my resting pulse rate is in the 40's, I can get down on the floor and get up by myself, my bath towel goes all the way around me plus extra left over, I am one of the smallest people in a room instead of the largest, my necklaces hang down onto my chest, I can buy clothes in any store and in regular departments, and people call me "skinny." Unbelievable! -
December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
aelgin7779 replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wish I could but I'm allergic to adhesive. The patches would literally burn my skin off. I may try one without the extra iron and see if I can tolerate that. Some is better than none I would think -
January 2020 Surgery Date
Krimsonbutterflies replied to Krimsonbutterflies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While we are waiting for updates from our ppl who had surgery today/this week...I've got some updates, I decided to start packing my hospital bag tonight. I needed a distraction from hunger and nerves, lol. I've purchased something loose to wear to the hospital, lounge wear for after surgery (for home), Gas-X, Tums, Mederma, lightly scented hand sanitizer (I'm a germaphobe), extra unscented chapsticks, a cute little basket to put supplies in by my different areas in the house. I'm a over planner, I prefer to be over prepared instead of underprepared. I'm not going to carry supplies from room to room. I'd rather have little stations set up, pillows to prop up and shoes by the door for short walks. I'm getting antsy.....ready for my pre-op Friday at least, I have a million questions for my surgeon. On a side note: Thank you guys for letting me ramble on and on.. -
Lap Band Removal and Revision Suggestions Needed
soccermonster31 replied to soccermonster31's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So I had a consult with the surgeon that did my upper GI. He is recommending I revise to the Sleeve. His estimate is I will lose the same amount of weight with the Sleeve or with Bypass, but Bypass has greater risk of complication. I have a couple friends who have the sleeve and didn't loose the weight they wanted to, hit a plateau and have gained back some weight. I'm worried about that. A complication of my band has been GERD, so I am also worried about that continuing if I have the sleeve. The surgeon really seemed to be pushing the sleeve, same with his office staff. But it was the same 10 years ago when I had the lap band, and now that has fallen out of favor...will the same happen with the sleeve? Should I just go with my gut and do the bypass??? -

Hands Peeling After Surgery
LaLaDee replied to MrsSnapBack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recall having dry skin after surgery. I think it's dehydration, lack of vitamins, and possibly just the effect of your body in survival mode with all the weight loss. I remember having to use heavier moisturisers on my face, but it eventually stopped. Drinking lots of water will probably help. -

I haven't experienced that, but my guess is that you might be dehydrated and your skin is drying up. Are you sipping, sipping, sipping all day long? -
How are my fellow December surgeries doing?
Slimming Down Steve replied to lys's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I like both coffee and tea. As far as tea goes, I prefer Oolong Da hong Pao tea. It's naturally has fruity notes and I still drink it either with no sugar substitute or with a tbsp of honey, it pairs great with honey. I have a pound of the loose leaves. Have a couple of cups usually around noonish. I asked our local Chinese restaurant what kind it was several times before the owner would tell me. It also makes a great sweet cold tea with Monk fruit/erithritol in it. -
has anyone tried lipolift for skin tightening? did it work well? what was your experience?

How are my fellow December surgeries doing?
Slimming Down Steve replied to lys's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My main priority is to keep the muscle I have, so it's all proteins, liquids, calcium citrate, and vitamins for right now. My stomach is flattening out without loose skin. Also the only thing that my labs showed low was vitamin D, so I added that to my meds as well. By the way so far I've eaten scrambled, fried, and hard boiled eggs. So hopefully you will be able to soon. My new RNY stomach is liking anything I'm giving it. I ate 3oz of air fried chicken breast with garlic, onion, rosemary, salt, pepper, cajon mix, and lemon pepper sprinkled on it last night. No gurgling and no distress, so I think my new tummy liked it. I just started taking 3 stool softeners yesterday, I have three in my pill dispenser for each day this week. Hopefully I'll blow out today. I just made coffee, going to drink 3 cups which equals 33oz so hopefully that will help me go poop. Hope your problems work there way out soon as well. -
Females over 40, how "fast' did you lose with RNY?
jubug09 replied to Panda333's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Definitely interested in this thread. My rny is next week and I've also wondered about how fast you lose. I started at 330 (highest was 376 years ago) three weeks ago. I'm at 310 now so 20 lbs down on liquid diet. I'm also 42 and about 5'3" tall. I worry about loose skin simply because I already have some. But I worry more about not ever being able to do things I want to do. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Try eating peeled apple slices @Beast(RNY). In some material I got from my surgeon, it said that apple skin (& orange & mandarins pith) is hard to digest & pass through our smaller tummies. It’s just trial & error to see which fruits you can tolerate. Hey @ms.sss I was talking to my team last week & I mentioned sugar & dumping They said it’s not an issue for sleevers which surprised me because of reading about experiences like yours & others. I thought I was just lucky I hadn’t reacted to fruit (or those Christmas treats I sampled). Now I’m very confused.

Yeah, that is weird. I mean, it is the same amount of skin you had to begin with. -

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
LaLaDee replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
@heycrystal2052 I’m doing something similar to you. The 16:8 intermittent fasting protocol. My eating window is also between 12 and 8. I only started on 1 January. I’m dealing with a lot of regain (my surgery was more than 2 years ago). I haven’t given myself a calories allowance, but I am tracking on MyFitnessPal so I do not know where I’m at roughly. I’m just trying to eat 2 healthy meals. The odd snack too if I’m hungry. I’ve lost about 4kg/9lbs but that’s likely to be water weight from Christmas indulgences. I agree that it feels a bit tricky. I suspect other people on this thread will have more helpful advice. I’m trying to plan and meal prep to limit my ability to mess up. I am also concerned because my skin has broken out - pimples everywhere. I’m not sure if it’s stress, a new moisturiser I got at Christmas or IF!! How is everyone else doing? -
No regrets here. I am almost 7 years out, and within 20 lbs of goal. I didn't want the lap band because I thought it would cause problems when I ride horses, and I didn't want the malabsorption/maldigestion of bypass (and the idea of loose parts hanging around in there creeped me out!) so I figured the sleeve was best for me. I did have problems with reflux, especially at first, so I tend to stay away from spicy food, acidic food, or tomato-based food. Even then, still would get reflux at night when in bed. UNTIL I discovered the wedge! Started out on a wedge pillow, then because I roll around a lot, I put my whole mattress on a wedge. Then when my mattress needed replacing, I got a mattress with an adjustable base, so I can elevate my upper body as much as I want. From the FIRST NIGHT with the wedge pillow, I have not had any reflux at night! It seems to have even helped with daytime reflux, although I'm not sure why. Just glad it's gone! If you don't want to deal with wedges, try putting the legs at the head of your bed up on blocks.

A Tale of Two Arm Lifts (rs & ms.sss)
ms.sss replied to ms.sss's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Ok, I changed my mind about using the silicone tape right now. I did a bit of reading (both online and the literature in the box of silicone sheets) and decided it's still a little early for me to put them on my incisions. I've still got sections that are scabbed over or freshly un-scabbed (very light pink skin that looks like it needs to heal a bit more) so am going to wait unitl I see my surgeon again at my in 2 wks, or when my scabs & pink skin are gone, whichever come first. On another note, after my shower, I decided to do my hair for like the first time since surgery, meaning I put product in it, blow dried it and used a flat iron (for the past 3+ weeks I've just been air drying and brushing to the side). And surprise, surprise, my arms felt loose and un-achy. So today's lesson is that I need to raise my arms more and not baby them like I've been doing so much lately and I will feel better 🙄 And on another, another note, I went for a 5.5km walk this morning and thought I would try to run the last kilometre. Wasn't the best run as I was wearing winter boots and they aren't very bendy, and I was being light-footed because it was icy (so it felt more like dancing than running, lol), but I was glad to be able to run even just a little and get my heart pumping. Also I really like running with the abdominal binder on, makes my core feel strong.... -
December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
🌱VeGan❤️HeArT🌱 replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As far as loose skin, I feel pretty lucky, mine is super minimal. I’m pretty sure with a little exercise I won’t have any. -
You must be feeling better physically and your clothes must be pretty loose, too. Any 50 pounds is enough for people to notice. Those are all Non Scale Victories!
