    I was bored so.....

Ok, BP has been rather boring, we used to have some rowdies on here ( where did they go!) (@FluffyChix, ahem!) I have been browsing endless plastic surgery sites, lurking all my friends's surgeries. So the gal pics are more prevalent and we are used to seeing each other nekkid for ps galleries, typical mommy makeovers, ba/bl, etc. And we are especially concerned about the mons lift or FUPA. While browsing photo galleries, without warning in full frontal pics oh look - men - seeking/getting needed surgery - quick scroll past the scrotums.... So I got to thinking, some of those dudes have some mighty low hanging fruit.... do they get 'lifts' or some kinda enhancement help there. LOL.... use your imagination.... Lo(w) and behold,I give you the scrotum scoop. HOME FEATURES Inside the World of Scrotal Lifts: Plastic Surgery for Men With Saggy Sacks AS TOLD TO MEL 2 YEARS AGO "In extreme cases — and this is generally in much older men — a man’s scrotum is stretched so much it can hit the water in the toilet when they’re sitting." Dr. Gary Alter, an assistant clinical professor in plastic surgery at UCLA with practices in Beverly Hills, Manhattan and Dubai, has been performing scrotoplasty, or scrotal lifts, for nearly 20 years. One of just a handful of surgeons who perform the procedure in the U.S., Alter estimates that he performs one scrotoplasty per month. That said, he promises that “if more men knew about the procedure, it would probably be a lot more.” … Many men — both young and old — have scrotums that are large and hang low, so they wish to have some of the skin excised. The skin or the scrotum size irritates them with underwear or sports. Plus, cosmetically, it doesn’t look good. In extreme cases — and this is generally in much older men — a man’s scrotum is stretched so much it can hit the water in the toilet when they’re sitting down on it. I’ve seen young men who are born with their scrotums hanging low, too, but thanks to gravity, it tends to be much more common as men age. When the causes for a low-hanging scrotum are congenital, a man may have something called a varicocele. That’s when there’s a bad valve draining the veins in the left ********. Or better put, it’s not draining blood from the ********, and instead, the blood builds up, which weighs down the ******** and stretches the scrotum. It also can happen in the right ********, but less commonly. When I do scrotoplasties on men with varicoceles, I want to make sure that the varicocele has been corrected first because I don’t want the scrotum to stretch again. So generally, men will have that fixed by a urologist prior to our appointment. Similarly, the scrotum can be large if a man has an excess of clear bodily fluid around the ********, called a hydrocele; the scrotum will shrink if you eliminate the fluid, but the skin still may have stretched. As a side note, a lot of these men have what’s called a penile-scrotal web that needs to be corrected. It can be a byproduct of having a low-hanging scrotum, or sometimes it’s caused by a circumcision that removes too much skin. It’s like a turkey neck between the underside of the penis and the scrotum. I’ve also seen a lot of men who just have a web, which is a problem because if it’s too large, you can’t put on a condom all the way, or you might have trouble during penetrative sex. That’s why a lot of times, with the reduction of the scrotum, I’ll do a removal of the web as well. FEATURES The surgery itself is outpatient. I do it under general anesthesia, and it usually takes about two hours. The procedure involves removing the skin and sometimes some of the subcutaneous tissue. I have the man in stirrups so I can shape the scrotum, because it’s not just about removing skin, it’s about removing skin and maintaining a natural contour. I put in sutures or staples before I make any incision so I know exactly what I can remove before I remove it. If I’m getting rid of the web at the same time, I give a shot into the penis that opens the arteries and closes the veins, thus causing an erection. This allows me to make sure I don’t take off too much skin. The number and placement of the incisions depends on the anatomy of the patient. It’s like a breast reduction in that way. It’s also important to try to determine the best location for the scar in order to hide it. Plus, the natural scrotum has different textures and colors in different areas, so you try to bring like with like. If possible, I’ll try to take a crescent shape off the bottom of the scrotum near the perineum, and hide the scar that way. Or I’ll place the incisions either underneath the scrotum or right down the middle on the scrotal and penile raphe, the line that goes down the middle of the scrotum and the penis. Sometimes I have to do both of these incisions. Other times I have to place the incision horizontally. The art of the surgery is picking the correct pattern that you’re going to use. The incisions are then stitched together at the end of the procedure. The surgery isn’t very uncomfortable, and my patients go home right afterward. The pain is minimal after the first few days. If there is discomfort, it’s mostly a general discomfort from the skin incision. If they’re in from out-of-town, they stick around for about three days and then they can leave. Generally, I tell them not to have intercourse for five or six weeks after surgery, and no sports for about a month. They can masturbate if it isn’t too traumatic, and they can go back to work a couple of days after the surgery. The stitches themselves dissolve within three to six weeks. I’m sure men are nervous about the procedure when they come to see me, but they’re usually happy that they’ve found someone who can help with their complaints. Most of them have gone to a urologist who says, “There’s nothing you can do,” or “You’re crazy.” But not me. That was my whole vision when I went into plastic surgery: To fix the problems that make men self-conscious, but are ignored by the medical community. — As told to Jessica Ogilvie

  3. ...So I went down the research rabbit hole RE: scar maintenance and learned about tattooing as and option for scar fading. Basically the tattoo artist would tat over the scars with ink that matches your skin tone. Though I suppose it would become more noticeable if/when you get a tan? ...interesting option, though...

    Thermage anyone?

My wrinkles on my face and neck are much less noticeable almost 3 years post-gastric bypass due to applying & re-applying sunscreen EVERYDAY, using Tretinoin, putting Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (bought at Costco) in my coffee every morning after my derm recommended it, and Fraxel laser resurfacing. All of these things help build and/or prevent loss of collagen, and improve fine lines, wrinkles, skin tone and laxity. I look so much younger now based on reactions from people who haven’t seen me in awhile. If you’re thinking of getting Thermage or laser treatments, please make sure to do so with a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to ensure your money is well spent and to minimize post-procedure issues/complications. Good luck with your anti-aging journey after WLS. 😀
  8. * Light Bulb Moment * : I think I've found a reason for the increasing number of areas that are feeling soreness when there wasn't before: Its the effing sutures. The areas where they start protruding through the skin are the areas where these new pains are coming from. I'm feeling these aches and pains in both my armpits now, as well as my left boob & nipple, and both my side boobs. ARRRRRGGGGG. On the bright side (if I HAD to see a bright side), I feel nothing along my TT incision, and I suspect this is because I feel very little (if anything) along the line due to numbness. I only have sensation around like half a cm above and below it, but not along it.
  9. I’m 4 months out and have averaged about 10 lbs a month. I too was super frustrated, however the scale continues to move. I’m down 50lbs which is the most weight I’ve ever been able to loose ever. I’m currently 189lbs. I’d love to get to 125 but if I get to 150 I’ll be happy. I didn’t get this surgery to become a super model, I did it to get healthy and I’m feeling much better already. It is frustrating thinking everyone’s loosing more than you, faster than you, etc. But believe me, it will come off. Just keep doing what you’re doing. PS I actually feel like I’m loosing more weight after the first few months. It seems like it picked up a bit for me. Maybe the same will happen to you. pps make sure you drink your water and are going to the bathroom. That helps flush the weight out too.

    Dehydrated?

If you even suspect it, get more water in. Your urine would be a darker color, you would be tired, you can pinch your skin.

    🎈 Pity Party🎈

Yep, the black is my bra and the nude is my arm compression garment. I sorta wish they were both MORE restrictive as I find them a little too loose for my liking. My mom tailored the arm garment for me to make the sleeves smaller, but the rest of it is still too big and results in me constantly pulling up the shoulders cuz they keep slipping off. I think I'm going to have to revise my de-swell goal date to July as well. I was hoping to be all bikini ready by April for vacay , but thinking that's gonna happen

    Are Plastics Pretty Much Inevitable?

I agree with working out and things post op or post goal as above it may take months of hard work to see a difference in the saggy skin but it's not impossible as @AZhiker said!!

    NSV for me!!

Looking at your stats, we aren't too dissimilar. You had a higher start weight than I, but our height and goal weight are damn close. I eventually got down to 198 before I started heavy lifting. Well, as heavy as this broken down body will allow. My original goal weight was 220, the weight when i met my wife. I blew past it no problem! The hard part came (and it always does) is the rebound weight and also the muscle mass weight gain. You might be conflicted when the scale goes back up. It is very important to have a good relationship with your surgeon or qualified dietitian that you feel you can trust. I don't say nutritionist because they are nothing more than smoothie recipe repositories in my experience. I have held steady at a 225 lb weight for 3 years. I have seen it fluctuate as much as 5 lbs depending on how bad I was over a weekend. Bad in my case turns out to be eating ham. Not lunchmeat ham, traditional easter/christmas bone in hams. I swell up so bad the skin splits around my fingernails! I only bring this up because while I weigh in every day at the gym (Monday thru Friday), but I only worry about my monthly average. I keep a log of my lifts, my eating, BM's, and weigh. I can usually deduce if I am gaining weight from over eating, water retention, or constipation. Didn't mean to be so long winded. I haven't really talked that much on here in a long while. Keep doing whatever you are doing now if it makes you happy and fuels your passion for exercise. Enjoy the honeymoon phase and do as much as possible to cement the routine in your mind. You look great, best of luck to you! *edit* Forgot to mention - this past Christmas break, I weighed in at 232 and almost shat myself right there. Upped my water intake to flush out the ham's sodium and I was back to 227 by weeks end. So don't freak out if the scale moves the other way once in a while. Just take the steps you know you need to.

    January 2020 Surgery Date

I went to the long awaited pre-op appointment today at Kaiser. I was there for 3.5 hours and I will have to go back on Monday to complete the disability papers. Appointment recap: I was weighed , 251.4 , BP 118/78 pulse 77. I was given a folder with the documents detailing my pre and post op dietary guidelines. 1 day liquid diet prior to surgery ( I put myself on the liquid diet to get the excess weight off gained from meds and etc.,I did it!!!) , 3 days clear liquids immediately post op, 14 days full liquid diet and I have to get my folder to properly explain the rest. I just remembered that 2/15/20 is my last day of the full liquid diet. I will go into the food more on another post. We went into vitamins and pain management, hydration, walking, miralax and prilosec. My hospital is providing an abdominal binder, which I thought was nice and saved me a few $$$. Went to give the lab an offering of my blood per usual , swung by admissions, spoke with the dietitian, the surgeon, I was asked to wear a light nail polish color if were to keep my nails, I was advised to wear something loose to the hospital and most people wear the same outfit home and choose slippers. Ohhhh, a hard one for me no chapstick!!!! I check in at 8:15 AM & surgery is at 10:19 AM on 1/31/20, with checkout being the next day on 2/1/20. I will have a private room and someone can stay there with me if I would like.

  18. I'm frustrated as well. It's 17 days since my surgery and I'm down 13 lbs, but 8.6 of that was in the first week. I KNOW this is marathon and am trying to tell myself: - I lost 42 lbs before surgery, so that initial drop of water weight, etc... already happened. - The last couple of months pre-surgery I wasn't losing even 2 lbs a week, and I am over that now - It's probably better to lose a little slowly from a skin perspective - My surgeon and team know what they are doing. I am following the plan they gave me Even with all the above, it can be a little disheartening to be this early in and already feel like a slow lower.
  19. First . The gas pain is worst right after surgery... but doesn't last long for many of us. The other things you listed may come and go during rapid weight loss... but there are ways to mostly prevent them. I haven't experienced hair loss. And endoscopy is really nothing... you are sedated so you dont feel or remember it. As for the mandatory weight loss... depends on doc and insurance requirements. I had to loose at least 1 pound a month. I was worried because of my low bmi... but I did fine. I transitioned to their diet more slowly than they would want most people. And the nutritionist gave me tips to comply without disqualifying myself. But sorry... I work in AZ so dont have your other answers. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Slimming Down Steve

Blood pressure crashed, I passed out walking to the kitchen.

I had some x-rays at my doctors office. Everything still looks fine with my back. I'm not worried about my weight or my mother. I had the surgery for me. I didn't want to loose a foot or leg due to diabetes 2, and to be around long enough for my wife. She said (kidding) that till the bills are paid off I can't die! My mother can go take a leap off of a high bridge with hardened concrete around her feet. I am in a good place about my life without her messing around with my wife or my emotions. I cut the strings to the puppet master and don't plan on being restrung up anytime soon.
  21. I'd like to have plastics, but I can't afford them, so I'm just going to live with my wrinkled saggy skin.
  22. Hi 🙂 To be honest, it was alot easier than I expected it to be. I just went to the doctors and explained I was unhappy with my weight and explained that I had been on various diets and exercises etc and I wanted to look into surgery. They referred me to the hospital, I had a consultation and bloods, seen an endocrinologist, a dietician and a nurse and then I was given a date for surgery and seen the surgeon again. The dietician gave me a list of what I can eat on the 2 weeks leading up to surgery and that's it. The whole process with appointments was about 6 months, but I delayed it last june when I got cold feet and asked them if I could wait until this year, and they said yes, they asked when would be suitable for me and i asked if i could go in April to fit around my university holidays, work and the childrens school, and they said yes. It seems hard to be able to get approved for the surgery in the US then and potentially cost alot? I suppose we are very lucky in the UK. I'm 211lbs now, I'm just worried about when I lose the weight and excess skin. Hoping if I keep up with the gym then I wont have too much🤔 Have you had surgery yet? How was yours? I guess I'm also worried about how it will affect my life and I work in theatres so I have seen when things can go wrong. I need to stop worrying and get it done lol x
  23. When I got near goal with 100 pound loss, I had pretty bad turkey neck, really saggy underarms, very droopy inner thighs, and a pretty saggy belly. With time, however, (6 months past that time), things have tightened up a lot, and I am 63 years old - not a young chickie with good collagen and elasticity. I was seriously thinking of arm and tummy work, but I cannot imagine it now. Like the above poster, my tummy looseness is very easy to hide and I look fabulous in my bicycle shorts!. My neck is not as saggy. Neither are the thighs or arms. The only hopeless cause are the boobs, and I can easily compensate with a bra. It's not like I'm a swimsuit model and have to show it all off. My advice is to give it a year after reaching goal. Don't rush into plastics. It's a big deal - serious surgery and expensive to boot. So make sure you really want and need to take that plunge. Big kudoos to those who have done it - they look great! But I suggest giving it time. You are going to have a period where you think your new body is horrible and ugly, with all the new sags and bags. You will want to jump into surgery and make it all better. But if you give yourself some time to adjust mentally, you will start to love and appreciate the new body you have been given, and all it is capable of doing for you. That is the time to decide about plastics - not when you are in the stage of feeling ugly and embarrassed.

Vitamins, gummies and pills. oh my!

Oh I love my hero nutritionals slice of life omega gummies with chia seed, since they are fish free. They taste good too. For now I get them from vitacost.com but the company told me they will be rebranded at the end of 2020. https://www.vitacost.com/hero-nutritionals-slice-of-life-omega-3-with-chia-seed-adult-gummy-vitamins-natural-cran-orange-60-gummies for my multivitamin I need one that’s free of added iodine and I prefer Garden of life my kind organic prenatal multi whole food gummies. (a lot of bariatric people take prenatal vitamins) I did get Garden of life raw one multivitamin capsules this month, I’m not sure I care for them. I guess Since I have some bloodwork due for a surgeon follow up I’ll find out how my levels are. But my throat has been having problems (likely not related to surgery) the gummies are easier in that regard. And I believe whole food based and chewable or liquid absorb better. For hair skin and nails I like natures way alive hair skin and nails with collagen (300mg) gummies. They also make a calcium but I got a tablet from target, I guess I’ll find out how effective it is comparatively. You are correct about vitamin k , I recommend K2 as Menaquinone MK-7. I buy these sublingual for my mom https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VXDXXM0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 You might want to add in coenzyme Q10 as it’s extremely beneficial. I also take digestive enzymes with meals. For anyone who takes probiotics don’t forget that healthy gut bacteria needs to be fed with prebiotic fiber (inulin) or prebiotic foods. Chicory root is the best source of prebiotics. Some other sources are Apple pectin, konjac root aka glucomannan (you can buy shiritaki noodles made of this) as well as flaxseed and others I can’t think of at the moment. Better than rice is a rice alternative and good source of prebiotics. Cooked right it tastes great. https://www.vitacost.com/better-than-rice-organic-konnyaku-flour-organic-oat-fiber-rice-gluten-free?ta=better+than+rice&t=better+than+rice
  25. not inevitable, but with the amount of weight you're likely to lose (I'm looking at your starting weight), you're likely to have loose skin. HOWEVER, a lot of us are able to hide it really well, so you're likely the only person who'll know it's there. I've had plastics because it was driving ME nuts, but no one else knew about it. It was easy to hide. I was just careful to wear elbow-length (or longer) sleeves and a slightly oversized, long-ish top that covered up all the abdominal skin (I don't have much excess skin on my thighs and legs - it was mostly in my gut). Here's a picture of me BEFORE I had plastics. I lost over 200 lbs. See any loose skin?
