How many post sleeve or bypass have the dreaded loose skin? Did you get it removed? Im sure its added weight still there and I imagine it could be a few pounds lost if removed. Im almost anticipating it to be bad for me. Im not sure if my insurance would pay or not. Pretty sure its considered cosmetic. I may pay out of pocket just to finally rid myself of it. Good thing is my Dr who does the sleeve also removes excess skin from weight loss but you have to maintain weight for 1 year before its even considered.

Yes same here I was supposed to have gastric sleeve but the hernia changed it to a gastric bypass. Here's a glimpse of what mine looked like, notice how the inner lining of my stomach is spread out to my oesophagus! had no idea it was the case till I saw the pictureπ³ -
I was bypass, but it's probably similar. I think I just had one IV, but I could be wrong. It seems like I was in the pre-op area for quite awhile. A few people came by to do things or ask me questions - some nurses, the anesthesiologist, the surgeon. Then they rolled me down to the OR. I remember seeing about six people in there - the surgeon, his resident, a surgical fellow, the anesthesiologist, her resident, and a med student. I think there were a couple of nurses in there as well. I was only in there briefly before I was out like a light. I woke up in the recovery room about 1.5 hours later, but I swear it seemed like it had only been around two minutes. I just slept off and on the rest of the day. I honestly don't even remember being rolled up to my room. I was pretty out of it until the next morning.

hopefully someone to respond. When sleevers revise, it tends to be to bypass or DS (duodenal switch) - but I think I've read about some people re-sleeving. Hopefully someone on here has done it and will respond to this.

I know weight loss varies with everyone but I was wondering what the average weight loss was by 6 months post op for a sleeve? Bypass can throw in their results too If you dont mind sharing what your results were at that milestone month.....thanks

Oh my! I didnβt know I had it either till the first sip of barium. The radiologist showed it to me. My only symptom had been shortness of breath. I canβt wait for it to be repaired. The RNY is used interchangeably with gastric bypass here. I was hoping for a gastric sleeve but the hernia changed that. Good luck to you, and thanks for replying so quickly. π -

And the Roux EN Y is referred to as 'gastric bypass' here in Australia I didn't understand what it meant at first so I had to search it on Google now I know lolππ Good luck Marlann! ππ€ I'll be following you as well and whereabouts are you fromπ -

Hi all, My surgery is booked on the 27th of April, I will be getting a gastric bypass & hiatus hernia repair on the same day. I'm getting more and more anxious and nervous as time gets closer, especially after watching some TikTok vids, I was a bit apprehensive but all good now lol feeling positive and excited! Wishing you all the best of luck with your surgeries πππ€π€π€ -
I had my sleeve done in April of 2012. Had decent success until 2018 when I gained ALL of the weight back. I am now 2 weeks away from getting a re-sleeve. It is with a differnt surgeon this time due to the fact my original surgeon won't do it. I am very nervous. I worry about the actual surgery. Mostly because I already have staples & such I expect it to be more difficult. I know there isn't too much on this forum about getting a re-sleeve but I was wondering if anyone has had any personal experiences with this. Wondering if it will be as successful as the 1st was oringally. NOTE: I have made the personal decision not to have the bypass as an alternative. My doctor says that it is the usual revisionj choice but I am even more scared of that surgery!

You're an inspiration to me. I weigh 390 and am getting the sleeve on May 3rd, and my goal is 200. I wasn't sure if there was anyone who had the sleeve that lost the kind of weight I'm wanting to, since most get the bypass when they have an extremely large amount to lose. You give me so much hope that what I want to do is possible with the sleeve!!! You look fantastic!!! -
I posted this in another thread, but I thought I would try here too, just in case I might get more/different responses. Here goes: So I'm hoping to hear from anyone with a high BMI that got the sleeve and had a lot of success. My current BMI is 63. My goal weight is 200 pounds, which means I need to lose 190 pounds. For various reasons I chose the sleeve over the bypass, and I know bypass patients lose more than sleeve patients do. BUT...I have no issues following the diet, and once I lose some weight I will start working out again (I did Keto and lost almost 100 pounds over 7 months, but then it just started creeping back up and no matter how much I restricted my carbs and worked out, I couldn't keep the weight down and I got frustrated and quit), but I worry that I won't be able to hit my goal even if I stick to the diet and work out. I have MS, so strengthening my muscles and losing the weight is a must to keep my mobility and reduce the pain. I also desperately want to get rid of my diabetes and high blood pressure. And I'm hoping losing the weight will help my asthma a little. BUT... is this possible with the sleeve? I'm so excited about the surgery, but is it really possible to lose that kind of weight with the sleeve? Has ANYONE on here done it, or even come close? This just has to work. I wasn't always overweight. I used to be a size 6, but when I had my son back in 98, my PCOS jump started and I put on close to 100 pounds and only lost maybe 25. No matter what i did, I couldn't lose it. Then I had my daughter and gained close to the same amount, and was never able to lose any of it. Then I did keto, succeeded for a while, then it failed and I gave up. And now here I am. Do I have any hope at all of hitting my goal weight?

My surgery is on the 3rd and my surgeon said sleeve is 1 night and bypass is 2 nights. No option for same day. I'm glad because there's no way I'd want to go home the same day. -

Hello All! I had a Roun Y Revision done on April 5. My original procedure was 23 years ago and over time I gained 100% of my weight back. Since my original was a full open surgery I had a hard time finding the right surgeon to revise me. A lot of research, switching ins plans, and a lot of graceβ¦.. I found the Right Doctor. I was in the hospital over night. Walking at midnight with my nurse. Completed over a mile of laps around the nurses station before I came home. Since being home I have only taken Tylenol 3x! I am sipping along my clear liquids and feel really good. I really like Bariatric Advantage shakes with water. I plan to lean in to the support available this time. -

They kept me for one night when I had my gastric bypass. They never offered me the opportunity to go home the same day. My insurance is good, so I wasn't worried about the cost of the overnight stay. -

when I had surgery seven years ago, sleeve patients generally stayed one night and bypass patients two nights. I think one night for both types is common now, unless there's an issue. I have heard of people going home the same day, but not very often. Honestly, I'd rather be in the hospital at least one night in case something weird happened. P.S. I had very little pain at all (just some nausea the first night), but I'm still glad I was at the hospital in case something happened (it didn't...but it was reassuring to know I was there in case something HAD happened) WLS is pretty major surgery... -

Good luck to all the upcoming bypasses and sleevers! Thinking of all of you and wishing you the best! π€β€οΈ -
They've said they have it loose to avoid complications. I had mine tight for 13 years and it didn't help me lose a single lb. In my opinion they're nonsense things. And to answer the OPs query, biased as I am, I'd do what I did a couple months ago: whip it out and revise to a bypass which has the added benefit of actually working.

Hi I'm new here too I'm having a gastric bypass on the 27th of April I'm excited and nervous at the same time I've already lost 10 kilos on my own since December last year but that's about all I could do on my own hoping is surgery will kickstart me and help me keep it off. Hi Merill! I am Debber. I just joined this blog today. I am scheduled to have gastric bypass on April 27th, as well. As the date approaches, I've gotten a little anxious, but looking forward to it, too. Here's to a successful surgery and journey for us!
-
Hi Debber,
Firstly congratulations you're on your upcoming surgery which is not far off! π₯³π₯³
Unfortunately my scheduled date has been postponed due to covid cases taking up all the beds in the hospital and I've been told either May 2nd or the 16th even those days aren't guaranteed at this time! it all depends on the availability of the beds.
Oh well I look at it from a glass half full side, I'm a believer that everything happens for a reason, better late than never! Good luck on your surgery and please keep me updated as I will be following youπ
All the bestπ€ππ
