Hi CSouth. Good luck tomorrow. I'm scheduled for 5/10 and feel just like you do. Nervous/not real excited. I've also gone back and forth on the idea but as one of my greatest mentors once told me, " if you have a good reason, you've done your research, analyzed the situation and made an educated decision, stick to it." That's what I'm doing especially bcs I already paid in cash. Chin up. Spirits high and keep us posted. Best of luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I accept your apology and thank you for the encouragement. I wish you all the luck in your journey also. I understand the getting in the mind set for after surgery but here is my issue with that also. From everything I have read you can still eat whatever you want after surgery in moderation so this whole argument about getting ready for after surgery to me is BS. I do plan on being very successful after my surgery, but I also know that we have to live a little. I did mention my trouble to the surgeon and he said that I would be fine. Jackh please except my apology for snapping at you. I am one week out from my surgery and I am ready to be successful the rest of they way. Again good luck to you. You know what your right I don't know what people's struggles are especially when they don't post them. What I do know from all the reading and listening to podcasts that I have is that unless we follow the instructions to the letter the chances of long term success aren't good. And if your issues with the pre op diet have to do with low sugar then why wouldn't your surgeon or nut be willing to modify it? But I also know thatr my head can make all kinds of excuses if I let it. We have to be brutally honest with ourselves if cheating is because of a legit issue or is just because we want the damned pizza, cheese, whatever. I am honestly sorry if I made any assumptions about your situation but honestly as I peruse these forums I'm seeing tons of belly aching over bs. If we don't at least try to have the right mindset and approach to this then what's the point? If we don't challenge some of the crap that goes on in our heads then who else will? Hang tough man, you can do this. I've never met you but I got faith in you. I'm not here to stir people up but to challenge them, us. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

"That's on your diet!"
KeepCalm replied to Cape Crooner's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Everyone gives different answers to this - I think it boils down to not wanting to deal with the ignorance of others because there are some people out there (ohkay quite a lot of people) that no matter what you say or how you explain it - will judge, look down on you, say you took the easy way, ect... And most just don't want to deal with the bs of it all - I give props to those that have the patiance to deal with those types of people - I do and I don't - my friends/family, I deal with their judgements - strangers, yeah I'm not up to doing that with people I really don't give two craps about. -

Hi Elle!!! 4/28 here! I'm doing good. Every day a little better. Getting my liquids in pain is minimal no more pain meds for a few days now. I'm still on Clear Liquids for the first 2 weeks so I am eager for something besides broth lol I'd love a Protein shake but managing without. dinner time in my house gets a little difficult bc I'm making dinner and everyone's plates and then sitting down to my bowl of broth. Lmao the smells make me crave but then it gets better. Plus that's temporary eventually I'll be able to eat with them. The scales been moving down fast. I've lost 16 pounds in 6 days. Kinda crazy. I've been getting some walks in and trying to get back to normal a bit. Ran some errands with my husband yesterday so I could walk some since its been rainy here in NJ. We did people! Tomorrow will Be 1 week! It's crazy! I'm so excited for what the future holds for us!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Post op and diabetes
MRSKLUCERO replied to bigmoe99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had type 2 for 20+ years. Preop I was taking 145u a day of lantus, 20-45u at each meal of novolog, 25mg a day of jardiance and once weekly injection of trulicity. My pre op A1c was 6.3, I am one month post op now. I am still taking the jardiance and novolog, my sugars have been running higher than I would like so I may need to reevaluate my meds. But at this point I'm goingglad to at least have cut out 2 of the 4 meds I was taking and hope that with more weight loss I will be able to decrease further, although it is very likely that I will always need some meds for my bs. -
I wanted to write about my experience with a lower bmi because while I am about 50 lbs overweight 182 5 ft 4 inches - I haven't seen too many posts that describe the surgery with this kind of weight loss. It took me a long time to decide to do this but I kept gaining and have a history of family members who get very very obese after their 40s. I am on the same track. Anyway I am getting sleeve may 13. flyint to texas bc I actually have a friend who is a surgeon that does this. I feel good about that and I am staying with another friend. I have 10 days and started the first day of a soft diet which is various soft Proteins, shakes, cottage cheese, eggs. I was basically good but ate too much. My goal today was just to get used to no carbs. I have had a splitting headache from giving up the caffiene but I am taking liquid tylenol and that helps a bit. I was nervous about this but feeling better about it now and committed to doing this. Ill write about my experience so someone else in the future can decide if this makes sense for them. Ever since I decided to do this surgery I felt like I had control over my body for the first time in a long time. I also had smoked which I stopped. And started drinking tons of Water. Never could do that before. So the surgery has instigated a number of great behaviors. all good. And this forum is key because people are so supportive. I really appreciate it.

Scared out of my mind
leahhindi replied to haleymarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@haleymarie - when I read your post I got such a laugh! I, too, am scheduled for this Monday, May 9th and I just logged on because I'm scared shitless and was just going to post, "HELP! I'M SCARED SHITLESS!" -- great minds think alike. Do you have/How are you doing on your pre-op diet? I am on a 2 week liquid diet and I am exhausted all day long bc I am waking up in the middle of the night with headaches and hunger pangs :-( I know there is an end in sight and I have read repeatedly that these days leading up to surgery as well as the two days after are the worst and then it will get much easier. Fingers crossed! Good luck to you! -
What are the issues? What's wrong with the new you? Please be objective bc others might soon to through this as well. I'm fact it's one of the Cons

Tips for caring for kids after surgery?
Christinamo7 replied to Samiam1217's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
my only close experience was a middle child was born via c section and I had other littles at home. Granted the csection was much harder than the sleeve, but somethings apply. prepare as much ahead as possible. meals, preportioned that can just be fed to them, or warmed and fed to them. you are not going to want to handle their food much in the first two weeks when you are on liquids. Do as much of that shopping and prep as possible. create 2 or 3 nesting spots in your home, comfy places where the little one will be safe to play and you have all you need for diaper changes and such and if you get drowsy you can drift off for a few minutes. have cups with lids or straws for you - so baby doesn't tip over your beverage that you're sipping on. We momma's are a tough lot, you can do this! -

I wasn't aware that we are using slurs like "retard" around here. Frankly, I find this very offensive. I normally would not respond to such ignorance, but today I am fed up with this kind of insensitivity. Please, please, I hope we all consider more carefully the words we choose to use in these forums. Quote edited by LipstickLady. Seeing the slur was making my blood boil. -

I have a fatty liver, high cholesterol, and pre diabetic. My BMI is 42. Please pray that I get my big fat approval and I can get on with my new life of living instead of just existing! Unjury vs Genepro?
doppelganger replied to Freckles70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Genepro and my nutritionist has signed off on it having had other patients use it and their blood work is fine. There are explanations as to how they shrink the protein molecule using electrophoresis etc. All sciencey stuff, without it I would not even come close to my required protein. As for the claim that it is tasteless, that's BS! it's not too bad and definitely not as strong as Unjury, but you can tell it's in there. I mix one scoop with 1.5oz of cream of wheat, oatmeal or get a bigger bang for you buck mixing it with yogurt. As I'm sure you know, once you're post op you will not be able to drink or eat large quantities so whatever you can comfortably hold is going to be affected by how much protein powder you have to mix in. Maybe your nutritionist has some ideas or opinions one way or another about Genepro. -
One more thing I was going to add is you have to be really consistent with this new and what you eat. I wait at least an hour to eat or drink (other than water). My endocrinologist also said not to have Calcium in the morning (within 4 hours of med) however that doesn't work for me so he said just to be consistent. If I am going to have milk in coffee or a shake with milk, etc just be sure to do it every day or if every other day to do it every other day. Of course we cannot always do or eat the exact same thing but his point is to be as consistent as possible so he knows how to change the med. If he adjusts the dose and then I say suddenly stop all dairy, it can affect the dose so say he changes it again in 8 weeks and then I suddenly start having milk every morning and HR checks it again in 8 weeks and has to change it again bit can't figure out why. I have watched my dad struggle with this for so long. His idiot Dr checks his at 4 weeks after a dose change and then doesn't check again for a year. My dad takes the generic version and has never been instructed to take on an empty stomach. In fact, his Dr has him take one in the morning and one at bedtime. And my dad will sometimes take it with other meds and V8. He is retired but sometimes does consultant work. When he isn't working, he eats maybe an hour after taking it. If he is working, he doesn't eat anything until lunchtime. His Dr even increased his dose to help him lose weight specifically which then led to AFib and a whole other world if problems. I hate this Dr but my dad won't listen to me. I give up. I have tried but I can tell when he is hyper bcs he is so damn mean and irritable. I have to gently ask him some of the other symptoms (like difficulty sleeping, heart racing, etc) and then suggest HR get his thyroid checked. And then his doctor overadjusts and the maddening process with being hypothyroid starts all over. All to say - be your own advocate. You know how you feel. If you cannot get a Dr to listen to you, change drs. I am on my 3rd endo and I really like him. The first one killed my thyroid, gave me a starting dose, tested at 6 weeks and said "do labs in a year and I will have the nurse call you with results". No interest at all in how I am feeling or symptoms or anything. Um no.... Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App

Last post on alcohol and Weight loss surgery Patients
Stevehud posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So before i walk out the door, as this place is simply no longer worth the time, Ill focus on my other areas to help those who need and want it, here is just a few articles for those who call me a liar. Oh and to those who do call me a liar, just because you do something , that doesnt make it right. https://www.facs.org/media/press%20releases/jacs/gastricbypass0311 http://www.obesitycoverage.com/before-after/alcohol-after-weight-loss-surgery/ https://asmbs.org/patients/life-after-bariatric-surgery for RNY https://www.thefix.com/content/gastric-surgery-alcohol-abuse-switching-addictions8421 For bypass https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/03/110310121029.htm there are literally hundreds more. But dont bother looking because I lie evidently because someone once took a drink and said it didnt hit them harder. So by their view, if one person smokes and doesnt get cancer then cigarettes dont cause cancer. Okay then. Have a good life BP people. I will no longer deal with the BS. If you want someone to kiss your ass and tell you you're doing wonderfully as you fail, enjoy it here. its a mutual maturbation society lately. People obsessed with power and their flunkies. Im able to walk away and enjoy this amazing thin life. Trust me when i say this most assuredly will be the last post. Alex has made a great place, unfortunately it eventually gets taken over by those who want nothing more than to be "bitches" and yes thats a quote from them directly. I once left here for 6 months then came back to se if things had changed and unfortunately we have people who now think they know everything about the journey even though they have only just barely started their own and have little compunction against derailing someone else's weight loss journey so they can enable their own destructive behaviors. For those that truly care i urge you to get involved in Surgery help groups and the national obesity awareness campaigns. Or just write your own blog and show the world how this can work. Unlike others i don't hide behind a screen name, heck if you follow my links you'll find my full name, address and even phone number on my blog I will answer any questions directly anyone may have. My pictures are always posted I dont believe in hiding or lying and I do believe in being blunt. Failure is not an option for me as I want to live and hare my life with my wife for as long as possible, it took me 44 years to wake up and see what fat does to you and to me. And you cannot hide being fat, even though we all have tried, I will continue to work with several support groups and with a Protein manufacturer directly as an ambassador. Fort hose who dont like my blunt upfront approach, great, thats your right, what you dont have the right to do is to tell others to ignore their surgeons, to ignore their nutritionists, and to impose your own weight loss cheating and failings on them. If you want to contribute to minimal weight loss and fail, thats your right, dont be a total dick and try to take down others with you. 'My last words, are simple. I will not fail at this, I thank those who helped me along this journey so far, and from the bottom of my heart and soul, I truly wish all of you do not fail as well. see ya. -

Old habits regarding snacking have crept back in. I've just looked into attending a support group. I've never been a big drinker but I drink more Water than I ever have. My exercise is minimal. My doctor hasn't given much other than the normal eat certain foods and such speech. I don't have a Protein target. My doctors did everything with my surgery really fast so I didn't get much prep time nor did I get to see a nutritionist before my surgery like I was supposed to. I've been trying to see one for 4 months but they denied me bc I've already had the surgery. I'm just so nervous I'm going to gain the weight back if I let bad habits return. Thank you for the reply! I was so worried when I saw the scale - I am so so good abt Protein and Water on normal days I don't miss a beat but I was camping in a tent on a conservation & I did have some chicken breast to grill but only the first couple days bc it won't last in a cooler - so I was doing protein shakes and tuna and I am kicking myself right now bc I don't want to set myself back .... I am 4weeks post op tomorrow and I just went a week long vacation where I struggled with my Vitamin regimen and did not eat enough - but my Water was very very high and I exercised extensively I actually was able to do a 6 mile hike (cleared by my surgeon) I came home and I gained 3lbs and my body fat percentage went UP 1%. I am ready to cry. I know how important Protein is my goal is 100 grams a day and I hit 70 for most of the week bc of food options I was relying on Protein shakes and tuna (plain) a lot. I averaged 100 oz of water daily and exercised daily for 30 min to an hr. Has anyone experienced this? I assumed I might have gained muscle until I saw the body fat % & my calorie intake was around 5-600 a day. Please help. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

So to all on here. After your honeymoon period ends. Youll look back at this time longingly. When you hit maintenance or just further along and the weight loss stops and its time to incorporate more food and yet keep your weight down, you will understand a little better what im trying to say here folks. If you think its this easy further down the road you dont understand why a large percentage of bariatric patients fail.. If you think im being mean or sarcastic, then I have succeeded, because this isnt a joke. this isnt weight watchers where you can just stop and start up again anytime. This is for your life ladies and gentlemen and if you dont want to use this to beat obesity., then You're right you shouldn't listen, dont throw out your fat clothes, you may just need them again. You want BS hand holding and coddling? sorry, not when it comes to stupid calories. You want help, use this to beat the bastard that is obesity.

Alright! I had my endoscopy done. All clear. Completed sleep study, had my 2nd of 6 weigh-ins. Down 7 pounds. Psych Evaluation in May. My bs has been in a more acceptable range. I am chugging along. I have been drinking Protein shakes most days and found a few that I like. New goal is to replace one meal a day everyday with a shake. I am chugging along. Hope everyone has a blessed day.
