Gastric bypass or sleeve
JessLess replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You don't see sleeve patients who don't have GERD and don't want revisions because why would we talk about that? Congratulations on your successful surgery. Since you are calling other people out on "lies" when they disagree with you, please cite a credible source that the sleeve gives you a 50% chance of GERD getting worse. Most good doctors would not give someone a sleeve if they HAD GERD knowing what we now know. -
Gastric bypass or sleeve
New&Improved replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lies.. There's maybe 5% chance of those issues where sleeve is like 50% chance of either getting gerd or making gerd worse. Everyday I see ppl complaining about gerd and needing revisions.. I'm 4 weeks post op from RNY with not one single issue -
United Healthcare choice plus 6 month diet requirements
Puffy-no-more replied to Puffy-no-more's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@Chris NH thank you! I did not realize that they had a specific customer service team for this. I did meet with my surgeon’s office and they did confirm that they just revised the requirements and that it is no longer 6 months but that they would not give her a specific amount of time. She said basically for me to do 2 months followed by my physician and then they will send in the prior auth and see what they say. But I’m going to call back tomorrow and see if I can get the bariatric team and try to get a specific answer. thank you again for your help! -
Lap band revision- how long did you wait?
HBLOSINIT replied to Byrd0315's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my Band removed on 5/31. Dr. wouldn’t even talk Gastric Bypass until after 3 months. Then two weeks after my first appointment to talk about revision , I had my first really awful Gallstone attack. I ended up having it removed on 10/18. So now I’m going to get all my pre-submission appts. I’ve met with the Dietician, have Sleep Study scheduled for 12/16. Waiting to hear on Psych visit. Once all of those are done, he’ll review and the submit to insurance. I have no clue how long it takes to be approved. I’ve got to start making headway on weight loss. He never gave me a % to lose. -
I was watching a video by a weight loss surgeon from Perth, Western Australia. I found a point he made quite interesting. After doing a review of the number of revisions he had done on his patients, he thought that he was using a too large a bougie size for them, now he goes smaller and the revisions have reduced substantially.

Lap band revision- how long did you wait?

I’m just wondering if they will maybe take the band out separately since it is causing problems and then have me wait for the revision -
Lap band revision- how long did you wait?
lvidacovich replied to Byrd0315's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
For a revision to sleeve or bypass? I don't see why you wouldn't have to go the whole 6 month waiting period that most insurance companies have unless you're self-pay. Even then most GOOD WLS clinics have a protocol you must go through that can take a while. -

I’m a band to sleeve revision now looking at DS loop. I’m just getting started with the tests, insurance, etc. How are you doing so far? -
I must not have hit submit on Thursday on the post above. I had my revision done robotically onFriday. I also had two IV.

What does this mean? You revised from a sleeve with another sleeve?

I'm just shy two weeks out, and this is honestly the only thing keeping me from loosing it. I've had my pureed/soft foods grocery list made up for at least a week and I frequently add to and revise it. It's the only way to convince myself to drink yet *another* protein shake.

One week after the Sleeve- looking for friends
lisaasil9 replied to Metamorphosing's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I had my revision from band to sleeve 11/13. I also woke up full of regret and pain. My husband went back to work today and it’s just me and the toddler today...hope we survive 😂. I’ve only lost 10lbs so far so I’m a bit discouraged. I was hoping to be at 12-23 lbs down today. I am having a hard time getting protein in but liquids are going much better. -
Hi ! I can feel your pain, keenly lol. I also gave up coffee for my revision surgery and it was also cold turkey. Glad you're in a better place! You'll do fantastic. 💙CONGRATULATIONS💙

I was wondering if any who has the lap band has pain at the port site? I'm the process of having a revision with the gastric bypass because I plateaued about 7years ago and there a lot of issues with it like acid reflux, getting food stuck and then vomiting and having port pain too. I had the band since 2009 . Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi everyone, I am scheduled for a sleeve revision to sleeve on December 2, 2019. I am 46 years old and have been significantly overweight since I was 20 years when I was pregnant with my daughter. I called this thread 'Weight loss 2.0' because my previous gastric sleeve was December 3, 2013. Looking back, I believed the surgery was the magic fix to all of my problems. At first I had considerable success and dropped 100-120 lbs. Then, life happened - well bad things in life happened. I survived two violent attacks, the first in 2014 which left me with physical challenges, and then in 2015, after a sexual assault, I attempted suicide twice. It took me two years to get to a place of mental stability, but by then I regained my weight, plus more. In 2017, I began discussing with my doctor the prospects of having a revision surgery or bypass. For health reasons, the bypass is not an option. I discussed the options and decided I would not get back on the surgery table until I knew I was truly ready for change. What I have learned though, is that there will never be a moment when I will be truly ready, but it is about making a decision to change my life and working hard to do so. I am very good at self-sabotage and while awaiting my final doctor's visit to schedule surgery, I went over in my head all of the reasons I should and should not have the surgery again. After all, my first sleeve in 2013 was a failure and I stretched my sleeve to 2.5 times its size at surgery. There is a million little things that added up to me regaining weight, but I could not stop wondering if I had the fortitude to stick to it this time. All of the questions and doubts went away when I fell out of my shower two weeks ago yesterday. My spine is fused from C2-T1 and I handed on my back with my head and shoulders against the sink cabinet and the shower curtain rod jammed against the bathroom door. Short of the fire department tearing the door down, I had to find a way off the floor. It was early in the morning and my pride/embarrassment was too much to ask for help. Eventually I painfully got up off the floor. In that moment, I felt there is no reason at 46 years old I should not be able to get off the floor. I went to the emergency room to make sure I did not suffer any real damage and then decided to schedule my final appointment and pick a surgery date. I am teetering through excited and terrified because I have been down this road before. In my gut I know it will be different because I am in a different place and have already made changes to start my journey. To commemorate the start of my pre-op diet, I gave up coffee, sugar, snacks, all at once. For some reason last week, I kept eating things I figured I would never be able to eat again and then went cold turkey starting Monday morning. The lack of coffee and sugar alone makes me feel like crap all the time, but I am keep working at it and already lost 3.5 lbs this week. I had a protein bar today that somehow tasted like a mixture of cardboard and paper mache paste dipped in cocoa powder, which was some sort of scientific miracle that allowed it to be stamped as a food product. But it had 20 g of protein and 3 g of sugar. (definitely will not try that one again). For any other coffee addicts out there, I found that hot tea with dry non-dairy creamer (no sugar) is enough to trick my brain into thinking I had my usual coffee drip. The good news I no longer feel like I am losing my mind. The sugar substitutes are just not my thing. Fortunately, I love water and the many trips to the second floor bathroom have been a kick-start to my exercise regime - that is after many years of couch surfing. I found a 64oz water bottle that has times on one side and inspiration on the other, but I feel like I will start floating soon. I truly never realized how dehydrated I was, probably from the excessive amounts of coffee every day. I am less than 2 weeks away from surgery now and I am grateful that I have a sense of hopefulness, mixed with the reality of knowing that after surgery is when the hard work starts. A part of me is grieving too because I need to give up this life-long terrible relationship with food to live a fuller life. Thanks for reading and happy to be here to share my story. I look forward to learning more about other people here. Mya

Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
Losingit2018 replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks for sharing that info. I am set to revise from sleeve to bypass on Friday. I also wish that I had started with bypass. I swore that I would never revise. I do have gerd and hiatal hernia. Plus I only lost about half of excess weight with sleeve. Still the episodes of reflux have not been all that frequent. Here I am the day before surgery. Still wanting to back out. -
Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
mlbdl replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Revised sleeve to bypass last week due to GERD. Sleeve w/hiatal hernia repair 6/2016. 2nd hernia repair 10/17. 3rd hernia repair w/bypass, although originally the surgeon said he wasn’t going to fix it this time. I guess it was so big that he had to. I revised because I was aspirating acid into my lungs. I wish I had pushed for the bypass for the original surgery. I had asked for it because I already had GERD. I was told that I probably had a hernia, he’d fix it, and I’d be fine. Yeah... This recovery is harder from a pain perspective. The incisions are larger. It hurts to cough, sneeze, laugh, sit up, etc. I don’t remember this happening the last time. The surgeon said that he “did more damage” this time cutting me open. 😳 I do feel better every day but it it is different from last time. I also find that my appetite is the same as before the surgery. Last time I didn’t even want to look at food. However, I get nauseous when I eat so I am dropping weight, which I’m please with. I don’t mind losing about 10-15#, but I’m going to have to be careful not to get underweight (now that’s a first for me!). Good luck with whatever you decide. -
Third Time Surgery the Charm?
thirdtimecharmer posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a lapband in 2012 that did almost nothing and finally slipped in 2015 where it was revised to a sleeve. I lost a tiny bit then started steadily regaining within a year. It turns out that my sleeve surgeon left my sleeve very large. My final and third surgery will obviously be my last, and I am going to be serious and dedicated. I had my sleeve redone plus the SADI-S procedure at 166lbs (5’1”) this morning with Dr. Wihelmy at Mexicali Bariatric. I am in pain but already standing and walking around. Please feel free to ask me any questions. I intend to become an active forum member to hold myself accountable and make some motivational buddies! -
My journey: The Pain of Starting Over
SorryNameTaken replied to LadyVS's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had a band to bypass revision on October 24. It took them a while to get my band out too with all the scar tissue and mine ended up being slipped even though they didn't think i t was going to be. I am so sorry you are dealing with so much pain, I didn't have any real significant pain. But I will tell you, being band-free is SO nice, all the pain should be worth it! Congrats on your revision! -
Hi All I'm having my sleeve revision surgery in two weeks and I'm nervous. Just wondering if anyone has had a revision and would love to hear how it's working for you. How long was the recovery the second time around?
