    Dr. Doesn’t require protein?b

Hi. I couldn’t imagine any bariatric surgeon not requiring their patient to get protein in post op. It is very important for healing. The cardinal rule for bariatric patients post op and for life is “protein first” i had sleeve in 2018 and revision to bypass last Friday. Both surgeons required 60grams of protein post op. Good luck with your research and hope that helped.

    Lap Band Removal

I’m currently starting the process to revise mine to bypass but in waiting room now for tests to see if slipped so may need removed as separate surgery. What is recovery from removal surgery? I’ve had mine since 2009 and feel similarly to all of you. I’m really ready to get this removed!
  3. That is a tricky question. Some dr. will do the removal and revision at the same time..... but it all depends on what he finds when they open you up. Some times the scaring it too bad to do all at once. Some make you wait 3-6 months. Removal was a piece of cake. I had to have mine removed march 23, 2017. I was at 143lbs and had been there for 7+ years. So when they removed it, he would not do a revision because insurance didn't cover the removal and for sure would not cover a revision. Plus.... I didn't weigh enough. I'm 5'2". I searched tons of places and got the same response. I was about to head to Mexico for revision when i happen to find a dr. right here 10 mins from my work....... No, the insurance still didn't cover it and i was now at 173.5lbs and 31 BMI. But because i was a "revision" (2.5+ years later) and i was cash pay ($14k)... the sleeve was done 8/28/19. He said when he opened me up.... my stomach looked great. Very very little scarring. I did, however, have a hiatal hernia i didn't know about. Since i have lost 31.5lbs... and i'm sitting at 142 which is 1lbs less then when i had the band removed. The SX was the easiest i ever had. Zero pain and was back to work on Monday.

    🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

I haven't been participating a lot lately but I did read some beautiful thanksgiving stories that made me want to cry. The one about the grandpa with schizophrenia really touched me. Today's question is what food am I most grateful for today. Well all of them because I am about to embark on a pre op diet. My doc allows meat and veg in the diet but I am going to try to stick to protein shakes. I am having revision surgery 12/4.

    Crazy personal question

when i first started my journey back in 2009 with the band. I was 232lbs with 44G/H boobs. Lost 89lbs and went to a 34H. My boobs stayed exactly the same, my band changed 10". Lost the band in 2017, had gone up to a 36H..... fast forward, revised to sleeve 8/28/19.....back to the 34H. Yes the sag a little, but the nips are still looking forward and not at my toes.

    Food Before and After Photos

Actually, Fluffy was concerned about your volume. What volume/meal is your doctor advising? I know I was still only eating a couple of tablespoons of soft foods at a month out. (I had a sleeve at that point, revised to bypass later)

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

You don't see sleeve patients who don't have GERD and don't want revisions because why would we talk about that? Congratulations on your successful surgery. Since you are calling other people out on "lies" when they disagree with you, please cite a credible source that the sleeve gives you a 50% chance of GERD getting worse. Most good doctors would not give someone a sleeve if they HAD GERD knowing what we now know.

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

Lies.. There's maybe 5% chance of those issues where sleeve is like 50% chance of either getting gerd or making gerd worse. Everyday I see ppl complaining about gerd and needing revisions.. I'm 4 weeks post op from RNY with not one single issue
  9. @Chris NH thank you! I did not realize that they had a specific customer service team for this. I did meet with my surgeon’s office and they did confirm that they just revised the requirements and that it is no longer 6 months but that they would not give her a specific amount of time. She said basically for me to do 2 months followed by my physician and then they will send in the prior auth and see what they say. But I’m going to call back tomorrow and see if I can get the bariatric team and try to get a specific answer. thank you again for your help!
  10. I had my Band removed on 5/31. Dr. wouldn’t even talk Gastric Bypass until after 3 months. Then two weeks after my first appointment to talk about revision , I had my first really awful Gallstone attack. I ended up having it removed on 10/18. So now I’m going to get all my pre-submission appts. I’ve met with the Dietician, have Sleep Study scheduled for 12/16. Waiting to hear on Psych visit. Once all of those are done, he’ll review and the submit to insurance. I have no clue how long it takes to be approved. I’ve got to start making headway on weight loss. He never gave me a % to lose.

    Sleeve failure??

I was watching a video by a weight loss surgeon from Perth, Western Australia. I found a point he made quite interesting. After doing a review of the number of revisions he had done on his patients, he thought that he was using a too large a bougie size for them, now he goes smaller and the revisions have reduced substantially.

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

Chiming in as another that got gerd and hiatal hernia from sleeve. I just had my revision to bypass on Friday. I wish that I had listened to gut instinct and went bypass from the start.
  13. I’m just wondering if they will maybe take the band out separately since it is causing problems and then have me wait for the revision
  14. For a revision to sleeve or bypass? I don't see why you wouldn't have to go the whole 6 month waiting period that most insurance companies have unless you're self-pay. Even then most GOOD WLS clinics have a protocol you must go through that can take a while.
  15. I’m having significant issues with the band and am wondering if I will have yo wait 4 months for the revision or if they are likely to do it sooner since I am having problems?

What does this mean? You revised from a sleeve with another sleeve?

    Post-op 5 days

I'm just shy two weeks out, and this is honestly the only thing keeping me from loosing it. I've had my pureed/soft foods grocery list made up for at least a week and I frequently add to and revise it. It's the only way to convince myself to drink yet *another* protein shake.

Loop Duodenal Switch vs Duodenal Switch SADI-S

Hi, For Vsg revision to SADI on Dec 6. Anybody want to share their experiences? Bathroom issues?
  22. Hi! I had my revision from band to sleeve 11/13. I also woke up full of regret and pain. My husband went back to work today and it’s just me and the toddler today...hope we survive 😂. I’ve only lost 10lbs so far so I’m a bit discouraged. I was hoping to be at 12-23 lbs down today. I am having a hard time getting protein in but liquids are going much better.

  25. Hi everyone, I am scheduled for a sleeve revision to sleeve on December 2, 2019. I am 46 years old and have been significantly overweight since I was 20 years when I was pregnant with my daughter. I called this thread 'Weight loss 2.0' because my previous gastric sleeve was December 3, 2013. Looking back, I believed the surgery was the magic fix to all of my problems. At first I had considerable success and dropped 100-120 lbs. Then, life happened - well bad things in life happened. I survived two violent attacks, the first in 2014 which left me with physical challenges, and then in 2015, after a sexual assault, I attempted suicide twice. It took me two years to get to a place of mental stability, but by then I regained my weight, plus more. In 2017, I began discussing with my doctor the prospects of having a revision surgery or bypass. For health reasons, the bypass is not an option. I discussed the options and decided I would not get back on the surgery table until I knew I was truly ready for change. What I have learned though, is that there will never be a moment when I will be truly ready, but it is about making a decision to change my life and working hard to do so. I am very good at self-sabotage and while awaiting my final doctor's visit to schedule surgery, I went over in my head all of the reasons I should and should not have the surgery again. After all, my first sleeve in 2013 was a failure and I stretched my sleeve to 2.5 times its size at surgery. There is a million little things that added up to me regaining weight, but I could not stop wondering if I had the fortitude to stick to it this time. All of the questions and doubts went away when I fell out of my shower two weeks ago yesterday. My spine is fused from C2-T1 and I handed on my back with my head and shoulders against the sink cabinet and the shower curtain rod jammed against the bathroom door. Short of the fire department tearing the door down, I had to find a way off the floor. It was early in the morning and my pride/embarrassment was too much to ask for help. Eventually I painfully got up off the floor. In that moment, I felt there is no reason at 46 years old I should not be able to get off the floor. I went to the emergency room to make sure I did not suffer any real damage and then decided to schedule my final appointment and pick a surgery date. I am teetering through excited and terrified because I have been down this road before. In my gut I know it will be different because I am in a different place and have already made changes to start my journey. To commemorate the start of my pre-op diet, I gave up coffee, sugar, snacks, all at once. For some reason last week, I kept eating things I figured I would never be able to eat again and then went cold turkey starting Monday morning. The lack of coffee and sugar alone makes me feel like crap all the time, but I am keep working at it and already lost 3.5 lbs this week. I had a protein bar today that somehow tasted like a mixture of cardboard and paper mache paste dipped in cocoa powder, which was some sort of scientific miracle that allowed it to be stamped as a food product. But it had 20 g of protein and 3 g of sugar. (definitely will not try that one again). For any other coffee addicts out there, I found that hot tea with dry non-dairy creamer (no sugar) is enough to trick my brain into thinking I had my usual coffee drip. The good news I no longer feel like I am losing my mind. The sugar substitutes are just not my thing. Fortunately, I love water and the many trips to the second floor bathroom have been a kick-start to my exercise regime - that is after many years of couch surfing. I found a 64oz water bottle that has times on one side and inspiration on the other, but I feel like I will start floating soon. I truly never realized how dehydrated I was, probably from the excessive amounts of coffee every day. I am less than 2 weeks away from surgery now and I am grateful that I have a sense of hopefulness, mixed with the reality of knowing that after surgery is when the hard work starts. A part of me is grieving too because I need to give up this life-long terrible relationship with food to live a fuller life. Thanks for reading and happy to be here to share my story. I look forward to learning more about other people here. Mya
