100lb Mark SLOWLY Approaching
JessLess replied to Miss Liss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My stretch goal is to lose 100 lbs. I'm a year and six months out. I've been the same weight for a while now. If I don't gain and can extend myself more at the gym to make what I have look a bit better, I'll be thrilled. No reason to get hung up on a particular number. I would look at all the gains you've made with your health, wearing smaller sizes, or other NSVs. -
January 2020 Surgery Folks
TattooedSeaStar replied to TattooedSeaStar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey y’all!! MIA all week again- it’s all I can do during the work week to come home, do a load of laundry and cook dinner for my 9 & 10 yo. Whew Mama is TIRED! I wanted to give y’all a little update on my progress- I can’t get on my iPad for some reason so I can’t change my ticker but I’m down to 232.2- woot! That’s 43.2# so far! This week was slower but I’m eating and drinking more- still loosing about half a lb a day so that’s good. A NSV is that I went to the Goodwill on Monday ( $.99 cent day at my GW) and bought a bunch of size 18 khaki pants- typical art teacher attire- and THEY ZIPPED THIS MORNING! I was a size 24 Jan 2!! Hekka Yeah! Finally I had a GNO last night- we went to a local pub and then to see Mama Mia our on by our local theater club. I didn’t drink but I ordered their naked mugs (real chicken breast cup into cubes). We were in the nosebleeds- the theater is super old so during segregation it was the “black section” and the seats are TINY dingy and HOT! But I fit!!!!!! I’m attaching a picture of me in my SIZE LARGE dress that I wore (not XXL like 2 months ago!!!) Also attached is a comparison pic- Jan 2 to last night. Total difference!! -
October 2019 sleevers
PollyEster replied to Kimberly3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Oct 15, 2019. I lost 50 lbs in the 6 months leading up to surgery, and weighed 242 on surgery day. This morning I weighed 176 lbs: 115 lbs lighter than I was at this time last year 🤩, and down 66lbs since surgery four months ago 😍. My BMI has gone from 55 to 32, and I'm physically able - and have enough energy - to do everything I want, including being active 7 days a week with hill hiking, race walking, distance cycling, squash, cardio, weights, sea kayaking, downhill skiing, etc. Currently I’m training for a triathlon (5km race walk, 400m swim, 20km cycle) in August, and will be walking the Camino de Santiago, a distance of 800km (500 miles) for 35 days in June. Though the surgeon set a goal for me based on the fact that I always weighed somewhere between 117lbs - 125lbs up until I was in my mid-30's, I don’t have any real expectations about how much I'll lose overall, nor do I have any specific timeframe in mind. I don't compare my loss to anyone else's since everyone's journey is different. Instead, what works best for me is to concentrate on being strong and fit and healthy, enjoying a whole foods plant-based diet, taking good care of my mind as well as my body, keeping a positive attitude, and looking for NSV's for validation and encouragement rather than at numbers on the scale. Happy sleevedom to all! -
I'm tall and carry most of my weight in my legs. I'm ecstatic about this NSV but will say the pant sizes are going down much slower 😕 We will get there

I’m almost 7 weeks out from surgery. When I first started my weight loss journey last July I was a 2x and they were tight. At surgery I was a tight 1x. Today I bought some XL shirts. Woohoo!

Miss a few days & miss lots of fabulousness. Love that skirt & tweed jacket @AngieBear & I can’t wait to see you looking glamorous at your gala @Sophie7713. Congrats on your nsvs @november11 - looking good. I love spots & stripes too @kristieshannon. Big love to @AngieBear & @Sophie7713 promoting self worth. Sadly, making judgements about others based only on how they look is becoming endemic in society. I put my hand up shamefully & admit to have done it too. Worse that, in a previous life I taught 11/12yr old girls & would push individuality, resilience, self confidence & respecting others. Went to see my surgeon today. Bought the dress about 6wks ago & it’s a little big now. Those 2.5kgs I unintentionally lost have dropped me down a dress size (pity party thread followers know of my pain).

After years of reading my medical reports and seeing terms and unflattering statements like obesity, morbid obesity, "composed mostly of fatty tissue", and "due to patient's habitus," (which is the medically polite way of saying "can't see sh*t due to too much fat!" I finally had a CT scan this week and the report has the term "dose lowering technique utilized due to patients size." WooHoo...I'm too small for a normal dose of radiation! That's a NSV in my book!

Now I’m scared to wear the dern thing because I’m so used to the silicone bands I’m afraid I’ll ruin it! At least it fits!!!

How’s everyone doing? Stalls? Progress? NSVs?
-
Phenomenal Jake! I was looking for a NSV thread to share mine as well. Big NSV for me today. We have an electric scooter in the office for our starbucks runs and when we got it a little over a year ago I thought I would never be able to ride it because of the weight limit. Today much to my surprise when getting on the scale I was finally down to scooter weight!

How are my fellow December surgeries doing?
CheerfulLoser replied to lys's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Had a fun NSV today — was asked to participate in a video for work and totally fit in all of the “props” they required us to wear. So crazy! -
Weirdest things you are looking forward to after surgery
BoredFatGirl replied to Krestel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I imagine that all of our NSVs would be considered 'weird' to those who are already in-shape. 🤭 Nevertheless, here are some weird things that I am looking forward to: Being able to cross my legs femininely. Being able to shop at a store that doesn't carry plus size clothing. Being able to feel confident about myself/body in front of people who aren't family or close friends. Being able to sleep without my CPAP machine (cya later, sleep apnea)! Being able to walk through IKEA (or even stand long enough to do the dishes) without needing a break. Being able to wrap a normal sized towel around my body. Being able to conceive and have a healthy full-term pregnancy. Being able to be more active and have more fun with my stepchildren. I am sure there are a ton more NSVs that I can't wait to achieve, though! -
Anyone using a bullet journal to track their progress?
biginjapan replied to biginjapan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm so happy to hear that! I was a little dismayed to find no reference to bullet journaling after a search on this site, when it seems like it would be a great way to track everything, have goals, etc. and have everything all in one place. I also use(d) Baritastic (and others) but I see the bujo as a way of supplementing the apps, rather than replacing them. It'll be a lot easier for me to gather the raw data from the apps (especially the macros) than to have to figure that out all myself. So far what I've been trying to do is have a weekly spread for everything - meals, water, supplements, macros, exercise and a few other goals (like no eating after 8 p.m.). It doesn't leave a lot of room for anything else, but I think I've gotten a spread that I like since I want to minimise the number of pages I need to make (!) and will have to actually use. Last night I spent some time making an outline of how many pages I'll need for what, and so far I've got 20 pages (goals, quotes, photos, year at a glance, progress tracker, NSV page, etc.) before I even get to the first weekly tracker! -
THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
KarenLR75 replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
NON SCALE VICTORY (NSV) - these PJ bottoms may be the death of me since as my "width" has gone down...the um...er..crotch of the pants is somewhere near my mid thigh area - thus the pooling of the bottom of the pants on my floor...but I still LUVS them! I don't have any puppies right now (just 3 kitties)...but who wouldn't think these little scottie doggies are the cutest?! LOL @FluffyChix - seems we both like red PJ bottoms -

FluffyChix replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hahahaha! I LOVE your post!!! Great realization and NSV!!! Then I laughed even harder at the pjs story! Take them to be tailored. True story. I'm STILL wearing my drawstring jams (4x) cuz I heart them so much and can't bear to lose them! When Mr. F. sees me in this outfit (so special), he will usually say something like, "There's a new sheriff round these parts!" Cuz he thinks I look like I should have a gun hangin off my belt. And a star. Mostly a star! WTG girl and congrats on your accomplishment!!! -
THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
KarenLR75 replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm in! Thanks for the info Fluffychix & Sheribear68! I need all the help I can get to make the MOST of this journey as possible! In recent discussions with Fluffy and others, we did the math and my average amount of weight lost per month SINCE surgery is actual a bit over 12 pounds per month and that would actually have been higher if my exercise hadn't taken a nosedive in the past..well, I was thinking it was a week, but it's been more like 10 days. My INITIAL Months 1-3 weight loss was...when I compared to my siblings was not as large as theirs was so yeah...it bothered me. I tried to be careful (and yeah, we probably shouldn't compare but I did) and only compare with others IF they were in a similar situation to me. i.e. for me that was: female, 50+, menopausal, sedentary, known slow metabolism DUE to hormones, lack of exercise, medications, illness/conditions, 20+ years of yo-yo dieting and/or anything else that contributed to the slowness - some things WITHIN my control, some things NOT. On some days when I was doing better mentally, I figured well, I may be starting out slower but my rate per month may be more sustainable than theirs after the first few mos. I need to get back on my surgery sibling thread but I ALREADY know now that in looking at my weight loss data over a MORE SUFFICIENT amount of time to evaluate a truer picture of 'weight loss per mo), I'm at least an AVERAGE loser and if I deal with some recent bad habits that crept back in suddenly, I feel that with not a ton of effort I can hit a 'AVERAGE-HIGH' amt of weight loss per mo. I wanted to post as some of you know I'm very data driven. The first 2 - 3 mos of surgery, including that critical 1st mo where some of us wonder based on SO VERY VERY little calories, why weight loss wasn't higher..it's kinda of like when we were kids...I always used to say when asked..."I'm 5 and 1/2 years old"...because I was PROUD of that '1/2'...and the age I'm at now, man, I round DOWN!!! When we are little though...at young ages, our time on this earth is so SMALL at that point, that our experiences for the first let's just say..5 yrs...is obviously the BULK of our entire little life at that point. Flash forward to today and being..cough..like around 50...and ages 0-5 is nothing but a BLINK. Statistically barely factors. I realize now that while yes...my first 2 mos especially I found to be a bit disappointing at the time, in hindsight, just 4 more months out, the math is showing that DESPITE my true challenges and even for me, some emotional/mental ones, I am at least an AVERAGE loser. I'm posting this hoping to give those who are only a couple of months out and may be fighting with disappointment...some hope and another way to consider things..and to stay on track and let the time pass...then look back at what has happened. My wish for all of us is we become part of..someday...a "We WERE slow losers but look at us now" type of thread..lol. I realize that there are ppl with much more severe issues than what I'm dealing with so in no way do I mean to do your situation any disservice. Oh...and along with realizing I'm at least 'average'...I had a small NSV on my way to taking my laptop back into my office...my PJ bottoms (yeah, I work from home) fell down and I almost fell over my own feet..LOL. I LOVE these PJ botttoms so much I'm seriously considering taking them to a tailor!! -
This was cool for me. This surgery for me, wasnt just about losing the weight, but also about getting the body i always wanted. Im far from being there but im really starting to see results. I finally have shoulders and arms! I started crossfit 10 days after surgery. Mixed with running this is what ive stuck to and the results are really starting to show. Im 222 now but im also building muscle and still cutting the weight. I always do monthly progress pics and i decided to flex a little. I was shocked myself. I even had the two top abs. I couldnt believe it. I always wanted definition and its really starting to show, Im glad i could do this, while still cutting the weight. Cant wait to see what i look like at 199.

Yep! You're not alone! That was a HUGE NSV for me. I felt like a "normal" person! I loved standing up just so I could sit down and do it all over again. I must look like a Jack-in-the-Box! LOL!

Seeing my collarbone for the first time in forever was one of the first e NSVs for me. I still love seeing them.

January 2020 Surgery Date
DebDown replied to Krimsonbutterflies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Checking in on everyone again. I’m 6 days post op! Started back to work yesterday and that’s gone well. Husband out of town so I’m taking care of our 6 year old daughter, 3 dogs, and 2 cats myself with no issues. Energy is pretty much back to 100%. The hardest thing for me right now is getting the carafate down. YUCK. The dieticians warned me that I may not tolerate protein shakes with whey concentrate after surgery, and unfortunately that is the case. No problems with whey isolate at all. My incisions are all healing well. No pain at all. My head is definitely playing some games. I know what they mean now when say how important it is to do the head work or you won’t be successful. Hope everyone is doing well, good luck to everyone having surgery in the coming days! oh I almost forgot. I had my first two NSVs. First, I’m already off all three of my blood pressure medicines. And I was able to put my wedding ring back on this morning! I haven’t been able to wear it in a couple years, I’ve just been wearing a band. -
This is wonderful news congrats I can't wait for mine own NSV lol

So, I've experienced quite a few NSVs as of recent. I can cross my legs (not super comfortably yet, but hey); I'm in a size 14/16, down from a 26; and I see my collarbones. Yay! 2 1/2 months out - 50 lbs lost post surgery and an additional 54 lbs was lost before (on my own, July 2019). I'm walking fast and exercising amazingly. This, all from the woman who got winded walking down the block to her car. Life is good!
