  1. Hi everyone, Hope that the holidays are joyous. I need some help getting back on track. I had gastric sleeve in 2015 and lost over 100 pounds. I started excercising, was doing really well until this year. I ended up having some serious joint pain issues and started on prednisone. That med worked wonders for reducing the inflammation in my joints BUT it made me feel as hungry as a pregnant cow....and I craved sweets. I ate. This coupled with getting married and now going through a divorce...has has me stress eating. My lowest weight was 168 and now I am at 205. I started at 300. I refuse to gain anymore weight back. This has been the HARDEST time in my life to loose this extra weight. Anyone over 4 years out have any tips for when hunger returns? After year four from getting sleeved my hunger just all of a sudden returned. And then the medication didn't help. Also going through the marital stress was another factor. I've REcommitted myself to getting back on track. I even went to the weight loss doctor for help with food cravings. Y'all tell me what works for you and help me with your tips. Thanks

    Happy Days

i had a similar experience with my 6 year old last year... we got on the ride and since the chain/belt could not be buckled we were told to get off...i felt terrible, thankfully her daddy was there and she got to ride. I have not gone back to the park, but i think i would fit now. I still have about 60lbs to loose but i really want to get there so that i NEVER have to get off a ride because i dont fit.
  3. thanks! yea pretty much..i'm able to achieve muscle growth, i can see it and feel it in my legs and arms. im and apple shape. so most of my body fat hangs around my torso. i have to do a lot of cardio. i think im scared to look too thin. and so i havent kept up with my cardio routine.HIIT cardio is best for fat loss along with diet. I loosely track my macros in addition to my calories but for the folks who really do follow their macros, I've seen some amazing transformations. You can google IIFYM calculator to calculate your levels. I would also keep hitting the weights as well to provide shape and definition to your body as you shed fat. Keep us posted on your progress. Great job so far! Can you even believe you have to worry about looking too thin!!! ???? I will definitely look deeper into HIIT. I don't dig too deep into tracking macros and all of that because I don't want to drive myself crazy. I'm bad enough when it comes to calories. I might give it a try if it doesn't seem like too much. It is absolutely crazy to think about looking too thin! Who would've thought. I will definitely keep you posted. And you look great by the way! Thanks for the encouragement ????

    Valentine's Day Challenge

I'm in. Most people say not to set unrealistic goals but I find that they push me harder. Plus I've been working out hard and eating right so I expect to loose big this next week, thats how its worked so far anyway; current 341 goal 299 42 lbs:cursing:
  5. I think you should warn the surgeon about everything. Because we are all human and we can't always see all the important details. He can be a good surgeon, but perhaps because of the stress at work, he may not notice any of your sleeves, so it is better to warn him about everything in advance. My friend recently had cosmetic surgery after she went to a skin clinic care to remove scars on her body and she also had a face thread lift skin care clinic and she was very satisfied with the results. Before she talked with the surgeon about the operation, they discussed everything in advance, and only after that, the surgeon examined her.

    Something else I won't miss ...

The skin on my upper arms isn't very pretty - little pink bumps. Some years ago, when I asked my (rather insensitive) dermatologist, he responded to his medical intern (like I wasn't even sitting there), "We see that a lot in overweight people." I hope as the weight comes off, and with some TLC skin care, I'll have decent upper arms ... even if they'll be a little flabby.

    Day One

Well, This is the first day of my diet and since it is only 9:12a, I can say I am doing just fine! I really need to do this, it is for my own good. I ate cereal, milk and an egg for breakfast. The one thing I must do is prepare lunch and dinner for the days I work. I am begining to see that I am overweight because I am lazy! I want to be able to pick up whatever I want to eat or drink and have it! Well, that is not working well for me. I am going to have to relearn how to eat and drink. I know it is going to be difficult, but sooo worth it. At some point, I may start posting vlogs on you tube, I am just not that confident yet! I have a weird accent and I really don't like how I look. I have been thinking about excess skin, is it inevitable? I hope that as I loose, I tone with the excercise and loose skin won't be a huge problem. Well, for right now I just need to concentrate on my food plan. More later...

Anyone cheat on pre op diet?

Some doctors don't even require a pre-op diet. My doctor required me to go on a low fat/low carb diet 2 weeks prior to surgery to try and shrink some of the fat out of my liver. It makes the surgery easier, so I've been told. I did this in a loose manner and lost about 3 lbs. prior to surgery. All went well and my surgery was fast with no complicatons. Basically, I ate sensibly and cut most of my bread/sweets out...notice...I said "most". Doesn't sound like you went overboard, so don't sweat it and continue on. Tomorrow is a new day.
  11. So excited and scared as hell at the same time! My journey is almost complete . I am 6 lbs from goal and hope to lose that in skin! What are some words of advice you have for me as I prepare for surgery? Things to take to the hospital, things to have on hand at home, what to wear post op...your words of wisdom would mean so much to me!!!

Agnonizing stomach/back pain. Went to ER

I spent over a month in and out of the hospital this past May through June. It started out with constipation and then cramping in my back and stomach. The cramping was not just in my lower stomach and back but all the way up into my chest. The constipation got so bad I had to take 3 enimas at a time along with laxatives just to pass something. The pain was so bad I kept going to the emergency room. They gave me several Scans with contrast(IV) but it showed nothing. I had x-rays , bloodwork, a colonoscopy, you name it and they did it. The pain was so bad at times I could not stand up . My husband felt so helpless because I would scream in pain and the doctors would just say they don't see anything. They were going to take my appendix out then they thought stones but none of that showed up. I went to a gastro specialist, my primary doctor and my lab band surgeon and no one had a clue. Finally they decided they were just going to have to open me up and look around. I was in so much pain I didn't care what they did. I also felt like they thought I may be making it up. When they did the exploratory surgery they found a huge ball of scar tissue from my lap band surgery had wrapped itself around my intestine and closed it off. It actually formed like a growth around my intestine. Also the tubing was wrapped up in it. This did not show up on any of the scans or x-rays because it just looked like skin and tubing which was suppose to be inside me just not in that way so this did not tip them off as to anything being wrong. Because I was constipated for so long my colin has stretched and will never work properly again. I will be on laxitives every day for the rest of my life and may need another surgery.
  13. Hello everyone, I was banded 3 days ago on the 21st. I've had what I'm assuming is the normal pains related to the gas and port area. I'm a little confused since reading this, some people have talked about Gas X strips? Should I look into those and do they help? I've been drinking Crystal Light, Fruit Punch, and unsweetened tea, along with Water of course. Is there anything else I might be able to try? I also have some questions about excess skin. Is it likely that I will have skin left over from the weight loss or does it all depend on the person? Anyone's feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thanks to everyone and good luck!
  14. Hello to everyone. I have a surgery date in two weeks and I am on the pre-op eating plan. I am also nervous but so anxious to begin my own journey. I had alot of my questions answered but was wondering....what all did you take to the hospital? The nurse mentioned wearing "loose" clothes. Does she know how long its been since I had LOOSE clothes !! lol Thanks for the help.

    8 years out.....

Unfortunately there is no magic skin poofing button. LOL I wish! I have lost 152lbs and have a lot of the same issues with chaffing. Even so without long history of having that skin problem documented most insurances will not cover removing it, because they say it's cosmetic. I say BS. I had a terrible time with my bat wings....they were very large and even though I had gotten to my optimal weight I still had residual fat and tons of leftover skin and no matter what I did, nothing helped. I did not even realize how badly it pulled on my neck. So I pain 5950.00 to have them removed 5 weeks ago. I have to do the same with my stomach and breasts because everything is hanging low pulling on my spine. I have osteoarthritis of the spine and have had 6 back surgeries so far. Hoping to hold off another one. Anyway, you think insurance would cover these things given Morbid obesity is a metabolic disease. Yikes! It will cost me another 18K to have both my Abdominalplasty and breast lift with augmentation. That is the bad news.....the good news is there are excellent surgeons out there who can do this kind of work if you can raise the funds to do it. It is the only way I know of taking that skin off your body. It simply will not go away without it.
  16. My question is, can you feel your port when you touch your stomach? Is the port visable through the skin?
  17. Jachut

    About The Port...?

Mine's easy to feel - in fact you can feel the tubing too until it disappears into the muscle. Its also easily visible. I do have a weird pocket of loose skin on my upper middle abdomen which I suspect must be from pregnancy as that's the only time I've ever had a really big stomach. If I ever get that fixed, my port will be REALLY visible - through clothing too I'd imagine. Once you lose the body fat, the port is going to show, there's no real way round that. But when I say visible, I'm happy enough to put on a bikini, people need to be lookign right at and for it to really notice it.

    Skin removal

I'm on Medicare, but I was told the same thing about skin removal. The counselor explained that skin removal was not the same as a tummy tuck, so if I wanted to have the whole navel placement, I'd have to pay the difference. I don't know whether that was explained or not.

    Disappointed Big Time

I can relate to the gas pains - but I knew that was something that could happen from when I was researching it. So I find what triggers it and try not to do it. Some foods, sometimes it's just to much air...everyone in the band journey is so different. The band isn't for everyone some use to the fullest extent and some don't..the key w/ the band is that you have to use your tool the way it's suppose to be used. Changing your eating habits. I have a friend that is 1 year out of the RNY and has already gain 20 pounds back. Yes I am still lossing she told me she didn't learn to eat right when she first had her RNY and know she paying for it. I know SEVERAL RNY patients that have gain a lot of weight back. They will all tell it was because they didn't learn the "healthy" eating habits. So yes it is taking me longer to loose my weight but study's show that over a 5 year time I will have actually lost more weight then the RNY patient and kept it off. The RNY patient will have lost, gained, lost and could have gained more. One other thing w/ the band it says you should loose about 50 - 60% of your excess weight. Well if you are over weight by 100 pounds they say you should loose 50 pounds. Now I am not taking that I am going to prove them wrong. Good luck on it..I hope your gas pains have gotten better and things are going better for you. Was there any chance you could change to the RNY now that you have lost some weight? Good Luck again and know the band isn't for everyone. One last thing my thorey is the it doesn't matter what surgery you have we are all in the same struggle together - to get healthy and live longer.

    Disappointed Big Time

I'm sorry. I completely disagree. It does work the way it was told for some of us. I had no surprises. I eat the "healthy" food and I am losing weight. I'm sorry you're disappointed in your band, but I don't think it's fair to generalize a grievance. Additionally, if you lose weight rapidly there is a higher chance of saggy skin. If you lose slowly you can exercise and tone things while keeping up with the speed of your weightloss. Rapid weight loss doesn't allow the skin time to slowly resume to normal. Yes-age, heredity, etc. affect skin. But giving your body time to keep it together is also worth a lot.
  21. It has happened all so very fast... it was only a couple of weeks ago that my wife and I attended the informational seminiar. We discovered that we were screwed by an exclusion on our insurance that will not cover any claim that has, quite literally, ANY discussion with any health care professional ANYTHING weight related, (I had to pay out of pocket for an appt for a cracked foot becuase I casually mentioned to the doc I was using SlimFast to try to loose weight so that my feet would hurt less). That wasnt about to stop us. We cleaned out our 401K and took a line of credit, and I am having my first appt with the surgeon today. Tomorrow, we have the first appt with the dietician. I woke up today with a high anxiety. It was, however, quickly over powered with a strong sence of gratitude.. ... gratitude... The mountain that proverbially stands before me is the "new me". It's cool wind that cools and refreshes me that comes down into the valley I stand is fragrent and sweet... it is the breath and words I speak in the future as to the "well done" for walking with the courage necessary to navigate a road with a measure of hope, a measure of gratitude, and a measure of child like innocence. How scary was the anticipation of your first visit, and how do you feel afterward?
  22. I told my kids (7, 10 &13) that I was having surgery to loose weight so that I would have more energy to play with them. I really emphasized the "more energy" and "healthier" side of things rather than just the weight loss. It seemed to work well for them. We went to church tonight for the first time since surgery 3 weeks ago. My middle son said one of his friends asked where he had been and he told him "my mom had surgery so we had to stay home so she could rest." Being a 10 yr old boy his friend asked what kind of surgery and my son told him that it was surgery so I would have more energy. I thought that was a pretty good answer for a 10 year old.

    Vitamis D level too low

According to the internet: If you shun the sun, suffer from milk allergies, or adhere to a strict vegan diet, you may be at risk for vitamin D deficiency. Known as the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D is produced by the body in response to skin being exposed to sunlight. It is also occurs naturally in a few foods -- including some fish, fish liver oils, and egg yolks -- and in fortified dairy and grain products. Vitamin D is essential for strong bones, because it helps the body use calcium from the diet. Traditionally, vitamin D deficiency has been associated with rickets, a disease in which the bone tissue doesn't properly mineralize, leading to soft bones and skeletal deformities. But increasingly, research is revealing the importance of vitamin D in protecting against a host of health problems.

    hope I don't chicken out

You sound like me! I thought I had wrote it. I'm going to be 6 yrs older than you on the 14th. and that's when I knew you could be a sister from another mother. I have no regrets so far. I wish I had done it years ago to really be enjoying it to the fullest now. Now it's not easy and you follow the rules closely because you loose the most weight in the beginning. We are all different here and hit things at different times. But we all get on the loosing bench and will be wearing our sexy dress out....even if it's just to the grocery store. Welcome!!!
  25. 60 lbs on the pre op diet??? If I could do that well at dieting, I would not need surgery...just had to say. Surgery was my last resort because I was unable to loose weight any other way. And my 6 month program proved just that to my insurance...that I indeed needed surgery, nothing else will work. Just had to say...I read these posts all the time and it makes my head spin...I just don't understand the reason for wanting - needing to be successful on that 6 month program.... I know Dr.'s are asking people to be successful, what else would they say other than give it your best effort...which mine did...and I FAILED....and the staff just smiled knowing something????
