Hi! My husband is in the Air Force and we are stationed at Lackland AFB, TX. I was seriously considering the RNY surgery, but was too scared of the possible complications and side effects. Just this past week I found out that Tricare is now covering the lap band surgery. I had said before that if they ever did I would do it in a heartbeat. However, we will be moving this summer (more than likely) and I don't want to start the process of getting approved and then have to start it over when we move. I just hope where ever we move I will be able to find a good surgeon. Does anyone know how to look for a great surgeon in the bariatric field? Or have any tips of what to look for? Also, my BMI is only 34 right now however I am borderline diabetic, I have PCOS, hypertension, high cholesterol, and had my gall bladder removed 10/07. I could still lose 100lbs and be in my normal wt. range though. Also, I'm looking for people's experiences with getting the lap band. What I can look forward to, or not? I'm very excited for this journey! I know that with the lap band I'm not going to drop 60lbs in a month or anything and this is particularly why I chose the lap band. I really wanted something that will help me keep off the wt. more effectively than just diet and exercising. I really see this as a tool to lose wt. more than just a miracle wt. loss procedure. Thanks in advance for all your advice!:wink2:

My seminar was 2-10-07 and my surgery is set for 4-2-07. My first consult with the Doc. Was 2-27-07, misc. appointments, then pre-op diet is tomarrow 3-19-07 for two weeks and my last Doc. visit is 3-22-07, and I will be banded on 4-2-07 = less than 60 days from seminar to surgey - self-pay!!!! GOOD LUCK AND HEALTH TO YOU AND ALL!!

If you do not have insurance to cover, there are many places to have this done. I know Mexico is a bit far and I would think a little scary, but there is a lady in Cincy that is cheaper than that. Just ask around on here, tons of self pay's under 10 grand. Most say they would do it again in a heartbeat.

Cheated On Pre-Op Diet
pink dahlia replied to Amanda Ehlich Titus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was good 90% of the time and not so good the other 10%. i still lost 6 lbs and my few small cheats had no effect on my surgery. i wouldnt worry about it, i think the dr just wants you to lose weight to help your liver be smaller before surgery. call your drs office if you need to, im sure youre not the 1st person who cheated. good luck !! -

Hi all> I was banded Feb. 19 by Dr. Earl Fox in Richland, WA. He and his staff are great! Only issues since banding have been that I am not pain-free as soon as I wanted to be (wanted to wake up next day without pain) and even consumming less than 600 calories a day, still no weight loss. Doctor and friends tell me to be patient but it is tough.

@@sferriol hang in there sis its oneday at a time!!! you got this....me Im like can I just smell it? Lick it? Ahhh hunger hit hard!! Just wait till we have skinny girl problems????Lyn,You are so right. I have news to share. First off made it through one more day! Second of all I started this crazy adventure on 6/10/15 weighting in at 318lbs and yesterday I weighed in on 296.5 lbs. I haven't seen 200 in a very long time. This just makes me want to be a good girl. I know there will be days we break down, but like Lyn says..."just can't wait till we have skinny girl problems". Thanks Lyn and anyone else who has taken time from their lives to share their positivity. I needed to hear that. Awe shucks???? your welcome love!! Mama said there'd be days like this....we have all made the decison to change what ever it was in our lives that made us add layer upon layer weather it was to protect us from heartache, rejection, family, molestation, rape, abuse, fear,or comfort...gosh how many times did I hear"Lynn you have such a pertty face.....if you would just take care of your body....but no one offered a solution or cared enough about the fat girl to get to the core of what made me self loath and lose self control. But that is no longer relevant I am just happy that at 45yrs old I now have tool that I will use to dicipline myself and become that healthy beautiful woman that WILL shed years of built up unessisary layers and take pride in knowing that this life altering change we have all undergone that is irreversable we will struggle and fall but we will slowly emerge Renewed transformed and stronger than ever....not cause our society dictates but rather because it is our time to thrive and shine....look out Kardashians,JLo get ready for a whole new bread of women ????% real women who have struggled but overcoming all the hate and cruelty media society and culture threw at us.....I vow that as I become my new self I will do everthing that I can to encourage and help any "Obese person" still trapped in a world of hurt!! -

The 15/10/5 is a good idea, but does your RD include a snack too? Bc that would only be 45 g of protein/day, which isn't a lot. My RD recommends 20 g of protein per meal and if you have 1 snack, to make it something like a 10 g protein snack....

Hi there, I'm going to be a public school teacher this fall in Georgia, and have recently found out that lap band is not covered!! I want the surgery and feel I am a good candidate, so I don't want to be covered under the state's plan. I'm thinking about purchasing a plan with a provider outside of my job, if this is allowed. Can someone point me in the right direction? My BMI is 44 and I've been overweight for 10 years with a medical history to back it up. Can someone help??

I had to take 3 horse pill antibiotics and a prilosec in the morning and at night. Trust me, the two months will go by fast. I got my band two weeks ago and Im still wondering where the time went. __________________ Jill Banded on August 15th:clap2: Dr Bauman, NC 297/283/170 Let the loss begin! Christmas Goal 275 -
A clothes horse from WAAAAYYYY Back
Coookies replied to ******'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Great story!!! I've recently done the same thing... to the point where I had about 15 nice shirts for work in my closet.. to me that was just shocking...since I'm a clothes horse like you.... I called my best friend and told her, and she told me to come over and get all of the smaller size clothes I had lent her about 3 years ago... i did, and some of them fit!! The rest are freshly washed and waiting on a new clothing rack for me to shrink out of the larger shirts I had kept... Since there is no Goodwill here and no hope for finding things bigger than a size 10 in the shops... and pants...forget about it..at 5'8" I'm much taller than women here and my arms are longer... So I decided to order new t-shirts and knit shirts from the US and to take all of my huge clothes and cut them down and make them into smaller shirts and lots and LOTS of skirts... so when I get to a 14 that is where my pant supply ends, from then on, I will be wearing skirts, and lots of them!!! Thank goodness for the online creative geniuses who post videos of things they've sewn from larger clothes!!! -
Food funerals
ShelterDog64 replied to beautiful_alarms's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have to do any pre-op diet restriction at all, and I also got my surgery day with a pretty short period of time between that and the big day, about 10 days. I pretty much ate what I wanted, but my problem has never been eating 'bad' food per se, it's been more of a quantity issue and at 51, my metabolism is shot from years of 50 lbs up/50 lbs down/40 back up dieting. We went to a couple of my favorite restaurants and I had what I wanted, and I felt a little panicky the day after surgery when the enormity of the change I'd made really set in. Eat what you want within reason, I'd say...you're not going to gain significantly in a week and after surgery you CAN'T eat, so it's not like you're setting yourself up for some bigger change than those who are on restrictive diets already. And for what it's worth, I have zero food cravings now (except a weird obsession with blueberry scones?) and can watch others eat foods I previously loved without even wanting them. -
Hi there. My name is Read and I was banded in July. I live in MD and am married with 2 kids. I'm just figuring out what's going on here so I thought I'd start with an introduction. I've lost 30 total pounds; 25 since surgery. I don't really have good restriction yet - I'm more in a really good headspace to be successful on a fairly restrictive diet - but I'll take it. My doctor is Dr. von Rudeun and I need more data to recommend him. I think his medical skills are certainly fine, but the jury is still out on the rest. I look forward to getting to know some people.

Yesterday I got to work and meeting with 2 coworkers and I stood up from my chair and that's the last thing I remember. I got cold, clammy, diaphoretic and from their accts I clinched my jaws, my pupils were fixed & dilated and I was completely unresponsive. They're nurses, so they tried to get some sugar down me, then checked my blood pressure - I didn't have one. They put me in the floor with my feet above my head and called 911. By the time the ambulance got there (10 mins) I was coming around. They did all kinds of scans & tests and all was normal. I have an appt with my surgeon this morning. I'm terrified of this happening again! If I'd been alone or driving, I would have died. They checked my blood sugar and it was like really low even after them pouring sugar down me. I had no warning signs, no weird feelings or anything. I'm 26 days post op. I have an hour to drive to dr and I'm praying this doesn't happen again. I had bfast already and I'm going to sip on some juice. At this point, my safety is more important than not drinking sugar filled juices Anyone else have this happen? It was scary!

New Here! Just starting the process and scared as hell (but excited too)
Phoenix40 replied to MamaRhea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just came back from my Introduction Seminar. I learned I have to lose 10% of my highest weigh in at my last visit. Since I have managed to lose 11lbs already, I only have to lose another 28lbs to have my surgery. That makes me really happy. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App -
