  1. Don't count calories, just make sure you try and stay below 5 grams of both fat and sugar. At week 3 I could have pureed but also tuna smashed with low fat mayo, eggs, scrambled with a bit of low fat cheese thrown in or I made egg salad. Chew, chew, chew. sugar free puddings are good too.

    Hoping for a September date!,

Don't worry Amanda I'm sure you can do it. Stay focused on the prize and you do just fine. It's ok to get discouraged because women typically loose weight slower than men so don't let that keep you down. This is what this forum is for so that you can find that motivation and be successful. Use the app My Fitness Pal to track your calorie intake. It sounds silly but when you actually document what your food intake is you are much more aware of what your eating. It wouldn't hurt to start counting calories now cause you probably be doing it soon or after surgery anyway. Hope this helps. Brian

Wine is so divine.. or is it? lol

You are funny. Run to the quickest AA meeting. LMAO. Seriously, I love lambrusco and you just described me when I drink a half bottle of the wine. My husband tells me that my cheeks get rosy and I talk a lot. I just had my first fill today and I am going to wait until the first part of next week to finish my bottle of wine. I say just enjoy and don't over endulge too much because you don't need all those extra calories.
  4. Me too on the 18th. I am feeling a little rumbling in the tummy, but not really hungry. I feel as though I should be hungry though as I am not getting many calories in. I just keep sipping broth, juice, and eating jello. I'd be surprised though if I am eating 500-700 cal/day. Anybody feeling a double rumble? It seems like I feel a deep rumble in my big old stomach and a little higher pitch rumble in my new stomach. Am I just imagining that?

    Who's reached goal weight?

No one will EVER accuse me of being "thin," that's for sure. But for now I am indeed at what I would consider a "goal" weight. In fact, just over the last few weeks because of my gastritis/esophagitis, I lost a few more pounds and actually started feeling a little weird about it. I just really can't imagine being truly slender, so I'm happy at my current shape. The "brakes" on this vehicle are self-regulating. Let's say you've gotten your calorie intake down to 1400 a day, at which point you're losing 1-2 lbs a week. Once you lose 100 lbs, the same calorie level won't mean any weight loss because your body no longer needs more than that to maintain itself. So don't worry, P'Nut, you won't waste away to nothing! :biggrin1:
  6. Fat is fat is fat and the only way to burn it off is with cardio and calorie reduction (in whatever form appeals to you, high carb low fat, low carb etc). Lift weights and preserve your lean muscle too, that helps burn fat as well and if you do it in the form of high intensity weight training or circuit training and the like you'll get cardio/fat burning benefits from the actual exercise too. But no amount of crunches or abdominal work will directly shift fat from your belly. You get six pack abs the same way you get visible biceps or quads, by losing the fat that's hiding them. Unfortunately though, where your body stores fat is genetically and hormonally determined. I'm lucky to have a flat stomach but there's no help for my backside. I will always have a saggy rear end, its where I store fat and my skin is loose and yuck there. To lose the fat I store there the rest of my body would look like I just came out of a concentration camp. To some degree, plastic surgery is your only option once you've exhausted reasonable fat loss.

    hi new here !

One of the things about the sleeve is that most or all of the stretchy part of the stomach is removed - there will be SOME changes in capacity as it heals and the swelling goes down, but everything I've heard is that you will retain sufficient restriction that you will be satisfied physically with very small meals. Just be aware that it is very possible to cheat your way past the restriction if you don't stay attentive to what you're eating. Some foods are classified as "slider foods" - they go through your system very quickly so the full sensation either isn't triggered at all or your stomach empties too quickly and you're hungry again. You could still drink a lot of empty calories, too. The same thing is true of the band, though.

    1500 cal diet pre surgery

It is a mind game, because you have limits on what you can and cant have! Be thankful you aren't on one of the harsher stricter pre-op diets. Mine was 3 Protein drinks and liquids. I averaged 500-600 calories a day. Enjoy making the best healthy meals that you can on what you allowed, and know that these next 4 days will soon be over!
  9. Thanks so much everyone for all the kind words and encouragement! Much better day today. Need to steer clear of sweets for a while and I did so successfully today. On another note, my weight dropped again.... Hmmm... trying not to use that as an "excuse" to eat poorly though. I think that is where I am getting hung up (partially) and allowing that thought to lead me to believe I can eat whatever I want because "look I am not gaining!" The unhealthy eating will catch up with me eventually though, so just gotta keep to a meal plan/calories for now and see how it goes before I decide to increase my calories again. Really appreciate all of you more than I can express!!

    Ate Some Tomato Soup

Wow! I thought u were talking to me! Lol. I felt like I ate bad today too. I did good except for after supper I had a 1/2 cup of ice cream and a laughing cow cheese and 8 m&ms! I am still at 875 calories for the day but feel horribly guilty and didn't exercise for first day in 5. I wonder if people could turn anorexic (is that the one where u don't puke but don't eat) after lap band? I have been happiest this week when I burned enough calories and ate a low enough that it dropped me under 400 calories for the day. Weird how life is changed so much! I might have to walk/jog in the morning before a day at the lake!

    Roller Coaster Ride

If you are doing any strength training then you are building muscle which will weigh more and coming down from 6x per week to 3-4x per week will make a difference. Once your body recognizes this it will adjust accordingly. Drink Water. They say that you only need about 25-30 min of cardio and 15min weights and large muscles burn calories/fat faster, so do leg weights.

Pure Protein Shakes are ok 35 g in 12 oz can, 170 calories Just Do It!!!
  13. Hi everyone! I have been working out more and more - cardio as approved by my doctor. Yesterday I was super exhausted from it and was hungry. It was a different kind of hunger, not the I want crap food and want to eat everything, but just I am drained and need something. I have been consistently around 700 calories per day and have the intention of getting it up to 1200 over the next few months per my nutritionists suggestion. Yesterday I ended up having two dinners separated by a couple of hours because of my hunger. I ended the day at 850 calories with 66 grams of carb, which is significantly more than usual. I feel like I should be ok with this, but I am feeling guilty and like I did something wrong yesterday. I ended up losing .8 lbs this morning, but I guess I am just terrified of increasing my calories. Have any of you faced this? How did you get past it? Thanks!

    Hunger, exaustion and guilt

I have noticed that I have days where I am hungrier and when I review the day in my mind, I often find that I either did not drink all the water or did not consume 55+ grams of Protein from shakes as recommended by my NUT. I am staying focused on those two things and it seems to help. I do agree that you likely need to increase your intake due to the amount of exercise you are doing and the calories you are burning. Also remember that exercise will build muscle which is heavier than fat, BUT muscle burns calories all day long so it is a good change. If you took "before" measurements, you are likely seeing wonderful changes. Keep the faith!
  15. My preop calories were to be under 800 a day. I chose low fat low carb protein shakes like phd diet whey, isopure, precision and even slimfast if out and about. If you're in the USA, I hear premiere protein being discussed a lot. They don't seem to sell it in the UK. If your plan says liquids only then that's exactly what it means. No sugar free pudding etc. If you don't stick to it you could jeopardise your surgery so do it to the letter. Phone your surgeon if in any doubt about anything as this is definitely something you need to get right.xx
  16. There is a new machine at the gym!!!! It is a treadmill that is split down the center and while the tread rolls and allows you to adjust the speed, each side go up and down at an incline - which you can control how much of an incline as well. It is TWICE the workout! Burned 200 calories in 20 mins on this machine alone.
  17. In my first consult with the nurse practioner I was told I needed to loose about 30 pounds before surgery. Keep in mind I had already lost 30 pounds on my own with exercise. When I met with the surgeon he felt around and said that he felt he could do the operation as I was. At that point I had lost about 25 pounds. Having read that people are put on a presurgery liquid diet I asked him if I was going to have to do one. He replied "Well if you want to do a liquid diet; here's the one I recommend." Well that wasn't exactly what I asked. Since the diet was kind of expensive and the dietician in the group was'nt that hip on it; and I was loosing weight on my own I did'nt do it. Two weeks later I met with him for what was supposed to be my last presurgery meeting and I had lost another 5 pounds and he asked if I had been on his diet. I said no and he was a bit irritated. I was a bit hurt because one of his collegues had said I did'nt need to do it. Well I spent the $230 on two weeks of the diet expecting my surgery would be in two weeks. The liquid diet was giving me allergy like sensations and was just too low in calories. 500 calories a day and I did it for 5 days and did'nt loose any weight. Please keep in mind that I do an hour of moderate cardio a day. I went to the nurse practioner and she told me to stop the diet due to the reactions I was having. I have a meeting with the surgeon this week and wonder what he is going to say. I have been on a partial liquid diet with whey protein shakes low cal/fat/carb, high protein. I have lost about 20 pounds since I last saw him. Not sure how this meeting will go.

    Am I going crazy?

What worked for me banded Aug 27 down 103 no fills , my dietitian told me that my calorie count needed to be 1500-1300 a day for proper weight lost for my body type. So find out your calorie intake that is needed for your body style and get some type of food tracker that has a activity tracker to see calories burned to what you eat. My gym Anytimefitness has a free website like I explain when you join

  20. Gotta watch those high calorie items. Tater tot casserole is full of fat and sodium. Let the tool work for you.
  21. These are good. they come in 3 flavors. They have 10 grams of Protein and 140 calories. I find them at Walmart pharmacy in the ensure section. Don't get them confused with the snack Special K bars. I really like them for on the go. They taste like they could be cousins to the rice crispie treats. tee hee edie:p Just make sure you get the ones that say 10 grams protein on front of box.
  22. Congrats on being sleeved! Wow, you did a great job losing wait pre-op, good for you! I did the same thing, wanted to get a head start. I stalled for about 5-6 months, but knew I would be having surgery eventually to help me continue on, so for the first time in my life, I didn't give in to the old "oh well, depriving myself isn't losing the weight, so I'm just gonna go ahead and have <insert high calorie/high carb food here>. I am so glad I at least maintained the loss until getting sleeved. I was sleeved on 5/16, just a wk before you and had a great and easy recovery. Strangely last night I had some kind of weird pain under my left shoulder blade that was more irritating than painful, but it bugged me, felt like a trapped gas bubble. I didn't expect that at this point, but I guess it takes longer than I thought to work all the gas out of our system. I had hubby beat me on my back and burp me like a baby haha. Except for surgery day, I had really not had a bad problem with it, thankfully. So be aware that it can sneak up on you when you least expect it and think you are far past it lol. On the hunger thing, I too suggest a PPI, because I have no hunger as long as I take mine. If I don't, it seems like I do have an odd "fake" hunger and my tummy rumbles more. I haven't needed pain meds much at all from day one. This is remarkable to me. Most days since surgery I haven't been tired til yesterday either, I think I was on some kind of high after finally getting to be sleeved because I've been waiting on it for yrs. So I just started my B12 to see if that helps prevent me from getting tired. Of course I have been walking/shopping everyday and have probably been way overdoing it this soon. I think I am substituting shopping for the not eating while on liquids, so hopefully I will get to start mushies soon or I'll have to file bankruptcy. tehe Wow, I am impressed you are waiting 2 wks to weigh, that's great!! I am weighing now, cuz it's fun while it's coming off kinda fast, but when I get closer to that "dreaded 3 wk stall" I am going to stop weighing for a while so I don't get discouraged or depressed. I will eventually probably only weigh once every 2 wks. Glad to hear things are going good for you, and as everyone says it gets better everyday!! I am honored to be sitting on the losers bench with ya!
  23. My nut put me on a 1400 calorie diet. It is hard for me to meet that goal. She also wants me to eat 25 g of protein a day. The protein feels me up. I have lost some weight. My next appointment is July 10. I was nervous that I will lose too much weight. I am working out three days a week. I waiting to see what she says on Jul 10. I am also logging everything. If I do not lose enough I am hoping she gives me more pointers on what I am doing wrong.
  24. Thank you. Today I added protein to everything. I need to really keep track. I want to get in at least 70 grams per day. 80 would be ideal. I don't drink plain Water. I have to have zero calorie flavored water.

I had my surgery May 2nd

Yes its normal. Some people dont loose any or much until they get the "right" fill. I say that becuase everyone is different. It may take a few adjustments + or - to find what works best for you. I wouldnt go out and "try" foods that you shouldnt be eating now it may set you up for more gaining. Keep it healthy and always protien first. I have been at the 220 mark for about 12 days now. Sometimes I am 223 or sometimes just 220. I had my operation on the 1st of April. I did weigh 240. On May 8th I had 1cc put in. I can still eat too much so I need another fill. I have never slimmed or PB'd. Also, start some areobic activity is you havent already. Keep the calories under control and not too much sodium. No more than I cup of food total per meal. Better yet ask your nutritionist.
