1 year post op- not at goal
colormehappy replied to middlet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A lot of it depends on age, too. People in their 20s and even their 30s to some extent still make a lot of collagen which makes the skin more elastic. -
depends on how much fat you have left at that point. Skin doesn't weigh very much - I think I lost about 4 lbs, and I had a lot of plastic surgery (and not a lot of fat). If you have a fair amount of fat left, then yes - you could lose more.
-
I did my initial consult with plastic surgeon in mid Feb. Going to try to get insurance to deem it medically necessary because of the rashes being caused with the loose skin. My goal is to be at goal weight once I go in for the procedure and coming out of it I will be a good amount below it.

actually, at a certain point, you're going to have loose skin regardless of how fast or slow the weight comes off. If you've been significantly obese for awhile, that skin is really stretched. I don't know how much taking it off slowly will help, to be honest. If it does, it may not be by much.

This comment is not a “nananabooboo” kind of comment. I am 3 1/2 months out of surgery. Vsg on feb 17. I’ve lost 70 pounds. I know, great. Yes, I want to lose weight. It was the whole point. I do not want to STOP losing either, BUT losing this much this fast has been ALARMING. It has also caused some weird chin sagging. There’s benefit to slow and steady. Rebuilding your mental awareness that accompanies good life long habits. It will give your skin a chance to spring back. I’m going to need some after care plastics. I’m not looking forward to more surgery. I hope this was a positive message.

I posted awhile ago that I found out I was pregnant. And when I went my drs gave me a whole lecture even tho I was just a month shy of what I was supposed to wait (we weren’t trying I was told I had less than a 1% chance of ever having a baby because I’ve suffered several miscarriages in the past) anyway they scared the hell outta me and made me think this pregnancy wasn’t going to be successful. But I am currently 20 weeks and expecting a baby boy 💙 the baby has a two vessel cord so they are keeping a close eye on him but everything looks good! Only the BPD was measuring a bit behind (only 2-3days) everything else was either measuring right or a few days ahead 💙 early pregnancy I lost 14lbs due to nausea and not being able to eat or drink Protein Shakes but a month or two in the nausea started going away so I started getting 90-100g of Protein to catch back up. Pre pregnancy I was 212lbs and I got down to 197.6lbs I’m currently half way thru and just now gaining weight so I think I’m doing well. this morning I was 205.4lbs. My obgyn asked me if I was eating because I wasn’t gaining anything and was actually loosing 😅 (they are aware I had the surgery I go to them and a specialist because I was previously a diabetic, had multiple miscarriages, and had rny) I assured her I’m eating a lot more than I did before getting pregnant. I’m hungry every two hours which is INSANE because if I don’t eat something I start to feel sick and before getting pregnant I would get the feeling of true hunger maybe once a day 🙄 but I read that is normal since our tummy’s can only fit so much and with a baby our bodies require more. I just wanted to post an update because I’m SUPER EXCITED and feel so blessed that I’ve been given the chance to create life. We’re having our rainbow/miracle baby and I am just so happy 💙🌈

Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!
Riva_G. replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I also have 20-30 pounds to lose. And I’m also checking up a lot about plastics. I’m wondering if anyone was covered by insurance due to skin irritations and fungus from the loose skin? My dermatologist told me to do research to see if I would get insurance coverage -

I'm very happy with the results so far. But i am just a few days post op Procedures: Posterior back lift + lipo + fat transfer Where: Miami (Same surgeon) Why: The same reasons as before... I wanted/needed more work completed When: May 28, 2020 With all that's happening in the world right now, I wasn't certain I should create this post but I will try to update this thread regularly ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 -
Wow! Loosing 64# in 5 months is amazing! Don’t forget that!!!! Congrats!! You are doing amazing!

We can relate, many of us worried about loose skin after surgery. Age and how long you have been obese can be factors. There is no way to predict what skin situation you have until you get to goal. No harm in trying it out. Are you pre op or post op?

Revision completed
Losingit2018 replied to Tracyringo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 6 months out now and on a regular high protein/low carb diet. I do not have trouble drinking and food does not go right through me. I have always tended to have constipation problems anyway. I take miralax every day. I have had maybe twice in the last 6 months that I needed to get to the bathroom quickly. Usually movements are normal though. I still have trouble eating things like steak, pork or smoked sausage if it has the skin on it. Nothing horrible or too hard to avoid though. I get very full on small amounts of dense protein. If I eat too fast and/ or too much it makes me sick. remember that your pyloric(sp?)valve is no longer intact like it was with the sleeve so you should not have trouble drinking with bypass. one word of advice is to take probiotics. I take them daily and could be another reason that I am able to stay regular. -
Well I think I've done pretty good with skin after losing over 150lbs and I believe once I get into the gym and start toning or lifting weights it will make a huge difference

update on 10 years out regain, and weight loss
MSWDiet replied to BriarRose's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Congrats to you! The key to managing weight gain is staying alert to it and having a workable plan. Seems like you have this in hand. I'm also 10+ years out and living through the ups and downs. My salvation has been shopping with a tape measure to ensure I never buy a larger size. Vanity also helps. I prefer the best quality I can afford over quantity. When the pounds pile on I cringe in the mirror and deal with it. Looking like all hell is breaking loose and having limited use of my wardrobe is motivating. -
I really dont know, I've seem posts of people who dont have that much loose skin in the mid section and they swear by them.

Look awesome dresses. But then the clothes come off!!

My thighs have a lot of loose skin, but when I look at before/after thigh lift pics, I'm not blown away by the difference. I decided to do my tummy and boobs, and I figure if the tummy and boob are banging, then people won't notice my thighs so much! LOL!! -

I use the fasciablaster on my flabby parts as I am still losing. Also old school leg lifts (like Jane Fonda did back in the day), squats and the fire hydrant pose can help build up the muscle to make it tighter and then the blasting could help smooth the skin. I don’t go hard, I oil and just blast to feel it but not hurt it. I didn’t know about not feeling anything in the area after a tummy tuck. That’s where I held the most weight so I’m very curious to see how I end up. My dr said not to worry because some people lose so much weight that there is nothing left to pinch. I’ve had three kids and I’ve been cut in all directions but I guess I’ll know in a few months how the losing will affect me. -

my thighs weren't horrible since I carried my weight high. I do have dimpling now and some excess skin (but not much), but not enough to warrant plastic surgery. Plus at age 60, my days of wearing mini skirts and short shorts are L-O-N-G gone. BUT...my abdomen looked horrendous (although it was easily hidden in clothes) and so did my breasts. I had a lower body lift and a breast lift, and both look great now. Other than the scars (which actually aren't very noticeable), you'd swear it was some 30-year-old's body. I also had my arms done, but in retrospect, I'm not sure I'd do those again. They really weren't that horrible to begin with. Although they look smaller now, it wasn't the same "wow" factor that it was with my abs and my breasts. I guess that's another reason I decided to skip my thighs - they really weren't all that bad, I didn't want to spend all that money not to be "wowed". but - your body is different than mine. If your thighs look awful, then yes, they'll drastically improve with plastic surgery. -

When I had my lap band weight loss I too had loose skin, so I had a tummy tuck. Just remember this type of surgery is very dangerous, you lose feeling in the surgery area, ask ask ask before going ahead and get a great surgeon. It will cost, a lot, and is not covered. I nearly died as I threw 3 blood clots, which is common with a tummy tuck. My stomach is still numb after 9 years. Some days I say it was worth it, but death is a high price to pay. Approach this type of surgery with your eyes opened. -
So I was 25lbs away from my goal a year ago. Just 25lbs. If I wasn't hit with catastrophe after catastrophe, I'd be at my goal now. But those things happened. And it's going to be very public. It's going to be on Netflix and everyone will see my body. All the puckered and loose skin. All the fat rolls. All my tears and trauma. All the confidence I faked so nobody could break me down. But it was supposed to be okay because the plastic surgery was going to fix it. Make my new life possible. I learned after exposing everything, that no plastic surgery would happen. The cameras caught it all. And I started drinking to cope with the depression. I started eating junk food. I had nobody to turn to. I gained 28lbs. Now, I've started counseling. I'm rebuilding my life. Today, I'm starting this journey again. 53lbs to my goal. Feels like a mountain and I wake up every day feeling like I can not do this. But I have to keep trying. I need encouragement, advice...anything.

MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!
MaybeMeow replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jami... I bet you can't wait to get to pureed foods. You're almost there, yes? What will you try first? Yeah, I'm concerned about the protein shakes. I've tried several the last 2 weeks and like ZERO of them. I can tolerate plain fat free greek yogurt (18 grams protein) with a little P2 powder (which has about 6 grams of protein) and sugar free chocolate syrup blended with ice. I'm hoping I can tolerate them afterwards. I figure I can do anything for 2-3 weeks. Then the real test will begin. Bought some chicken bone broth and still haven't tried it. Anyone like it? Anyone else have a nervous tummy? It's hard to see how these new products will settle when I'm already in stomach distress. Dave I just completed driving my dad to his 6 weeks PT after his new hip surgery. He's in his 80s and doing great. That's a pretty slick surgery. In and out. Anyone else out there with surgery dates? What are you doing to prepare? I ordered some unjury powder to try as I've heard good things and wanted to see if I can make jello with it. I also ordered a body pillow and a compression wrap along with a few things others have suggested that helped them like Gas X, bioteen spray for the hospital and a pair of loose fitting pajamas. With the exception of childbirth I've been lucky enough to stay clear of hospitals. This will all be new to me. -
Great that you’re thinking about riding again! I’m a long-time cyclist. I distance cycled before I was MO, casually cycled while I was MO, and went back to distance cycling again after WLS. You can definitely cycle when you’re overweight – loads of overweight people do – but something to be aware of is that knee pain is the most common lower body injury in cyclists, even in those who aren’t overweight. Excess weight (any excess weight, but particularly excess weight around the abdomen) causes you to apply significant force when pedaling, which considerably increases stress on the knees. I had knee problems when I was MO, but still managed to casually cycle without causing too much extra knee pain or permanent damage. I enjoyed it more, and therefore spent more time riding, by being aware of a few important things: Buy a bike from a professional bike shop, since they will be able to assess and measure your anatomy and match that up with a bike that’s exactly right for your body (bicycle fit is *everything*, and is crucial to minimizing riding injuries). Cycling position: Keeping the hip angle open by sitting upright, with the handlebars positioned closer to you on a shorter stem, is the best way to alleviate pressure on your belly, spine, and knees while riding. Flexibility and limberness: before and after every ride, warm up/cool down and stretch to help reduce risk of injury and make your rides more comfortable. Good example of warm up at https://www.bobs-bikes.com/articles/stretching-before-you-ride-pg910.htm. Good example of cool down at https://www.trekchicago.com/articles/stretching-after-you-ride-pg331.htm Distance: keep your rides on the shorter side, and try to avoid hills as much as possible until you’re better conditioned to riding. Intensity: keep the intensity low, staying on flat terrain as much as possible. Cycling on windy days will increase the intensity at which you ride. Saddle: it’s already challenging enough to ride when overweight, so don’t add to this with saddle sores. Even a brief ride with the wrong seat can cause long-lasting pain deep under the skin. Buy a good saddle, and use an anti-chafing product if needed. Clothes: 100% cotton workout clothes fill with sweat and become heavy, don’t effectively cool, and cause chafing. Buy a good pair of cycling pants or shorts and a top, and wash them with soap and hot water after every ride. There’s an informative article on knee issues and cycling here http://www.cptips.com/knee2.htm (reprinted for free; the original is from The Physician and Sports Medicine Journal and can be found at https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.3810/psm.2004.04.201). Make whatever modifications you need to make your bike fit your style and personality, and the ride as comfortable as possible. You’ll thank yourself every time you’re on it, and ride more often by doing so. You might even come to crave riding 😃 I hope you enjoy your time on the bike!

Two weeks post op, large incision is burning
summerset replied to Tracy04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it strictly on the surface? How does the scar look? Inflamed or something? Does the skin around it feel a little numb or tingling to the touch? Maybe a slight burning sensation? It's most likely just peripheral nerves healing. However, it's not lege artis to come to a diagnosis via internet so calling the office was of course the right thing to do. -
I was sleeved when I was 34, now 35. I'm still within my first year and learning something new about myself and my pouch every day. I did not have any issues with recovery outside of the normal pain and swelling the first few days post op. I even surprised my boyfriend's primary care doctor when I accompanied him to an appointment less than a week later! I have sagging and loose skin in the usual problem areas: upper arms, stomach, back and upper thighs. I have found that being sure to get in my fluids and moisturizing has been critical in reducing itch and how dry the extra skin folds are becoming. If I miss fluids by 8 or more ounces a few days in a row I FEEL it! I'm a shut in socially (even before Coronavirus) but I have found myself looking forward to social outings more when I have the opportunity. My clothes fit better (and are much smaller than they were before). I have more energy. I just feel "better" than I have in a long time. My coworkers have been extremely supportive, as have the few friends and family that I associate with on a regular basis. My advice would be to really take advantage of any nutritionist appointments you can get through your physician's office and insurance. I feel like I wasted some of my early time in navigating what I could and could not eat and my loss has been slower than anticipated. I know this is directly correlated to some of my not so balanced choices. It really sucks questioning how much of each nutrient you should get in a day after a certain stage. Get active when you can - I have been doing low impact walking and resistance training since 2 months out when I was given the go ahead to really move around more and I feel like it has done me *so much* good. This has given me so many more opportunities for the future and I am SO happy I did it!

Food Before and After Photos

I am a sweet potato person ! I love the almost flowery smell the skin has once cooked , anyone else notice that or is it just me ? I prefer them over other potatoes in every way except fries 😒 -
Okay, I know the title sounds sorta' childish... but it is really really bothering me. I was NEVER made fun of when I was fat. Ever. No one ever commented on my appearance. But for the FOURTH time in two weeks, random internet assholes have made fun of how I look. This morning I woke up to some girl commenting on a totally unrelated post I made that "weight loss and anorexia is bad for the skin and I look old af" and the other day some guy said it "looks like I don't have any face left". Like really cruel, eff'd up comments about my weight and my slim face. I don't engage; I just delete my comment and the entire thread. But it's really starting to hurt my feelings. I am finally happy and healthy but now I get mercilessly mocked for being a normal weight?? I don't understand. Even my mom has been saying things about how thin I am and how thin my face looks and it bothers me. My boss even makes comments about how I am thin and how she doesn't understand why I don't gain any weight because she does see me eat pizza and stuff sometimes. My doctors all say I am a healthy weight and my labs are fine. I feel like I look fine. I do feel like my face is a tiny bit too skinny, but I can't help where the weight came off. I am certainly not anorexic. I know I shouldn't let the comments of strangers (or anyone) bother me, but it really does. This is definitely NOT something I expected to have happen. I'm just feeling really down this morning... I think because the last month or so in particular I've been getting a lot of negative feedback from all over the place about how I look. I'm not here to please anyone with my appearance, but I wish people would just mind their own business. I know it's the internet and trolls exist but this is totally unexpected ****. I feel like I could cry.
