    Leaving dieting behind

I think the problem is many of us need to change our attitudes about eating. We need to eat to live and not live to eat. I think many of those principles are great, but not all of us or even many of us, would be able to just intuitively eat correctly to the point of not regaining weight or losing some aspect of our health, such as controlled diabetes without medication. I absolutely think we need to correct any bad habits or mental aspects related to our eating. I have already changed my mindset in that I no longer view how I am eating as a diet. It is a lifestyle and it is still evolving, but it will be how I eat for life. This is just my opinion and I am always learning, and will adjust if I feel compelled that I need to. In some ways my type 2 diabetes is helping me now believe it or not. By checking my bs daily I have a concrete way of gauging how what I am eating, is effecting my body, and by tracking my foods, I can make adjustments as needed. I got in the habit of keeping a food journal when I was diagnosed so it has become second nature to me and is not a bother at all.
  2. Oh ok I get it!I am still too early post-op (3.5 weeks) to even think about trying any food that I overindulged in pre-op. Also was diagnosed celiac at the same time so my list would have included pizza, Pasta, but I can't ever have them again bc of the wheat. So I'm not sure what would make my list at this point. Oh I know- chocolate! I hate pizza! And anything with cheese on it. It grosses me out. You should get your proton powder in chocolate flavour. I can and I will.
  3. Yea I can’t lay on my side either bc of my drains from the TT. I know I’ll be in the recliner for a while. Just missing my bed. I totally get just wanting to curl up on my side in bed. Good news is I’ve been off of all pain meds aside from Tylenol in the evening since Friday. So on my way up! Or on the downhill some say! Lol

    I'm Wondering--did you TELL?

I want only positive feed back...so I do not shair my wls. My hubby and daughter know bc I knew they would support me. Why put your neck under mean people boots. I keep negetive people out of my circle. I am much happier that way and I get better results in my weight loss

  6. The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I starting thinking, ''What we are so unhappy about?'' Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year? Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all involved. Whether you are rich or poor they treat your wounds and even, if necessary, send a helicopter to take you to the hospital. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home, you may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of having a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes; an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy. Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here. I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig. So why then the flat out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells. Just ask why they are going to allow a murderer like O.J Simpson to write a book and do a TV special about how he didn't kill his wife but if he did . insane! Stop buying the negative venom you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad. I close with one of my favorite quotes from B.C Forbes in 1953: ''What have Americans to be thankful for? More than any other people on the earth, we enjoy complete religious freedom, political freedom, social freedom. Our liberties are sacredly safeguarded by the Constitution of the United States, 'the most wonderful work ever struck off at a given time by the brain and purpose of man.' Yes, we Americans of today have been bequeathed a noble heritage. Let us pray that we may hand it down unsullied to our children and theirs.'' I suggest we sit back and count our blessings for all we have. If we don't, what we have will be taken away. Then we will have to explain to future generations why we squandered such blessing and abundance. If we are not careful this generation will be known as the ''greediest and most ungrateful generation.'' A far cry from the proud Americans of the ''greatest generation'' who left us an untarnished legacy.

    December surgery buddies

I did not sleep the night before my surgery bc I was so excited. I tried for ever and finally gave up. Read on here and Facebook. Double checked my bag.. I will say I took my laptop but never used it bc I sleep when I wasn't walking. Good luck and rest while you can

Just did a self fill wow feel awesome

My first thought on this was "I call bull shit"...that it was just BS to get something started, however, I've gone back and read some on Baker's old posts and am now VERY concerned this might be real...there are a lot of posts on distance and money from last year.... BB, oh please, I hope you're just messing with people, if this is true you are playing a very dangerous game. I'm a physician assistant with many years of experience in the medical field and a port that is easily accessed and wouldn't dream of doing this...the risks are just outrageous.

    My "Full Signal"

I just recently figured out that when I get the hiccups that means it is time to quit eating....no matter how little I have ate. It never fails if I try to keep eating past that I feel awful! I think it is bc I was so used to packing myself that I didnt know what being satisfied felt like, so now I let my body (or band) tell me when it is time to stop! Best of luck!

    January Surgery Bandsters Group

I haven't had a fill yet, march 13 and I'm nervous that they won't give me a fill bc I've lost a good amnt of weight, but I do get hungry about 1 hr to 2 hrs after eating a cup of food, so hoping that's a deciding factor. If they decide I don't need one, it will be ok, because I def don't wanna be too tight...that's my biggest fear!

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?

I've already fallen into the shred load of chocolate.....I'm an emotional eater and with 4 young adults living here in the same house is really hard....so frustrating and when I found an open bag of chocolate chips, I just keep eating them by the handful.. So finally emptied them in the sink and washed them down.....they're gone.. whew, that was so hard. Now back to basics. I'm at my high balance of 147 lbs and it's killing me..... Coops, I would be totally frustrated and thinking about cutting my leg off too so that I could get to goal. I seems unrealistic that your weight gain has stopped before getting to the Dr's goal. they do make they're goal higher. However on a side note, you look fabulous and so SEXY! Your even feeling more energy and healthier to boot....That to me is success.......You are absolutely gorgeous! I love your pic! I pretty much am eating primal too....I can't do processed foods anymore...It grosses me out with all the toxins that's in the food. My husband went shopping yesterday and bought some apples and pears and I freaked because he won't buy organic. All those pesticides that in the food can also contribute to inflammation and excess stored fat. Our body can't break them down and so we are poisoning ourselves. And grass fed organic meat tastes so much better than other meat.On the primal diet, my husband's diabetes is so much more under control, blood sugar levels are in the normal ranges. He has lost a couple of lbs too. Now back too me.... I am frustrated with my bounce. A doctor told me that I have allergies because my eyelids were really swollen and puffy. I didn't believe her at the time, but now I'm looking back and thinking that I might have developed an allergy for peanuts. I do eat a lot of peanuts on a daily basis.... So today will cut the peanuts out and see where my bounce weight goes. Also will be back to logging every bite I eat on myfitnesspal.com. I had gotten lazy and frustrated with all the fluctuations also. Now it's back to measuring and instead of eating, I plan to get on my threadmill to distract my head hunger..... Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading....

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?

I am so at a point where I think that I'm done and just need to eat more.....Blah.... I'm going to continue to strive to eat healthy and see where my body takes me........ Today I felt kinda heavy and blah and took my bs and it was 104 about 30 minutes after eating 2 eggs with cheese..... So I'm missing my old life, I still have 4 lb water weight and am cuting back on my salt intake.......drinking more water..... That's my update, oh and monday is GB removal day.......I think I should loose a couple of lbs there after the iv solution is gone. Cheers everyone! Hope everyone's doing well..... We are all so sexy and skinny! Even all the guys out there.....
  14. Many of your issues mirror my own. 1) I miss Pasta terribly....I have dreams about it. Truely. And bread. Neither of which I have any tolerance for. 2) My breasts look TERRIBLE. I'm back to turning off the lights for "adult time" because I'm so embarrassed! 3) My hair continues to fall out in huge, noticible clumps. Patients at work comment that I must be "shedding", because no matter how dilligent I am, I always have stray hairs all over my scrubs, my back, etc. 4) I REALLY despise when people ask how many lbs I have lost....if I tell them an actual number, I can see the mental calculations taking place. I've had a coworker comment that I was lying about the amount. If I tell people "some amount", they keep pressing. I admit, I've become a bit bitter and have inelegantly snapped back, "You never told me - are you a nazi or a communist these days? Because that's about how offensive your question was to me". 5)It has reduced my already miniscule social life - I never get invited out now, because "we know you can't drink, and it wouldn't be fun for you"....BS. 6) I sag everywhere....like a candle left out in the summer sun. I knew that there would be some loose skin, but I wasn't prepared for this. And last... 7)I hate the running commentary from those who know about my surgery, and feel the need to contribute their opinion as to the morality of an operation that has already taken place. "It goes against God's design!".....well, guess what, buster! Surgery already happened. So unless you have a time machine, feel free to put a sock in it. Or two. /endrant That being said, I would never have reached this weight alone. And for that, I am greatful.
  15. It must be nice to be fed for free at work, but I work in a hospital, and I feel sorry for the patients most of the time.
  16. Ok is anyone else having their surgery in a surgery center? The doc office called today this is what I am to expect so far: surgery at the surgery center bc I am cash pay. It is joined to the hospital....I'll go home same day with a drain and return the next day for drain removal...everyone else I know has had it and stayed overnight....so now I am freaking out. I may cancel all together.
  17. I'm slso a recent transplant from MD, now living in NJ. But I'm having surgery at Lenox Hill Dr. Roslin in NYC. We chose him BC DH is having the SIPS WLS being studied there (similar to a bypass but with milder malabsorption and less intrusive). It just so happens I'm going first.
  18. First of all at 5'4 and 165 you won't be skinny or anything close to it. Everyone is so damn fat in America, people don't even know what legit skinny even looks like. Big boned is a myth, yeah some people might have slightly larger frames but big bones is BS. My bones are 3x denser than the average woman my age and they still barely weigh anything, and they look TINY on a DEXA scan. they are covered in fat and muscle. Big bone is just lie people tell themselves and others to justify obesity. Just because the weight is harder to lose or slower coming off doesn't mean you aren't meant to lose it or you can't lose it. You are barely one year out from surgery. It will probably take you another 6 months or so to lose the rest if you keep eating right. People need to think about their general health and wellness. The way insurance is going right now, those few extra pounds can cost you a lot in insurance premiums in the future. Everyone should be striving to get to a normal BMI at this point. And just because you are smaller doesn't mean you won't have curves. I have lost an entire grown man in weight and I still have enough titties for 3 broads and I have hips, thighs and a butt. Slim thick is really a thing. People need to stop kidding themselves. You will never be this young ever again in life. Go for your goal, go for it hard. It is never going to be this easy to lose weight ever again.
  19. Day 8 post op here, I'm also on a liquid diet. It totally sucks! I'm fed up with my Protein and I can taste my medication just thinking about it. Today, I served my husbands dinner and I took a small piece of meat from his plate. Sucked on it, chewed it a couple of times and spit it out. I realized it wasn't all that. It's definitely all In the head. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    January surgeries?!

My surgeon uses a different pre-op diet: 2 shakes/day, unlimited veggies, 3 oz. of meat/day, and very limited other things, so it's low carb by nature and totals less than 1000 calories/day most days. I started it a week early and have dropped 15 lbs so far and hope to drop a little more this week. For my 2 protein shakes, I'm usually having Amazon Elements Grass-Fed 100% Whey Protein Isolate (vanilla) mixed with 2 tbsp PB2 and 1 tbsp cocoa and 8 ounces of almond milk (yum) for one shake and a "latte" made of chocolate equate premier protein knockoff mixed with 12 oz. of decaf coffee for the other. I don't like most pre-made shakes, but I don't mind it in coffee for now. I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy the Amazon brand protein powder, though, and I hope my tastes don't change much in that regard after surgery. I only bought it 'cause it was on sale and the ingredients look very similar to an expensive brand called Jay Robb that I've read a lot about. I'm getting about 20 grams of natural fiber/day and STILL need a fiber supplement. I'm not taking it, but I need it. Must be all the protein.

I hate that I had this surgery

I'm so sorry that you're feeling so bad! I've read that sometimes our hormones change right after surgery bc it's so stressful-those hormones can make you feel down and sad. Please don't over eat, that could be dangerous to your new staple line and cause a leak. I've also read that some nurses say that you will not be able to get all of your food in the first few weeks after surgery bc of the swelling in your stomach-maybe try to make sure you just get your Fluid in right now and be easy on yourself. Sounds like you need to take care of you right now!! Feeling sick is horrible but it will pass and get better. Take one hour at a time, you can make it and when you do ,you'll be so happy that you made it:)

    Conservative VS Liberal

The government mandating a vaccination is a FAR cry from the government mandating whether or not a company like McDonald's can use a clown as a form of advertising, or whether a certain city can sell coke. I belive that even you are intelligent enough to understand that there are limits to what the government should be allowed to do or not. If you permit one thing, you will be permitting many things and the government has crossed that line lately. It's time to get those who want to remove our freedoms and liberties out of there. There will be a great sweeping in November, I believe. The people do not want the kind of government that you desire, Cleo'smom. That kind of government is for the fearful, who like dependency. In 1794, when the congress gave $15,000. to assist some french refugees, James Madison, the father of our constitution, stood on the floor of the house to object, saying,"I can not undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituients." He then added "the government is confined to specific objects . It is not like the state governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part of the Legislative duty." 2 Hundred years later, at least 2/3 of the fed. budget is spent on "objects of benevolence. This is not what the founding fathers had in mind for America. Our Government is corrupt and greedy.

Max, I'm from the south and would love nothing more than to have a bowl of grits. I'm mad bc my Dr. said no corn. That means no grits.

    My work here is done

Good suggestion. I remember a thread in which vets complained about newbies being "so overly sensitive". Some vets seem to be quite sensitive and easily offended, too, as I have noticed during the last weeks. Sensitive? Nope. Gun shy? Tired of getting called names or accused of being bullies? Yes. Fed up with people coddling others in ways that could be seriously detrimental to their health and their weight loss? Absolutely. Of course, I am only speaking for me. And I'll add it's not only the Vets who are sick of the people crying "bully" or only wanting to be coddled - I'm pre-op and it's pissing me off. I'm not sensitive - I'm annoyed! It's more than just a weight loss/success concern that we have when someone goes so far off plan - it's a health concern - you can cause significant and life threatening complications! Would you coddle an alcoholic who had a drink 5 days post-op a liver transplant because they were "thirsty"???!!!! I am pre-op and have already cut back on my time on this forum. If the vets don't feel comfortable speaking up - why the hell would I even bother to stick around at all.
