  1. Unfortunately it lies all the time. If you're eating below replacement calories, you're losing fat.

    7 weeks post surgery

Congrats on your surgery. Sorry that you have struggled a bit. I didn’t have any calorie goal that early out. Although I think 600-800 seems like what I have read of others about that stage that did have goals. The head hunger is real and it doesn’t seem to go away for me. I snack on pickles when I have head hunger. Also salty but lower calories.
  3. Hi , I am 7 weeks post surgery . The surgeon found I had a hiatus hernia which he fixed along with tightening the muscle . One day after surgery I got oesophageal spasms which was extremely painful so they knocked me out by a drip for 4 days until they got it under control. My sleeve seems to be successful but am often still have feelings of faintness , and tiredness. also am wondering if someone can share what and how much they eat during the day . I think I am only getting 400 to 500 calories . I am also suffering from head hunger at night and am nibbling at cashews to try and satisfy it . The weight loss has been good and to have loss this much weight without the sleeve would have been torture and been less than half the weight loss . I don’t regret doing this but sometimes feel it is quite hard .

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

I am a year out as well and could also easily eat 1800 calories but I try not to because I know that would make me gain. If you do want to lose more you will probably be like me and have to measure everything out and plan snack times and make yourself wait for them even though you are maybe a little hungry. It has gotten harder for me now with the hunger hormones back, though. Congratulations on your loss so far.
  5. First couple of days were rough for me too. Now, day 5, it's not bad. Matter of fact, the other day I walked into a place that sells Cinnabon, the scent of which usually gets my mouth watering, instead it made me slightly nauseous. I'm drinking tons of water though. The first few days this was to manage hunger, now it's just to keep hydrated. The low calories have triggered a couple of migraines though.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

My date is Monday, April 4th. 800 calories is so little, even if it’s not full liquid. The plan they gave me isn’t calorie specific, but I believe it ends up coming out to somewhere between 800-1000 calories. We got this, just around the corner now.
  7. Thank you hun. My LRD is 800 calories I deffo wouldn't be doing it early if it was liquid only. what date is your op x

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Good luck, you can do this! My liquid diet starts on the 21st. I’ve been trying to ease my way into it. Making small changes and reducing my calorie intake each week before it starts. That way it’s not such a shock to my system. I wouldn’t want to do the actual diet for more than 2 weeks though. That is going to be so hard in itself. Looking forward to hearing how you do. My surgery is just a few days after yours.

    Weight loss after surgery

Wonderful progress! How much did you lose in 3 months before surgery? Losses in excess of 4lb per week won't be just fat loss and "stalls" while eating below replacement calories are stalls of weight and not fat loss. Scales are evil. Just my 2c.

    Wendy’s salads

I haven't tried their salads but I definitely recommend the prepackaged "Good and Gather" salads at Target, there are a ton of different ones and all relatively low calories and very filling. I'm partial to the Chicken Caesar salad and the Asian Fusion, and my wife likes the Chef salad and the Chicken and Bacon Ranch salad.

    Wendy’s salads

I was looking at the calories for the ceasar and thought it looked like less than typical (440). At one year out, If it has a lot of protein it works for me as my main meal of the day. The taco salad wouldn’t but I probably wouldn’t like it anyways after getting used to lean beef most beef is greasy to me.

    Wendy’s salads

They have great salads but beware the calories.....

    Nuclear Stress Test

I had their market salad yesterday with the recommended apple cider vinaigrette dressing. Only 540 calories 28 grams of protein and that’s with all the toppings (granola, almonds and that whole packet of dressing which I only needed half of cause I don’t eat half the lettuce) anyways It was really good. And I tried the diet lemonade because of this thread lol.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Hey. I had my surgery in Sept too. My weight loss has slowed quite a bit and at one point it stalled. What I found is that even though I didn't think I was, I was eating more than I had been and drinking more. My body had finally gotten used to the new stomach and I think adjusted itself. So I went back to the basics.... Making sure I had the correct portion sizes, weighing my food/snacks, drinking zero calorie drinks,I also added in weight lifting. Everytime I hit what I think is going to turn into a stall I retrace my steps and also add just a little (and I mean a little) more activity/exercise into my routine. I also make sure that if I'm only going to eat a little it's protein. Also, I remind myself that I'm trying to maintain my muscle and build more while losing fat so if I've lost a lot of fat since surgery it makes sense that the further out I go, the less there is to loose and the longer maybe harder it will take. You will get out of your stalls I promise!

    Nuclear Stress Test

Omg they are sooo good! I dip them in buffalo sauce and then a tiny bit or ranch. Lower calories that way. But the Chick Fil A sauce is really good too.
  16. I agree with @MiniGastricBypassDude and @catwoman7 my program is a balanced diet of all food groups once you get through the post-op stages and onto "normal eating". They only stress protein first then veggies and then if you have room you can have carbs/fruits. I believe each program has their own suggestions and I am sure have their reasons. There are tons of way to loose weight but when it comes down to it, it is the calorie deficient that allows you to loose weight.
  17. Todays salad: 343 calories. Cabbage is another food item that tends to fill me up quick, so I tapped out earlier than usual. Will def eat the rest later. P.S. I find I tend to eat my meals form one side of the plate/bowl to the other, in anticipation of having to take a “nice-looking” after pic, lol. Extra, I know 😂
  18. Two months out from surgery I'd lost just under 30 lbs (does not include what I lost pre op) and I am significantly heavier than you. I think you are doing great. I know we all come out of surgery wanting weight to just disappear instantaneously, but that's not how it works. Have you connected with your program in terms of where you are with calories, protein, etc? If you are exercising a lot, you may also need to consult with them on their preferred protein and calorie intake while doing intense exercise. Mine advises to increase calories when engaging in intense exercise. I'm not low carb, because my program doesn't emphasize it (they push balanced eating, though obviously protein is the preference at all times).

Working out and eating too much

I'm definitely hungrier when I've been doing intense exercise - and Crossfit is intense! Your body is burning up a ton of calories with that - so you'll have to find the balance where your body is getting what it needs - and you continue to lose weight. I agree with the person who suggested you have a chat with your dietitian. I don't think 1600-1700/cal a day for someone doing CrossFit 4x a week is too much, though. Are you still losing weight? If so, this may not be a problem. But talk with your dietitian.

Working out and eating too much

Look into the BMR calculator and TDEE calculator. I feel that they're very insightful at this stage when you start exercising. BMR tells you how many calories your body uses at rest, and TDEE tells you how many calories your body uses at the specific energy level that you expend (exercise). These calculations help you to determine where you should be as far as caloric intake is concerned. Best wishes!

Working out and eating too much

Your body will need more sustenance to maintain your exercise levels, you will need to eat more. The balance will be how much more. If you aren't losing weight eat a little less than 1600cals and keep adjusting down. There may be a pause on weight loss at the moment which is not related to weight gain due to additional calories, but if your muscles are really sore after each workout, your body is very likely retaining fluid to help repair the muscles. If you are really sore you may also be building lean body mass but this wouldn't be happening as fast you'd think it would and hopefully you are losing body fat at the same time.

Working out and eating too much

Aah. The awful truth about exercising. The more you do the hungrier you feel as your body tries to replace the energy you burnt while exercising. Athletes eat carbs to boost their energy because it burns quickly but we’re advised to avoid carbs while losing. Have a chat with your dietician & see if there is a way to tweak your current eating plan to compensate without adding too many calories. I was allowed rolled oats from purée as a low processed, more nutritious, more filling, whole grain. Maybe that’s a option for you. At least the exercise helps keep your metabolism running efficiently. PS. Congrats on your weight loss so far.
  23. Hi all, I’m six months post VSG and 85 pounds down. I started working out (CrossFit 4x a week) about three weeks ago and find myself STARVING during the day and eating too much (about 1600-1700 calories) not sure if anyone else has had a similar experience when starting exercise. Lmk!

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello, I am on the pre-op diet now. My team allows 4 shakes a day plus a very small list of foods and their serving sizes I am allowed to eat. So I am living off of protein shakes, yogurt, sugar free pudding, unsweetened applesauce and fresh veggies. 800-900 calories a day I have not really been hungry but I am tired of eating the same thing all day every day. It has been much easier than I ever expected from other people's stories. Good luck to you! My surgery is the 21st!

Anxiety about calories in pureed food

I'm so ridiculous lol I felt so bad and anxious and then my dietician said in between 650-800 calories right now depending on how much I can eat in my current stage. I ran down with her what im eating and she said im doing really well and to keep on trekking. I am working on not moralizing food and calories and not letting either of them make me feel inferior or bad. It's good to know though I'm not doing anything abnormal and fairing well.
