    Just threw up my multivitamin

I'm sorry the Vitamins made you throw up. I also have to be very careful about which Multivitamins I take because many will make me sick, or cause an acne breakout. The Vitamin I've repurchased the most since having the VSG is the Flintstones Complete with Iron. In the immediate weeks following surgery I couldn't stand the taste, and switched to Vitamin Code for Women by Garden of Life. It never caused me to throw up, but would make me a tad bit nauseous if I didn't have it with food. I found that taking it with a smoothie worked best. I then tried the Vitamin patch, but it caused a skin irritation. At around the three month mark I decided to try Flintstones again since I still had it in my pantry and had run out of the other vitamins. By that point my tastebuds had settled down, so it was perfectly fine. I've mainly stuck with it ever since because it's readily available, can be taken with or without food and Water, has never caused any negative side effects, and has gotten the job done. My lab results have been excellent. I also take Vitamin D3 and Peppermint Oil capsules (for PCOS).

    New Knee Pain

This is interesting! I've never had knee pain and now suddenly after loosing 40 lbs they're starting to hurt. I have to say it's an unexpected development, but as always it's nice to know I'm not alone.

    Thigh Lift

I haven't had it yet, but I'm scheduled for 2/15. I've heard that before, about the scar drifting downward. But, I'd rather have a scar on the upper inner thigh than that crepey skin! Tami
  8. Hi, I wanted to tell that one of the teachers had polyps in her colon. She had them removed and she is doing great. It wasn't a big deal. The main thing was to have them removed before they tearned into something else. I have always been over weight ;but not always morbidly obesse. I'm going through True Results in Houston. There are four doctors with this company. I'm worried about the 5 year history. My BMI is forty althoug many people say I don't look it. Back in 03 my BMI was only thirty. It started to go up over the years. I had a baby on Valentines Day FEB 14th. 2007. I had a c-section so I hope that does not effect me. I was 205 pounds before the baby. The funny part is that I'm only 5'3 at 237 pounds. In the past I would tell people that I was 5'5. I think my doctors may have 5'5 on the records. My grandfather argued with me and told me that I was shorter than 5'5. I was short but didn't realize it because I always wore shoes with high heels. He measured my height with his tape measure and I was in shock. I cried! I cant' believe I weigh that much at 5'3. I do not have any co-morbities but I have struggled with weight all of my life. I have researched and read the book Lapband for Life three times. I'm ready to use this as a tool and start a new beginning. I'm currently sperated from my husband and it's still going downhill. I think it's for the best. Anyway I'm ready!!! The center True Results does everything for you. They will also do the 6 month supervised diet. Questions 1. Do you think that I have a good chance of being approved? 2. Do you have to be morbid obesse for all five years? 3. Do you think having the baby will affect me? I forgot to tell you that my beautiful son Dillon was a suprise. I was actually trying to loose weight with taking the b-12 shot and diet pills. They were putting something in the shot; some fertility stuff to help you loose inches. I got pregnant fast. I don't regret it I love my son very much! 4. How long did the process take? 5. Did they cover all of the expenses for your surgery? Let me know how things turn out with you Joy

    Hypertrophic scars

Ok, as someone who has had lots of surgeries, and lots of tattoos ... LOTION LOTION LOTION To quote one of my favorite movies of all time "it will put lotion on or it will get the hose" I have that quote written in scroll work (I am weird) on the back splash in my bathroom were my lotion is kept. I am a fanatic about lotion and stuff. I have no pregnancy stretch marks (freaky considering I am over 200 but I have stretch marks from being fat .. HAH go figure) Due in part to Extra Extra Virgin Olive oil. I still do that one a week, I heat it up (just above normal body temperature) and put on just a light light light bit of it and then take a hot milk bath. After its all said and done, I make sure I put on lotion, non scented, and my skin is amazingly soft. Its my weekly sanity break. LOL

    What did you wear?

I wore a loose-fitting warm-up suit but mine was just day surgery. I still can't wear tight-waisted pants, so keep lots of warm-ups handy! You'll probably live in your PJ's for the first couple of days. I was advised to be sure I took some chapstick to the hospital, because after surgery your lips will be very dry. I was thankful for that advice!! Good luck to you, and keep us posted on your progress.

  13. I am going for my consult in 2 weeks and am curious to find more information about the excess skin and port. Is there anyone who didn't need surgery to remove excess skin? I have about 100 pounds to lose and am worried that even if I lose it I'll still need surgery to remove the skin. And the port....how much restriction does that put on your daily living? Anything that you can't do that you could do before? My husband is a little freaked out about that. Thanks for any and all input! Carol

    Phentermine...

Hello, I did try it for a few months and I did have energy if you want to call it that,,,,it actually made me feel very anxious and wired. I did loose a little weight with it but not very much. I gave up because I did not like the way it made me feel. I too am on a 6 month diet trying to get an approval. Good luck and hoping for the best. :-)

    Any Pre-Op Cheaters?

My dear fellow pre-op cheater, I couldn't stay on the liquid diet either. My pre surgery weight was 446. So if I could stick to diets I wouldn't have had the band! I did some research and the over all deal is high Protein and low carb and low fat. That diet yielded me loosing 16 lbs in 7 days. If you need to eat a little, eat A little I say, but Heck, I'm no doctor. I was worried cause I cheated, but I still lost. Good luck.
  16. Found out medicare may pay for "skin amputation" in the stomach area. This is not a tuck, but just removal of the skin so the general surgeon can get in to repair the hernia, but nothing for under arm flab or around the back where I must have about a 2 inch roll. Won't do anything until after Aug 1 though as I have a short trip planned and don't want to be healing from this surgery as it is much worse than the WLS.

    Lap Band vs Sleeve

I initially wanted the band because it's reversible and seems less scary than having part of my stomach removed. However, my surgeon talked me out of it. He said he barely does a handful a year and that he spends lots of time doing band revisions and removals. Apparently, a lot of people have had to change from the band to the sleeve. There are a lot of complications like band slippage. With the sleeve, you also don't have to get adjustments or worry about as many follow up appointments. Also, it can restrict your ability to eat healthy foods like raw vegetables and chicken, but then things like ice cream slide very easily down. For me, the main thing that freaked me out was having this foreign object in my body. I read on the internet about people who can see or feel their port through their skin and I didn't like the idea. I think you should talk to your surgeon and do as much research as possible. My surgeon did say that for someone with a lot of weight to lose, the sleeve is better. However, if you don't have much weight to lose then maybe the band could be for you (or you might consider the laparoscopic balloon or another alternative).
  18. I had my surgery on 4/30 (3 wks today)! Honestly, it was not bad at all, the pain only lasted about 3 days like glorybee said. Keep on time with the pain meds, and its tolerable. As far as sagging skin (which freaked me out too), I finally thought either way banded or not, I must loose this weight and my skin will sag. The only way for it not to sag is stay fat. And the liquid diet is not too horrible, the 1st few days you don't want much anyway. Sugar Free popsicles really help & the protien shakes are not so bad, I have one every morning with 1% milk (I think they are gross with water) and it gets my day going and helps curb my apetite for the day. keep in mind how many weeks/months/years have passed you by and how fast they have gone. A few weeks of getting used to your band are nothing!! Time truly does fly! You will do wonderful! good luck!

    Worried

My Dad doesnt know yet and my Mom is totally unsupportive. She says you lost 80 lbs on Nutrisystem last year and put it all back on. What about this?? 10 years from now you say the band will probably fail by then per stats, are you going to have to get these fills for the rest of your life? My mom has to force herself to eat and weighs less than 100 lbs. My Dad got down to 136 lbs, he couldnt force himself to eat and we had to put him on a feeding tube. Both have prided themselves on being so thin and make really awful comments about fat people. If I say anything she says "cant I have an opinion?" I have a slow sister I told her tonight was discussing someone at the Center and making comments about their weight (who weighed less than I do). I told my mom and instead of recognizing that this is wrong, she launched into how upset she is my sister put on 15 lbs. My 5 7 sister is all of 130 lbs or so. My support system is nil. I have no one to lean on who understands. My mom says why not just do nutrisystem again? Last time my Dad almost died twice and I had to feed my sister and was dropping in at fast food places and at the rehab where I couldnt eat right and then I broke my shoulder. She says today, well you just admitted you put on the weight when things got stressfull, Im just not convinced this is needed. Someone who doesnt care about food or like it cant understand someone like me who loves to eat and long term facing tempations. Iv yo yo'ed so many times my skin is all stretched out and I already know I will never look good again, even if I lose the weight and keep it off. But I still need to lose the weight or its going to kill me. I wouldnt know what to do with a supportive family.

  21. For those of you that have undergone surgery and/or are still thinking about it, what are the top things that would come to mind (whether legitimate or not) that caused you to hold off on making the final and ultimate commitment to proceed? For me in prior years it has been the following (and please note that I'm not saying these are logical or rationale concerns and many are excuses...there is no right/wrong answer here). Assume that there are NO insurance/financial concerns. Also, some of the concerns/thoughts listed are still true for me today (namely #8, #5, etc.) 1) Oh Dear God, they slice away chunks of my stomach (bypass & sleeve) and it is not reversible (in case of the sleeve) 2) Surely instead of going 'under the knife' and the risks it will involve, I can commit to FINALLY losing the weight on my own once and for all 3) I'll never get to enjoy/eat 'XYZ' again OR I can only eat 2 TBSP's of 'XYZ' if I do this (rationale side says why wouldn't 2 TBSP's be enjoyable and also that food is 'fuel' not 'sport') 4) I'll never be able to have a drink again (FYI - I RARELY drink so this was kinda silly for me, but it was a thought) 5) What if something goes terribly wrong (often tied up with the thought 'what if I die') 6) The process takes so long, there is 'too much' I have to do...see multiple doctors, lose weight before, yada, yada, yada 7) What will I do with all of the loose skin (this one makes me snort out loud...don't ask me why I thought having 'loose skin' as opposed to 'fat filled skin' was an issue) 8) The side effects/issues related - dumping, malabsorption (sp?), etc. 9) My family/friends/coworkers thinks it's crazy risk...or crazy idea...or that I'm just too 'lazy' to actually "work at it" (and part of me used to be mad at myself for having to consider 'resorting to such drastic measures') 10) Regarding sleeve - keep reading we don't have history on the gastric sleeve like we do on gastric bypass, what IF something really bad shows up over time that we don't know now?
  22. Ok, I was banded on 4-17-06. I am feeling fine..... But everyday my skin is getting more and more irritated, just around the staples. My next appointment is Friday the 28th. My Dr. is 2 and a half hours away so I can't just go and let him look at it. I need a nurses opinion or something. I know most of you are going to say, check with your Dr. I know and I will. But I need to know if I am over reacting or what. So look at the pictures and please post or email me. I am going to see if my Dr. will let me email them some pictures before I have to drive for nothing. If it is nothing. I know that my ears do the same thing when I wear earrings, unless they are 14 or 18 ct. gold. (I hate gold) I am scared that they will get infected and then my incisions will get infected too. I am so worried and I am crying while I write this. I paid 15,000 for this and I am so scared that I will have to pay more to get it out. ok, ok, ok. sorry. Please just give me some advice. dsgreen@htcnet.net

    Lap Band vs Gastric Bypass

Ditto ^ Also, I like that this process is slower and you have the time to exercise and tighten your skin so you don't have the excess flab there. That was very important. I also loved that it's removeable and the fact that it seems less dangerous than the Gastric Bypass.. Thinking of them taking out a piece of my stomach and rearranging my insides... uh no thanks!
  24. It's a gorgeous day in Philly. I am one week away from my band to sleeve revision with Dr. Aceves. I've been calling all my close friends (one at a time) to tell them about my decision to have this procedure. I am blessed they have been so supportive. Being 130 pounds overweight is killing me. Just getting out of a low chair or having to walk long distances is a struggle. Last October I lead a team of women on the 3 day, 60 mile walk for Susan G. Komen.. I trained like a crazy woman since I was so fat and was worried that I couldn't do it. We raised a ton of money...the walk was only 1 day becuase Philly had horrible weather...so I walked 17 miles one day....I was fat...but felt strong. Today...I walked 7 blocks to my office from home and was sweating and winded when I got here. I've gained 30 pounds in the past 6 months and it feels like a 1000. I know that I am not meant to live a diminished life. I am having this surgery becuase I hear the clock ticking on my own mortality. Fears of loose skin and a sagging face do haunt me....but not as much as dying the death of person who is morbidly obese.

    "Pre-Op"...BOY was I wrong!

I knew that to loose weight I would have to learn not to let other things rule my life. My advice to you is stop... just stop. No gum, sprays or gimics. Look at yourself in the mirror and decide what you want. Being healthy is not just loosing weight. I have been done with the smokes for 1 year as of yesterday. I was a smoker from 13 to 36 up to two packs a day. I have 3 kids and every time i found out i had a life inside of me i quit only to start up again. This time I had decided that if i was going to get healthy weight wise I had to work from the inside out. I tossed my smokes and never looked back. Sure it was hard and it SUCKED putting myself into situations I KNEW would make it hard. Going to the bar and having a few drinks with my friends, camping, Sci Fi conventions and for an entire year I refused to give in. A year later I feel like a million bucks and quitting smoking has lit the fire that is allowing me to let nothing stop me when it comes to my weight.
