Over night stay at hospital. Yay or nay
catwoman7 replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
when I had surgery seven years ago, sleeve patients generally stayed one night and bypass patients two nights. I think one night for both types is common now, unless there's an issue. I have heard of people going home the same day, but not very often. Honestly, I'd rather be in the hospital at least one night in case something weird happened. P.S. I had very little pain at all (just some nausea the first night), but I'm still glad I was at the hospital in case something happened (it didn't...but it was reassuring to know I was there in case something HAD happened) WLS is pretty major surgery... -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Good luck to all the upcoming bypasses and sleevers! Thinking of all of you and wishing you the best! 🤗❤️ -
They've said they have it loose to avoid complications. I had mine tight for 13 years and it didn't help me lose a single lb. In my opinion they're nonsense things. And to answer the OPs query, biased as I am, I'd do what I did a couple months ago: whip it out and revise to a bypass which has the added benefit of actually working.

Hi I'm new here too I'm having a gastric bypass on the 27th of April I'm excited and nervous at the same time I've already lost 10 kilos on my own since December last year but that's about all I could do on my own hoping is surgery will kickstart me and help me keep it off. Wish you all luck with your surgeries as well🤞😊👍

Hi everyone I'm Merill🖐️ I've just joined your blog, I'm due to have gastric bypass on the 27th of April, I weigh at a 100 kilos atm, hoping to gain some Insight and knowledge and share my own experiences with other people who have gone through the same - have so many questions racing in my head lol. Pls wish me luck 🤞😊

Thank you so much for sharing Tina, I totally agree, people are very uneducated about weight loss, you are absolutely right! I will look into this book for sure, as I really want this to work🙏❤️

Hi Merill! I am Debber. I just joined this blog today. I am scheduled to have gastric bypass on April 27th, as well. As the date approaches, I've gotten a little anxious, but looking forward to it, too. Here's to a successful surgery and journey for us!

Hi Debber,
Firstly congratulations you're on your upcoming surgery which is not far off! 🥳🥳
Unfortunately my scheduled date has been postponed due to covid cases taking up all the beds in the hospital and I've been told either May 2nd or the 16th even those days aren't guaranteed at this time! it all depends on the availability of the beds.
Oh well I look at it from a glass half full side, I'm a believer that everything happens for a reason, better late than never! Good luck on your surgery and please keep me updated as I will be following you😊
All the best🤞🙏😊

I prefer protein powder over ready-to-drink shakes, and powder tends to be less expensive. My favorite brand of protein powder is Ideal Lean, but it is really a matter of personal taste. For ready-to-drink shakes, Equate brand is pretty much the same as Premier Protein but priced much lower. I am almost 2 years out now and I no longer drink protein shakes. I get plenty of protein from food, and I'd rather eat food than drink a protein shake. It is really important to budget for what you'll need post-op, and don't forget about vitamins. The best value in bariatric vitamins is the BariatricPal brand multivitamin, which is $99.99/year for a subscription (I recommend you buy a smaller bottle first and make sure you like them before you subscribe; also, you'll probably need chewables for the first few months after surgery). Depending on your program/bloodwork, you may need additional vitamins (I take calcium, chelated iron, vitamin B-12, vitamin D, and biotin in addition to the multivitamin, and I also use pre-workout and essential amino acid supplements). Vitamins are super important for gastric bypass patients, so you have to make sure you're prepared to buy them before you have the surgery. In the early post-op stages, I was eating so little that the costs balanced out. Now that I'm eating regular food and larger portions, though, I am spending a lot more on food than I was before surgery, even though I'm eating less. I used to shop sales and buy cheap food. Things like chips, crackers, cookies, candy, frozen meals and snacks, baking ingredients (sugar, flour, oil, butter), etc., can be very inexpensive when you buy them on sale. Now, I buy a lot of fresh produce, meat, fish, herbs, and spices, plus some healthier substitutions (sugar-free sweeteners, protein bars, low-calorie salad dressing, sugar-free condiments, olive/avocado oil, coconut flour, etc.) and prioritize health and taste over price. I'm sure I could spend less and still eat healthy if I really needed to, but I have invested so much into this surgery and losing weight that I'm willing to spend more money on food that helps me stick to my plan.

Question about hair loss after sleeve
GreenTealael replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved in 2017 then bypassed in 2019: I’ve only had very minor shedding near my temples but I could just be lucky. I also did I a lot of research and consulted my dermatologist about the issue because I really didn’t want to experience significant hair loss. I relied on the LLysine and Iron studies the most to guide my decisions on which supplements to take. Good Luck ❤️ -
hello & welcome! My husband and I are getting the bypass too. We have all our clearances finished and now are just waiting on a date. I have requested for us to have surgery the same day or close to it. We are in our 50's and are empty-nesters. Our adult twins will come to help us in the first week after surgery. It's so exciting to be doing this with my husband - it's brought us closer really - having a common goal. Good luck to you both!

Question about hair loss after sleeve
catwoman7 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had bypass, but the hair loss issue is the same since it's due to trauma to the body (from the surgery) and the super low number of calories we're eating the first few months. it's pretty rare for it to fall out in clumps. It's usually just shedding. And not everyone loses hair. I lost a little, but not enough for anyone to notice. In fact for most of us, we're the only ones who notice it. the jury is out on biotin. Some people say it helps, others say it did nothing at all. Honestly, I'd focus on making sure you're meeting your supplement and protein requirements so it's not any worse than it would be otherwise. Mine lasted from months 5-9. it grows back. I think i can speak for those of us a ways out in that in the grand scheme of things, the hair loss is a blip on the screen and is a small price to pay for being able to lose all that weight. -
BMI & weight loss before surgery
hollywrites2u replied to hollywrites2u's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for the reply, Liz. I can't do self pay with my current financials. I didn't even think about it but it's a lapband removal so BMI likely doesn't matter. I want to get a gastric bypass but that's down the road. My approval isn't 100% locked down. The insurance coordinator is contacting my insurance companies. She said they've received approval for my insurance even though the HR dept. at work said they don't cover bariatrics. The surgeon said if my insurance tries to wiggle out from paying then I may well end up in the emergency room and he would do the surgery there & it will cost them even more. Had lap band unfilled due to not being able to keep food or drinks down
Guest replied to KayG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to have 14 years of restriction without any hormonal help from bariatric surgery. The American standard take here is pray to god, never drink alcohol, suffer on Optifast, and why not try keto? The global take is: - Get that band out, ASAP - Get a surgery that helps you - that would be any surgery that involves a bypass (RNY, MGB, DS) - Know that your deserve a life free from obesity Let me know if you need any insights. Feel free to DM, and feel free to ignore any takes involving Optifast. -
All surgeons are different. Mine encouraged me to 80-100 grams of protein a day. I had a Gastric Bypass [emoji1745] Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using BariatricPal mobile app

Major Meta Study: Mini Gastric Bypass as revision after Sleeve/Band is highly effective
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What is the difference between the MGB and a "regular" bypass? I've never heard of the mini before. -
My surgeon said in general, sleeve patients lost about 10% less weight than gastric bypass. But he also said that's the average. He said he has seen patients who are really motivated and disciplined actually lost the same or even a little more. Depends a lot on the person.

Recent bypass surgery. Wanting to incorporate the keto ways into it. ANY IDEAS.? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm hoping we can! With the amount I have to lose, I would be interested in the bypass but I have Crohn's Disease and my surgeon wanted to do the sleeve.

March 2022 Surgery Buddies
Flab-U-Less Forever replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was on 3/3/21 (bypass) I am on regular foods except for tough/stringy meat, raw veggies, breads/rice/pasta, candy and fruits with skins. I am doing ok so far. Protein seems to have a weird/bland-like taste that I am not enjoying so some days I am having a hard time getting my 60+ gms in. Most days I just don't feel like eating...it has become a chore to do so. I have lost a total of 31 lbs (12 with the pre op diet and 19 post op) so I am loving that! Just wish food tasted better! I am happy to report that with the weight loss my feet don't scream at me when I get out of bed in the morning 😁 -
Ok, so my husband started a remote job in Oklahoma where we live. The job is based in California. They are going to get us set up with Anthem-BCBS, somehow, although Anthem doesn't show that coverage is here. I guess my question is has anyone been in my situation? How will it go as far as getting approved for Gastric Bypass? Thanks! Malinda
-
Hey there! Very excited to meet you and hear how it goes for all of us. Do you think we can lose as much weight with the sleeve as those with bypass?
-

I had lap-band 13 years ago, I lost 100 pounds, but gained it all back and struggled with frequent vomiting and severe reflux. Even with the band deflated. My surgeon told me they don't do lap-band for people who need to lose as much as I did anymore. I weighed 375 at surgery and weigh 404 now. The lap-band became a nightmare. The band slipped, I developed severe GERD, Barrett's esophagus, recurring aspiration pneumonia and hiatal hernia. My band was removed in January and I feel so much better, but I'm in the pre-surgical program to have gastric bypass. I'm super-excited for the bypass surgery. That's really what I wanted to begin with but my Mom and my ex-husband thought it was too dangerous... so here I am. I have a new, very supportive husband! 😍 And my Mom, who is a nurse, has seen a lot more people with success after surgery so she's on board too! Either way, I'm doing this for me!!!
