Clear Liquid Diet: Day 1
paramedic replied to missvee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok all I'm on day 5 and I cheated - I am only allowed 4 Optifast things a day. I was desperate so I ate one Greek yogurt and had made chicken broth and out a egg in it like egg drop Soup. I figured egg not bad and yogurt only 80 caps and good for digestion - speaking of this - anyone else having the um bathroom issue (running to the bathroom- no pun intended ) it's gonna be a rough 9 more days - the family brought home pizza - smelled great - so they all laughed that I fed the cat and sniffed the cat food... Smelled bad and took mind off pizza Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Just a random thought and I haven't had the chance to ask my surgeon yet but has anyone had the depo shot and has had the surgery?? I know they say depo shot makes you gain weight so I'm just wondering or more so curious if you are on BC has it hindered your weight loss? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have Highmark BC/BS...and they didn't require me to do the 6 month diet, etc. As long as your physician sets forth why you need it, it should be approved. Yes, we quoted the same reasons from the policy you posted! However, at first I was denied, but my Dr. Did a peer to peer consultation and it was approved immediately. Keeping It in Perspective: Has WLS Made You More Patient?
Pescador replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Nope, made me angry and less tolerant of BS. I am just fine, don't mess with me. Life is short. -
I've had Braggs cider vinegar. I tried the "shot each day" thing for a bottle. It was pre-op and didn't counteract the bs eating I was doing. I haven't resumed it post op. I work with a guy who preaches about cider vinegar like it's the Gospel. Me......I just rely on it for my homemade bbq sauce, lol.

Help! Headache in preop diet!
bitingcat replied to dccarite's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure which diet you're on, but super low carb can result in "Keto flu". I don't have a fat restriction on my pre-op diet and found that good fats + grey Celtic sea salt really helped me. Like, coconut oil and a pinch of salt in my shake. Or just a grass-fed burger with no bun. My headaches got better when I flipped into full ketosis around day 4. Any October 2016 Sleevers?
dccarite replied to bkskinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 2 as well... Wicked awful headache yesterday. But it was better today I think bc i doubled my Water. I woke up and had a 8oz of water that helped immediately. I've been really nauseas today though. It's tough getting the Protein down Sent from my LGLS770 using the BariatricPal App -
On that note, both my obgyn and surgeon said my Depo shot was fine. I know. It's an icky form of BC for a lot of people, and I have gained weight. It may slow my weight loss... but I have two kids while on the pill with pcos. I'm fertile Myrtle, man. I can't go without it. Period. Anyway, hopefully next year I'll be getting my tubes tied. All I'm saying is that it may be worth it in the short term to look into it as birth control. Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

No the ER only ever gave me fluids and sent me home. My doctor was the one who would always admit me. It's very weird bc I was doing well for a week or so and all of a sudden today I feel as if my structure is back. I threw up all day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@@KristenLe I honestly think this is a prank... If it's not, it really doesn't even merit a response at this point. If the OP didn't care enough to read her post op instructions or listen to her NUT, then I don't care enough to offer a response. For people with honest, heartfelt questions, I will give all my time. For posts like this, well, it's just a waste. I'm excited for you to finally get sleeved - bc you are an EXPERT at this point and are going to be so successful!! I bought vitaleph products. Hated their shakes. If you like them, I'll mail you mine. I also used the first month of their Vitamin package, which was great bc I knew I was getting what I was supposed to. After the first month when I knew the majority of my healing was done & I felt safe tO move to over the counter Vitamins, I started using Flintstones Complete 2p/ day. chewable Align Probiotics, liquid B-12/Folic Acid from health store, and calcium/vit D chews. I'll let you know how my bloodwork comes back. Have appointment on Monday to check it. Oh, and I drink Premier Protein drinks...pre op, post op, probably forever lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sorry, another woman crashing the guys' room. Yes - I can relate, Alfred Day, and I also feel much the same as KristenLe. I'm single and live with my young son, but have a boyfriend (not live in....that's what I mean by single). I booked my surgery for when he would be about 8,000 miles away, literally, because that's how much I hate having people around when I'm in pain. (I had my son stay with his dad that weekend bc I didn't want him to worry, and I didn't want to worry about taking care of him). If you live in a city you should be able to get everything delivered, and if not, then yes, you should be able to get your prescriptions in advance. Since you've had other surgeries, then this recovery shouldn't be all that different. I agree with previous posters that it's good to have people checking in by text or FaceTime or whatever. And even a casual friend should be able to bring you home from the hospital without your having to deviate much from the Guy Code of Independence. It's just a fact of adult life. Good luck to you!! Approved and got my date! November 14th!
Original Poster posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been doing the standard insurance required hoop jumping since June... I have Humana National POS, which required 1 nutrition visit with an RD, and 3 additional weight loss visits. My plan stated the 3 WL visits could be done with an MD, NP, PA, CNM/OB, or RD. My surgeon's office employees an RD, so for convenience I stayed there. Luckily, I could do the nutrition visit and first WL visit on the same day. The ironic thing about these WL visits was that I couldn't lose weight bc the RD was afraid I would not be approved. My starting BMI was 41. I also had to have 9 labs (cbc, hgb a1c, H pylori, tsh, cmp, Vitamin D, iron/tibc, and lipids), an EKG, upper GI and psych eval. I finished my last RD visit on 9/16, was submitted to insurance on 9/20. They told me it would take ~ 2-4 weeks to receive approval, but I received word I was approved in less than 20 hours on the 21st!!! Couldn't believe it. The coordinator said my chart would then go to the finance manager and I'd hear from the surgery scheduler by the beginning of next week. Imagine my surprise when she called me less than 24 hours later! I just knew that I'd get a date someone in October since everything was going so quickly... I was pretty disappointed when she told me the earliest date I could have surgery was 11/14. Apparently, my surgeon usually does surgery at Emory most days, and only comes to my hospital once a month...October is already booked. Nonetheless, it's okay!! I'll just have a bit longer to lose as much as I can before surgery =) I've been quite the lurker and this is my first post. I'm usually pretty quiet =) Height 5'11" HW 301 CW 288 GW 165 Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App -

Weight gain post surgery. Help!

@@luli1690 Yes, that's correct. I had to come off my BC pills. You need to be careful pre-op and especially post-op to use another form of birth as it is very dangerous to get pregnant until at least a year post WLS. Fertility can be increased with weight loss.
-
It's most likely a hormone form of BC - it can increase risk of blood clots. You need to clarify with the Dr.

WLS with Fibromyalgia and Arthritis of Unknown Origin
Butterflywarrior replied to JenniferVSG2011's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
These posts are so for me. I'm 39, about to get sleeved next month and my biggest worry are my mystery autoimmune diseases and fibromyalgia. I have sooo many health issues and on about 18 meds. I am in major pain all the time since my single digits and I need morphine daily to make me just comfortable enough to manage my days. I'm very worried about the exercise components even though I am a swimmer which is good. I, also allergic to the sweetener as per tame. The dietitian is going to be doing the food class with me one on one bc of that and the diabetes. I have been looking for others like myself and really happy I found this post Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T807A using the BariatricPal App -
Frustrated beyond belief!
KristenLe replied to myfatisnotaflaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@myfatisnotaflaw The 3 lbs is from your period, Water retention and possibly constipation. I am pre-op but had to come of my bc pills for surgery. I got my period and gained 7 lbs in 2 days (7 fricken pounds!!!). I am already down 5 of those pounds. Don't be discouraged. You lost 14 lbs in a week - that's incredible. Your body needs to adjust. Be sure you are getting in all of your Protein and water, don't exercise too much until cleared (you don't want a hernia). Stay off the scale for now!!! You've got this - stay strong and positive!!! -
How have your taste buds changed?
gina171 replied to Leather'nLace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everything tastes sweeter to me now, and I suddenly cannot pick up ANY aftertaste from artificial sweeteners. It's a very nice change! I used to barely tolerate sugar free Jello bc I thought the aftertaste was so disgusting.....now, it tastes like a big bowl of sugar to me. The change happened literally overnight. I love it. Thought I had to do 6 month MSWL but apparently not?
gina171 replied to goaldigger33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happened to me too....2 different surgeon offices told me I had a mandatory 6 month wait bc I had United HealthCare. Turns out my employer fully funds their own health plan and makes their own rules, and required no wait....they just use United HealthCare to administer the plan, they just run and manage our paperwork. Had to ask the surgeon's office to pls pls call and check my plan specifics, and they were surprised to find I had no wait, even though I carry a United HealthCare card. I was able to have my surgery within 35 days of my first surgeon appointment. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
@@HopefulInVirginia With all due respect to the moron (which is NONE), f*&k him. You don't need that kind of bs in your life right now. Obesity is still something other people feel fine discriminating against and feel free talking to/about other people as though they're idiots if they're obese. I'd be willing to be you've spent more time, money and emotion on your weight than he's EVER had to put forth regarding HIS. Go and get your surgery and be proud of yourself. For caring about yourself, your family and the people who care about YOU. You'll soon be a healthier weight and along with it will come better self-esteem and a better head-space about yourself. You're growing and moving in a positive direction, people like your husband's co-worker aren't...they're stuck with their petty thoughts and ugly minds.
