  1. @@Elode I drink at a minimum 6-8 cups of Water a day. My yogurt is regular flavored greek yogurt, so I know it has sugar and fat in it (but it's like 4oz a day). My bowels are very regular (1-2 per day). Which is actually quite low for me since pre-op I was like 3-4 times per day. @@Babbs I will take your advice and stay off the scale. I almost teared up when I saw that gain. Lol. I'm going to save myself the anxiety and put it away for a few weeks. Lol

    Wasted Food?

Yes, it took me a while to figure it out, too. Now I portion out when I purchase things and if I open things like a can of tuna or a container of yogurt I make a note to myself that I'm going to eat that food item until it's gone, even if that means dinner is tomorrow's lunch, too. You'll get past this fairly quickly. Your ability to eat will increase to a more normal amount over the next few months and you'll find you waste less and less. If I'm not mindful when ordering when we eat out, I can still wind up with quite a bit of wasted food. It takes careful planning. ~Cheri

    Wasted Food?

Oh I don’t mean like I do a household shop and I toss half of it I mean things like say cream cheese I buy a pack of cream cheese for and over half of it has to be tossed out, or I buy good yogurts low cal/fat/sugar but it only comes in like a pint pot so over half of it gets thrown out that kind of thing. Although my mother when she makes dinner and tries to give me some has no idea of what I am saying when I say 2 bits of the chicken instead of 2 cubes of chicken I get a bowl full with veg and I look at her and say you need to get it in your head I can’t eat that much food your wasting it! Because I am lactose intolerant no one else but me will eat that cheese so that’s always getting thrown out, I just find a lot of waste even in the small amounts I am personally throwing out just wondered if anyone had ideas I haven’t thought of to curb this.

    Snack

that early out I'd be still sticking to nutritionally dense things. The Quest chips that the above poster mentioned would probably fill the chip craving. I used to eat a lot of Greek yogurt when I had a sweet craving - sometimes regular, sometimes Carbmaster or Light & Fit - not sure if you like yogurt or not, though. Or sugar free pudding or sugar free Jello - I used to sometimes mix some protein powder in with my sugar free pudding to bump up the protein. And I often put a dollop of light Cool Whip on my Jello. I didn't eat popcorn until I was over a year out since it wasn't on my plan, but you'll be surprised at how much of that a person can put away, even after surgery. That's not very nutritious, either - well, other than it has fiber.

Yea, I just got approved for the surgery

I'm 9 days out of surgery. I just ate 3 ounces of yogurt and then 45 min later pureed some chili and ate that. Am I messing things up? I need someone to talk too.

    Feeling guilty about eating

Thanks for the support. I eat healthy. I eat Greek yogurt no fat kind, protein shakes and chicken. I don't have control over portions as the sleeve really limits the amount. Its just that the weight isn't coming off so, I think I am doing something wrong. Then when I do eat it isn't a pleasant experience. I used to enjoy food. No more. Now it is only something I have to do and I don't really now how to feel about that. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hello Mushies!

It's been a while since I have blogged. I've been out of town and living in a hotel for the past week trying to finish up all of my clinical hours. Staying to pureed foods has been difficult, but the hotel I stayed in had a fridge and a microwave in the room, so that made things a bit easier. First couple days of being on my feet and seeing patients all day was super tiring, and I crashed as soon as I got back to the hotel. We have also had drug reps bringing us lunch every day and that has been a huge challenge. I've stayed under 1200 calories every day, averaging around 800-900, but those drug rep lunches just about killed me. I had brought my own food and everything, but I was just so darn sick of tomato soup, yogurt and jello. One day the rep brought boston market and I ended up eating a little less than a cup of stuffing (it was really soft and mushie). Some people in the clinic have noticed how small my servings are, but they accept my excuse of having been sick and trying to not eat too much to lose weight. I am going to go to the gym for the first time since before surgery today. I'll probably just try walking on the treadmill or something else easy. I can't wait to get back to spin class and to be able to ride my bike again! Still waiting to see the scale move down after my initial 15 lb loss....trying to be patient

    One week post op

I was sleeved Wednesday and had hunger pains within hours of surgery. For the first two days, it was almost constant. Even after I ate/drank, when I should have been full. So it made it hard to realize when I was actually full. But the hunger pains are lessening and now replaced by digestive pains. lol Have found my favorite meal is a flavored Greek yogurt with a scoop of unjury, a splash of milk and an ice cube in the blender. Alternately, a vanilla greek yogurt with Unjury, a squirt of Mio and ice is good too.
  12. I went to Italy 4 months post op too, twins! I had a lot of coffee, salads, nuts, cheese, yogurt, fruit with some pizza, gelato and pastries thrown in (surgeon said I could although I assumed I couldn’t) because… it was Italy. Pharmacies did have ready made and powder protein for shakes. I shopped at local markets a few times and made a meal of my own at a cooking class. I was limited by capacity so that was nice. I did try to be balanced but still have fun. Surprisingly food was not the fun I ultimately had. Good Luck and have fun ❤️

    Full Liquid Question

My doctor allowed yogurt as long as there were no chunks on full liquids. I also had a lot of cream of broccoli that I pureed so there were no solids, and cream of potato. I would steam more broccoli and cauliflower and add a little milk/broth to the soups and puree also sometimes... just thought it was more veggie nutrition.. it worked. Nothing ever came up for me.

    Protien Shakes

Well, I am a self-proclaimed Protein "snob" Many of the brands and flavors suggested by others often did not work for me. I have decided it is a personal preference. The ONLY one I can tolerate is UNflavored unjury. I add it to the Dole Shakers and Yogurt each day. One scoop is about 21 grams of protein. My lap band doctor carries this brand in his office; so, I don't have to pay for shipping. Good luck on your journey.

    Green Zone

I got a fill on Mon. taking me to 6cc and I think I have found it finally. I don't feel tight, but three or four forks of chicken and I am done. Also, I have started the last two days with a protein drink just to test the waters, greek yogurt for lunch and them light dinner. NO HUNGER all day. I have to eat slower (mistake I've made in the past), but it is just great for now.

    Discouraged. Slipped band.

First thing you have to do is stop the binging. Are you able to take time off work? That may help with doing the liquid diet. If you're able to lay around your house and not have to worry about anything it'll be easier to stick it out. If you want to save your band, I strongly advise you listen to your doctor. Remind yourself that it's just a week. I'm sure it feels good to binge but it's self-destructive behavior. Go to the store, stock up on protein shakes, broths, and yogurt smoothies and tough it out for 7 days. Then move on to mushies, and then try to eat your lap band diet the next week, and then see your doctor. Otherwise you're just going to go back to the way you were before. It's unfortunate for us but once you're obese your body will do whatever it takes to get that fat back. It's not a matter of pure willpower. That's why we needed help in the first place. But you can do 7 days. That's all it is. Just a week. Take it day by day and you'll get through it.

    Meal help needed!

Greek yogurt, turkey meatballs, turkey chilli, turkey burgers, tuna and egg salad (lowfat mayo) hard boiled eggs, hummus with veggies, canned chicken/salmon mix with dressing/mayo and veg, frozen proteins from trader Joe's, low sodium deli meats and cheeses rolled up.
  20. I am only 2 weeks post op and just started pureed foods yesterday. The thing they want us to focus on the first couple weeks is getting the liquids in. The protein will come along. When I was in the hosp I was instructed to drink one ounce of water every 15 min. while awake. Water hurt my stomach, esp. cold, so it was hard to get it in. I kept it in my mouth until Body temp and then swallowed. I did better with thicker things like yogurt, milk, cream soups. Popsicles were helpful too. Good Luck.

    Advice ?

I so feel for you. I was sleeved 2 weeks before you and have very few problems with eating. Have you tried cottage cheese? Not the nasty fat-free stuff, I eat the 4% cottage cheese. 1/2 a cup fills me up. Also, I can eat 4oz of sugar-free Greek yogurt mixed with sugar-free preserves and Splenda. If you are near a Boston Market, their chicken is moist and easy to eat. I get it with their mashed potatoes which are delish. Another thing I find easy to eat is about 1/2 of a cup of Panera Bread's broccoli cheese soup. You can also get a 2oz portion of their chicken, cut it into small pieces and drop it into the soup. Makes a really nice chicken broccoli cheesy casserole-like dish. Can you eat sugar-free Popsicles, or Edy's sugar-free juice bars? That will help get liquids in. Finally, have you seen your primary physician? Maybe they can refer you to a good nutritionist and post-op support program? Or, can you contact your insurance company? Mine assigned a nurse advocate to me for any problems like this ( which thankfully I haven't had). Good luck! Let us know if any of this is helpful.
  23. Breakfast coffe, wholewheat English muffin,2 tablespoons peanut butter lunch 1 cup Greek yogurt, berries, snack fudgcycle, supper 2 two ounce portobello mushroom veggie burgers, 1/2 a sweet potato, 1/2 cup salad. 1/4 cup good thins spinach parmesan crackers 5 calorie orange jello.
  24. I'm too afraid to stray from my doctor's orders. So if he says 2 weeks of Clear Liquids, I'm doing it. I learned that applesauce is a clear liquid. What if you have some of that. I'll tell you, I can only eat half of the little motts container, and I have to save the rest for another time. Last night I ate a little too much, and I felt uncomfortable, just overfull.. didn't like it. I think the object is we don't want to make our stomachs have to work too hard to digest. Right now it's healing. Maybe I'm just overly cautious, but I'm not even going to THINK about a yogurt or mashed potato until Sunday!! I am looking forward to my stage 2 for the variety! Also.. I found Crystal Light popsicles at walmart. sugar free, cold, like a treat, I eat 2 a day usually. If your'e doing popsicles, make sure they are sugar free. and watch the ones in the grocery store that say no sugar added, cause even they have sugar alcohols in them, and you don't want that. Good luck!
