Thanks for the photo comment! I am about 5'6" (the people with me in that pic are much shorter lol) and my starting weight was 280/size 22. My doctor had told me that 170 was a good target weight but now I'm at 160-165 (depending on what I eat that week) and I still need to tighten up some fatty areas. But I am excited and ecstatic with my weight loss and sometimes cannot believe my eyes either. Good luck with your journey!!

Hi Rose, Yes it has been a long time since I have been on here. Been very busy getting all my test done before the 19th of October when I got to NC to see my kids. All test are done but the last one was suppose to be today and I got sick and could not get it done. Waiting for a call from the doctor to see if I can get it done before the 19th which is only one week away. It really sucks I got so sick with this cold but was afraid if they put me a sleep I would not wake up. They were going down my throat and doing the other end. If that test was done and everything was ok, I would have had a date in December. Now, I am frustated but I am still dieting to make the doctor happy and lost over 10lbs which the first ten pounds is easy to loose because I have been there before.......LOL Have a good day and thank you for thinking of me. Now I am going to look at your post just to see how you are doing. Our friend Bklynike is doing great. I love to read about her progress also.

hi folks, I had my surgery Sep 24 in Sarnia. it went very well and I was home 6 hours after it started. First week went very well. Second week I ran into some muscles spasms in the left neck and shoulder that kept increasing in pain but I think that is pretty much done now.
I have followed the diet provided to me post op and I am happy to report no major hunger. I have to laugh at myself at how much I am enjoying Garden Cocktail vegie juice, jello, and cream soups right now. I think it is the flavors I am savouring. My home is tidier than normal because I keep getting up to walk around because of gas issues the first 2 weeks. All in all it is a win-win situtation.

How are you doing Marw? Things have been very well with me. I am trying to workout as much as possible and eat most of the right foods. I really have good restriction since my last fill a week ago. I have another appointment at the end of the month. I really don't know if I should get another fill right now. My doctor is very aggressive with giving his patients fills. I really do appreciate his attitude to giving his patients fills. Thanks again for checking up on me. How is your weight lost going. I am really losing more inches than anything at this point. Again thanks for checking in.

I got on the scale today...I don't like what I see, LOL. Didn't gain but didn't lose either. I know it'll take time before the weight starts to shed but I'm doing everything I'm supposed to. Maybe I'm still swollen? I hope so...let's see what the scale says on Thursday, one week post-op.

Reginap,
Thanks for stopping by my page. I want to make sure I address all of your questions and concerns. First of all, congrats on getting your new band. Your band is something you have to learn what works and don’t work for you. Every single person is totally different. We all have the same tool inside our bodies, but it works a little different for each person. From my experiences, your first couple of fills really doesn’t give you as much restriction as you really are hoping for. I have had three fills and this one gives me a lot more restriction than I have ever had before. I can really tell if I don’t take my time to chew my foods really well things appear to get hung up a lot more. That’s not a really pleasant feeling which causes a lot of pressure in my band area. page1

Howdy Lyla, how's it going? I was thinking about some easier way for us to communicate and encourage about our work out goals etc. One Idea I had was to just start a thread called september bandster work out encouragement- I don't have any other ideas but am open. My complaint with the pm's is that it is a pain to talk to you and missjoany at the same time and it's sort of clunky- of course the site is clunky - anyway open for ideas
also how are you doing, have you decided on your walk? tell me the website. I am starting slower then I was 2 weeks ago.

Hey Guys,
I'm down 2 more pounds. It has really gotten slow. I thought I had a doctor. appointment on Oct. 2, 2010, but somehow I got mixed up. I think the 2nd was actually on a Saturday.... I don't know how I did that! Anyway, I called today and was told that my appointment is actually on the 11th of Oct. I'm trying to decide on a gym today. Hopefully by the end of today, I will have my mind made up. Yesterday was my first time eating out since I had the surgery. My daughter has a German exchange student staying with us for 3 weeks and we took her out to Apple Bees lastnight. I didn't eat hardly anything because I had half bottle of a protein drink 2 hours prior to going so I really wasn't hungry. I am feeling that I may need a fill.

Hey Danielle!! My bmi was 37 as well, so right off the bat I had to have 6 months of observation. I had/have co-morbidities, which was the reason Health plus approved my surgery (Hip Arthritis and Sleep Apnea) I used (follow up with) Dr. Piotr Gorecki at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, and I absolutely LOVE him. the downside is that with Health-plus he can only be seen in the clinic on Wed & fri.
It took them about 2 weeks to approve the surgery, it had to be rescheduled because of a drs note that needed to be submitted, but it was only a 2 week difference (orig. may 7th, resched/ actual surgery may 21) If you want more info on him, Let me know

Thank you Cindy....Band slipped and apparently I had alot of scar tissue, so my Doc said to stay on liquids for 6 weeks. Next week I at least get do introduce pureed food, this week is all protein drinks. Toughest thing I've ever done in my life. I am married and my daughter who is 21 just moved back home...but they are both very supportive. I couldn't do this without them. Thank you for the prayers. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. ~Christy

Hi there. thanks for the compliment! I've lost 123 pounds and was banded a litte over 16 months ago. In the beginning I was exercising about 5-6 times per week, it slowed down to about 3-4 time but now I'm picking it back up again trying to drop these last 17 pounds to my goal.

Hey, WOW thanks for checking in...I'm good - Surgery went great, I've had one fill w/ 1cc so I have next to no restriction. But not gaining back too much. I go every 2 weeks for 1cc at a time. Frusterating but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. How long did it take till you saw major loss???

Thanks! Got through week one liquids -- hoping to make it through week 2 -- I am hungry tho -- keep up the healing and we'll get to the workouts in a few weeks.

Only three more days until you start your pre-op diet!
Enjoy your last days of freeeedom!
I had to change my surgery date to the 20th, because I got a new surgeon so I'm starting my diet on the 12th as well.

I THINK im doing okay. haha. I've lost almost 75 lbs since April. I can definitely tell a difference now. I had my second fill a couple weeks ago and its made all the difference, Before that i didnt really have to chew anything, and could eat whatever i wanted, just smaller portions. Now i have to chew the hell out of everything i eat and am very limited to what i can eat, For instance yesterday i ate 5 blueberries, a couple strawberries and half a sausage patty and i was done. couldnt eat another bite. overall its been pretty easy tho

The type of diet you are on was the diet I was given after surgery. I was on 2 weeks of liquids, sugar free drinks and so on. The main purpose for the post op diet is to shrink down your liver for your surgery. Just focus on the big picture and why you really want to be banded. Good luck, trust God and everything will work out just fine. page 2

Congrats on your up coming surgery. My post diet was a little different. I was not restricted to only liquids for 2 weeks before my surgery. There was a list of foods that I had to eat from. I was not allowed to eat sugar, white flour and only whole wheat products. I could not eat fruits that were high in sugar or carbs. I could only drink sugar free items and limited fruit juices. I was not allowed to eat fried meats only lean cut meats or fish. I could eat low starched veggies and almost anything thing green and leafy. It was okay for me to eat dark chocolate which I love. I was encouraged to drink lots of water, protein water, and anything sugar free even sodas which I don’t drink. page 1

I've had 10 surgeries in the last 2 years - from a bone spur in my big toe to a total knee replacement. In comparison, the band was a breeze. I suppose it helped to have docs that knew what they were doing and had done it many times, but after reading so many posts of people's horror stories, I was concerned.
Other than a sore throat (now gone) I have some soreness in my abdomen. Not unbearable and the pain meds are keeping it under control. No nausea, no shoulder pain and I sleep in any position I want to.
I have had restriction from the beginning. The doc added 4 cc to my 14 cc band during the installation. While doing the swallow test, I could see - and feel - the liquid pause in the pouch before entering the stomach. Very cool. I'm on a liquid diet for a week while it heals, and an 8 oz protein shake fills me up for several hours.
Overall, this has been a pleasant experience and I am looking forward to a "new" me.
Where are you?

I haven't been on in weeks. My insurance denied coverage and then denied the appeal. I am waiting for one more chance. It was denied based on me not going to a dr in 2008 and having my weight documented from that year. Even though I have been overweight my entire life and have had a BMI of over 40 for at least 15 years, it wasn't enough because I didn't have that one peice of documentation. I am bummed but am keeping my fingers crossed for my final appeal.
