Poor Blood Panel Results :(
Guest replied to simplysmile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh, that sucks! I can't help you with the specifics on the blood panel, but throw the feeling of being angry at yourself away. We do our best, we really do. Sometimes, it's not good, but it's our best in the situation we were in. You're doing something good for yourself now and you will get there. One thing, though: if diabetes is a concern, strongly consider any type of bypass surgery. Oh, and: I never understood why American doctors won't perform bariatric surgery on patients with high A1C levels when we know the best intervention for that is ... bariatric surgery. Nobody would ask someone with a broken arm to try and set it themselves first. -
I have decided to start the process of getting gastric bypass and my sister is doing the same thing and she has her surgery scheduled for beginning of May. I'm just struggling with the whole process! I feel guilty for being hungry and wanting to eat. Like physically hungry not just head hunger. And when I do eat I feel like it's never a healthy enough choice and I constantly hear my sister and the surgeons PA in the back of my head saying I'm not eating healthy enough, or I'm eating too much or not enough? This is what scares me about this whole process because I've tried losing weight in the past and I became SO OBSESSIVE with counting calories that I went days without eating. I just feel like I have no idea what I'm doing and that I'm doing everything wrong.....thanks for coming to my Ted Talk [emoji50][emoji100][emoji23] Sent from my SM-N980F using BariatricPal mobile app

lapband removed hoping to have bypass
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to cindyn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yeah Band to Bypass revision soon for me. I mean I don't know your medical history, but your age alone is no reason not to consider revision. I've seen older folks here on this forum than you getting wls for the first time and even revision. If you're starting to regain, definitely pursue revision. -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies
ocdennise replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m day 1 after surgery revision to gastric bypass. I was much less sore this time & been walking and siping my H20 & broth soup no problem. My surgeon already came by & they are discharging me! yay! Walking is key- gets everything moving, burps, gas, air, etc. I’ll start taking a stool softener later today just as a precaution. Good luck to you. Hope you feel better -
Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.
Guest replied to Donna zariya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It'll depend if you ask for the US view or the global view. US view = no. I was cleared for alcohol 28 days post-op. I have had a drink or a glass of wine weekly since. It hits a lot harder, but I have a significant bypass, not a sleeve, so it goes further down - faster - and I adjusted my amounts down accordingly. I'm in the 95th percentile for weight lost, was told to stop losing 10 lbs ago by my program, and have maintained a steady weight for four months now. Still drinking weekly. You need to have an honest talk with yourself about this. And by honest, I don't mean 'I can stick to one at this one thing' and then it goes off the rails. Really think about if you feel like you can manage it. If no, don't. If yes, well, have fun. -
lapband removed hoping to have bypass
liveaboard15 replied to cindyn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
tons of people in this group have gone from lapband to bypass with huge success.. -
I had my band removed in sept 2021. I had it since 2006. my weight has been slowly creeping up and up, I am finding myself in same situation I was when I went forward with the band. I am in process of requesting consult with my surgeon. I am not even sure if she will. I just turned 63. not sure if my insurance will even consider. Has anyone has success with lapband to bypass??

Hi redhead! You are going from sleeve to bypass? May I ask why? I’m getting a sleeve on 5/20 and really interested in why folks get various procedures. And I want to learn from others’ experiences. Good luck to you and all our May surgery buddies! 👍

I am sleeve to bypass on 5/6!

Yeah, the RNY bypasses a few inches and the OAGB/MGB bypasses several feet. I don't know what's "full" about RNY that isn't "full" about OAGB/MGB but it surely isn't the bypass part. Maybe the "full" refers to the pouch that fills fast and gets ... full? Or the full absorption of carbs in the part of the intestine they somehow mangle to attach to that pouch that we're spared from? Or the full-on dumping? Or the full coffers of American surgeons who refuse to learn OAGB/MGB because RNY pays well? I don't know. All I know is a) do Optifast b) caffeine omg c) alcohol = pray to JeBuS and omg and areu4realomgomg d) Optifast e) Being fat definitely isn't a complex chronic condition, it's just about willpower. Or something. Anywho. ...

Hello Skins657, I had the lap band placed in 2010 (self-pay) and although I specifically chose the band, from almost the beginning I recognized that it was a big mistake. I was constantly hungry, and I found the band to function erratically. Sometimes I had almost 100% restriction, but most often I had 0% restriction. Insurance did not cover adjustments and they ended up being very costly and did not help. I lost some weight but gained it all back during my decade with the lap band. It was only recently (during the pandemic) that I learned that I could have the band removed and undergo a different bariatric procedure. Unfortunately, my only option was a gastric bypass (covered by insurance) since the band had caused so much damage to my esophagus. I picked a surgeon who had a lot of experience with conversions from band to bypass. I had my bypass on 4/5/22 and so far, so good! For what it is worth, I wish that I had never chosen the band.

Band to bypass reversion UK
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Skins657's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh so not the traditional gastric bypass. Don't let @MiniGastricBypassDudesee you type that it's the same as Gastric Bypass, lol. He actually has a fantastic thread on here that you should read about the MGB. Thank you for the well wishes! -
It's It's 'mini loop bypass' I'm having. Apparently it's the same as a full bypass. Hopefully yours goes well

Band to bypass reversion UK
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Skins657's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No, I chose Lap Band on my own. I tried going the less invasive route. So I only have myself to blame, lol. I developed GERD and I'm now in the process of revising to Bypass as well. I never got to goal with the band and I'm hoping for better success with revision and improvement of GERD. Best wishes on your revision! Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Hi there. I took part in a bariatric study where I had no choice of what procedure to have. The only one I didn't want particularly was the band due to all the negative reviews. Funnily enough the computer chose the band for me, I had my concerns but the surgeon swayed me to it. So iwas banded in 2018 all was going well, went down from 165kg to 106kg so almost 60kg down. Untill a few months ago the band just overnight. Stopped working?! I always had bad reflux during (was prescribed lansoprozole) but this was really bad. Being sick in my sleep. Then the sleepless nights. I could eat what I wanted with zero restriction. The reason I had surgery is because my brain has no "off switch" so ovcourse as soon as my brain worked out I could eat what I want. I went to town. I have now regained to 140kg approaching my start weight. After tests at hospital (camera down throat and barium swallow) they couldn't for the life of them work out what was going on. To help me sleep at night they emptied the band. They tried to convince me to keep the band and try again but as it wad on my record that I did not want it in the first place they have kindly agreed to remove the band and have a revision to a bypass. (Within a few months I'm told. Just have to wait for the random phonecall 2 weeks prior like last time) Was/has anyone been in the same position??

So back in April of 21, I embarked on this journey. Lots of reasons everything from the fear of losing my wife who had the surgery the year prior, to tired of the doctors and their nonsense of calling me a walking heart attack. So after going through all the hoops, and mind you because of covid I didn't have any in person classes or anything, no support group nothing, August 24th I got a gastric bypass, and came home the very next day, no pain, no complications, as a matter of fact I walked out of the hospital on my own power. Three days later I was off my blood pressure pills, I just started getting really dizzy, and that was because of the pills. Let's see that Sunday I was back on my motorcycle. I was doing pretty good up till the late four month point, and I stalled at 210, now I'm hanging at 205 and stalled again. But it's so weird being able to fit small clothes, tie my shoes, walk around without chest pain or getting out of breath. Still have around 40 to go but I'll get there, especially now that the weather is starting to break. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi Everyone, Has anyone had a barium swallow test done after gastric bypass surgery to check if their pouch has stretched or for any other reason? I had a barium swallow done as I suffer from LPR (silent reflux) where I aspirate non-acidic reflux into my throat and lungs. The results show that my Jejunum (small intestine) has stretched to the same size as my pouch. Would love to hear from anyone that has had a barium swallow which has shown that not only has their pouch stretched, but the jenumum (small intestine) has stretched also after the join between the stomach pouch and jejunum. I have attached a photo from my barium swallow scan for your reference which shows that after the narrow join where the arrows are, my jejunum has stretched.

bypass patient here. We were also told never to drink carbonated drinks, but some surgeons are more strict about this than others. I've seen people on here who were told they could have them once they were a few months out, as long as the carbonation didn't bother their stomach. I've tried a couple of times - when I was about three years out, I think -- and the carbonation did bother my stomach. Plus I hadn't had diet soda in so long that it tasted like a bunch of chemicals to me. Ugh. So needless to say, I never went back.

Sleeve with high BMI
Crisscat replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For myself I chose to do the sleeve over bypass. Mainly because I have 3 co workers who have had bypass, 2 males and 1 female. The 2 males are gaining their weight back they lost. They eat and drink pretty much what they want and are overeating again, They both went from a 4XL to XL and Im pretty sure they are both back in to a 2XL now 2 yrs post bypass. The one female coworker has had horrible hair loss (I guess I should say thinning hair) she is early 30s and has had back to back babies after her bypass. I do not believe she is back to her pre bypass weight but shes probably put 50-60 lbs back on. She just had a 3rd baby not long ago and has already scheduled to have her bypass redone or relooked at (honestly Im not sure what they do when you put alot of your weight back on) any way she has something scheduled for Nov 2022. I have another co worker who had a sleeve. She has done exceptionally well, she's lost 95-105 lbs since March of last year. Im not sure she is at her goal weight but she may be. The only thing she complained about was being hydrated enough. I guess she just couldnt get her fluids in and she battled being dehydrated alot. I know both surgery's are tools and if you dont stick to it then the above scenario's can happen. I felt the sleeve could be the best option for me. I am satisfied with my decision and am currently pending surgery in about 3 weeks. I am alittle uneasy, nervous and maybe even alittle scared but I know thats my food addict self trying to talk me out of this decision. Im holding firm and I believe I can get through it God willing, with little to no complications or problems. In the long run I know this is the best for my health. I have kids I need to be here for....so I have to succeed! -
June 2022 surgery buddies
Mariann812 replied to Jessica1024's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am probably going to be a June surgery…obviously 🙄 my preferred date of 4/11 wasn’t to be. The last day of school is June 10-ish and I’m ready to go that day. My paper work won’t be sent to Cigna for about another week. I’m leaning towards gastric bypass and I’m meeting with my surgeon next week to discuss what he thinks. I’m looking forward to reading about everyone’s experience. -
Hello all, I recently asked my PCP if I was a good candidate for gastric bypass and he said yes without hesitation and referred me to their bariatrics. I’m in the bay area so I got a call 2 days later from the South San Francisco staff and they scheduled my first nutrition class and also my appointment with my surgeon. I currently have a BMI of 38 and have no additional health issues and scared about getting denied. Has anyone had luck within the 35-39 BMI range without any cormorbidities? I’ve done extensive research and I have my mind set that this is the right choice. I felt hopefully for once in a long time, but now I am scared I am not going to qualify.

Burning pain from left incision
mrsjo replied to Skinnyagain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our surgeon and educational staff said if you have the bypass your pain is worse on left bc that’s where they insert the largest trocar. If you have sleeve it tends to be on the right because that’s where the largest one is with that procedure. This may not be the same surgeon to surgeon but for what it’s worth that’s what they said. It is such bad pain sometimes people go to the ER so they wanted us to know up front what it was. Good to know you’re feeling better though 😀 -
Hello All, I was banded in 2013. I lost around 85lbs. I have had issues, and now will soon (within the next 2 months) have the band removed and have bypass done. I was hoping to find a friend to go on this journey with. Thanks to all
