  1. Question?? Is anyone be sides my self feel like you no longer have that food restriction feeling? I can eat just about anything and everything and I don't like that. I feel like after only 11 months PO I'm just binge eating again. Sugary foods don't bother me, I'm craving for soda that I haven't had in 11 months, I'm always feeling like I want to eat something. I was doing so good and now I have no motivation to keep going. My family always got junk food in the house and I find myself reaching for the bad things again. I've lost 80lbs, and feel like I gained some back. Please no judgement just encouraging words will help [emoji3064] Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I've read on the forum many revise to a bypass if they have hiatal hernia and acid reflux. This wouldn't be an option for me, I had colon cancer and need to have yearly colonoscopy. Makes me feel its higher stakes with the sleeve as I won't be able to revise.

    May 2022 Surgeries

Hello, My gastric bypass is scheduled for May 31, 2022.
  5. OMG! Same here I'm due for a hiatal hernia repair and gastric bypass on the 27th of April. I've lost 30lbs since December 5th I was 240lbs now I'm down to 211lbs I've got another 77 to go! my whole family keeps saying you don't need the surgery youve got such willpower you've lost 13kilos already you can lose another 13 easily! BUT they don't understand that it's not about losing it's about keeping it off! I've lost many times before but put it back oh after I stopped all the hard work. I've managed to lose 13 kilos with the help of ozempic at the same time which really helps with my hunger pangs, but I know myself the weight is just going to come back on within a couple of months once I stop using ozempic! as my weight is hereditary I put it on very easily I'm just happy that I'm losing before the surgery so it to be quicker to reach my goal weight post-surgery💪😊🙏

    Sleeping Upright Post Op

I am a stomach sleeper and I had bypass. While I didn't experience GERD, I slept in a recliner for about 3 months post-surgery. It was the only way that I could sleep pain-free.

    Sleeping Upright Post Op

Apparently GERD and acid issues are very common with the sleeve surgery. I already have SEVERE GERD so my surgery urged against the sleeve for me and explained why bypass was my better option. I had Bypass 4 weeks ago and have had ZERO acid/GERD issues since. I did have to sleep in a recliner for about a week and a half just because it was more comfortable with the incisions healing. Laying flat like it was pulling at everything too much and was too sore.
  9. Hi! Has anyone been diagnosed with Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction due to losing the large amount we lose after surgery? I have it and could not believe losing this weight would cause something like this! The ENT I see is terrific, but I could NOT believe he said I could gain some weight to lessen the symptoms! I'm not even at 25 BMI yet after my revision to Bypass last year! Anyone? What have you experience with this and what did you do to lessen the symptoms? Has anyone had it disappear after the weight was stabilized after a while? Thanks for answering!

lapband removed hoping to have bypass

I just finished my 3rd week after revision from LapBand to Gastric Bypass! I had mine done at the same time, tho. Like previous reply, this has seriously been the best decision. The band was torture, frequent vomiting even with NO fill, my band had slipped and the frequent vomiting maybe led to a hiatal hernia. And I regained every last pound of the 60# I lost with it. The bypass has been great, I started soft foods last week and so far so good. I've lost 25.4#!! All the best to you!

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello all. Had my bypass on the 15th. Was discharged day after. And am feeling pretty good. Getting my fluids and trying to walk a bit. Just that little bit of pulling on the right side of my stomach. Managing the pain with just Tylenol so far. From everything I’ve read, I think I’m in good shape. Just trying to spread some of that positive affirmation.

    Considering this procedure

Hi Carrielee, Seeing a bariatric surgeon and getting into a pre-surgical program has been life-changing for me. I am scheduled for a SADI-DS procedure on May 5. I have high BP requiring multiple medications, am nearly a diabetic, and am tired of yo-yo dieting. I also don't want dumping syndrome, which can happen after the traditional gastric bypass. Meanwhile, after seeing the dietician and therapist and getting on a plan, I have lost 48 pounds so far during my preop. My starting weight was 330 lb, now 281.5 lb. My pants size has gone from a 28W to a 22W. My advice is to find a bariatric surgeon you trust. Work with the dietician and therapist. You will lose weight. The surgery becomes another tool to make it more effective. Good Luck!
  15. I am hoping someone can help me out. I am flying into San Diego from Toronto for Gastric Bypass surgery. I am being released from the hospital 2 days after surgery and I am trying to figure out how long I should stay in San Diego. My Surgery is on the 4th of June I was thinking about leaving on the 9th but I have a four hour flight home. What is the recovery like and will it be possible for me to sit for four hours days after my surgery.

I’m do for the same…hiatal hernia repair and gastric bypass…not in 9 days, though. 🙂 At least I don’t think so. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I might jump at the chance to get the surgery out of the way soon, though, if given the opportunity. It all depends on my schedule at school. We’ll see. Right now I’m thinking June 10-ish…last day of school. I’ll be watching for your updates, Merill. Keep posting.
  17. All the best🙏 Thanks heaps 😊🙏❤️

Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.

I think it really is more a question of whether your stomach is healed enough to tolerate alcohol. My surgeon advised to wait two months before consuming alcohol as their belief is that the stomach should be completely healed first. That being said, I did start drinking again a few months after my sleeve, which I believe was one of the reasons I never reached my weight loss goal. I was in a similar situation to yours in that alcohol was a part of my social scene at the time. Along with drinking came poor nutrition decisions and between the two I stopped losing weight 30 pounds short of my goal. I'm two months post revision to bypass and haven't started consuming alcohol again yet. I'm determined to get to my weight loss goal this time (only have about 25 lbs to go) and have now adapted my social scene enough so that alcohol isn't such a big part of it.

    Trying again...

I did the majority of my research before even seeing the surgeon. I watched a ton of videos on youtube regarding the different surgeries, complications that each one can have and so on. If you havent already its a great place to start so that way when you do see the surgeon you have a decent knowledge of what they will be talking about and possibly more questions to ask. Tho you mention you do have acid reflux. The gastric sleeve will probably (not always) be out of the question for you so possibly bypass is what your surgery will probably end up being. Good luck with your appointment. Let us know what the surgeon says.

    Cutting hair pre-op

Hi redhead_che, I am a recent band to bypass conversion. I think I may know a little about how you are feeling. With the band, I felt more comfortable having long hair when anticipating hair loss/thinning. This time, I decided to cut 17 inches of my hair about a week or so before my 4/5/22 surgery, which I plan to donate to a cancer non-profit. I am still early in my present journey and so I have not had to endure any hair loss/thinning yet, but I can attest that personally it has made showering and washing my hair a lot easier during my recovery. Also, importantly, my hair is definitely still growing despite a very low-calorie intake for the past four weeks, and I can gather my hair back in a band again. For me, a ponytail is very helpful for covering hair loss/thinning. I have no regrets at all. For what it is worth, I think you should do whatever makes you happy and comfortable.

What are Bariatric capsules made from?

The difference between bariatric friendly capsules vs the standard type is that bariatric capsules are vegan (made from gelatin) non-bariatric type capsules aren't vegan and made from collagen. Depending on which surgery you choose, for instance, in gastric bypass, the capsule passes through the pouch and straight into the intestine, thereby bypassing the remnant stomach where the stomach acid is produced, and where the capsule would begin digestion. They prescribe medicines that are FDA approved. Because they're familiar with them because of the studies and probably for liability purposes also. Supplements and natural drugs aren't FDA approved so they steer clear. I would say that doctors in North America are largely trained in western medicine and western medicine has a large emphasis on pharmaceuticals, of course. You would probably have to find a Naturopathic doctor that is more familiar with natural medicines if you're set on taking natural therapies. Traditional Western doctors just aren't trained in that type of medicine.
  23. So I am doing a sleeve to bypass on 5/6/22. I remember when I had my sleeve I did have some hair loss. I can’t remember how bad it was though. Wondering if anyone with short hair post op had issues with hair loss? Wished you had more hair to avoid signs of hair loss? My hair is down to my mid back and it’s truly time for a hair cut in general, but I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just because hair loss is probably coming 🤣

    Post Op Penis Size

I was wondering the same thing. My gastric bypass is scheduled for 05.31.2022, and I was wondering if I will notice a difference in my penis size. I do expect to lose my fat pad around my penis, but I was wondering if losing that actually makes your penis appear bigger.
  25. Hi all, I'm 6 months bypass post op. I am striving to live as naturally as possible and do not believe that pharmaceuticals are the answer to everything the way the medical industry does. I can't seem to get my team to answer the question - what's the difference between bariatric friendly capsules (such as my multivitamin and the prescriptions they love to write me) and the capsules for other products such natural forms of supplementation? When I look at the inactive ingredient list, they're identical. So why must I take Omeprazole (which has the long term side effect of dementia among others) and not Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Root Supplement with Aloe Vera (link below)? Last I knew licorice (as in the root not the sugary treat) and aloe don't give you dementia and have studies that show they can prevent and treat ulcers. My team says no to the natural supplements due to the capsules but then say it's ok to take Omeprazole, Colace, and other drugs that are capsules. Since they won't tell me the difference (which makes me suspect there may not actually be one), I was hoping if there is one, someone here could explain. I have a background in medical research, teach evidence based medical practice to medical students, and am a faculty member of a university. I'm very intelligent, have a decent understand of anatomy and this surgery, so please hit me with the science! I love science. I'm good with finding alternatives but I hate it when people tell me what to do but refuse to explain why especially when we are talking about the potential for me to literally lose my mind. I've been reading this forum and have found it to be a great source of solace. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
