  1. Hi Everyone, How did all the Biactric beauties go in their first week post op? I got home yesterday and was happy to be home Please tell of your stories so i can see if we experienced something similar. I went in for the RnY but i came out with the Omega loop bypass. At first i freeked out bc after researching in my hospital bed it was commonly called the mini bypass and i thought instantly oh no less weight loss!!! My doctor assured me that the weight loss for both RnY and Omega are essentially the same and that he can not ell weather a patient has had one or the other until he checks their files so im ok with this. He has also said there is less chance of bowl obstruction or twists but a slightly higher chance of reflux but worse case scenario he can do a very minor surgery to correct this. Also dumping is less apparent with the Omega loop im glad about that and i did not need a band to support my pouch and my pouch is a bit longer and has enough resistance alone without the band. All in all im ok with it. Coming out of surgery in recovery was very bumpy for me and i wanted pain killers STAT. After that was sorted my pain leveled out quite quickly and althought they were giving me that oral morphine pill i felt that Panadol or Tylenol was enough as the hillbilly heroin was making me feel very sick and head floaty (im not sure how ppl become addicted to these pills they make me feel yuck). So im on day 4 evening now and im basically pain free but feeling nauseous wen i eat and i am very very tired often. I think im doing ok but i am very aware of every feeling that happens to me. I am getting over a liter of fluids in per day and seem to be reaching my 60g of Protein ok with the powder supplements and the Optifastshakes. Im very interested to hear how everyone else went Nin

    Me again

Hi... To me and this is just my opinion...it sounds like you are possibly starting to dehydrate. It's a vicious cycle since the nausea gets worse with dehydration but with dehydration comes a nauseous stomach. You can't drink much bc your sick but can't get feeling better without drinking. Also sounds like maybe you have shifted into ketosis. For me anyways that has always been a nasty, gagging, horrible taste and smelly breath issue. Like I said , just my personal opinion and problems I've had with it. Try using a coffee pot for just the hot Water but instead of coffee use white TicTacs to flavor the water and freshen your mouth. Good luck and I pray you get better by morning! Positive thoughts and prayers your way!! ❤️️Amy ❤️️

    Pain Medication

I sooo agree I have three kids who are autistic and I have to travel a half hr every 30 days per child so I make 6 round trips a month for prescriptions for kids at that all bc of drug addicts and pill abusers I think they need to punish those offenders and not everyone. I could go on and on about this subject. It's bad enough the money you pay for prescriptions let alone the gas you pay going back and forth for them. I could maybe even somewhat understand if the meds were pain meds but they are nothing but pills to help the moods with autistic children. It's an absolute shame. Me again

One person in my support group said they went through severe 24 -7 nausea that stopped them from eating so long they had to be hospitalized and fed via a picc line. Yikes. But b they did get better and now they look awesome. I don't kniw b about the wolf smell and taste thing...maybe the hormonal shifts perhaps? Bad breath though sounds like either mouth or v stomach issues. Wish I knew how to h elp

    How insensitive...

Wow how stupid of her. I do believe she likely had someone else do it bc I would like to think she was more compassionate and kind, I mean it's almost like a prank, I suppose it's the thought that counts but I would be pissed and knowing me and my big mouth I would nicely say something!! But that's me...I'm extremely assertive bc I have disabilities and have had to vocally fight for my rights ! Whatever the case happy recovery
  7. My psychologist keeps bringing this scared to be thin issue up to me lol....maybe..I'm not sure. I know, like you, I don't like tracking either however I wish to hold myself accountable and make the right decisions bc I b d9nt v want to go thru surgery for nothing. I'm a type a personality and I hate to fail I'm very competitive with myself so I n think this v will help me overcome the hatred for tracking and denial lol.

    What was your "last" meal?

Pumpkin cheedecake, went out for Mexican food as I live in San Diego and had Mc Donalds fries the other night lol. I start my prep Monday and I'm doing one meal replacement now but yeh enjoying b the last sweets and junk chocolate bar while I can but also not like eating loads or huge portions bc I want to shed enough weight for me and my surgeon
  9. @@migalo - My GF and I usually just split a meal. Makes dating cheaper. And look, you can go to Whole Foods, get a 1/4 pound of grass fed organic whatever and that's 2-3 meals. The surgery pays for itself quicker than you think.

    Hypothyroidism? Losing weight?!

@@ABarnett916X I'm the same way. I have lost very little on my 2 week preop liquid diet (day 11). Between retaining fluids (had to come off bc pills that had a diuretic), hypothyroidism and PCOS - I feel like nothing works!

    Noodles

I'm five years out and I tried Pasta and rice maybe two years after my surgery because I was nervous to try it.. those foods are fillers for me.. if I eat those I won't get my Protein in at all.. don't mind the harsh comments.. we are human and as human we learn from experience. I love rice but now I can not eat it because it hurts when I eat it.. I think for everyone to say they don't spurge or go of course every now and then is total BS ... If you try it talk to your Nut first and see what he or she has to say on a good time frame to try it. They might advise against doing so, but you never know they are human to who indulges here and there also I am sure. Sent from my HTCD100LVWPP using the BariatricPal App

    Federal BCBS Insurance

You should be fine, try not to freak out, but I completely understand because it's a very uneasy feeling having gone through all the requirements just to not even know if the insurance will approve. I have fed bcbs, also had a BMI of 42 and got my approval in 1 week. I did also have high BP for years, but they are true to their "parameters" for what bcbs says. Until that awesome day when you get your phone call saying you've been approved (and it is awesome, make you feel like you just won the bariatric lottery, lol), which shouldn't take long at all, just try to distract yourself by keeping busy and getting a head start on all the mental work you'll need to do pre and post op. All the best! Sent from my SM-G928V using the BariatricPal App
  13. Shelterdog64 - thank you thank you. Your post was heartfelt and felt as though you were speaking to me in person - very helpful. My youngest turned 11 in July and she is a motivation for me. I've spent the last couple of years in a real funk - work has been so stressful for me that I come home and isolate myself in the den just to try to refuel myself mentally to take on another onslaught at work. I have distanced myself from her in too many ways and I feel sick to my stomach when I think about it. In such a short amount of time she'll be old enough to not want to spend any time with me - in fact, the main reason I'm so upset about the amount of time until I get this surgery is the age she'll be when I'm down the weight and feeling better physically and mentally (that's the outcome I hope for of course!). So, this led me to dealing with my feelings now before it's too late. She doesn't really care how fat I am, she just loves ME. I go back and forth on the food - sometimes I worry about it and other times I think no big deal. The ONLY real worry I have (and this is likely due to not enough info yet) is the nutrition part. I can't have dairy so I'll be limited with Protein shakes. I have to follow a specific diet (not weight loss diet, there are foods I can't digest properly) so that will limit me a bit too. It concerns me that the portions are toddler sized. How does a full grown person live on such small portions the rest of their life and stay healthy? Nutrients from real food is better than that from a Vitamin. I'm sure all these questions will be answered Monday when I see the nutritionist. I think one of the biggest things I wonder about is what you and many have said. That they regret not having this early - is it that good? See, I can't imagine it! lol That it's the best thing they've ever done. Again, really? The best thing you've ever done is starve yourself to skinny and eat like a toddler for the rest of your life, never be able to drink a liquid with food, never have sparkling Water (or beer, etc.), have to sip liquids all the time, etc. etc. I'm NOT meaning this to be directly at you - just in general from what I've read - but it goes around in my head in a loop. Questioning the validity of the surgery - on one day it's a good idea, the next a really bad one! lol I can't imagine how people have done this without the preliminary work-up, the care and appts. etc. There are SO many questions and it's so life-changing (positively and possibly negatively) that time is needed prior to surgery. I'm happy for the wait and I'm not if that makes sense. Anyway - thanks for being such a great help! Where in WA are you? I grew up in Vancouver (BC) and often drove down to Bellingham and area to shop - was a 45 min. drive from my door, cross the border and arrive at shops! Loved it....
  14. I've read on here it happens bc the nerves are not healed in your stomach yet. Search "no feeling of fullness" or something like that and the explanations should come up. I wish they covered this in classes before the surgery! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

  16. I wouldn't make an assumption that a doctor is less experienced bc of a pre-op diet. For many it would be the policy of the practice or hospital. And wanting every advantage possible is not a negative. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. What is PE? My friend is the same age as you, and she had diabetes to the point where she was taking insulin 3x a day. She had the RnY bc it is known to eliminate diabetes whereas with the sleeve, you still may or may not have to take the medication. She's doing great and had lost over 100 pounds. It's just something to consider when you have diabetes. Good luck with your decision. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Myself!

Nothing to do with weight loss but I have to rant about myself. I have been looking for a job the last month or so. So I get an in person interview and I don't speak clear along with words become brain farts. I need a job its something I'm trying to succeed with. I have one tomorrow but I just feel what's the point if I can't speak clearly!? Or why bother bc they judge me on a screw up interview when in fact I'm a hard worker and do things to exceeded expectations Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  23. There is no reason you can't lose 100% of your excess weight. It may be a challenge, but MANY people do it. Now, I will say that shooting for a "normal" BMI could be BS because the BMI chart is ridiculous. MANY athletes are categorized as "obese" simply because of their height/weight. BMI does not take body fat into account at all, which is ridiculous. There is no reason to expect that you will only lose 50% of your excess weight either. YOU WILL DO WHAT YOU WORK FOR. YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS WILL DIRECTLY EQUAL YOUR EFFORTS. That's really the bottom line.
  24. So this is my story so far, almost 8 years ago I gave birth to my youngest child it was a very stressful and emotional and physically painful pregnancy. After birth I found myself the lightest I had weighed since 4 th grade I tried for years to keep it off but always fluxerating in weight. About five years ago my third child was diagnosed with severe ADHD. Already having my oldest who has autism and my middle child having ADHD and now my youngest with severe ADHD my husband and and I decided it was time for me to stay home and quit my job. So this is what I did. I went from constantly on the go to being at home and for the first few months I struggled of just not understanding I never smoked drank or did drugs why did I have three disabled kids?? This is something I still question often but just thankful I have them at the end of it all. Slowly tho over the last five years I have increasingly put weight on. Bc of my abusive childhood from my mother I vowel I would always be the best mom I could about 8 months ago I opened my eyes and realized in order to be a good mom I have to for one take care of me. Something I have never done. I have always put my kids first above everything. So in April I started my journey I quit smoking cold turkey just like I did during my pregnancy and have not looked back I will do anything it takes for a this surgery. I started at 283 I'm now at 270 and I go to finally meet the surgeon on October 25. !! I'm so excited and so ready for this journey!!! I started my classes back in April and it just seems like it's been forever. I'm so ready to start my life to a healthier happier me. I have suffered from so much depression due to me gaining weight and I'm ready to say good riddens to both and hello world and ready to start having fun with my husband and kids. This summer was really an eye opening for me I went to Hershey park with my kids and I was told I had to get off the ride sooo humiliating. Going to the beach and wearing clothes in the ocean bc I'm embarrassed to wear a swimsuit. Went hiking and kept having to stop and my family waiting for me bc I felt like I would pass out. I'm ready for my new start and nothing will come in my path. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Losing weight = less fatty liver?

I've been on liquids since 8/29 bc my surgery was originally scheduled for 9/13. Surgery got postponed because my thyroid was too high. Now I am back to normal range and scheduled for 10/17. I was kept on the liquid diet the whole time so that I'd be ready to go for surgery once my thyroid was stable. Of course, my surgeon was on vacation until the 17th ... so I will be on a liquid diet for 8 weeks after 1 week post-op. I did have some pizza, but still lost weight the day after ... so I was curious about the weight last as vs. liver shrinkage Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
