    Post-Op Costs?

They are expensive, but shop around. I still have to buy regular food for my family of 6 & add supplements too that, sometimes feels like a ton. But the money I save not eating out all of the time has to be greater than what I'm spending. I buy protein shakes at Costco now & look for coupons & sales on vitamins. Good luck!
  2. I was sleeved on April 27, 2015. My protein is up and I'm doing well on water intake. Only thing is once in a while my stomach gets upset. I'm not eating anything crazy, I'm pretty good with my eating. I'm on regular foods, I'm just careful with fats and sugar, and I'm not eating breads, pasta or rice. What do you do when your stomach gets upset. I don't want to take pills cause too many pills upset my stomach more. Any advice?
  3. It is tough, even for those of us who weren't obliged to do a strictly liquid diet and could do soft things, we're still doing a lot of liquidy things because that's what's tolerated initially, Though I could do some yogurt and eggs, I still got awful tired of soups and protein jello and couldn't stand the thought of them for a couple of years.
  4. Some people have had good weight loss, others not. In general the average weight loss with ESG is lower than the surgical options because the stomach reduction is not as great as the surgical options. https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty/about/pac-20393958#:~:text=When combined with lifestyle modification,at 12 to 24 months.
  5. My Dr told me to start taking vitamins and supplements 10 days out. Today is my first day and I got the multivitamin down fine. I tried crushing the others and putting them in my protein drink..... Disgusting!!!!! Any suggestions?

    Diet plan required please

I know I'm a little late to the game, but if I can jump in... TRACK. Either get myfitnesspal or use a little book and do the calories later. Honestly, it's easier to use paper when you're in the "1 bite" & "2 spoonfuls" stage. Write a meal plan for yourself. "Cereal & fruit" is quite a different nutrient load than "egg, sausage or bacon" which is even more different than "cottage cheese & pineapple". 2 of those 3 meals are loaded with carbs/sugar. It's ok to have cereal & fruit one day if you're protein heavy the rest of the day. Also, take into account how far along you are. OP, at 20 months PO, you should be above 1000 calories, I'd think. Every time I asked my drs how many calories to have they'd say "focus on protein, then veg, don't stuff" and track if I wanted, to see how many calories I was full on. I was around 900 forever, but couldn't hit 1500 until 3 years.

    Rate of Weight Loss

Hello! I was banded on 12/17/12 and am curious of what people's rate of weight loss is. I just started my 5th week and have lost 18 lbs, which I am thrilled with, but not sure if I should be losing more each week. I've been walking every day for at least 20 minutes and am only eating 2 oz of Protein 3 times per day. I just thought I would have lost more by now. Thank you for any input.

    On my way

They put me on vitamin D after my bloodwork also, my doc told me up to 85% of people are vitamin D deficant but just never get tested, the vitamin D you might be on awhile inless you get out more after the surgery or get enough in your daily vitamins after surgery. I only take 2 a week on Sunday and it bothers my tummy a little but not much. Sadly time goes slow.....i just got done my 6 month visits, still waiting on my date but approved by insurance. Take this time to try to get used to eating protein, taking a multi-vitamin and if you can lose some weight during your 6 month visits the doc recomends it, it shows the insurance co. you are serious about losing the weight......
  11. I've managed great on my liquids and protein, I'm up to almost 80oz liquids per day and close to 60g protein. I've tried creamed soups (always strained), gelatin, Gatorade Zero, the only dairy I've tried comes in the Premiere protein shakes. We're invited to some friends today for Thanksgiving who know I've had DS surgery. I'm curious how well I might manage some extra-super-blended and strained foods today. I'm only day 10 so I'm not going to push it, but I'm really close to my week 3 pureed stage. Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I was orginially scheduled for surgery on August 2 then it was changed to August 5. So I received a call from the surgeon's office this morning, and it has been changed yet again. This time I was presented with 2 options, the first being next Friday, July 22 and August 19. Well August 19 is absolutely out of the question. I would need to push back to the October, if that was the case. So, I will be having my surgery at 12:45 pm on July 22. Oh lord, am I really ready for this? So, my initial dilemma has been solved, which was my husband being out-of-town. He is going to adjust his schedule. So my next dilemma is work and telling my boss that I will be out of office starting next Friday. I had planned to be out of the office for two weeks after surgery in August and then work from home the next week or so. At least now I will be able to return to work sooner, mid-August, so that is actually a good thing. But am I ready?
  13. Also I do the shakes because it's really hard to meet protein with just regular food. I do 2 a day.

Think Thin protein bars are nice and soft. Good protein too. (And yummy!) May be a slider for some folks...

    Craving protein shakes

It looks like we are both far enough out that Protein shakes should no longer be used as a primary source. If I really don't want food at a particular time and just want a clear liquid, Isopure works perfectly fine for me, and for some reason even continues to provide some satiety. If you are still feeling satisfied after the Protein shake and are not getting cravings later, then more power to you, but I would imagine that at some point you will need to resort to solid, dense protein to get the true feelings of fullness. It's great that you have found them tolerable and even preferable. So many people here can't stand them.
  16. Sounds strange to say but i didn't know what options were available to me. Before this i've only ever heard of bypass and the lap band. I wasn't nervous about the actual surgery. I was more scared of being obese forever and the health issues that comes with that later on. Once i found out about the sleeve, i was like "when can i do this? Tell what i have to do, let's get it over with"
  17. I space out mines Protein shakes. Example 4oz Breakfast, 4oz lunch,4oz for dinner. Snacks between meals popsicles, yogurt. If I eat Soup for lunch or dinner I will replace a snack with 4 oz of shake. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  19. Cheeses are calorie dense and cream of wheat is loaded with carbs. .select among the other items that are high protein-low carb and be mindful of the overall calories and you will lose weight.

    Last weekend before liquid diet

Wow that's rough BB. I have not been told to lose weight before the surgery yet although I know I will be on Protein shakes for 2-weeks prior. Can't help but lose weight when you are not eating anything! Wishing you well and success !

    Pre-Op diet questions

Hey, I am on the 28th too! I suppose that makes us twins of some sort??? I went ahead and found a very low fat/carb/EVERYTHING!!! Chinese soup mix. It pretty much staved off the craving for a hearty/savory food. I also got some sugar-free Popsicles... I have not had them since I was a kid! now I know why kids want to eat them all the time! those things have crack in them or something. I know it! I was good though. I just had one! even though they are on the "free foods" list.

    protein shakes

I've only tried 3 brands - EAS carb control, Muscle Milk and Premier Protein. All premixed and only the chocolate flavor. Premier Protein comes in 1st - being the smoothest and most like chocolate mile, EAS comes in a close 2nd (just a little grainy texture and waterier), Muscle Milk tasted good, just too many calories from carbs. I can usually find the Premier and EAS at Sams and Walmart for around $1.25/shake. When I want a thicker shake, I toss in a scoop of powdered protein mix.

    protein shakes

I overbought also. I liked Premier Protein chocolate. Just threw up one last week. I want no more. My NUT told me a month ago to stop the shakes and eat real food anyway.

    I'm on the BAND wagon!!

Thanks for the warm welcome!! No pain in the neck or shoulder-I was actually dreading that more than the surgery. I had my GB out a year ago and the gas pain was horrible. But my banding was great. Its Friday and I don't need any pain meds, I've been walking all over the place, sleeping on my stomach (even in the hosp after the surgery), and drinking my protein shakes. The burping is still there. My kids think its funny. Haha

Do You Spend More Time Cooking?

I have found that if I see an interesting recipe, I will plan it, shop for it, prepare it and glorify in the whole process. Then there are times when I'll just eat a Protein bar. I am five years out and still experience no hunger. I'm actually sad about that. All of the fun and anticipation of "social dining" is gone. I'd rather be doing something---anything except "wasting time" eating. I find that I have to stay attentive, or I'll find myself grazing, instead of stopping and taking the time to concentrate on my eating. Work in process...no regrets.
