Survived My First BBQ
NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! When I was looking at her she just ate a little bit of everything. SHe kept busy cooking and clearing things. She even drank beer that was 64 calories! She sat there wearing her bikini top and at the age of 45 she looked really good. I was thinking about what I would wear to a pool party next year! I'll eventually just have to say I am on a diet when they see me eating very little. Thanks again for all the support!! -
changing your relationship with food...
pnw218 replied to erh92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 2 months out and can honestly say that I am not over the food obsession yet. The mental has been much more difficult than the physical for me. I am not doing any counseling yet but my primary doctor has suggested it, more so for handling stress but I am sure I can bring up this issue as well. My advice would be: if you are craving something, have a couple of bites and move on. Your stomach will not allow you to eat a quantity that will do super damage. You may be over your calories or carbs for one day, but you get right back on it the next day. I have decided that I can have an ounce or two of lemoncello liquor on Friday/Saturday nights, but will not drink any other nights unless it is a special occasion. On the weekends, I am also having a treat if I want one. Yesterday it was a few bites of a brownie with cream cheese frosting. Today it was part of a mocha freeze from costco. I am so sick of chocolate right now, I doubt I will have any more for quite a while. As for the extra time, I really haven't had that much yet cause it takes so dang long to eat 2 ounces! I really wish I could spend 5 or 10 minutes eating and then move on to something more exciting. :smile1: You probably will need to find something fun or productive to do, instead of grazing in the kitchen like we used to. I am so glad to hear your sister is supportive! My sister has been great, altho I didn't tell her until the night before I left for San Diego. She was concerned for my safety and well being, but certainly did not try to talk me out of it. My 24 yr old daughter, on the other hand, still thinks I am crazy. But then, she knows it all :sad0:!! Good luck to you! It is a wonderful tool. -
Decided I was sick of sitting home and needed fresh air. Wentto a BBQ about 5 minutes from my house. They had lots of good food but I sipped on my water. I said I had a stomach virus. It wasn't as bad as I thought. Sure I wanted a steak skewer but the water had filled me up, plus I would not even dare think about it! I looked at the thin hostess and notcied she only nibble or a little of this and a little of that-that will be me someday!! I did stop and got an icy -I know we are allowed sugar free pops. This isn't sugar free but low calories and it's a banana/choc italian ice. The kind that come in little plastic cups (usually with woodedn forks). It tastes amazing! Had my protein shake first (4oz). I was proud the I survived the BBQ and my hubby had a good time.

Thanks, Mass. I ate Pasta, graham crackers (huge carbs and calories there), crackers, bananas, pretzels, apples, Cereal and oatmeal. I try putting everything in My Fitness Pal, but I find I am not 100% compliant with my entries. I am trying to get better.

Power Crunch bars are delicious, they sell them at some Rite Aids, and at Trader Joe's and GNC and Vitamin Shoppe and some 24 hour Fitness centers. They are like wafer Cookies. I think they have about 10-14 grams of Protein. You have to read the labels carefully some are very high in calories and sugar. Look for low carb versions. Luna bars are good too but not the highest in protein. So far the Atkins bars are still the best, not too many calories or carbs. The daybreak bars (cranberry/almond and Peanut Butter fudge) and really good at under 150 calories and about 10-12 grams of protein.

Just go back to the way your supposed to eat and your baby will be healthy and you will lose weight. As long as your daily intake is 1500 calories or more of healthy foods your milk supply will grow with your baby. You don't need to eat extra you just need to eat enough, stay hydrated and nurse on demand. -
I didnt have pasta for several months after surgery mostly because it is a slider food...meaning its hard to chew up into tiny pieces and after about an hour after dinner I would be bringing up pieces of pasta and it annoyed me. But if I have it now I just am careful. 1/4 of a c is my limit for startches and this would have 55 calories in that amount if we are speaking about the same thing. Thats not too bad but there isnt much nutritional value in it... except the grain I suppose.

I had that for the first few weeks - definitely ketosis. It's awful. I'm past that now - getting more calories in - but I still can't drink plain water. Thank goodness for SoBe Life Water Zero and Vitamin Water Zero!! -
Calorie Intake Pre-Op Diet??
2muchfun replied to Kaytlyn Allen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems low. Depends on how you are feeling. The goal at this stage is to shrink your liver. If 1000 calories will do it why starve yourself? Check with your doctor or nutritionist? You should have some kind of pamphlet or manual by now? tmf -
Sonia's Mom.... Have you tried Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate or FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal They are great for tracking food, protein, calories, carbs, etc. I've used the weight graph since I was banded. It is really satisfying to see your weight going down on a graph, it's a sense of accomplishment. I still look at that every now and again.

Pre-Op Diet Support Thread :)

Danielle (and others) I hope your day was better than mine. Just closing out on day 3. First mistake I made was in the middle of the night last night I instinctively grabbed a granola bar when I was up to the bathroom. I have to walk through the kitchen, and for a year I have snacked at night. I got halfway through it before I realized what I was doing. I should have stopped then and there, but I finished it. So that took 140 of my allotted 700 calories. And it is not an allowed food, so I feel guilty. Did well for breakfast, and lunch wasn't hard. At 6:00 my husband came home with a box of food that my sis in law sent for the family, because she knows I've been on bedrest. This sweet lady just wanted to help out with a meal for tonight. A loaf of 100% homemade wheat bread, homemade chicken noodle soup (she even makes her own noodles), and a very healthy carrot cake that she makes. I said no to it, set the table for my husband and daughter, and then left the room. My mouth kept watering for some of chicken soup, and before I knew it, I was at the table eating 1/2 cup of it. I did not have the bread but I did have 2 small bites of the carrot cake. It is veggies, right? (nope, can't justify that one). I know the soup is very healthy, but it is against what I am supposed to be eating. I drank a ton of water, was still hungry, and then drank a protein shake. Now I'm satisfied, but mad at myself for caving in to that delicious chicken soup. I still think I kept close to the calorie limit, but went over my carb limit. I did get enough protein in. So that is my downfall. I hope it is the last one, but won't guarantee it. I figure that if I am losing, my liver is shrinking. My scale shows me to be down almost 10 pounds since I saw the surgeon. Our scale is off sometimes, but it can't be off that much. Anyway, I hope all of you had a better day today sticking to your diets. Kateeryn, I'm glad you got your veggies worked in. That should help a bunch. Can you eat any sauces on your veggies? What are you having tomorrow? -
Weight Watchers and the band?
JaffreyChick replied to PSJ71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the food journal at www.lapbandjourney.com -- I was only banded 8/20 so I don't have a lot of foods yet. But it does allow me to add the Soup as a serving and will recalculate it for me when I only have 1/2 or 1/3 of the serving. It shows how many calories and how many carbs and where you are at with Protein. I also did WW in the past and liked the points. I like this just as well and the price is great - FREE! -
Protein Shakes After Surgery...low Or High Calorie?
melinda48 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little confused about the protein powder/shakes for after surgery. I see one of the more common ones is Unjury, which is very low in calories. Since from my understanding I will be only able to (or only want to because of lack of appetite) consume a teaspoon or two at a time and am only getting a few teaspoons a day (? correct)...shouldn't I need something that contains higher calories to keep me from becoming weak/fatigued until I'm able to eat actual food? -
I've been doing my pre op diet for two days. I decided to enter it into 'my fitness pal'and it totaled under 500 calories. Is that right? I am using the Syntrax Nectar packages. The AM mixed with milk and the PM one mixed with Water. Then salad with low cal low fat dressing and 2 oz chicken breast. My pre op instructions say salad with Protein, but not how much.

I'm on mushies, but I've been eating some soft solids too, chewing them to uber mush in my mouth. Today - Breakfast was Protein shake and supplements, snack was low fat cottage cheese, lunch was small dill and lemon tuna salad with low fat mayo and some melon and vegetable cocktail. dinner was homemade humus - just blended canned chick peas with garlic, ginger, and lime and super soft poached trout with 0 cal butter spray, lime, and sodium free potassium salt. some berries and low cal cool whip for dessert. and LOADS of bottled Water flavoured with lime and stevia (herbal sweetner) all day long. later will have a Dannon silouhette fat free and sugar free yogurt drink, and before bed chai tea made with low fat coconut milk. I aim for 900-1200 calories a day, and 70-100 grams of protein, and stay under 30 grams of fat. I use fit day to track it. I try to pick foods low in fat, low on the glycemic index. I'm eating homemade humus and other blended bean mixes with garlic and lime and ginger a fair bit. Microwaved mashed yams with butter flavor spray. low fat dairy - the yogurt drinks, cottage cheese, and fat free processes swiss cheese slices. Lots of berries, rasperries, blackberries and blueberries mostly. Also melons. Occasionally advocado. fish - tuna, salmon, trout, artificial crab all of these I've been eating mashed well into a soft salad with low fat mayo and lime. Egg sensations brand egg whites the cheese and chive flavor, with a little butter spray cooked in the microwave egg poacher, or I let them cool and add low fat mayo to make mock egg salad... one of my favorites. I usually mash my fruit with a couple of table spoons of cool whip light, and if the berries need it, a little stevia to sweeten it up more. Also motts no sugar added apple and peach sauce blends. pureed vegetable Soups the kind you buy pre-made in the cartons. - blended green vegetable, pea soup, carrot soup, butternut squash soup, are some of my faves. Getting veggies drinking vegetable cocktail too. I aim for 4 servings of veggies a day, and 3 of fruit. It's been great so far. XO Leila

3 weeks will be great! Wouldnt really exercise during that time, unless of course the doc is okay with that... your calorie intake will be super duper low and your energy (the little you have) will be healing your staple line Enjoy the 'break!' lol

determined1 replied to monk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your body is most likely in a stall, which happens to us all. From what Ive read, its where your body is trying to catch up to your wt loss. The stall can last anywhere from couple days to months! Mine lasted 3 weeks. Try 'throwing in a wrench' in your daily food intake (as Tiff would say) up your calories couple hundred just one day, your body may be getting used to your same ol daily routine. mix it up a little, keep your body confused... hope this helps.. -
Is It Weird Cuz I Feel This Way
kah1213 replied to tattoomommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have to do liquids except for the day before surgery. I did watch my calories and ate high protein for the 2 weeks before surgery (on my own; not doc's orders). -
Anyone head of it? I just saw it at the gas station. Looks like flavored water. 15g protein, 2g carbs, 70 calories. There were 4 different flavors.

Hello Everyone, I am doing something that I feel I need to do. Today I have started my 90 Day Challenge. I have researched for months and have attempted to do this but always failed. I am going to basics, I guess you can say. I started a plan that I will drink 4 meal replacement shakes (Wonderslim taste great to me) and 2 meals of 300 or less calories. I will be eating 1000 to 1200 calories a day. My eating is so out of control and I need to take away foods and start adding back. I am pre sleeve and I know this will help me prepare for life after the sleeve. Also this is my last attempt to do it on my own. I don't have a date yet for my surgery but I know it is a good idea to loss as much prior to surgery as possible. I am sure that I can have a date sometime in September (Have 1 more psyc visit this month) and then I just have to sign paperwork and set a date. My surgeon was trying to get me in this month but the psyc appointment took 3 weeks before my first visit and another 2 for second visit. During this challenge I will be drinking at least 64 oz of water, taking my vitamins (created what I believe I need), exercising 30-60 minutes at least 5 days a week, finding something fun to do on the other 2 days (play the Wii with my daughter and racquetball), using my fitness pal for food journal, journal my feelings and not eating pass 630 pm. I am using this forum as a way to be accountable. I have noticed that I eat when I am not physically hungry but I am an emotional eater. If I am bored, stressed, lonely, tired, and etc. I am also addicted to carbs. It's like a crack addict has to have a fix. I need carbs so I have to break this addiction in my life. I am saved (born again, spirit filled believer) and I love Jesus and I know Him to be my helper and strength and a mighty deliver. So as I take this journey I invite you to come alone and make one of your own if you like. My dates are August 15- November 12. I have small goals to keep me on track along the way. My focus now is the first 21 days. LadyBlue31 Embracing the Journey
