  1. I agree. Regular yogurt is just icky now. I stick with greek yogurt as well. If I want to add sweetness, I just add sugar free pudding powder, or sugar free syrups to sweeten it up. I still use it for all recipes that call for sour cream. I rarely buy sour cream anymore.
  2. I am using it now and am 6 days out of surgery. It's awesome. I have a tube of that which is 42g of protein then have a 23g shake and a 12g yogurt and that does it for the day. Great favors like watermelon and blue raspberry. I add 4oz of water because it is very sweet.
  3. Yes I have gone through a few long plateaus! I guess it will depend on a few things, how much you eat, what you eat, how much you have to lose etc.. What I did and it broke my stall was basicly go back to basics, grilled chicken, deli meats, tuna fish, veggies, yogurt, Protein shakes, cheese, nuts, I try my best to stay away from white carbs (bread, rice, potatos) If I want some bread type stuff I have low carb wraps, or the lower carb wasa crackers.
  4. I don't do much different than what was listed above - I've been fortunate to be able to reach my daily protein, liquid and vitamin goals since pre-op Week 1. I still have a protein shake each day (but I have fun with the blender and recipes!), and focus on protein I can handle at this stage - Greek yogurt (only the flavored ones - that unflavored stuff is nasty to me), fat free refried beans with lowfat cheese, turkey chili (blended), various Campbell's Healthy Request soups (blended), etc. When I grocery shop now, I look for higher protein foods that I know I can handle. I'm still in the "puree" stage and found that food still needs to taste GOOD for me to want to eat it!
  5. Call me crazy but I am practicing for my liquid pre op diet. My doctor requires a two week liquid diet pre operatively. The list says no fruit or yogurt😐. I don’t want to go into the two weeks cold and set myself up for cheats and extreme bitchiness. Has anyone prepped for the liquid diet by doing a few days here and there leading up to surgery?
  6. For the full liquid phase, which I did for 2 weeks after my sleeve: Fat free Greek plain yogurt (sweeten with Stevia-it's good) sugar free Jello Sugar free chocolate pudding Organic chicken broth (added my unjury Protein powder to it-yum) Cream of chicken or cream of celery (my favorite) Soup (again, added the Protein Powder to it) That was about all I felt like eating. Mostly did the yogurt, Protein shakes and cream of celery soup. Did not feel like having much at all, and my appetite is just now starting to increase at week 5 post op.
  7. Designer whey is 100 calories per scoop. With the shakes I make (adding 2 scoops, apples, bananas, strawberries and agave nectar and 1/2 of fage greek yogurt and 6oz of skim milk) it makes 44 oz (I split it up between the day or sip all day) and the whole thing is just under 500 calories. So if you divide that into 8oz servings (comes out to 5 and 1/2) that's just around 100 calories per serving. Making your own and using fresh and natural ingredients is always best.
  8. Regina, That is correct--you do not have to use the shakes at their office. The nurse said Atkins are allowed and I believe it's listed on their paperwork under "liquids". I also love fruit flavors so I bought some frozen fruit in the bag and the vanilla Atkins shakes and blended about 1/2 cup fruit into a shake. Or I used low fat plain yogurt, some skim milk and the frozen fruit to make a smoothie. Wasn't perfect but it gave me the change of taste that I needed. walmart had frozen peaches, mango, strawberry and pineapple. Just watch the calories and use small amounts. I was able to stay under the 800 calorie total each day even with a smoothie. Dr. Watkins office has a support group meeting the second monday of each month at 6:30. I went to the July meeting even though I was pre banded and it was great. I plan to go again in august. They give ideas and helpful hints there too. Mason33 is correct--the staff is excellent---the hospital was amazing and the whole experience has been better than expected. I'm on day 3 post op and hopefully it's all better from here. I've been able to go to the store, do dishes, laundry, sweeping--light work and I go back to work tomorrow full-time. As long as you have an option to sit once in a while for your teaching event---it sounds like it could be done (if it were me). Let us know if you need to vent during the diet. Even though I wasn't having hunger pains, I realized how very much I missed food and that was hard to get over at times. Just kept telling myself that it was in my head and not to let it win. Vicki

    12 days since banding...

Hello...I too was banded March 2...i am on a full liquid diet, I eat mashed up homemade soups and yogurt. This morning I has a hard boiled egg (chopped up very thin) and it went down good, no problems. I am a sweet person and love dessert, a few timed i have had a spoonful of vanilla ice cream...the coldness feel really good after my 1/2 cup of dinner...in 2 more week i will be moving into soft foods, and then a week after that i have an appt for my first fill.....Good luck on your adventure!!!
  10. Chicken anything! Chicken is not my friend ! I can pretty much eat anything but I tend to stick with a chosen few foods that I constantly eat alllllllll the time. Chili, egg salad, tomato soup, quest bars, deli turkey, any kind of cheese and Greek yogurt ! Not much variety but keeps me within my limits
  11. I couldn't do the shakes or the Isopure - at all. I couldn't get them down. If you are eating eggs and cottage cheese, you should be fine. Add some yogurt if you can handle it, greek ogurt has the most protein, but is strong in flavor. Make some homemade chicken broth (boil a real chicken, don't use powder) that will have lots of good collagen in it. You can also try to stir a little bit of protein powder into your cottage cheese to give it a boost. Try drinking milk too. Stay hydrated and do the best you can--- Good luck!

Help! Does Anyone Actually Plan Meals?

I went shopping for things like Protein to see what I liked. I made a list of foods I really like and made a shopping list. Then I came home and took a calendar, one day at a time, and put my foods on the calendar. Since I am not the only one cooking, it helps whoever is cooking, to get things ready the night before. I did use the nut's advice about how many servings of protein, dairy, etc. when making shopping list. Since I hate milk, I opted for plain non-fat greek yogurt and added my own fresh fruit.

    Restarting my journey.

Good afternoon everyone, back at work today. Slow but I'm getting around. For breakfast had small hard boiled egg with medium size coffee. Around 10:00 apple sauce and for Lunch just had chicken soup broth I have a yogurt that I'll eat later about 2.
  14. I'm confused why I can have jello but not yogurt on the first few wks post surgery. Does anyone know why ? Thanks ! Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

Why no yogurt in first 2 wks post OP?

I was also allowed yogurt. The first 2 weeks of my plan were full liquids.

whew! got it off my chest!

Ive never drunk protein shakes ever, in six years of being banded. Theyre not seen as necessary in australia. Ive never had any problems. A simple fruit smoothie madevwith fruit, yogurt and milk has plenty of protein. So does decent broth you make yourself.
  17. If you HAVE to eat, you can always make sugar free Jello. It is a clear liquid. You can also mix clear Knox Gelatin with your Protein drink.. Directions are on the Knox box.. To make jello. You can freeze them to make Popsicles or fudgesicles and, if your doc allows yogurt, mix chocolate powder in to make pudding. Shave ice, add Liquid Protein to make a slushy or snowball.
  18. I have almost identical story, first lapband then bypass. I am 4 weeks post surgery and I have no idea what to eat. I don't want what they want me to eat, I just don't feel like eating. I like to eat apples, greek yogurt is also OK, but I don't care for cottage cheese. Can you tell me what you ate? You are doing so well.
  19. I am not able to eat breakfast anymore unless its something soft like yogurt. Anyone else have this problem? I also cannot tolerate ANY bread, ANY rice except for sushi rice and pretty much no pasta....
  20. Hi Barbra, Good answer Tanya. I still have your bowl of Soup in the freezer. You didn't come to TOPS last night. Maybe next Tuesday. LOL Barb are you suppose to be doing 2 weeks liquids? I wouldn't do the chicken salad so soon but the egg salad is definately softer and will go down easier. Don't forget to take your drinks with you; Water, gatorade or crystal light. I bring Breakfast and lunch to work everyday. I bring or keep these things at work; cheese sticks, grapes, soup, yogurt, sf pudding, oatmeal, and always a Protein drink. I never want to get sick at work. Good Luck chew, chew, chew

    Pre-Op Diet

I was about 100 lbs overweight and my doctor also put me on the pre-op liquid diet. I asked at his office why they don't do everyone, and they said it is determined during the examination by the surgeon. I think if he/she thinks the liver is fatty and they want to shrink it to make surgery easier they do it. I had Atkins Advantage (ready to drink) and EAS Advantage (powder to mix with skim milk), purchased at Target. I found Worldwide Protein shakes (ready to drink) at Trader Joe's in vanilla and chocolate. It comes in 21g and 35g of protein, and to me tastes better than Atkins. I discovered recently that GNC and the Vitamin Shoppe carry Worldwide, and it also comes in banana cream, Cookies and cream, and strawberry. I found them online so I don't know what the stores carry. They only had 35g online. At Trader Joes the 21s cost $1.69 and the 35s cost about $2.29. There is also a website called unjury and they sell powdered protein to mix with skim milk or Crystal Light(the strawberry flavor only for Crystal Light). Comes in strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, chicken Soup (kind of like chicken broth), and unflavored. I found a cookbook link to livingafterwls.com and bought the cookbook, recipes all by wls patients. One is super easy: make up a package of sugar/fat free Jello pudding, adding a scoop of unflavored Unjury. This bumps up the protein content of the pudding. On the full liquid diet I could have broth, tea, coffee, cream Soups, sugar/fat free popsicles and pudding, yogurt, V8 juice, fruit juice (diluted 50% with Water to reduce carbs) and Protein drinks. To ease me into the liquids, the dietician said I could have a small amount of lean protein, so at night when I would tend to overeat the most, I grilled two unbreaded chicken breast tenders and put salt and pepper on them, or I had two hard boiled eggs with salt and pepper. Four days before surgery strictly liquids. I lost around 35 pounds before surgery. I was a little hungry during the day, but I expected that, and work is so busy I didn't have time to dwell on it. So far I have lost 65 pounds. I was banded 3/25/08.

Meat Just Ain't What It Used To Be

I've found that I really like my chicken either grilled or boiled with a little Water and some spices. I also am a fan of salad dressings now in a way that I never was before! I keep some ranch, vidalia onion, and italian dressing in the fridge at all times. The italian dressing is great to use instead of oil to cook chicken. Egg Face says that the key to eating meat after WLS is moisture, and she's right. She makes tons of different sauces/dips for her meat and that inspired me to keep the dressings on hand. I also like yogurt (unflavored greek right now) because I can mix in seasonings if I want something "italian" or "mexican" flavoried. There are tons of pre-seasoned meats for sale in the freezer section, but I usually will read the ingredients to see how something is prepared and then try to re-create that item at home. I also buy frozen wings, legs and thighs and will cook one or two at a time because I find the serving sizes on most prepared frozen dinners are too big for me now. THAT's a huge change from pre-op when I felt like they were way too small! Oh, and I really love Beans now. They weren't my favorite before surgery, but now I'll throw some beans in the crockpot and eat them alone or with a small piece of meat for lunch or dinner. Yummy!! Each of us learns what works for us by trial and error, so don't be afraid to experiment.
  23. You are doing great! Your only 2 weeks out and this is a time to coddle your stomach. I was doing soups, Protein drinks, yogurt, pudding sf, until 3 weeks out. I could hardly eat anything. I don't drink fluids with my meals. I follow the rule of 30/30. 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. Take it one day at a time. Oh, btw, protein drinks count as liquids at this point in your recovery. Are you on a PPI? You could be experiencing hunger when it's actually acid or gas in your stomach. A PPI is omeprazole, nexium, tums, etc. If in doubt call your surgeon's office for a prescription. GOOD JOB and CONGRATS on your success!

    Severely Missing Food

I'm having a hard time with just liquids. I'm 2 weeks post op as well and all I want to do is chew something. I can have yogurt and pudding...Just not the same. I don't even want anything fatty I just want to chew. I miss salty as well. The broth is ok...but man this is hard. I get to have oatmeal on Wednesday. That might help. Examples of pureed/soft foods

I never puréed anything for my husband and I. We continued shakes, mashed up soft scrambled or boiled eggs, soft refried beans, and chili which had no large clumps of anything. Add in yogurts, small curd cottage cheese, and mashed avocado, and I am very good at making bisques and quiche with no crust. Small bites, chewed very well.
