  1. Had surgery same day. On my follow up I was allowed to start with soft eggs, refried beans, cream of wheat or rice, malt o meal, low fat or non fat cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, canned fruit unsweetened and make sure it is peeled, sf pudding, laughing cow cheese. I try to keep more to the protein side, and I make sure I get at least 60 gms of protein, protein for you though should be higher. Starting now, I can have string cheese, deli meat, baked, broiled, grilled fish or seafood, water packed tuna, light or reduced calorie yogurt. I'm actually taking this from my nutrition guidelines provided by my clinic. They give up a notebook, outlining what to expect, what to eat, where we can get it. Great reference. I still try to avoid potatoes as it causes my BS to raise, but have tried some. Also states in the book to have only about 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup, also I see soft cooked green beans and soft cooked carrots. Deli meat is 1 oz. Tuna is 2 tablespoons with light mayo or miracle whip. Hope this gives you some idea and helps. Just make sure to stay hydrated that is the most important, without fluid you are gone in about 10 days, without food it is about 30 days.
  2. Hi! So sorry to hear of your troubles. I had a good run of 16 years..well at 14 years I made that fateful decision to just a checkup and found the esophagus expanded...if I never did that checkup, I would probably still have the band. But of course the esophagus was a problem..otherwise, I was maintaining my weight at 150 for years..didn't have any pain or issues..the real problems didn't start until I got that fill at the local surgeon down here who I believe infected me..that started the trouble with the port and tubing and then this last infection..but my doctor said it was probably time anyway..I got banded a few years after it was approved here in the states..so not many people banded much longer than me..at least that I have found.. Does your insurance company require you to do two separate surgeries and jump through all the hoops in between? That was my problem here..I could have had it all done for free but no way was I going to do two surgeries, wait at least three months in between and have to do all the psych evals and other dietary BS that the newbies have to do and should do..but being banded 16 years should mean I am way past that!! Insurance sucks here!! But I also wanted my more experienced doctor in Mexico to take care of this and took a chance that all was fine and I could get it all done at once. So happy it turned out that way!! Best of luck in your journey for revision..hope it all goes smooth..would love to stay in touch with other band to sleevers here..we are definitely different than the first time patients...hard to relate!!!

    All things cheese

I eat all the cheese I want as long as it is real cheese (no fake cheese BS like American or Provel) and it is full fat. Low fat cheese has carbs and more fillers. I like the extra then cheddar slices for my burgers. One slice is 50 calories and it adds just enough cheese. And I eat a lot cream cheese. I make low carb cream cheese pancakes and I have cream cheese as deserts/snacks.

    I Have f**king Had It!

Justine13-we aren't passing judgement-we are trying to help her. She may not like what she hears but it is the truth. Sometimes you have to use tough love when someone is that down or fed-up. We don't want her giving up already-we want her to be a success. Please don't take what I posted or what Amazon13 posted as being judgemental-that was not my intent & I dount it was Amazon13's either.
  6. Kirk- That was very inspiring! You're weight loss is awesome! I often wondered why people didn't belive how much I weighed and I didn't realize it until more recently that it is bc I am alot more toned then most people my weight!

    Compulsive Overeating

Thanks for starting this Laura, and thank you all for your honest and thoughtful revelations. I keep writing more than this, but can't seem to say what I mean yet. Yes, eating food has been an act of self medication for me. During the years where I did some heavy reflecting on the whole process.. I realized that I was not getting the satisfaction I wanted from eating...I could eat anything I wanted really, this is a first world problem... and would... and come out the other end, unsatisfied. I would be full, I would be numbed, I would be fed, I would be stimulated by the taste...but I didn't get what I wanted from it... what is it I wanted anyway? Satisfaction. Now I don't know if the dissatisfaction was mental, chemical, or what... driven by insulin resistance? By unhappiness? By feelings or what? What kind of hunger? Perhaps a mix. I have to say that now I still get that hunger, and eating carbs (straight sugar content) will get me there quicker for sure... I want more, I eat more, I am not satisfied in the way I want... but must getting something, because I go back for more..... what I got was fat. Does the body want to be fat for survival reasons? Anyway... I have to say, that the sleeve helps that some (perhaps the ghrelin reduction) and the 5:2 protocol leaves me more satisfied. Even if I eat some sugar (not a lot....danger Will Robinson!!) but I think the fasting part, the longer rest between meals, helps me to feel satisfied more with what i eat... to see it a little bit more as fuel... the day after the fast, I have better restriction, and a little bit of a noticeable satisfaction from my emptiness. Its such a relief. I don't feel as much like I need to medicate with the food. I'm not saying its totally gone, just a little less... which makes life a little easier. I think about food waaaay too much... just following the tracking, weighing and reading labels, and cooking means I have to think about it to stay on track, but the "extra" thinking about it, that goes beyond that, the obsession, its not as much now. Off track? Sorry, train of thought... you should see all the stuff I threw out before posting this!

    Girly Problem/pill question.

Delarla - you actually should not skip periods unless you are on a medication that causes this to occur. Commonly depo, nuvaring and some BC will cause you to have very light periods and sometimes not have them monthly. Not having a period (commonly occurs with PCOS), can actually increase your chances of cervical and other female cancers. I have PCOS and am HORRIBLE at remembering to take a pill everyday - thus another reason I chose the Nuvaring. WILLBETHIN - yes you can take BC - I have just chosen a method (nuvaring) that does not require pills and lightens your period and cramps.

    Girly Problem/pill question.

I don't know if you are on any form of BC, but I used to have BIG TIME problems with PMS and cramps - I changed to the Nuvaring and now my monthly episode is almost non-existant. No more cramps and barely any period. If you are on BC - I would highly recommend the nuvaring!! (no taking pills everyday either!)

Hi ALL... Hope you are all having a great weekend! Pat... I'm so sorry about your friend. (((Hugs))) I'm terrible about going to funerals... I'm such an emotional person that it's almost impossible for me to remain "together". Working with Hospice patients nearly pushed me right over the edge... I was in a constant state of grieving. Sounds like you really have your plate full right now... glad you checked in and hope your pool is ready for you to float around in the cool water with your screwdriver soon! Flowers... let me tell ya...living in a state were nearly everything is an annual sucks...lol. I say that I am not going to buy flowers every year but I just can't help myself! BS??? I didn't see any of that... I have my rose colored LBT glasses on... they work great and they keep me out of trouble! :grouphug: Betty... You must be leaving a smoke trail for as fast as you are moving from one thing to the next! I'm glad you got to relax by the pool... the mind and body need a zen moment every once in awhile to stay healthy! I'm soooo not a sports minded gal... although I loved watching the Tour de France... and I enjoy watching the Packer's. I'm lucky that my hubby isn't a big sports fanatic... we are nicely matched. Cindy... YAY for the end of the school year arriving but I'm so sorry that you have to share that excitement with an uncomfortable family situation. Try and have a good and safe trip... I sure miss seeing your posts so I'll look forward to your return! Eileen... I'm not sure what is wrong with me... I normally HATE exercise... I actually think it's the socialization that I am loving and the exercise just happens to be a part of that. Mmmmmm... I loooovvvveeeee tomatoes!!!! I could just sit in the middle of the plants and eat them while they are warmed from the sun... Yum! My DD wants to see Over the Hedge... how was it???? PAtty... Hey???? What's that sound???? Ohhhhhh...it's CURVES callin your name. Italian charms... Hmmm... I may have to check into that on eBay... sounds like fun! You really are a fantastic parent and teacher and I imagine you make a big difference in many children's lives. Have fun shopping! Mary... Have you ever heard that song by the Dixie Chicks about "Earl"???? IMHO it's a must hear for any woman having a tough time with an Ex. Just hang on and let the little stuff go... save all of your energy for the big stuff... you are going to need it! (((Hugs))) We had a great time at the cabin... it was beautiful... green... and my sister and her family finally were up there as well! We did a lot of work around the cabin but with lots of family time in between. We took a long and beautiful bike ride on Saturday morning... Ahhhhh...the air smelled wonderful and the temp was perfect! It felt like I had a bike seat lodged up my arse for hours afterwards but it was still worth it...lol. We're headed out on the boat today to do a little fishing... it's supposed to be hot and humid so that is the best place to be! TTFN...

What do you tell people at work?

At first I was only going to tell my DH and no one else. Then I decided to tell my MIL and she said that she wanted to fly to TX to help out. I decided to let her and then it all went downhill from there. She then tried to convince me to tell other people in the family bc they were "worried" about me bc she was now coming to TX. So, I ended up having to tell my SIL and Grandmother, Dad, etc. Or else she said she was telling them. So, I decided that I would tell them so they would get my unbiased story. At work, only a couple people know. My boss & HR lady. I was lucky to be traveling right before my surgery this week so I didn't have anyone asking why I was off this week. HOwever, I have a feeling that once I go back on Monday people will be asking. I want to say I had surgery, but then I will get the questions. I hate to lie and say that it was gall bladder bc what if I end up with gall bladder later? I thought that I could say I just had a cyst removed (female stuff) bc I always have issues with that. The reasons I don't want people to know: -Don't judge me -Don't need to hear your opinion -I have made up my mind and only need support

Thanks for the Tums info, BUTTTT,. I eat two every night, I keep the large bottle in my nightstand, otherwise my back kills me, but as soon as I pop two, it's gone instantly . I will keep that in mind though, because during my TT recovery I didn't really use them, but I'm back on them now. I can sleep on my tummy now, woohoo. Sherry, I fed my critters today too, I took three bags of chips and old bread down to the pier and threw it overboard, it was so funny, I thought I was going to be chit on for sure, those seagulls come out of nowhere! Oh yeah, loved the Tattoos, I always wanted a little Casper on my outer thigh, but I was chicken, NOTHING chicken about our Sherry! I fixed a crock of soup today, then tonight made a soup run, took containers to my mom, my son, and my grandson. It was good, but hubby said it needed more "soup", so I had a bottle of Bloody Mary mix I bought today, then didn't like my drink, so I poured almost the entire bottle in the soup, hey it's soup now! I had steak I had cut up for kabobs this summer and used the foodsaver to freeze them, well, it sure made the soup delicious . OK, I'm outta here.

    BCBS- got my approval today!

I can't say that mine has been quick because of insurance issues. I had Cigna before and they wanted me to be dead or dying to even take out my band so this has been a 2 and a half year struggle. BUT I went to my consult on 4/11 and they had to submit for approval to get the band out. Insurance approved on 5/2 the removal and denied the sleeve on 5/7 due to no nut or psych and some other ppwk. We knew that would happen but they wanted to be sure of the requirements before I started jumping through hoops. So I had Psych appt Friday 5/17 and nut appt will be 5/21. Then resubmit for sleeve approval. So it has been relatively quick since consult considering... So I will say that they will give you a list of recommended people to do your Nut and psych and the majority are one month out but I called everyone on the list because I cannot afford to wait one month as my insurance will change 7/1 of this year So I saw Dr. Patrick for Psych he got me in within 1 week and he was great! Also for Nut I am going to the Forrest park dietitians bc they got me in within 1.5 weeks. Hope that helps if you are looking for quick turnaround. Insurance took 1.5 weeks to review original sleeve request so I expect it will be about the same when we resubmit next week. Good luck and I look forward to hearing about your journey

    No insurance route

I opted self pay in Mexico due to my insurance making me jump through hoops. I didn't have a co-morbidity that was required, other than possible sleep apnea, but it was undiagnosed. It took a month and a half just to get an appointment with them for the sleep study, and then they had to reschedule and it was another month long wait. I got fed up and started researching Mexico. I'd already tried many different 'natural' options for the 5-6 years prior and was sick and tired of playing the waiting game. I went with Dr. Illan, paid $4400, and couldn't be happier with my decision than I am.
  17. So I had my surgery a week from tomorrow and I am still in the hospital. 6 days I'm going crazy! I can't get anything liquid down and they can't send me home bc then ill just get dehydrated. But I'm nauseous 24-7 and dry heaving. Has this ever happened to anyone? Id really like some advice. Thanks! Also the videogram said everything was flowing fine. They even tried taking some Fluid out of the band but still feeling gross.

    What's next?

If it's like what o had its the diet class of the five day liquid pre op and what you eat after the stages it's not the same as all the other dietitian visits bc it's more specific to the surgery. Don't know if that's what your going to but that's what my final pre op class is

Just Totally Random (Name Changed... Lol Because I'm Bored)

I am really having trouble these days getting my Water in. I had a huge kidney stone and had to have surgery because it was too big to pass. Now it's even more important to drink more water. I am just not thirsty. I've never been big on crystal light, but I've been drinking the kind with stevia in it bc it tastes good and that forces me to drink. any suggestions?
  22. Tell them UHC is NOT youR insurer, they are only the paid administrator for your company's plan. The rules of your health plan are made by your company, NOT by UHC. And your company's own plan does NOT have a specified wait. So they need to call your company's plan administrator (UHC), and give your very specific policy number to get the right info, BC UHC rules are NOT your rules, BC UHC IS NOT YOUR TRUE INSURER. UHC works for your company. It's a whole different world. And THAT'S why some people who carry a UHC card have no wait, and others with UHC have a 3-month wait, and still others have a 6-month wait. The many flavors of UHC. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

@shelterdog64. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Doc said it appeared ok but that he has to go back and look at everything and write up a report. It still feels like things are stuck and bc of that it makes me puke or just feel uncomfortable. Also, my stress level has been through the roof. I started back to work today and while I was so excited I had no energy after 5 hours. Also, yesterday was a terrible day. I found out that my fiancées brother was found dead. He was only 30. July is a tough month for me as my sister passed two years ago in July also Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Stalls suck! My scale has been my friend this past week. Broke 260 finally last weekend and then yesterday it showed 249! Again, this is in a nightgown without shoes lol. It's been crazy how fast it dropped this week. So when that stall breaks, be ready to celebrate! I didn't get a chance to eat bfast yesterday bc I was heading out with my mom and aunt. They stopped at a Starbucks and I ordered a bacon Gouda egg sandwich. Took the bread off and ate the egg. Such a bad decision. Miserable the whole time. No eggs for me! I just don't tolerate them. Maybe later on but it isn't something I crave at all, so I am ok if I never can eat them like that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
