Does everyone meet their protein goal every day?

Okay, this morning I did the protein shake, with milk, yogurt and my Injury powder. Got 1/4 of the way done and my IBS hit me out of the blue. I haven't had an issue like that since having surgery. I can do each of these things separately with no issues, but am assuming it's the combination of everything together that my body rejects.

    Skipping ahead of myself

I am 12 days post op and my doctor said I could try to ease soft foods in slowly. I tried a string cheese eating very slowly. I must have bitten off more than I should and I honestly thought I was going to die. I was in severe pain and burning up with nausea. I had to pull over while driving a half hour after and walk around until it passed. I am back to yogurt and shakes for awhile. It definitely made me not want to try anything more so soon. 3. it took me a good 2 weeks to build up to getting 60 grams of protein but now I get over 70 most days. As for fluids what I started doing was adding loads of ice and a tiny bit of water with my protein shakes. I then just sipped all day. It was a good way to get both protein and fluids in one shot. At nearly 6 mths out I still start most days with a protein shake. I use FAGE 0% greek yogurt which is 23 gms of protein per cup, add a scoop of protein powder (Isopure unflavored) which is 26gms per scoop plus any flavorings I want. My protein shakes usually are between 30 - 40 gms of protein. Te rest I get from food. If I'm a little low then dinner is usually a cup of soup with a scoop of Isopure mixed in.
  4. Starting out after 2 wks i finally bought a good vegan type unflavored whey protein powder an i was put at least a tsp in my soup, broths, coffee, hot tea, pudding, yogurt you name it i stuck it in. The more i got the weight dropped. Now i get between 40 to 70 day. An its thru food for majority unless im alone

    HELP!

It sounds as though you may need more calories with that workout. Try skipping the protein bars (many are high in fats and carbs) and have protein rich food (tuna, cheese stick, chicken, greek yogurt, hummus, cottage cheese). You may need to have 5-6 small meals to get enough protein and calories. Stay strong!

    Taste buds changed

I'm only at ten weeks out, so I can't say for sure. However, some things that I used to love make me nauseated just to think about them now. I sat here one day at work last week with a box of doughnuts on my desk all day and never once was even tempted because the smell is just gross to me now. I used to LOVE doughnuts and in the past would have probably eaten 3 or 4 of them. I feel pretty much the same about any sweets now. Heck, I accidentally ate a regular greek yogurt last week with like 18 grams of sugar instead of the light ones with 7 grams and I thought I was going to die because I felt so sick afterwards.
  7. Hi guys, I'm now 8 days into my pre-op liver reduction diet. I eat an average of 5 low fat yogurts a day and 2litres of Water. I've LOST 25lb already in just 8 days. Is there anything wrong in losing too quickly? What has everyone else's losses been like on the pre op diet? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I'm happy to not eat - my body isn't liking it though

Congrats on your loss! I am still in the pre-op phase but I have heard many people say they liked refried beans and cheese, ground beef or turkey pureed with spaghetti sauce and cheese, protein shakes made with greek yogurt and 100% fruit juice. These are just a few things that I said I was gonna try once in that stage. I am loving the GNC banana cream ready to drink lean shake right now. To me it has a good flavor and not an overwhelming protein taste. Hope this helps! Can't wait to see you on the banded side!
  9. i cud have binged all day... every day.. and be comfortable... after being banded.. i think it honestly depends on what i eat.. um like if i eat yogurt.. imma be hungry in 2 hrs.. ( and by yogurt i mean 6 oz) if i eat 6 oz of beef.. i would more than likely be full for a good 6 or 7 hrs. my meals are pretty much abt 6 to 8 oz of anything on any given day.

Check in: Week of Nov 17th Sleevers!

Hello fellow November sleevers! Surgery date: Nov 19th preop diet weight: 460 Surgery weight: 430 Current weight: 412 I had a great surgery with very little pain and almost no nausea. I keep feeling better and better everyday. I went from not being able to stand for more than 5 minutes at a time to walking 3 miles yesterday which was a huge victory for me. I am not able to eat very much about 2oz at a time and I don't even feel like eating that. I am so sick of Protein shakes the taste is just to much to even think about so I have been getting in my protein from GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder mixed into greek yogurt. It takes me all day to eat 2 yogurts (10oz) but it gets me my 84g of protein and the rest of the day I focus on my liquid intake. It is amazing to not be hungry all the time. It was also amazing to see all that food on Thanksgiving and to be happy with just my yogurt. I have been obese since early childhood and I have no idea what it is like to not be obese. I really hope I get to experience a normal BMI at least once in my lifetime. But for now I will be grateful for the ability to walk again. Being able to go on a walk with my husband and dogs overwhelmed me yesterday to the point I want to cry tears of joy as I write this. I look forward to many more tears of joy on this journey!
  11. No problems with gas really right now. But I am eating yogurt and have had no lactose issues
  12. mtraverse

    Plain protein powder

I add mine to my Greek yogurt to get extra protein which equals about 15gms with 2oz yogurt and half scoop protein powder. Plus it is really good with some raspberries or bananas added

    7 Days Pre-OP

I was banded 3/25/08, and put on liquid diet for 2 weeks prior (ended up being 3 weeks as I caught a cold and my surgery was postponed a week, not enough time to stop and start again, so I stayed on it another week). Up until 4 days before surgery I could have a small amount of lean protein, which I saved for the evening when I tended to overeat the most. I had either 2 hard cooked eggs with salt/pepper, or 2 unbreaded chicen tenders grilled with salt/pepper. For liquids I could have broth, clear or cream soups, protein drinks, fat/sugar free popsicles, fat/sugar free jello, yogurt, water, tea, coffee. I knew I would be hungry during the day, but my job is busy so I was able to ignore it. I found I do boring really well. Don't have to think too much about what is for dinner, just keep the freezer full of popsicles and the cabinet full of soups and broths. I even found a way to have cheese. If you heat tomato soup, and break up a couple slices of Kraft Fat Free cheese, it melts and you have cheesy tomato soup, a liquid. It really jump started my diet. I increased my exercise with walking and by surgery had lost 35 pounds. The rest has come of since then. Good luck with your surgery.:behindsofa:
  14. I am at 5 months out and I notice that I do not stay under the recommended 800 calories per day put keeping my Protein between 60 -80 grams. What do others eat throughout the day to stay where you need to be. I usually eat yogurt and a fruit for breakfast, tuna fish and salad for lunch, a snack in the afternoon of a Protein Bar and dinner is meat (fish, chicken, pork) and a veggie and a protein snack at night. I have been stalled for about 4 -5 weeks now and need help. And yes I do exercise 5 days a week walking for about 40 minutes at a fast pace.
  15. I was banded yesterday (go ME!) and feel a little miserable today. Totally expected (thanks to this website!), but am feeling a bit nauseated and have severe pain in my right shoulder. Having trouble staying hydrated, haven't ingested anything but Water (sip, sip sip). I am afraid to try and eat "food liquids" that are on my diet plan, such as Protein shake, broth, yogurt, Jello, for fear of making my nausea worse. What did you eat(drink) the first couple of days out from surgery?
  16. It's interesting how this surgery affects people so differently. Yes, a hot dog probably wasn't the best choice, but honestly, you could have had this reaction to anything you ate. I was on clear liquids ONLY for the first week, and when I had my first protein shake WOAH - it gave me serious gas, weird indigestion gurgling sounds and mild pain in my stomach. And that was something that was liquid! I'd say part of what you're going through is just your stomach saying "WHAT IS THIS!??!?" because it's been on the liquids for so long and is getting used to digesting what it's had so far. Then you over eat this dense food and your tummy is just letting you know it's not ready for all that! What helped me were gas-x strips - really helps with the gas, and fast! Also, walking around helps too. Drinking too much water on top if the full tummy sounds good in theory, but it doesn't always work like that. With how small your stomach is, the water could really 'over fill' your tummy and make it more painful. Try to get moving if you can! I hope it works itself out soon. I'm 17 days post op and I'm eating lots of stuff. I don't know if I have one of those sleeves of steel, but I haven't been sick once. No nausea, vomiting or pains - aside from the protein shakes, which still give me some gas, but not pain like the first time - and I'm having deli meats, low carb flat bread, yogurt, cheeses, cottage cheese... lots of stuff. I plan to try some fish this week, and canned chicken, then in a few weeks I'll try some veggies (coincidentally, my local farmers market will be open then, yay!) I certainly didn't have this surgery to be on a diet for the rest of my life. I like hot dogs every once in a while and plan to have them when I'm ready for it... so I'm not shaming you there. But considering we only get so little in us in the beginning, I'm trying to make it as good as possible. Deli meat isn't something I would normally have that often because of the salt and nitrates, but because it's something that I can tolerate now, I'm having it. While I am able to eat all these things, I can't eat much of it, and that's the key for me. So what if I had deli meat, it was ONE SLICE! I never thought I'd be completely full on just 1 banana for breakfast. The shakes are saving me with protein intake, because I really don't eat much. But when I DO eat, I can handle everything I've tried so far... I guess that's just lucky on my part. I definitely hope this passes for you soon!
  17. Obviously how one feels after surgery is different for everybody. I was lucky, not too much pain just some discomfort, I was walking around the same afternoon. The gas pains are annoying but they go away fairly soon. I had a specific plan to follow for the re-introduction of foods. One thing will remain the same, try to get in at least 64 oz of liquids every day and 60-80 grams of Protein. Most people start with a couple of days of Clear Liquids, Isopure for protein (you can buy it at Vitamin Shoppe or GNC) decaf coffee and decaf tea, all sugar free non-carbonated drinks, chicken, beef or vegetable broth, SF Jello and SF popsicles.....after that full liquids including regular Protein shakes, creamy soups, thinned out hot Cereal, thinned out yogurt, SF puddings, jello. After 2 weeks, move to pureed or mushy foods, hot cereals, softly scrambled eggs, soups, softly cooked meats and veggies (think crockpot meals) yogurt, cottage cheese with fruit, refried Beans with melted cheese, chili beans, mashed potatoes with canned chicken and gravy, tuna and any soft fish, stuff like that. At this stage of the diet, I was still drinking 2 protein shakes to meet my daily goals and lots of decaf hot and iced tea. At 4-6 weeks start introducing more solids, start slowly and see how you tolerate foods, move toward being able to get in at least 4 oz of a solid protein, then a non-starch veggie...try and stay away from carbs for the most part, if you do eat carbs have whole grains if possible. At 6 months out I can eat most things but not very much of them. I do still drink a Protein shake each day, and sometimes a Protein Bar as a snack. I was not hungry after surgery and it took a while to normalize and feel hunger come back, but not with a vengeance, and you get full so fast. I have 2 hiccups when I am full and that has happened since I had this surgery. A lot of people get these little burps/hiccups that signal fullness, or a runny nose, it's weird, but a good signal from the body. I feel normal, just that I can only eat very small meals, but you have to eat right to keep losing weight and exercising. That has to continue ...so be prepared, the sleeve is a tool, but you still have to make the right choices. I am so happy with my sleeve...down to a size 14 from a 3X-4X and I can walk for miles, and none of my old clothes fit, they are tent size on me....this is the best decision I ever made for myself. Good luck !!!!

    I Suck at Dieting!!!

Wow wish they would put the band in my head ever week or so I can stop thinking and eatting. Iam a year out..I dont keep anything bad in the house so the most I do is over eat yogurt but in the course of the day in can be alot of calories even on good food. This all started when I had to have the band emptied twice and worked my way up but it never was the same. I am up and down 6 lbs and I am happy at this weight but still would like to get to my goal. I am going in for alittle more put in the bsnd and back to the gym (thats been the real problem I think) so I will hang in there.
  20. I am 1 week and 1 day post op Gastric Bypass. Today I started puréed food. Everyone talks about how fast they get full. I know I’m probably over thinking this BUT I had 1/2 of a Greek yogurt around 1:00 and around 6:00 I had a 1/2 cup of a creamy soup. In between I also kept up with my protein shake. I’m comfortable but not over full at all like everyone made it sound that I would be. Can anyone give me a little idea what you are or were taking in around this time please :)
  21. I make two weeks tomorrow and Im still on phase 2 until the 5th week is when I can start eating eggs per the diet the doctor has given me. All I eat is soups, water, protein shakes, popsicles, yogurt, broth, jello and cottage cheese. My problem is making sure I get all my protein in and eating when I dont feel like it and for some reason I cannot stomach the sugar free pudding when I loved pudding before.

It's delicious. I started a Bulgarian strain that was more tart and it came out really runny. Then I started adding powdered milk to it and it thickened up. I haven't made Greek yogurt yet but plan to. You just drain it in an old teeshirt or cheese cloth and let it hang for about an hour to thicken it. Nothing fancy, but it saves a lot of money.

I also make my own yogurt with the same kind of yogurt maker with the little glass jars. It's not enough for the whole family, but I think it will be perfect after I'm sleeved. For every 4 cups of milk I add 1 cup of dry milk and it seems to set up better. The best dried milk I've found is Bobs Red Mill...doesn't taste yucky to me like carnation. You need a good thermometer, and I use a digital one...think I got it from Walmart for not too much.
