I tried the unflavored Protein today and I was able to get i muscle milk shake down and I puréed a lentil Soup and added a scoop of the protein to get in my 51grams of protein. I don't feel hungry or full?! I have to get over the head hunger bc when I look at food I think oh if I could it normal I would eat that!! I'm afraid now that what if this is all for nothing!!!! Thanks for the replies! I know it's not acid bc I take Prilosec everyday, and neither Pepcid trial or Tums trial made it any better. I eat chicken as well, plus tuna, eggs and ground turkey. I tried beef, but did not go so well. I am getting 70 plus grams of Protein in daily, and over 70 oz liquids. I get full fast when I eat, so I stop eating bc I thought I am supposed to stop when my body says stop. Maybe I need to slow eating down more, so I can get a little more in at my mini- meals. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?
Christina.Rose replied to futureskinnybtch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hated getting fills that didn't work at all and then going back in and getting overfilled and not being able to even swallow spit searching for my mythological green zone. I hated eating a too big bite or a bite too much and immediately vomiting. I hated The pressure and pain of getting stuck. I HATED GETTING USELESS REPETITIOUS FILLS.....I am getting sleeved in December and my band has slipped. I also had to move out of state for a job soon after I was banded and could not find a doctor who would take "someone else's" patient so I feel like even though I lost about 50lbs (that I gained back) with the band, that I never got the full benefits from it. Years later I started getting the fills again and I cant stand the lack of precision for finding the green zone. I am fed up. Good luck for your journey! I recommend REALLY staying on top of those fills. They suck but if you have to get that green zone or you are wasting your time and energy. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App -
Crohns Disease and VSG
Butterflywarrior replied to jackieemac's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ugh don't know where my post went... Yes I'm neatly four weeks post op, chronic pain issues unchanged for now but have new awesome energy and diabetes is way better as is blood pressure much more stable... I use stevia since it's natural and also use g6 sports powder from GNC sweetened with stevia bc it's yummy to me especially in non fat milk... if your non lactose intolerant... there'd unsweetened nut milks of course.... I've lost 25lbs so far, and no real complications... I drink premier occasionally if necessary on emergency bc insurance paid for it... but if I drink to much, my tummy reacts badly!! I'm excited for you and me! Therr is a gal in my support group with autoimmune disease as well who said post surgery, her pain got way better and now she's jogging and 150 lbs down in less then a year I believe!! Amazing -
I'm preop in liquid diet...
Butterflywarrior replied to Bouncy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Bums about the hip and they didn't even want me being active on the pre op liquid diet due to risk if hypoglycemia so I don't think exercise is tge issue... Sounds like it might be your metabolism... you can always ask your clinic if there is anything you can do bc your worried... maybe someone here will have a better idea?! -
really!!?? That concerns me bc I keep wondering if what I'm experiencing is normal or not... I've read here from others that tgey felt hungry alot u til they hit the final phase and then things were fine but I noticed ppl in my support group often complain about not being able to drink 8-12oz of Protein Drink in a brief amount of time or taking over a hour or more to drink it I'm able to drink mine right down in around 10-15 minutes.. Meals, I take 20 min to slowly chew and swallow but it takes more then four bites to fill me so that irks me.. .. I get all of my protein in easily supplementing with one shake a day And before I added slow burning carbs and crackers, I felt hungry and I dobt think it's head hunger.. I tried Water distraction...my tummy talked so told my NUT and she suggested tge carbs si now I have one snack with wasa cracker and hummus or Melba and hummus and one of my meals, I included some sort of Beans peas butter beans... It isn't a lot by any means but it has stopped the hunger pangs Still, it scares me a little when I listen to others struggling to eat, get enough protein, etc when I seem to have quite tge opposite problem My only struggle is getting in enough water between meals atm.. huge issue Any tips or thoughts on this....maybe I need to call my surgeons office and complain some more bc I dobt want to slow my weight loss ...

Hopefully after I heal more, I will be able to use a straw again

Pre-Op Cold Feet Due to Family's WLS Disapproval :(
Butterflywarrior replied to Vagrant Violet's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your story is powerful and relatable to me... I got lots of resistance from friends and at first from my mom but in the end it was about me and what I know about myself I did start seeing a psychologist twice a week for my eating and other emotional issues including PTSD and bipolar which was recently dx after over 10 years of a mislabel of major depressive disorder The one thing that concerns me is tge type of surgery your getting.... I was originally going to get RNY but got cold feet, ended up psych hospital and many other health flare ups. My BMI was 52 so rny fit however when my surgeon saw me again a number of months latter, he was vety reluctant to do rny due to the realization that my depression issues are severe and I need so much meds to manage multiple medical and psych conditions. He totally said gastric sleeve was best because the RNY malabsorption can really screw up your maintenance medications and is more complex them sleeve in terms of care. My psychiatrist also shared with me that he has a really hard time adjusting medications in his bypass patients So, I'm not sure why your surgeon hasn't brought this up...maybe he doesn't realize that you have clinical depression...I told my surgeon originally but he still didn't get it until he saw my record in the computer system around a year latter, he got to see the extent of my medical and psych issues and I had been cleared by their psychologist too!! So I'm just being super candid, vulnerable and open sharing my sensitive history with you bc it concerns me a lot My surgeon acknowledged that RNY was ideal for my BMI but not for my mefical/psych history He also asked for a letter from my mental health ppl about my readiness for weight loss surgery. I'm really glad he was through in the end and my mom felt better and supported me too. My therapist knew I read, researched and was more then ready and I have his support along the journey I think your sister and mom have genuine concerns even though loosing weight tge " regular" way is not research supported for really overweight people but you do need to be emotionally prepared for it. Good fortune -
Girrrrrl.???? I'm so sorry you have to deal with that BS I would never dispespect your husband so I'll just say this... he's jealous and insecure. Everybody else can't be wrong! You are looking good and will only continue to look even better! He will become more insecure and try to tear you down. Dont allow it! You need to be very matter of fact with him not during arguments though. I love you but the way you speak to me is intolerable. You really hurt me when you say things like (fill in the blanks) it makes me feel like you don't value me, like your unattracted to me and most importantly unloved. Well I love me! I think I am beautiful and I have plenty to offer. I chose wls after years of trying- to lose weight so for me this was the hard way. So just think that and if you think you might prefer to be with the swimming instructor good luck to ya! Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App

Feel your pain, so lets vent together! I was sleeved 17th Oct, and the first couple days were awesome but its been a steep downhill from there mood, fatigue, and food-wise. My mood swings are pretty crazy, and Im so lethargic its tough to get up most days. My sense of smell has multiplied exponentially, and I gag at almost every little smell, meaning I am def. not getting in enough food or drink bc I cant be near food. Every diet stage has been tough. Uff!! Had a chat with my nutritionist, and she sounded a bit....judgmental...saying that I should just get more Protein and liquids in, that I wasn't following diet etc. Easier said than done, dearest, especially if you're nauseous at the mere sight of food! Its a tough place to be in especially considering this is supposed to be a positive thing. Seriously, I can't even drink from my own glasses or cups anymore, so I am trying new bottled liquids daily. Sigh.... Husband says it will get easier as time goes by. Heres hoping!

Every since being filled a month ago to 7.5cc's in my 10cc Allergan I've lost 13lbs but the night coughs progressed as the weeks went on I went in today (bc I just cldnt take puking my lunch out at 3am in the morning anymore) & had .7 removed he explained that the shallow breathing while sleeping & lying flat allows the contents in your stomach to rise back up thru your esophagus, & into your mouth & cld even come out your nose Even if I had not eaten a single thing that day I'd cough up a brown/black fluid I just want a descent meal now & a good solid 8hrs sleep! Is that too much to ask?!?!?

Scare and Confused
Butterflywarrior replied to Ididit521's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I did my pre op diet of seven days. It was soo hard especially with my mom eating around me and finding out I'm allergic to sugar free stuff I did cheat with a little yogurt and a bite here and there and felt emotionally weak but it happens...you have a full sized stomach, gherkin hormones and more ... Pick up the pieces and start over! Interestingly, I was so sick from vomiting and diarrhea, my surgeon allowed me Protein powder with forbidden skim milk and celery and carrots finely chopped I in my broth so it's not like all or nothing Not saying cheating is okay but also saying calling yourself a failure isn't useful or helpful and this is not likely a prediction of how things will be post op bc you will physically feel totally different and not likely hungry -
Initial appointment frustration
Bufflehead replied to missionslimmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry but I would run far and fast from a surgeon who would say something idiotic like "your body is comfortable at 200 lbs." Find a surgeon who will work with you to set an ambitious and healthy goal and hold you to strict standards in reaching it, not engage in new age BS about where your body is "comfortable" or "happy." -

Online /over the phone psych evals

They contact the insurance company then email an invoice. Once you decide to do the online pschy eval then you pay. You aren't obligated. No loss of money. My NC state bc/bs paid all but 90 of it. Sent from my SM-G920R4 using the BariatricPal App -

Lynkaosgood replied to bitingcat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I giggled at the delivery as well!! You are awesome!!! I had surgery on 11/09/15. Shortly thereafter a horrible series of events happened: we lost our apartment due to an altercation between my husband and a neighbor. Her dog was off leash and attacked our service dog through an enclosed fenced area, and I was pushed to the ground by her shoving me. Hubby defended me and punched her while I was trying to make her dog release mine. Apartment company decided that we had 3 days to move out BC cops were dispatched to our location. The apartments falsely stated we were evicted. Because of the eviction on our record we had a hard time finding a new place. In the meantime I had surgery (before the eviction incident) I lost Tricare prime insurance because we could not afford the premiums. I received Medicaid after Tricare was lost. Here is the kicker: they refused to treat me for all of the side effects that I was having: nausea,gi issues, low blood sugar, blood pressure issues, Vitamin absorption, all fun stuff!! They stated that I should go back to the clinic on post that did my surgery...it was a bad vicious circle. Finally a few months ago, I was able to afford Tricare prime insurance starting in November 2016. Last month I had severe abdominal pains and went to er. It was found that my IUD I had placed a year before surgery was lodged in a inappropriate place. It took an act of Congress to get an appt with an obgyn to have the IUD removed. At that appt, it took 2 people and 2 instruments to remove it in one piece. I had no damage to my lady parts, so I'm still able to carry a child. I'm also highly allergic to the whole cillin family of medicine, as well as coconut. Sent from my Alcatel_4060O using the BariatricPal App -

New to the whole weight loss surgery field! HELP!
Butterflywarrior replied to boots_and_bridles's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I weigh a lot but had to choose sleeve bc the surgeon felt my multiple health issues are to complex for roux en y. Complication with bypass are hard especially if you are on maintenance meds for Chronic health issues... I take psych meds too and they are hsd to balance with bypass Sleeve is a little bit harder to loose lots of weight on bypass is easier since you loose weight Two ways... small pouch plus malabsorption ... bypass roux en y has .ore data and research bc it's older but sleeve is showing really promising results. It is becoming more and more popular... I agree with reading tge research, medical studies and books. I did read some autobiographies for my own edification but not what I based my decision on. If your clinic has a support group, definitely attend!! -
For you to be required to go through this process tells me that you are most likely going to be approved. My surgeon told me that the only reason they make you go through such a lengthy process, is because they are secretly hoping you get fed up, impatient, and decide not to do it (because they don't want to pay for it). Don't get me wrong, the psych eval, heart test, and pre-op support group are all necessary. But the 6 month weigh-ins are basically pointless. You've come this far, so just try your best to keep going! You'll be so glad you did!

I agree with the above. I spent a lot of time reading library books and bought books for cheap online for my reading app. A good one is weight loss surgery for dummies Also, not ur fault but this subject has been asked many times so you might want to use search tool bc there's a lot of great feedback I have my own thoughts on the topic bc I faced the decision but it's a personal decision ultimately and I don't feel like typing my opinion on Mt phone lol however you might we run into it in search bc I have in the past Good fortune -
A thousand times yes. I didn't go looking for anyone who knew about bariatric surgery. I selected someone who specializes in eating disorders and body image problems. The same mental processes behind anorexia typically are behind binge/emotional eating, it's just a different reaction to them. The reasons why are as different as the people themselves. For me, I have several things that intersect to result in my obesity. First, I have a PTSD-type reaction to vegetables because my father repeatedly pinned me down and force-fed them to me as a child. So I don't eat veggies or salads or anything like that, and the reaction extends to foods that are not in my comfort zone. There's also some emotional neglect that has resulted in my using food to self-soothe and I have a hard time with self-discipline. It's almost always about more than just the food. A good therapist is going to help you dig down and identify the root causes of the issues and then help you develop the skills and coping mechanisms to deal with it. I can't recommend therapy highly enough. Sometimes it's challenging to find a therapist with the right fit, but it's worth it.

Realistic Weight Loss Expectations
Postop replied to Mac the Knife's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I never set a goal. I felt it would be too much pressure on me. In the first month, I lost 19 lbs. Compared to other DSers it's wasn't as much. I was happy, though, bc I asked myself when had I ever lost that much weight in 1 month? My suggestion is to use that 12-18 month post op period to its fullest. It's the fastest you'll lose weight (you'll still lose years later if you want to but at a slower rate) so really let the DS work its magic. -
Hands and Feet are itching like crazy.
karieship replied to lmason12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be that you are detoxing from sugar and processed foods. Sugar feeds yeast in our gut and when it is no longer being fed, the yeast dies off. Your feet and hands have more pores than the rest of your skin. When your body is expelling toxins, it can cause severe itching. It can go away for awhile and then come back the longer you stay away from the toxic culprits. Look up yeast detox. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App -
