What the?! Holy smokes, you have shrunk so much since the last pic you posted! Looking good lady. The tank top makes your pants look like high waist-ed ones, so it totally works on you! Re: crop tops...before my tummy tuck, I made sure to wear pants/skirts that were higher waist-ed to hold in any extra skin, and to make sure the tops didn't end higher than my natural waist. AFTER the tummy tuck though, was a different story! Your surgery is like, what, a month away? You wont need to worry about any of this later, unless its a modesty thing (which I, personally, have very little of, lol). Crop tops + ultra-low-rise pants here you come!!! P.S. You can fly a plane through your thigh gap.

Difficulty with injections because of loose skin
WishMeSmaller replied to LaLaDee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you pinching up a fold of skin with underlying fat? If not, that is the best technique for people with less fat/loose skin. There are plenty of pics and videos online if you google it. I am a nurse and have given lots of these subcutaneous injections to very low BMI, older people, with loose skin. It just takes a bit more time to find a spot where you can pinch up enough fat. Reviewing with your doctor is a great idea. Good luck! -

Could you inject it into your thigh instead? Tighter skin there? -
Difficulty with injections because of loose skin
LaLaDee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently on a medication that I take with a subcutaneous injection which I self administer. It's a biologic for autoimmune conditions (not sure if anyone is familiar with Humira). I know some diabetes medications are similarly taken. Basically you stick a needle into that fatty tissue under your skin. I usually take it around my midsection (hips, lower stomach). However, lately I am struggling because I've got more loose skin and the fat isn't packed in tightly anymore. It's been super painful lately. Tonight I really messed up my injection though. I've basically injected it under my skin, I can see a little bubble under the skin. Not sure how it will absorb or what will happen (will see doctor tomorrow). I'm just wondering if anyone has a better solution. My stomach is messed up from weight loss. I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions for future injections. Is there some fat grabbing technique I'm not aware of? Should I find another area to stick the needle (I have a flat bum and similar loose skin issues on my thighs). It's not common to have this much loose skin and I'm honestly not sure what to do. -
Hi. I'm 5 weeks post wls now. I feel really hungry all the time. No matter how much water I drink. I won't say I can eat alot at one but I'm always hungry after few hours. Try to keep it to 3 meals and 2 snacks maximum. I'm afraid I am stretching my pouch already and will never loose weight. Anyone else had the same problem? Plus what about carbs? Do they make you more hungry? Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app

So here I am...almost 2 weeks post op( 2 weeks on Monday). And y'all...the regret is for real. Was not prepared for how painful the incisions would be and how much they would limit how much I moved around, shuffling really even though I was ready mentally to go back out to hiking. Sitting in the car is miserable and I go back to work on Tuesday-an hour commute one way. I can barely tolerate the protein shakes and have basically stopped drinking them, they make my stomach spasm so I have been living off of sugar free pudding with protein powder mixed in, strained soup since broth is to salty and gross and greek yogurt and water. I have made water my priority but even so I have gone from easily drinking 100-150oz on a given day to somewhere between 44-60oz. I am miserable. On top of all this the scale moved the first four days, then bounced back up 15lbs and has not really moved from there. I know I'm losing because I'm tracking inches but it would be nice to get some assurance from the scale. I am also allergic to the skin glue they used so my incisions are red, angry and so f*cking itchy I want to rip my skin off. Living off of Benadryl and hydrocortisone cream at the moment. I am frustrated. Hoping that once I move on to the pureed foods on Tuesday that getting my protein in will be easier and once I am not so sore I will be able to really get moving. It's not all gloom and doom I suppose, I have had no issues with heartburn(I didn't ever prior to surgery), I haven't had any complications, no gas pains to really speak of. I just want to get down all the crap that I'm going through so maybe in a few months when I look back at this I can write something to the tune of "things got better, much better"...fingers crossed. -A

I am about 10 lbs from goal, so I decided to splurge on some nicer tops since 1- you can only see my tops on my work video conference calls and 2- I don't think I am going to go down another size. NSV 1: I'm in a freaking MEDIUM! at 5'10 - holy cow!!! And this isn't a "in specific loose cut tops I can squeeze into a medium" - I ordered a bunch of nice work tops and I fit into ALL the mediums. NSV 2: I bought a pair of knee high boots. They are wide calf, but a narrow wide calf if that makes sense. My legs have always been where I carry a lot of my weight so I've never really been able to wear true knee high boots. They fit perfect (even over pants) and they look GREAT!

What to bring to the hospital?
kellym1220 replied to xoxomaya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I agree with everyone above. Wear something super comfy to the hospital so you can also wear that home. Loose, comfy sweats, a big sweat shirt...nothing that will sit on or touch your incisions. You will be waiting a couple of hours from check in to surgery (at least in my experience) so have a book, a phone or a tablet. After, I set the television on a home improvement channel and just dozed off and on until it was time to go home. -
Hi !! i had my vsg surgery on December third but I’ve been craving so many thing including pickles. Would it be a bad idea to eat a pickle without the skin ? Also, how do you deal with having people in your house eating all the amazing delicious food meanwhile you’re sitting eating puréed food ?

Yes, in general, slow is better for loose skin and for keeping it off. But as Catwoman stated, it does depend on how much weight is lost, age of the person, exercise, water intake....these all affect the skin. If there is 100+ weight loss, there will be loose skin somewhere!
-
I don't know if it makes that much difference, to be honest. If people's skin is super stretched out and damaged, it's not going to bounce back. I suppose if the person isn't all that overweight to begin with, it might, though...

Isn't slower better, to keep from getting loose skin?

I got some and my surgeon has me using palmers on it because I have "baby skin". Ask your surgeon if they can recommend anything to help your skin during the weightloss, everybody has variations to skin and he/she can actually see yours.

Questions From a Pre-Op Patient
STLoser replied to Spitfireash's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have 5 incisions. 3 are tiny and 2 are about an inch long. I. Had a Loop DS. I'll be 5 months out next week and the scars are sort of purplish but barely noticeable to me now. I have lost 102 pounds (about 70 since surgery), and while I don't have a lot of loose skin yet, I imagine I will have a lot since I have about 100 pounds more to lose. I know my lower stomach and upper thighs will be the worst. My arms have always been small for my size and I don't think they'll have much. I don't care..I will consider surgery if any of it is cumbersome or uncomfortable but at 49 years old I am not too worried about it. I would prefer not to have more surgery. I'll gladly take loose skin to be healthy. My liquid diet was 2 weeks and it was clear liquids and 3 protein shakes a day. I was also on the same liquid diet for 2 weeks post op and then a week of full liquids. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app -

I had five incisions in line with my belly button. They were small 10-15mm. They healed over a couple of weeks. I used bio oil too & now I have to look hard to see the scars: they’re little faint lines. Yes, you’ll have saggy skin. It stretched out carrying your weight. Factors like your age, gender, genetics, how long you were at your highest weight, how overweight you were all impact how much sagging you’ll have. As catwoman7 said saggy skin is better than being obese & unhealthy & you can have skin removal. I didn’t have much loose skin when I reached my goal weight but I do have more on my upper inner thighs & upper arms now that I’ve lost more. I just don’t wear short shorts or strappy or strapless tops. I’m just wearing ordinary cotton hipster briefs under this dress. Oh, & my breasts are pretty deflated. Walking is excellent post surgery. Start walking at the hospital to help get rid of the gas they fill your abdomen with during surgery. Your surgical team will probably advise when you can start to increase your activity or introduce other options. I was put on a keto diet for 2 1/2 weeks pre surgery so I can’t advise on what your diet requires. Your dietician or surgeon should have given you a plan to follow. Good luck. -

• I think the number of incisions depends on your surgeon, and your surgery. I had a sleeve. My surgeon mentioned there would be 5 incisions, but I only ended up with 4 for me. Usually heavier people have fatty livers, and the liver is retracted during the procedure for better visibility for making the cuts. However, my liver was so small that they didn't need to retract it at all so they skipped that incision. Part of the purpose of the liquid diet is to help shrink your liver. So be strict on your liquid diet as it makes the surgery easier on your surgeon, increasing the results of an issue-free surgery. • The healing doesn't take long in terms of closing up, and depending on when your surgery is, it's not really a big deal for anything (mine was smack in the middle of summer so I didn't get to swim for the second half of summer, but that's no issues for winter patients! ) • Exercise, and moisturizing will help your skin as much as anything else. Keep a tight strong core - start working out before your surgery. Excess skin was something I was so insecure about in the beginning (thinking about having it made me not want the surgery), but now after having the surgery I'm not nearly as worried about it because I feel SO much better about myself (that said, I don't yet have any loose skin yet, maybe I'll sing a different song when it becomes an issue.) My mother who also had the surgery said it well once. Something to the effect of "You may still feel insecure out of your clothes because of your skin, but I can tell you I feel infinitely more confident in my clothes than I ever have." • Early on, just walking is going to be great exercise. I sort of rolled my eyes at this answer pre-op because I love to lift, run, etc. The surgery itself will WEAR YOU OUT. For the first week post-op I joked that my shower was my daily workout. Literally just washing my hair would make me need to lay down and rest after my shower. Don't rush it and listen to your body. Now at 5 months out I do crossfit with no restriction or issues.. However, I can tell that I've lost muscle from the limited protein intake. I feel like I'm starting all over again building strength! • Others have answered this - you're going to be drinking lots of protein! -

I had RNY (I think there's one wound with the VSG that's a bit bigger - the one they pull your stomach through - but the rest are really small - like all of mine were). They were tiny, and I can't see them at all anymore. amount of excess skin depends on a lot of factors - your age, how overweight you were, how LONG you were overweight - as well as others. Most of us have at least SOME (I lost over 200 lbs, so I had A LOT). However, you're likely the only one who will notice. I eventually had mine removed because it was driving me nuts, but my husband was the only person who ever knew it was there. You couldn't tell at all when I was wearing clothes. Here I am BEFORE I had it removed. Most of mine was on my abs (although I had it on my arms and boobs, too), but I just tucked the ab skin into my pants and then wore slightly oversized, long-ish tops to hide it. Ta da! No more loose skin... honestly, most people worry A LOT about the loose skin when they're pre-op or early post-op (I did, too), but most of us who are out a ways wonder why we worried so much about it. It's kind of a minor thing in the grand scheme of things, and it's usually not noticeable to others. And if it really bothers YOU, there's always plastic surgery. I think most of us would take the loose skin any day of the week over being morbidly obese again. I know I would! -
JUST GORGEOUS - as is your enduring porcelain white beautiful skin... Definitely rock star manicured toes, footies and shoes! You are always the complete package. :]

Scar healing/fading will vary from person to person. You could probably predict where you will fall on the scale by how YOU healed historically. I am on the far end of the scale of slow/bad healing/fading. I am 2+ years out from surgery and my scars are still pretty dark. They have faded somewhat from the early months (and at least now they are flat!) but they are still very noticeable (see pic below...the scars pointed at by red arrows are my WLS incision scars which are 2 years, 2 months old. My belly button is also healing from scarring from plastics 1 year ago.) Generally though, for ALL scar care, it is often recommended to keep them clean and dry while healing, and then moisturize often when they close. Also, it's recommended to reduce alcohol during healing (as it may act as a blood thinner and prevent clots), and refrain from smoking (as it may affect healing as well: stress on heart, de-oxygenates blood, etc, etc...). Further, there has been some evidence of Retinol and Vitamin E topical applications to help by stimulating collagen growth which reduces the appearance of skin imperfections.... Edited to add: Just remembered! For really bad scars, I can vouch for steroid shots. I had some applied to the arm lift scars on my arm a few weeks ago and they have visibly improved. Still not to the level of near-invisibility like i've seen on others (i'm looking at you @sillykitty), but def much better than before.

Same. I'm almost 11 months post op and when I saw this post I checked and could only find one and have no idea where the other four are because I can't see them. And I'm paler than pale (when I used foundation I use the lightest foundation there is and it's slightly too dark for my face and I have to blend the heck out of it, that's how pale skinned I am. My family teases that I'm like snow white. I don't even know how it happened either since everyone else in my family has like tanned skin and wears beige foundation -_-" I blame the red hair)

Questions From a Pre-Op Patient

So I have a few questions for those of you that have already had the surgery or have the knowledge. These are just questions which are zipping through my mind constantly. 1. Scarring. What kinds of scars to expect and the location of the scars. 2.How long does it take for the incisions to heal? How many incisions are there normally? 3. Excess skin. Is there a lot of excess skin after weight loss? Is there a way to avoid it? 4. Exercise. What kinds of exercise besides walking is good for post-op 5. When they say liquid diet pre-op, is it all liquids or only clear liquids? -
So, I'm 5 months out and my scars are still very pink. When did the visibility of your scars improve? Mine are SO obvious still against my pale skin... I feel like the color will never change.

I'm 2+ years out and have basically crossed off all the things that were on my as-soon-as-I'm-smaller bucket list, except one: The entire fam became avid scuba divers about 6-7 years ago and it was one of the few activities that I could participate in with them that my weight and overall lack of fitness didn't hold me back from. Anyway...i had to wear a men's XL wetsuit that ended up being way too long on my legs (I'm 5'2"), AND I had to carry 20+ lbs of weights in my vest; which is ALOT...the rest of the fam all need less than 10lbs of weights. I can't wait to be able to wear a regular women's size wetsuit (skin tight and schexy to boot!), and triumphantly reduce the number of weights I need...which, along with my own body weight loss, would make make walking to entry soooooo much easier. Unfortunately, Covid nixed those plans this year 😭. Eff you Covid.
