I've always done Centrum (or the generic equivalent) and haven't had any issues. Lots of WLS patients take them. As long as a vitamin meets the ASBMS (American Society of Bariatric & Metabolic Surgeons) requirements, it should be fine. for calcium citrate, I have three ways I take it --- Upcal D (a powder which I mix into things like yogurt), generic calcium citrate tablets from Walgreens or CVS, and Bariatric Advantage calcium chews which are great for traveling or for when you're out and about and not near your regular calcium stash (I always keep a few of them in my purse for that reason).

Peanut Butter Has Ruined My Life
Frustr8 replied to wallpapermusic's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
And it turned out to be one of the things Precious Pouch refuses to continance. But I have not given up hope, just this week she conceded to allow Greek Yogurt after 10 months of vehement refusal. So perhaps banana and Peanut Butter will return. Before my surgery Greek Yogurt, Cottage Cheese, Peanut Butter, the Good Kind, I live near Columbus Ohio, the home of Krema P. Butter, so fresh it separates into oil and solids, learned as a Small Frustr8 to screw on the lid tightly, and store it up side down. And when it is time to eat some , turn it upward, stir it with your table knife, spread it on good homemade whole wheat 🍞 bread, nothing better unless you slice bananas on it! Yum Yum to infinity and beyond! And I was an EXCELLENT BREAD MAKER if I do say so, one sandwich of that filled me well enough I didn't munch between meals. Don't know if my bossy little turkey- egg of gastric Flesh will let those days EVER to RETURN? But as the old song goes, and YES I AM OLD " Ah Yes, I remember it well!" -
Transitioning to soft foods
kitty0422 replied to kitty0422's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m so afraid of trying new foods that I’m eating just yogurt, mashed potatoes and pudding. -
I mostly eat the same things for breakfast and lunch B: either Quark (a yogurt-consistency cheese) or Oikos Triple 0 Greek Yogurt with 1/4 - 1/2 c. frozen blueberries (I eat it at work, so the bb defrost just a bit on the drive in so they're not SOOO frozen) L: eggface's ricotta bake with spinach baked in. I usually make a double recipe, cook it in a mini loaf pan that makes 8 mini loaves. Keep 4 in my fridge, freeze 4. Sometimes I'll have leftovers for lunch, but typically its ricotta bake. Snacks - the Sargento nut/cheese packs, cheese slices, almonds, parm chips with guac or hummus (sometimes I'll have this for lunch as well)

Fruit juice-really the enemy?
Sosewsue61 replied to Butterfly#7's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
What protein are you consuming at this point - Greek yogurt, shakes, bone broth, etc? I would dilute that one serving - which a juice serving is 4oz - with water and ice. The culprit is the acid in juice - you are healing and acid at this point is not good. Plus nutritionally it doesn't have fiber and raises blood sugar immediately, then can send you crashing really fast. If you think you need 'something' puree a couple strawberries or cantaloupe and add protein powder and ice. -
I can tolerate anything – I do a combination of clean foods (I meal prep) and little to no prep foods. To save money, freeze leftovers in small batches for convenience meals later. I meal prep proteins. I can refrigerate some and freeze the rest. I don’t eat the same things all week, I have items that are little to no prep on hand. (make sure any of my examples are on your plan) Breakfast: Mix up your veggie cups with other items, Dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt, For out the door convenience in the morning – Protein iced mocha shake – (Instant decal coffee, sugar free chocolate syrup and vanilla protein shake and ice) fried egg and precooked jimmy dean turkey sausage links. Lunch: With what ever you are meal prepping for lunch – Keep flavored tuna pouches, I make chicken salad (Canned chicken, chopped celery, onion, apple and dried cranberries and olive oil mayo) hard boiled eggs bought in a bag in the deli section. I can make deviled eggs or egg salad. - I eat veggie trays and strawberries dipped in sugar free cholate syrup for a snack Dinner I have my prepped dinners- my little to no prep is precooked john soles beef or chicken meat from frozen section – Its Easy to chop and Sautee my green red peppers and onions add fajita seasoning. (They also sell frozen peppers and onions) Precooked chicken and frozen stir fry vegetables. Last night’s quick meal was ground turkey, canned deiced stewed tomatoes, deiced green peppers and onion, frozen garlic roasted riced cauliflower and four cheese spaghetti sauce, I log and keep within my calories and macros. Breakfast is a tough one to prep. It just doesn't taste the same reheated or will have a nauseating smell when reheated. I usually do a protein shake, cream of wheat or Greek yogurt if I can't cook breakfast every day.

Recidivist replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey, Marine--we haven't heard from you in a while! I was thinking of writing so see how you are doing. As for dumping--I've had four or five incidents, the most recent earlier this week. In one case I know what the culprit was (a refreshing low-sugar frozen yogurt), but otherwise I have no idea what caused them. And yes, the do indeed suck. -
Vegetarians(or Vegans!)
notmyname replied to despacit0w0's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a pescatarian, but mostly eat vegetarian. Some of my veggie go-tos are (I eat far too much cheese, which may not work for you with the autoimmune - not sure): greek yogurt Quark (its a cheese that is yogurt consistency - but thinner than greek yogurt) I almost always have quark with frozen blueberries for breakfast - by the time i get to work, the bb are still a little frozen, but not hard) cottage cheese (there is one that is higher protein) My favorite lunch is ricotta bake (google "Eggface ricotta bake") - I always add some sauteed spinach. I make a double batch and cook them in a mini loaf pan (makes 8 mini loaves) - freeze half of them. beans/lentils (although not a lot of protein here) tofu - I either buy extra firm, drain it, and bake it or buy the baked tofu from places like trader joe's eggs - mostly scrambled Veggie sausage (I like morninstar farms) egg salad (2 eggs, 1 TBL greek yog, 1 TBL may) Veggie burgers (look at the protein content, some are low protein/high carb) Snacks almonds Sargento nut snack packs cheese fairlife milk -
Is this normal? 2 Days Post Op
CashmereAndBones posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys, Yesterday I got my surgery and was in the hospital all day yesterday and most of today. I just got home today. I've been burping but they seem to get getting stuck and not forming a full burp. I'm also so tired all the time, maybe it's because I didn't sleep the day before my surgery and the day of my surgery I was woken every 2 hours to walk. I drank 7 oz of water and 1 oz of pedialite, had half an oz of cottage cheese, 1 1/2 oz lowfat yogurt and I'm sipping my Premier Protein throughout the day. I am so full but I know I need to try to get liquids in. Is this good for now? I plan on eating an egg later. I'm so scared life will never go back to normal. -

Congrats on your journey! My favorite for protein was using Premier Protein rtd in Chocolate and especially Bananas and Cream as my coffee creamers (decaff). I'd make iced coffee especially using 1/2 PP + 1/2 coffee over ice. And that way I was really able to get them down without it tasting chokingly sweet. I also cut the strength of the Premier clears with water and also with decaff iced tea. Both were allowed on my plan. I also added in unflavored protein into soups and made quite a few creamed soups. Oh and I also used the Bananas and Cream and Peaches and Cream to flavor Greek yogurt and make "yogurt soup". You can also make frozen PP into ice cream and pudding using sugar free jello pudding with the PP as the milk replacement or with 1/2 PP + 1/2 Fairlife Milk. I honestly just tried to keep things pretty simple, so never really did the whole elaborate puree stuff or ice creams or puddings. Mostly protein lattes, frappacinos, and yogurt soup. Oh and powdered peanut butter (PB2) is great to cut the sweetness of the protein powder and ups the protein content of yogurt!

KCgirl061 replied to despacit0w0's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a vegetarian but I do have some meatless ideas for you. I enjoy a lot of yogurt and cottage cheese. I find Oikos Triple Zero gives you the best high protein/high fiber/low sugar option. My favorite way to prepare cottage cheese is with toasted walnuts and a drizzle of honey. For meals I have a fiesta black bean quinoa salad that my husband and I just love. (I'll post a link for the recipe) I also like to make wraps with hummus and black beans, spinach leaves and red pepper slices. Egg salad would also be a good idea especially if you are still early in pureed/soft stages. So would lentil soup. https://www.crunchycreamysweet.com/roasted-sweet-potato-black-bean-quinoa-salad-recipe/ https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/lemony-lentil-soup/ -

I thank you very much... and i lost about the same so i am a lil more at ease... u puree cottagr cheese n eat it just like that? I cant do greek yogurt it taste like sour cream, any other suggestions? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
My dietitian recommended water Mellon, berries, cantaloupes and those high in fiber while avoiding the more sugary fruits. I told her that I like cherries and she said sure, unfortunately cherries are heavy on my stomach. When eating fruits its best to eat with a protein, cottage cheese, yogurt etc. Always check with your plan of course.

Over the counter vitamins?
catwoman7 replied to Lovin2lose's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've taken Centrum (or the generic equivalent) since day 1. Walgreens and CVS both have generics. I took the chewable version for the first few months, then switched over to a regular tablet. for calcium, I take a couple of different versions. When at home I either take generic tablets or mix some Upcal D powder into my yogurt (for my breakfast dosage). I always have Bariatric Advantage chews with me for when I'm out & about and it's time for my calcium (I take one of the other versions when I'm at home because they're cheaper - but BA chews are great for when you're away from home or traveling) -

15 yrs into gastric bypass
Darktowerdream replied to Angelbaby1221's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m just starting out but I have read that it helps to do a pouch reset. Having hormone, metabolic and other medical issues I can relate. Try to pinpoint what medication might be affecting your weight and why. For example I needed beta blockers and the generic caused more side effects that included slowing my metabolism. Once I got on the name brand and also adjusted my calories it helped. If you can pinpoint the medication ask the doctor about switching to something with less side effects of weight gain. Also see an endocrinologist to have hormones checked and anything that could be throwing off your weight there. You might try some natural hormone supplements ie. Wild yam, black cohosh, (my head isn’t working to think of them all) 15 years a lot can change and it takes time to re-evaluate and adjust. 2-Week Pouch Reset Diet The 2-Week Pouch Reset Diet can help you if your weight loss stalls after getting gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, lap-band, or another type of weight loss surgery. There may be a time after weight loss surgery when you wonder whether your pouch has stretched, or when you get off track with your eating. The 2-Week Pouch Reset Diet mimics your original post-op diet, but it moves through the stages more quickly. You start with clear liquids, move to full liquids, then progress to pureed foods, semi-soft foods, and solid foods. The 2-Week Pouch Reset Diet can help you: Break the pattern of off-track eating. Remember what it feels like when you feel restriction from your pouch. Practice stopping eating before you feel overly full. Diet Guidelines: When you get to the solid foods diet, this is the time when you will feel that your pouch is working again. Eat slowly and mindfully, and focus on the feeling you have when you stop eating just before you are full. You can continue on the solid foods plan (repeat Days 10-14) for as long as your doctor agrees. Drink plenty of water and other calorie-free or low-calorie liquids to stay hydrated. Only use under the supervision of your doctor. The give me, chicken broth, jello, yogurt and mashed potatoes. I was only able to eat maybe 2 spoonful of yogurt and a bit of the chicken broth. jello was way to sweet. I mainly sipped on water and ice chipped.

Very possible. It’s gone now but I know it will return and I know I won’t go through my life eating nothing but grilled chicken and yogurt. Also, I get it with the crazy posts and admittedly I should have said I wasn’t planning on making it now, but I also feel I shouldn’t have to. An appropriate and kind response, IMO, might be “There are some options but nothing appropriate at 3 weeks out” or “probably nothing that will taste authentic and it’s not a great idea to eat something like that, anyway. Aside from Protein and Calcium it offers little nutrition”. Many things would be better than to make someone look foolish or uninformed because they posted about a craving. That’s a form of bullying in my book. I believe in lifting each other up. We all have struggled with our weight but there’s a social ranking here just like high school, which is crap, bc all of us are or were fat. I’ve been lurking here for a very long time before joining. I started my journey in 4/2018. This was one of the first times I started a thread. Maybe the second ever. Never in a million years did I know I would get jumped on for asking for suggestions. It’s ok but I felt I should explain myself. There are always 2 sides.

Google “90 second keto bread in a mug” it’s a super simple recipe using almond flour. I replace the oil with 0% plain Greek yogurt. It works perfect for sandwiches !

Sleeved 6/11 and having issues with getting protein down...
BlueAngelEyes replied to DrButterfly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the same problem with protein drinks at 2 weeks i was starving myself and not losing anything cause i wasnt getting my protein in so i called my docter and i told them i cant do protein drinks and they said sorry just hang in there for 6 more days then we will put u on pureed foods early even tho i wasnt supposed to start purees untill after my first month. Soo i went rogue not saying u should by any means but it worked for me i started getting protein yogurt getting 15g in and there only 2 sugars i had 2 a day and started losing again then a few days later started pureeing chicken and used broth to thin it and added alittle instant mashed potatoes. I am now able to have sweet potatoes, tuna and cooked carrots in chicken noodle soup broth.. found out my body cant handle alittle mayo yet or scrambled eggs or refried beans so will try those again in a few weeks. I finally told my docter that i started my own thing and sshe said great as long as im getting protein in and staying hydrated she said congrats and they will see me july 8th for my one month to see how much ive lost. So im a happier camper now not doing protein shakes i wish u luck on ur weight loss journey.. -
It’s been about a month since my gastric sleeve procedure. I’m growing tired of sugar free popsicles, yogurt, sf apple sauce and sf jello! Are there any other snacks safe for me to eat?

What Food Is Your Kryptonite?
Sosewsue61 replied to MrsGamgee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I could not tolerate chicken breast until recently, so I ate thighs instead ...Nor steak, it has to be well marbled and like 4 bites. I still can only consume a tiny tiny amount of chocolate anything. After surgery any chocolate protein shake or sf chocolate pudding made me throw up, I developed an aversion to that form - I can have a bite of plain dark chocolate but not much. It doesn't call my name any more - which is good. I don't eat pasta ever, I have had maybe 2T of rice like 4 times - it feels horrid, swells up makes me want to throw it up. So now I just don't bother. Any bread consumption must be toasted. But popcorn goes down okay. LOL I mainly eat eggs, cheese, pork steak, bacon, chicken, fish, shrimp, crab, vegetables, a few berries, yogurt sometimes. I could not tolerate salad for nearly a year - that was tough - lettuce chewed 40 times just slimed and came up. So it was cucumbers, and pepper strips until my body adjusted. I now eat lots of raw greens.
