I need some reassurance---- is it possible to be too fine? I had RNY on Dec 16. The first few days I wasn't able to. get much down but since day 4 I have no issue sipping. I am meeting my liquid goals ( 64 oz) protein goals ( 60oz) and walking 5k+ steps a day. I am so sick of soup and really want to move to pureee but I know I can't. Any suggestions on things to do in the mean time? How many carbs or fat should I be getting right now? How many calories is thee limit for these next few days? Is day 11-14 the hardest?

omg, I effed up these last two days and ate all that is sugar and carbs! My workout today was so freaking hard, waking up was tough, and I feel super tired. So now I know why I don't eat like sh**! it was an eye opener and I have been back at it and feeling already so much better! I was totally fine then started to drink a diet soda here and there and it upkicked my cravings for it. The best advice is DIG REALLY DEEP and remember your why! My why are my kids and husband. I want to be and feel the best possible version I can do be for them. They deserve and heck I deserve it too! I had a nice time and enjoyed all the treats but I know that isnt me anymore and now I am back on track. Also I would go back to the basics, low carb and high protein. Chew gum, get flavors for your water, sugar free popsicles.

Can't Stop Eating Too Fast!
Gypsy_Life replied to NeonRaven8919's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm hearing you! I'm working as a nurse and depending where I work, if I get a meal break, I only manage 15 minutes. Most times now, I carry a protein bar with me and have bites of it while I'm doing my notes. -
also, your surgeon may not want to do a re-sleeve. Some still do but many consider it to be too risky and it yields too little reward (the weight loss for a second sleeve is statistically less than a virgin sleeve which is already less than the other surgeries). The typical surgery for revision is usually the bypass although a newer alternative to that is to revise to a surgery called the SADI which is what I just did and it is a little more aggressive so it yields faster loss and so far the research shows more durable loss as well. I have lost quite a bit rather quickly with it. You don’t need to know any of this yet. Your doctor of course will know if any of the options apply to you and explain them at that point but just know that it may be a little different surgery if you do go with a revision. One that alters your intestines this time which is a bit riskier.

Not sure what your coverage is for them but I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor about the GLP-1 if eating different is the cause for regain. Your tool is still there, you most likely just need help switching your diet back and the GLP-1 should take your appetite away almost completely making that a great deal easier. I have a friend that lost all of her weight and was actually losing too much and had to back off of them because she wasn’t getting enough nutrition. I had to keep reminding her to get in her protein and fluids. She has great coverage for them through her work insurance (she pays $25). I actually wanted to do them when I did my revision this year but I didn’t have adequate coverage for them and financially they just weren’t an option so I went for the revision. I talked to my doctor about waiting but she thought it would be a couple years before anything changed in terms of coverage and my labs were creeping up so waiting wasn’t a good idea. I am doing great in terms of weight loss but faced with another medical issue now, the gastro changes I’ve had aren’t making things any easier for me. Losing the weight is for sure the goal but if you can do it without surgery that’s always better. As far as I know revision is for people who gain without any real known reason. You are saying that you’re eating different for an emotional reason so you probably just need help changing back to your better habits both mentally and physically. Honestly, I think the GLP-1 will be the first option for many people in the very near future. They are considered safer at this point. It’s just a matter of them becoming more accessible for people. Take it with a grain of salt but it’s something I would at least consider before jumping to the surgery option.

You definitely need to let your team know. You may need to make arrangements with work for you to take breaks. You may know this better than I do but I believe if the Dr writes a note they have to accommodate you. Your nutrition is medically necessary. And allowing you to get your fluids is urgent. If your truly dehydrated your team should be able to arrange for your to get fluids on an out patient basis but if not you can always go to the ER. Your team should have a doctor you can speak with after hours even today. Clear protein drinks are probably your best bet once you’re rehydrated. They will work as hydration and protein. Premiere protein makes one that was 20g of protein I believe.

I am researching Naked Whey protein powder, Nutricost or Quest? I need a good protein powder for my post run midday meal. I usually eat my lunch but there are times where my lunch is a little bit too heavy.

Flight home 5 days after surgery
IsaacMoore replied to TruNorth's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a similar experience last year when I flew back after surgery. I was a bit worried about the long flight, but I opted for a First Class seat, which made a huge difference. It’s not about luxury, but the extra space and ability to adjust the seat really helped with comfort. I think staying in San Diego for a few extra days is a good idea—around 5 days sounds reasonable to me, as it gives you more time to heal before the flight. Affordable First Class Travel options are out there too, so you don’t necessarily have to break the bank for a more comfortable trip! The key is taking it easy and making sure you’re not overdoing it. -
I pureed many different family dinners - just whatever was being made for everyone else! I loved them because they smelled and tasted of actual food after 4 weeks on nothing but protein shakes. They're not for everyone though - mine were smooth baby food texture and lots of people just don't like that. I still used shakes to meet my protein goals for those 2 weeks, or at least get close.

Calories snd weight loss aside, I was warned that immediately post op that you may physically be able to eat more than you should and you really need to measure to avoid injuring yourself by eating too much until your insides are healed. Those portions they put in your book are not just a suggestion. They are really important. Once things heal you should start to feel your restriction better but you do still need to eat slowly and to pay attention to it or you will overfill yourself. The difference between okay and stuffed can be just one or two bites for most people. That being said, I could’ve eaten more than expected with every single stage post op and I could eat more than most when I was healed as well. I still can’t eat a lot but more than most sleevers. I still lost a pretty significant amount with the sleeve and then I revised to SADI recently in which my dr didn’t touch my sleeve and I have lost a pretty big chunk of weight again. If you choose healthy foods you won’t really be consuming that much more calorie wise with an extra quarter or half cup of food, honestly. I’m talking about like broccoli or salad greens. Stuff like that. If you do your protein first and do fruits and veggies after that you still probably wont have room for much else even with a slightly larger pouch. I know that I don’t. Sometimes when I’m exercising pretty intense I do add a third cup of brown rice but I have to cut the veggies to do so.

I did eat puree fruits and veggies but meat was just gross. I made sure to get my protein in from shakes and had a bit of fruit and veggies to get in some fiber.

Isopure unflavored in Hot items
Alex Brecher replied to One more time's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Try this – let your coffee or soup cool down before adding the protein. If it’s too hot, it’ll clump like crazy. Or, mix the powder with some cold water first to make a slurry, then slowly stir that into the hot liquid. Works way better that way. -
Cancer Post Surgery.
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well I'm still pending results but they think that the immunotherapy is causing colitis and if so and we can’t control it that I may have to stop the med. This med of course is the most effective treatment along with the chemo for my type of cancer so it’s not good. Well I talked to the oncology dietician and she gave me a low fiber diet to start with. If that doesn’t work there is an even more strict one for me to try but it’s basically everything complete opposite of what we have been doing with the bariatric diet and I am so worried it’s going to make me gain all my weight back. I mean I have no choice but to do it but this just sucks. I have worked so hard. I am supposed to eat like saltines, white rice, white bread, white pasta, etc. Basically carbs and fat with some protein options. Hardly any fruits or veggies. I can have lean meats but without anything with them they are hard to get down right now. I gotta do this though. The doctor mentioned an even stronger steroid to reverse it or having to stop it alltogether and I just can’t let that happen. Part of me is tempted to just not eat a lot but I know I gotta keep my strength up to keep doing these treatments. I’m having a bit of a pity party this morning since I stepped on the scale and of course I have gained. 😢 I know that I know how to lose it now though so I’m just hoping that once I get through this I can. Maybe I can get the GLP-1 if not to help with the appetite suppression to get me started. It’s another year at least so hopefully they will be cheaper and more accessible by then. -
Purée Stage
summerseeker replied to powell.j.Sylvia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried lots of pureed foods but as I had already had issues with food smells, the look of pureed food was not for me. I managed home made thick blended soups with lentils and cheese for the protein. It was an unpleasant time for me. On here I heard about protein yogurt and puddings. Life savers. Just do the best you can because it isn't the best time of year when there is so much food around. -
Wellbeing Checkpoint! ✅
summerseeker replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good for you for being brave and going to the doctors right away. Fingers and toes crossed for you. I found a cyst in my stomach area whilst feeling the new me. It weighed in at 3lbs. It was attached to a ovary. My fat hid that ! For years I had a dull ache, trouble with my bowels and water works and never bothered about it. When I did, they fast tracked me and I know how you feel, its a bumpy ride. The surgeon who took it out said it was memorable. I just can not get into the Christmas spirit either. I have no grandchildren so that doesn't help matters. My husband got the tree and the decorations out yesterday and this kind of forced me into putting them out. I did it in a foul temper but last evening with all of them lit, the house looked 'proper bonny ' as we say in these parts. So I am glad I was pushed. For my sweet treat I buy the little bars from Aldi that come in a 5 pack or have a Clif protein bar, Chocolate chip is my fav. Just enough to satisfy the sweet itch and I dont have an already open bar to tempt me. -
I puréed a few things. (Tinned fish was the worst - disgusting.) You can purée quite a few proteins (wouldn’t do steak but you could do minced beef) as long as you add enough liquids like stock, milk, gravy or water. Or you can use things like mayo, ricotta, cottage cheese with eggs or chicken (like an egg salad). Really it comes down to how your taste buds react to certain flavours in these first weeks or if you’re repelled by the texture. I could eat scrambled eggs (I made them pretty soft with extra milk), instant rolled oats (again extra milky), and I would puree chunkier soups. I did have baby food a couple of times when I couldn’t eat what I’d pureed. A lot of people swear by a ricotta bake. Sure someone has a recipe they could post.

My program also only counted protein and suggested "low carb" with roughly 40% of calories coming from protein, 30% carb, and 30% fat. If you eat 1000 calories (to make the math easier, but you won't probably hit 1000 calories for a while, at least a few months), that would be 100g protein, 75g carb, and 33g fat. As time goes on and calorie intake goes up, my dietician says the percentage of protein might decrease and carb might increase, but it's about finding what works for you. Also, I was told not to worry about hitting these numbers perfectly every single day, but to look at the weekly average for a better idea of how you're doing.

Thank you amber, this is great suggestions for my coning days. My program now only count protein. I am still in liquid stage, in 2 more days i move to puree food then 2 more week whole food which is when i will need to make the real adjustment to food choices for my life forward. Reading this fourm, with many great experiences give me hope but it is for sure not an easy journey, but easy journey got me where i am now

I think your doing great! My program was strict on carb intake which in the beginning I was able to easily adhere to, however veggies, fruit and a bunch of good whole foods have carbs so its okay to eat them. We need them for our energy. Your protein is amazing! I also cook for my family; hubby and 3 kids. I just adjust. I eat what they eat just cut out the carby. With spaghetti, I just eat the meat sauce and put it on top of spaghetti squash or zoodles, or if I am making hamburgers I just eat the patty. My family is eating better now too, now I get lean ground beef, only eat chicken breast, we do lightly breaded chicken, so that might help with your journey too.

Purée Stage
GreenTealael replied to powell.j.Sylvia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not mainly because I wasn’t really hungry. My focus was on hydration and protein intake. I mainly did full liquids/thicker liquids, then I progressed to soft foods at the appropriate time. What is considered puréed on your instructions? It may have been considered soft foods on mine. -
Hi, everyone. I had my gastric sleeve done four days ago and am amazed at how wonderful I feel. I never needed post-op pain meds, though I adhered to the advice to take it on schedule that first day afterward. Aside from some low bowel motility issues, I can honestly say I am having no difficulty at all. No nausea, no pain. I'm getting 4 oz per feeding (5/day), and working up to all my needed snacks in between, as I just have no hunger and have to remind myself. That's putting me up to between 60-65 grams of protein per day so far. My silly phone goes off constantly reminding me to drink or eat. At 67, I'm finding myself wishing I'd done it sooner. I started this journey on July 6th at 375 pounds, and this morning clocked in at 316.6. I am so grateful, I cannot tell you. Wishing everyone a fabulous journey towards health of their own.

Anyone preop for a revision.
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I think it depends on what you put into it like anything else. If you really use the opportunity to change WHAT you eat and not just how much you eat and take the energy burst and add some more activity to your routine. Real lifestyle changes, you should lose and have a far better chance to keep it off long term. But if you just make small changes like eat half a kids meal at McDonald’s instead of a super sized meal then yes you will probably lose but not as much and you most likely won’t keep it off long because as you probably know when the hunger comes back your portions tend to increase so that happy meal won’t do it for you anymore and you wont have any healthy foods you learned to enjoy. The exercise is a big component for me that I didn't do the first time And I question daily why i didn't start it sooner because i truly do feel fantastic after I exercise. Nutrition wise I searched for healthy recipes and tried so so many. There were several that weren’t for me but just as many that were. I made a new one everyday in the beginning and I froze individual portions of the things I liked. Now I only cook a couple times a week and I double The recipes to keep my freezer stocked. This makes healthy options far more convenient so it’s so much easier to make the right choice. I saved links to recipes I wanted to try on my notes app and under another note I saved favorites. If you are craving something specific just type the word healthy in front of it and so many recipes will pop up to give you ideas of how to make a healthier version. Now don’t get me wrong I’d love to have a pizza BUT, I have found several recipes that are totally healthy and I legit enjoy as well. And don’t rule out stuff you don’t love now tastes can change a bit and things you didn’t like before may tasted different. Also, once you detox from the processed crap things taste different. Fruit is sweeter for one thing. I have been trying a new fruit and veggie each week. And I try cooking it different ways to find as much variety as I can.
