    And So Our Journey Begins...

So this lucky duck just went to Disneyland/California Adventure/Ikea from 9/11-9/13 and I walked my little butt off!! It was hot and sunny and humid and magical! I fit comfortably on every ride and in some cases with room to spare. It was really easy to find things to eat, I took a couple quest bars in case of emergency, and only ate 1. I left weighing 246.8 and came back weighing in this morning at 241.6. I think my body really needed the movement to break the slow loss pattern I had put myself in. I shared food when possible or ate small when I wanted, there was no typical snacking, and I was crushing it on the hydration front. The trip was awesome and I can't wait to go again!! In my personal life. I started seeing this guy, I reconnected with on OKCupid.com (I got an email from them that I am ranked one of their most attractive people in my area - NSV), that I knew from HS and I was really nervous to tell him about my surgery, I was pulling a classic Misty and overthinking it. We had our first (and second) meal together yesterday so I knew I had to tell him. He was really supportive and sweet about it. Not one drop of judgement to be found, and I was really relieved. I wasn't aware how stressed about it I was. He is also very much infatuated with my slowly changing body, even though I have a long ways to go he can't stop touching me, evidenced by spending about 9 hours in bed watching movies all day and cuddling. This surgery has given me so much more confidence than I have ever had about my body and in myself and it has been worth every moment of discomfort (of which there have been few). Oh! Random NSV, when I was showering this morning I was washing the soap off my shoulder and boom! I can feel my collarbone. Can't see it very much but I can feel it solidly right there. It was such a shocker, since I have NEVER in my left actually just felt it without searching for it. I'm a very happy lady these days! Thanks for reading!
  2. Hi guys and girls It's been a long time since I've posted. Just an update, I was sleeved in Dec 2013 at 264 pounds 5'2. Here it is today knocking at 100 pound loss mark. But more significantly I was able to do THIS the other night! Haven't done this in years!!!!

    November 2013 Bandsters Check In

Hi Nov band-mates, I am still here, trying to stay encouraged. Have lost 59 pounds since I started this journey, that includes my 2 wk pre-op loss. I read at this general site a lot at first but had to stop because everyone seemed to lose like 60lbs in 4 months, for example, and that made me too depressed since I couldn't lose that fast. I am 63 yrs old with 2 knee replacements. I will be the first to say I hate exercise and do it sporadically but also know that when I am walking, biking and swimming on a regular basis,I lose much better. I have many NSVs and am happy with what I have lost, just want to get in high gear and do better. Mt dr is not unhappy with my loss,he is very conservative with fills and I like him a lot. Glad to find this thread and will be coming here more often. Have a good day !
  4. I'll call that a huge NSV. what a great feeling. congrats. as a male I have no use for your clothes, but best of luck getting some money from them for your new wardrobe!

Happy Birthday! I want to play tennis! One of my nsv goals is to play with my dad again. I am 50 and I lettered in tennis in high school. The last time I played was in college. My dad who is over 70 still plays 3 times a week.

August post op sleevers: Check in

Hey guys. Motherof5 checking. Everything seems to be going well at 3 weeks out. Still trying be mindful of drinking and eating slowly. Also listening to my tummy when it is full. I do have a fullness indicator which is burping. I also notice that when I stand up I feel even more full. I dumped twice the other day and it was not fun at all. Not being mindful, I mixed undiluted Powerade with my crushed HBP meds. Well, soon after I had severe stomach cramps along with diarrhea and dry heaving. My bariatric binder states that it should be half water and half juice. Not for me though. I need more water than juice. This is just a big learning process with our new tummies. At 13 pounds down and some NSV's, I have no regrets at all. My next appt is on the 22nd, so hopefully my bp will be better. Later Losers!
  7. Tried chicken wings again. I use to love them, not any more. So sad. 4 months out as of tomorrow . NSV this week is that a was able to button my size 22 pants down from size 32. And found out today that my work approved my transfer to Tennessee .

Congratulations @Susan11803 ! Great job done! Keep up the fantastic work :)

  8. Let me preface this. This is an NSV for me. Fat girl all my life, teased by boys from an early age, shunned later, I, (as many of us I'm sure), learned to remain "aloof". Show no interest and they'll leave you alone and not hurt you. This makes for a "cold" and rarely playful adult woman. So the NSV... I'm chatting with this guy I've met on-line who I have a date to meet in a few hours and he flirts a bit. I actually managed to come back in such a way as to elicit the comment, "You're a good flirt"! Funny that that's a milestone for me, but it totally is, to have the kind of confidence to take that kind of risk! So wish me luck with this one. He looks kinda cute and he's funny. And he's a good flirt. LOL

    When do you know?

I think your stats look just fine especially considering what your poor body has had to endure for so long. In fact, you've lost the same as I had at 8 months. At this point you should concentrate on eating as healthy as you can and letting your body heal. If you you stick with the basic plan you will definitely keep losing. It may take a year or two before your body hits it's new normal. But that sure beats remaining obese or years of more yo yo dieting. Just concentrate on the things you can control....water, Vitamins, what and how much you eat, and exercise. Focus on the positive and set NSV goals. Don't obsess over the things you can't control because there is no way to know how much or how fast you will lose. Good luck and here's hoping for a happysleever!

August post op sleevers: Check in

Hello all! Checking in today after my 2 weeks post op visit yesterday. I am down 13 pounds in two weekss, Yay! My bp was 164/90, Nay! I was really hoping that I will not need these dang nabbit pills again. So, I will have to take my crushed bp meds and they are disgusting. My surgeon still have me pureed foods fo another 2 weeks. i showed him my baby food that I made for myself and he said it was too thick, WHAT! He said that if it cannot come through a straw then it is too thick. Now that is a bummer, really. I can't imagine runny chicken. I was extremely pooped yesterday. I didn't want to eat of drink anything. I ended up taking a nap around 12 and then went to bed around 9. It was bad but today I hav energy. My dietician got on me about my shakes so now I am concentrating on them now. My meal plan is the have at least 2 shakes per day (these are 27 grams of Protein a piece). Now, I have to tweek these shakes because I do not like the taste. I add 1 tblspoon of Peanut Butter and a small piece of banana. i will have two high protein Snacks and a small dinner. Also, trying to avoid this diarrhea that I have sometimes. Yesterday was bad.Still taking the 2 Flintstones Complete. I have a few NSV(non scale victories). My ring is loose. I was able to bend down with my knees instead of having my butt in the air, lol. I was also able to cross my legs a little and I notice that my stomach is smaller. Anyone else?

    When do you know?

I've always just followed the program.... 1) minimum 64oz Water. (I usually get more like 70-80oz.); 2) eat when I'm hungry and just until satisfied, not full (this has become even more important the farther out I get because I can eat a lot more than before and if I tried to eat to fullness, I would probably stop losing and /or gain) 3) 60-70g protein/day (I can only do this with a 30-40g Protein smoothie in addition to regular food) 4) Snacks and meals are always protein first, then veggies, fruit and whole grains ( a balanced diet is important for proper nutrition and a healthy body) 5) whole food based Multivitamins and whatever additional supplements your bloodwork indicates you may need (I still take Extra Vitamin D and B12 sublingual, but discontinued Iron and Calcium after labs showed those levels were high) 6) stay active (I don't have a regular exercise routine, but my job and recreational activities are very physical) 7) don't obsess over the scale. (NSV's like how I feel, how I can move, How my clothes fit, how my knees and ankles don't ache everyday, and how my blood pressure is back to normal are all more important to me) At this point I consider myself in maintenance. I guess if I set my goals a lot lower, I might be frustrated, so you may want to readjust your expectations if this is happening to you. Since I was already eating healthy and as much as I want, I haven't changed a lot. I added more fruit and higher fat food options to try and slow my weight loss, but that was 17 pounds ago. I haven't lost anything in about 3 weeks, so I don't know if this is a stall or if I'm done. No way to know and no sense fretting over it. And yes, I do indulge in Desserts, breads, alcohol, and other "no-no's" but always in moderation and completely guilt free.
  12. Habits die hard, was riding in step sons new 2014 charger, and everytime I opened the door I opened it slow to make sure door wouldn't hit curb. And each time, it was nowhere near, and the car wasn't sitting low.. NSV

    Slowest looser ever

4lbs a week is 2-3 lbs above the recommended amount a person should lose a week. 4lbs a week isn't slow. I know it seems like a lot of people drop SERIOUS weight in the first few weeks but not all of us do. You CANNOT make your body do what it isn't going to do so, in order to NOT go insane, keep your eyes on your own paper. Look at your own history, your own journey, your own success. You're down 13lbs from your surgery date and that's fantastic. I NEVER more than 2 or 3 lbs a week after my first week post op. NEV. ER. But now I am down 102lbs. You will keep losing! You are right on track. Keep your thoughts positive, follow the rules, do the work. your sleeve is WORKING. Also keep in mind you may be dropping inches, and probably from places you don't even realize like ankles, wrists, knees. One of the first things I noticed, 4 days post op is that it no longer hurt like hell to climb the stairs. Start counting your NSV's and relax. It's working.
  15. First of all, congrats on all of those NSV's! I recently had some of the same experiences so I totally understand. The realization that those stupid gowns actually fit me was amazing...in fact, they're way too big now. The first time that happened, I found myself wondering if they finally got wise and invested in bigger gowns for us fat people. Then it happened again at a different office and it finally dawned on me that it was because I am smaller and not that the gowns are bigger!haha... Anyway, good luck with all of the testing! Hope everything goes ok for you!
  16. Congratulations on all your nsv 's ! Big or small, weird or not, they're all related to your hard work, so give yourself a big pat on the back ! You go girl !
  17. I went to the hospital this morning to have a stress test. I need a colonoscopy and my doctor wanted something checked out regarding my ECG. I've been through hell and back in terms of my health so I'm not going to worry about anything unless or until I have to. But the visit was chock full of NSVs from the gown being too big on me (rather than my having to hold it closed, or even wear two of them, back to front and front to back) to the nurse being blown away when she saw my pre band photo once she pulled up my electronic records to fitting into the echo machine. One time I had to have a special part put into the MRI machine so my huge trunk-like leg would fit into it. Talk about embarrassing. I remember with such intensity, worrying about almost every situation in terms of my once obese body. Would I fit into something? Would I break something? Would someone say something nasty to me? Would I embarrass whomever I was with? Right now these feelings are very strong because the weight loss is new. I need to find that balance so I don't focus on it, but I don't lose sight of it either. I don't ever ever ever want to be heavy again.

August post op sleevers: Check in

Glad to see everyone is doing well here. I have no idea where i am in regards to weight lose. I do notice that my stomach is getting smaller, YaY! I have my energy back, it doesn't matter because I am still lazy, lol. I am so over the full liquid thing. I hope to be cleared to the next next phase on Monday. I also did not exercise yet. I need to be cleared for the recumbent bike, once that happens I am going to take off with that. Still doing the Flintstones Complete. Four out of five of my terry strips came off. The biggest incision is closed. I was really concerned with that. All in all I feel like I didn't have the surgery. But I must note that I did not have hernia repair so that could make a difference. My pain after surgery felt like a bad tummy ache. And the pain on day 2 that I had felt like an alien was coming through my chest. Talk about Aliens part 7, lol. That pain was terrible but was controlled with narcotics. I also suffered from nausea and they gave me Patches to take home. That nausea really set me back. they kept bringing the Optisource shakes and they were terrible. the only thing I did like was the broth. I wasted those shakes and felt bad about it. I am so happy that so many of the August folks are getting their walking in. As long as we stick to our doctor's plan we can accomplish our goals people. Just remember to measure and take your time eating and drinking. Any NSV's (non scale victories) yet? Please share.
  19. Mine isn't so much achey as they are sensitive to the touch. I can't sleep on my sides now because my knees poke together and my collar bones are so sore if I push on them. Puts a slight damper on the "ride a roller coaster" nsv. I've been sick the last few days and everything was achey. Way more than it's ever been in my entire life. I would rather of had surgery again than go through what I went through Wednesday night. My entire body hurt from my head to my knees. I thought I had the flu for sure, but it's just a sinus infection. I broke out in a rash after I started antibiotics and my heart has been doing weird things. I get sinus infections 3-4 times a year and usually get through it without a doctors visit. At the least I'll get a few days into it before I go, but I had to go immediately this time. I don't know if my immune system is still compromised or what but it's been a rough few days. My heart was fine btw and they have no idea what the rash is from.

    NSV shout outs

3 months out and NSV I had a follow up appointment with my Diabetes Dr. The staff had not seen me since before my surgery. The staff did not recognize me. To top off the day my labs were great. my A1C is a 5.9 Diabetes well controlled.

  22. You have gone through all the holes on your first NSV belt you bought at 3 months postop and now you have to buy another new belt. Sure was purty (Don't know why the pics turned upside down)

    Feeling discoraged july sleever

Today was "Weigh-In Wednesday" (that's what I call my weekly weigh in) and, just like clockwork, 3 WEEK STALL!!! Literally exact same weight as last week (344.2). I planned for this so I am going to do measurements and photos later to remind myself of the NSVs, but man, it really is disheartening. I know it will pass, but it's the first break in momentum post surgery, so it's a little bit of a reality check. I a, so thankful this board is here to have warned me about it!! I would probably be losing my MIND right now if I wasn't prepared!!!
