  1. I got an amazing veggie pizza with a cauliflower crust on it at Costco a few weeks ago. It was low calorie and omg good. I dont know if you have one around but if so that kills the pizza cravings at way less calories. It isnt that we cant ever have that again just try to pick a healthier alternative. For me I hadnt eaten pizza in a year so that was a big treat for me. I also wont make it a habit but made me feel “Normal” again lol

    Literally crying right now

You should take your time it takes 20 mins for our brain to register we are full the faster you eat the more food you intake. My surgeon and dietitian told me to chew 20 times. I had my surgery December 22, 2021 and I could not eat that much now. Also you are eating to soon after a meal - grazing is a habit we form which is part of why we led to obesity. I really only eat fish as my meat still and my Husband took me out to dinner I got grilled chicken One breast lasted me 3 meals - just last Sunday. I am down 52 pounds today!! (i only had 70 total as per my surgeon my goal was 80-100) I would try to find a local support group - call your surgeons office see if they can help you. But you keep eating that often you can and will stretch your stomach back out. And you shouldnt feel hunger - I still dont - so it may be your mouth and or brain is hungry out of ha it and boredom. I get up and do dishes or laundry clean the tub whatever until it passes. I have a certain time window for my meals - no i. Between snacking. If I really feel I need something I do it with a Protein Shake. 310 Nutrition has amazing shakes - make them with almond milk. I have all kinds of flavors, Peppermint, chocolate, Smores, vanilla Cake Batter - check them out because those keep me happy if i want something sweet i can drink something that is healthy that taste like a treat! Keep a food journal online or hand written - I do both. If you’re grazing you will be y at the amount of food and calories your eating in a day! Good luck!

Not sure if I should go through with it

I think most of us have had doubts and concerns prior to having the surgery. I see questions like this all the time on this forum. There are a few that are adamantly against having the surgery and regret having it. From their comments I feel that it was more due to their commitment to the process than the surgery itself. If you think the surgery is going to solve all your weight problems then it is not for you. If you want to be healthier and are willing to use the tool to lose weight and become more healthy, then it is for you. You have to be willing to put in the work though. You have to be willing to mentally invest in the process and realize that you cannot simply rely on a physical restriction to control your weight. You have to be willing to track foods, calories etc. You have to be willing to get some exercise and you have to be willing to resist the cravings that put you in your current situation. With all these things, you will be successful, but if you are not committed it is not going to work. This is not a magic pill that makes you skinny. It takes a lot of work.

    May Surgery Buddies

I make my smoothies as I go. I learned using the Baritastic App some food choices to keep the calories and carbs down. I love sweet frozen cherries, they have less calories than using even a half of a banana. I use a little yogurt. I used silk dairy free but have to be careful of the calories. I use almond milk and plant base unflavored protein power. I add blueberries as well. It's never the same thing exactly just what I am in the mood for. I have to be careful not to make a big one like I use to. I even put avocado in it for the nutrition. You don't taste it. I went to frys and in the freezer section bought cherries they don't have seeds. I like the sweet cherries. Then I would get other berries and peaches. Tonight I had protein Diet oatmeal it was good and not to sweet. I added some unflavored protein and a table spoon of no added sugar apple sauce. The oatmeal was 15 protein and 7 carbs. It took a while to eat it but it was really good.
  6. I had the loop DS / SADI-S in November 2021 (~6 months ago). I have a 300cm common channel (the part of my intestine that can still digest food and absorb nutrients). Since my surgery date I have lost 82 lbs and am still losing about 6lbs a month. I had some complications post surgery that I've had to deal with. Turns out my gallbladder was bad going into the surgery but no one realized it (since I had sludge and not stones). So they didn't take my gallblader out during the surgery and had to go back in to remove it 3 months later. I really wish they had proactively removed it because I was sick for months waiting for the gallbladder surgery and recovering from a second surgery so soon sucked. I still have a hiatal hernia because for reasons, it didn't get repaired. Again, I'd totally recommend making sure that they fix EVERYTHING while they have you open... I also have bad liver function test results that I'm waiting to hear back on, so I can't really comment much on why it's off. I feel fine though. I take vitamins 6 times a day for the rest of my life: 3 calciums and 2 multi vitamins. So far my vitamin levels look good. I eat about 500 calories a day still at 6 months out because I'm not hungry still. I realize some programs want more calories, but my surgeon has stressed that I shouldn't eat unless actually hungry. I don't have problems with any foods really, and my digestion is just fine (though I guess more gassy than before). I had a lot of health problems before surgery, none of which were resolved by the weight loss (total: 133 lbs). My a1c is better, though I still spike super high (200-300) if I have carbs (or surgery!) and even a small amount elevates my blood sugar all day. In my opinion, my a1c looks good because I'm eating so few calories, and zero carbs. In reality I will have diabetes for life and will need to watch that. I am still on blood pressure medication, still have migraines, still have intercranial hypertension, still take statins for my cholesterol, still take heartburn medication, etc. I am off of my diabetes medication for the time being. I did the weight loss surgery to resolve my health problems. So far I am very happy with the results, mostly because it's nice to be able to move around without getting hot and tired, and have people see me as a person and not immediately judge me for my weight. But it hasn't really made me healthier yet. Maybe it will eventually but either way it feels worth it.
  7. a 10- to 20-lb weight gain after you hit your lowest weight is very common - usually in year 2 or 3. bruising - I don't think I've ever heard this and I've been hanging out here for seven years, so it may be unrelated to your surgery. I'd check with your PCP P.S. you can always lose weight by cutting calories, but if your body is most comfortable at 155, it'll be a challenge to lose weight and keep it off. It can be done, it'll just be a challenge if you have to fight your body to do it. also - brain fog and fatigue - I haven't heard that either, but I suppose it could be related to a deficiency. Hopefully they'll do bloodwork while you're there so they can see if your deficient in anything, Deficiencies are pretty rare if you keep on top of your supplements, though - and you're a sleeve patient, so they're rarer still. Hopefully your physical exam will uncover whatever it is that's going on.
  8. Best to just weigh and measure foods and then you at least know you are not over eating. I weigh and measure everything, except if I am out. I have become quite good at estimating. I mean it wouldn't work for the long term as those little bits of calories would add up, but I test myself when measuring and I am always within .1 or .2 oz. Plus, I am no where near my max daily calories, so even if I am off a few it is not making a difference right now. When that hunger comes back and I am maxing out calories, then it will start making a difference. You will get it, you got it. Stay focused and patient!
  9. Well, as the title says I'm about 21 months out and now starting to gain. I got down to 143 (my goal was 130, but I was comfortable in the 140s). I'm now back up to 155. Over the past year, I've also developed a bruising issue and have multiple bruises on my arms and legs, mostly on the left side; random but moderate/severe aches & pains; brain fog; severe fatigue, and other idiopathic symptoms. I have a physical scheduled for mid-June, but I'm wondering if any of these things are common after surgery. As for my weight gain, nothing has really changed. I still eat very clean, limit myself to two low-sugar/low-calorie alcoholic beverages a week, and really try to take care of myself. With the aches, pains & fatigue, I'm finding it difficult to keep up with working out, but to be honest, I probably wasn't working out as much as I should be anyway. Mostly walking & biking. I'm also at the age where hormones are likely changing (I'll be 50 in two months). Any idea what might be going on or how to restart the weight loss? Thanks.

    Feeling a little lost

I am only 2 months post-op and I have no hunger. My nutritionist warned me it would come back, and take this time to retrain myself how to eat. Making better choices, healthier snacks, etc. With that, I would say it is normal. Maybe add a low calorie snack to your days?

    Literally crying right now

Just follow your plan. Serving sizes, calories, macros. Whatever you plan involves and you will do fine! Based on a few of your other posts, I think you are over thinking it. Or, maybe, thinking about it the wrong way. Everyone is able to eat different amounts and different things at different intervals of the day. Don't stress my friend, you will be ok!

    Sugar free ice cream?

I recently tried halo top. It was yummy! I usually try to have a healthier option though for a sweet meal like a low sugar protein yogurt and no sugar added dark chocolate chips. I suppose halo top has less calories than that so if you just want a couple spoonfuls of something sweet without the caloric load, halo top is decent. Just make sure it's part of your dieticians guidelines. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Hey! I was curious if anyone is experiencing this or has experienced this in the past. I'm a little over 3 months post op and as I transition more into regular eating, I find that I CANNOT eat in the mornings to early afternoon. Like my body can't physically handle food until around 2pm. If I eat something before then it gets "stuck" or I get the slimeee and need to puke. Doesn't matter what it is, I try eggs, protein yogurt, beans, cheese, veggies, fruit, all of it gets stuck and I get nauseous for an hour or so. This has been a recent development...maybe the past month this has started. It's not a stricture because past 2 I have no issues regardless of what the food is and don't feel my restriction at night but I do get nauseous if I overdo it. So far I just drink a protein shake in the morning or just a coffee or water and then two meals past 2pm to get my calories and protein in. Idk it's so weird. Wondering why the restriction is so extreme in the morning. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Drinking. Enough water!!

I used to drink a decent amount of water but after the surgery I really can't stand it. Or at least not in large quantities. I was drinking Crystal Light lemonade which was pretty good but still tough to get down a lot of. Then I went on vacation out of state and found this stuff called Milo's Sweet Tea (zero calorie), it tastes amazing and I couldn't get enough of it. Unfortunately when I got home I discovered that they don't sell it near me. So I tried Crystal Light Sweet Tea and I think it tastes even better. I have 2-3 large glasses per day of that and could probably get more down if I wanted, but that plus the protein drink I have every morning gets me to over 64 oz per day.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

I had to delete nuts from my diet, too many calories and not enough satiety. I do find the temptation to snack happening so I'm trying to be vigilant about that. Fifteen pounds to go, eight months and a week out from surgery.

    Social eating after gastric sleeve

I am just over a year out: the way I eat now? I go out… I eat whatever the family eats except in smaller portions and I avoid some stuff. i still don’t really do pasta. It just doesn’t sit well. I don’t do rice. If there is bread I am very picky and will avoid it altogether if it’s not amazing bread. I mostly still just eat protein, veggies, and fruits. My families social gathering all consist of buffet style massive amounts of food, but I only take one plate and keep portions small. I do find myself when going out that I am done before everyone else and still have a ton of food on my plate. In those situations I just ask for a box to go and sit and chat instead. I’ve also taken to ordering food with my 5 year old. My 5 year old has a very adult pallet and will often want adult food not kid food (steak and lobster?!). So with this in mind I look at the menu and order something i share with him. Even when I get my own food at home he asks if I’m full so he can share (after he finishes his). so I have a variety of strategies I use. I also still go for protein first to meet my protein goal and will often skip food that is low in that category (like soups and stuff. I only eat those when I’m sick now And I usually only do it at home so I can put protein powder in it if I have to). Calorie wise…. My nutritionist still isn’t thrilled. I still struggle to get in her 1700 calorie mark, but I am better in the sense where I can now get in 1400 calories MOST days (of good clean food without a ton of fillers) . I still don’t feel hunger at all over a year out (I’ve felt it maybe once or twice but that was when my schedule was off and I went WAY TOO LONG without remembering to eat) …. But if I can stick to a schedule it helps me stay consistent and get those calories in.

    Kinda annoyed and confused

I found keeping an eating schedule much easier too. I still follow one though with a little flexibility based upon how I’m feeling (hungry/not hungry) & what I’m doing. Generally, at three years, I do breakfast at 8:30, snack at 12, lunch at 3:30, dinner at 6 & snack at 7:30. Sometimes there’s an extra snack before lunch but then lunch & dinner are later. Initially I started because I wasn’t hungry or interested in eating after surgery. Then when I was trying to stabilise my weight, it helped to ensure I got in the calories I needed to stop losing & now it’s to meet my higher protein goals. (It’s why I snack so often too.) Give it a go. You may find it helpful too

3 months post op breakfast ideas

I have 6-8oz of unsweetened soy milk and 1 scoop of Gold Standard whey protein powder. That equates to 31g of protein and around 200 calories. It's a lot for my daily limit but it boosts my protein recommendation of 7-100g. The double rich chocolate flavor with a little cinnamon has yet to get old!

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Oh well done - that's an amazing loss over 2 weeks. I just came to see how everyone was getting along - we're all at the 6 month stage more or less - can you believe it?! I hit 6 months on Tuesday with a BMI of just under 28, weighing 13st 7lbs, and with 29lbs to go to my goal. I'm still eating around 1000 calories a day during the week and about 1200 at weekends. Walking (really fast walking) for exercise. I'm still losing about 2lbs at week at this point and so happy with that. I'm living in fear of my hunger returning in full force now. My stomach can hold noticeably more food than even a couple of months ago, although I don't push it at all. Still eating 3 small meals a day with a couple of snacks in between, and a couple of glasses of wine on Friday and/or Saturday night. I hope everyone else is doing well too.
  21. I'm commenting to follow mostly, maybe I can get some answers too. I had surgery November 2021 and within days of surgery this started to happen to me too. I haven't actually hit the floor, but when I stand up (especially at the end of the day) I feel terribly lightheaded and my vision goes black. At its worst I lose feeling in my body too. My surgeon said it's absolutely not normal, go see your GP for blood work. It came back that my iron was low, so Doc put me on iron pills. It got marginally better with time but I can't say with any certainty that it's the iron pills that are helping, or if advancing my diet is. I'm up to 1000-1200 calories per day, 60g protein and this is still happening regularly.

    6 weeks post op depressed

after surgery was really, really difficult and you don't have food to rely on anymore in the same way for comfort. but it does get better! i was miserable in the 1-2 months after surgery. if you have access to therapy of some kind i feel like therapy was really critical for me, and the supportive community on forums/instagram. as your body readjusts and you are able to take in more calories it gets easier. ❤️ hang in there.
  23. I had RNY to RNY revision surgery on 12/21/21. I thought I was fine, slowly recovering, until 10 days later when I started coughing up blood. I was airlifted back to the surgical hospital with a perforated jejunum at the anastomosis and SEPSIS. I had emergency surgery and was close to death for several days. I was in the hospital for 7 weeks and in a rehab facility for 3 weeks. I was discharged with a 15 cm long open surgical wound which is still not entirely healed 3 months later (but getting close). I resumed normal activities after returning home and have no pain from the open surgical wound. I have volunteer nurses who come to my home to do dressing changes, now every other day. Because of three necessary endoscopic procedures looking for leaks or abscesses my anastomosis is stretched and I have no more restriction than I had before the revision surgery. I had lost 70 lbs prior to surgery by cutting out all sugar, flour, rice, white potatoes, processed food. I've lost 25 more since the revision. I've been told to get 90 mg protein daily and to limit my calories to 800--which is VERY difficult. To add insult to injury I'm starting to lose my hair, too. I'm really struggling with cravings in the afternoon and night. We are now considering a prescription for CONTRAVE. Do I have regrets for having the revision surgery? Of course! I wish I had left it alone. I wish my surgeon had aborted the revision when he found I had dense adhesions. However, I'm well now and am approaching a 100 lb weight loss.

    June Surgery Date

pre-op diets vary WILDLY from surgeon to surgeon. There is no "gold standard" so each program has their own. Ans mentioned above, the primary goal is simply to shrink the liver to get it out of the way. But if necessary, they can use a tool to hold the liver up and out of the way, so its really not usually a make or break issue. If you are very concerned, you could move to a low carb, high protein, lower calorie diet a few days ahead of time, but its probably not necessary. Your surgeon has their own requirements for a reason and if you trust them, you can trust their requirements.
  25. Your rate of loss always slows as you get closer to your goal weight. You can always depend on that. The heady high rates of loss you experience at the beginning don’t last. You can also stall any number of times along the way. The small weight gain you are seeing at the moment could be related to your health issues or it could be your natural weight fluctuation becoming more noticeable as you get closer to your goal. It could also be your body resettling after your holiday loss & getting you back to where you would have been without the holiday. I’d go for option D - stop panicking & let your body catch up & I’d also add wait for your health to improve. Doesn’t hurt to do a check of your food choices, portion sizes, calories, protein & fluid intake, etc. Though you may be currently struggling with food, there may be something you are missing or could tweak to keep you closer to your plan. All the best
