Smoking Marijuana Preop
CStoned replied to BubblesOhSoSleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told em i drank the (420) "tea" for documented arthritis issues & i made a BIIIIIG deal abt how proud i was of myself 4 taking the initiative to quit smoking ciggs 6 months b4 consult in anticipation of having this surgery. No problems... I think the main thing they hate is nicotine pre-surgery. They trip on weed smoking bc....well, it just isn't federally legal yet. When it is things (and surgery instructions) will change. Sent from my LGMS330 using the BariatricPal App -
Salads and Dry Mouth Questions
genn replied to Jenny Nelson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hav you tried biotene mouth wash it helps with dry mouth and salads are not considered soft foods bc the ate leaf and hard to swallow. Everyone's surgeons guidelines are different tho so I would suggest you asking ur surgeon or your NUT. I know I cannot have salad till I'm on a full regular foods diet. Best of luck sounds like your doing awesome!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
"The last supper" syndrome?
Djmohr replied to llism's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@summerset You're realizing you're kind or rude here as well, right? If not, I've got news for you: you are, my dear. You can eat all the stuff you want and can cut out all the stuff you want. I don't care. If you want to believe in food magic, do so but stop throwing some wild theories (you would call that "nonsense" I supposed) about "not being able to lose weight because of being malnourished" like it's absolutely impossible to lose weight while being deficient in micronutrients. Of course obese people can be malnourished when it comes to micronutrients, everyone can, including people suffering from anorexia nervosa who obviously don't have any problems losing weight despite being malnourished. You said you ate about 3500 cals before surgery and are now maintaining on 1300-1400 cal - a difference of more than 2000 cals a days - but hey! Math is nonsense! It's all magic! It is very clear to me that you don't understand metabolic disease at all but you think you know everything. I might suggest reading up on it before giving your diet guidance to others. As of now, I don't care to argue or listen to your BS any longer so you will be one person that I simply block. I wish you all the best in your approach and hope you get happy and healthy. -
There is a difference between making mistakes and making bad choices. I'm leaving it at that. Bc I don't have nothing nice to say. A prescription diet is to be followed. If u take too more pills then prescribed what happens? U can die. This is not a choice it's a prescription. And hearing someone say we're all human yes we are. But it's not a mistake it's a really bad choice. I wish you nothing but the best from here on out and I'm not here to make you feel bad but to make sure you know that this could have seriously messed u up or killed u!!! Sometimes hearing the truth is what people need to not do it ever again and follow the prescribed diet so if my truthful thoughts succeed in this. That's what I want. I'm not putting her down. I'm simply speaking what she asked of when she posted on a public forum and that's. the truth about what she has done and how dangerous it was. But mistake no that's not a mistake being human no that's not being human that's making a poor choice. Is it human for someone to drink and drive and kill someone????? No that's a bad choice. Is it human to be a drug addict. No it's a bad choice. We need to learn the difference and that we have choices in this yes it's hard believe me I know I love food and I cook for my family every night I bake for them all the time. And would I love to have a bite ooooooohhh heck yeahhhhh. But I know I had this surgery for a reason and that was to start my life on a better track. There is nothing I would do to sabotage it!!! And in that I made a choice!!! Good luck and I hope your okay and I hope ur successful in the rest of ur journey. Nothing but the best!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm about 4 weeks post op and here's how I'm doing...
cklasun replied to RussT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg Russ!!! Almost seventy pounds in 4 weeks! Rock star!!! We got sleeved the same day I'll be 4 weeks fri. I want to thank you for this post. I'm struggling with energy levels. Im nauseous with my Vitamins so I'm sure I'm lacking. I get my Water and Protein in. I'm going to bite the bullet and get more exercise in. Seems crazy bc I have no energy, but I realize it's a catch-22. I have a young son so I'm going to increase walking with him. Maybe join yoga as well it's something I like. I started at 268.8 and I'm 242 even today- down 26.8 lbs. I thought maybe I was tired bc of the rapid weight loss (I'm sure that's part of it, I read that losing weight fast causes hormone dumping). Again, I appreciate your post I like to see other people that are around as far out as I am. I'm happy for you, and I'm going to take your lead. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My Mom earned her RN and a BS in nursing back in the 50s. It was a five year program, and she would become incensed when people would get all jumped up without credentials or experience. She about blew a fuse when I was a teenager helping out at a clinic, and because I was a male, the patients kept referring to me as "The Doctor".

Has anyone been denied by aetna my Bmi is 41 by I don't have any medical issues met all there requirements
jaynamy3 replied to Trina47's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hopefully a peer to peer works for you. It seems to me at least with MY problem it's with the surgeons office I chose and not Aetna. I spoke to my case worker at Aetna today who indicated my BMI is under Bc the surgeons office has me an inch taller than my family physician, gynecologist, and nutritionist that kept weights and my height as well. So it's the surgeons office who screwed up on my behalf. I left the office a message to call me and a short sweet to the point message of you have my height at 5'6" which is wrong. I was nice but still makes me angry. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Newbie with tons of unanswered questions
izzy13 replied to Bjordan2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. My sister is an RN and had sleeve surgery while working in a busy ER, if I remember correctly she took a month off bc of the lifting pushing and pulling she needed to be able to do. I was cleared for all that at my 1 mo po (I have a desk job but freelance as an EMT). My sister sometimes forgot to eat when she was working a busy shift, she had to start setting reminders to stop and eat during her 12 hr shifts. 3. In my packet it indicated that sleeve patients should never allow blind NG tubes be inserted, they need to be X-ray guided. Not sure if that's a thing from my surgeon but I wouldn't want them to punch a hole through my new stomach on accident. 4. I asked my surgeon what his rate of complications was and he indicated that they do happen rarely, mostly from pts not doing what they are supposed to but he said I had to keep an open mind that occasionally a revision to bypass is needed if there are complications with the sleeve. That's always in the back of my mind but so far, knock on wood, no issues for me my surgeon and his team have been excellent (I'm in upstate NY). In a month and a half I've lost 32 pounds and I started with a low BMI of 35, I'm off my HTN meds and feeling great. Good luck, it's a lot to take in but do your research and you should be ok with what ever you decide! -

Not enough protein shakes
pminshew replied to pminshew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmm that's a really good idea. Thanks so much!! I'll check my local GNC to see if they carry anything of the sort. I'm not one to normally say I'm starving bc I'm very fortunate and never have been, but this liquid diet has been tough, tough. My surgeon and the bariatric nurses I had to meet with post op yesterday assured me I wouldn't be hungry in a few days. I just would anything for a taco salad from my local Mexican restaurant! greycurls replied to OhHeyMarina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm on the same time frame with everything as you and today i saw that i'm finally down 5 lbs in four days. but it's shark week sooooo... and that's probably not helping me feel completely opposite of you-- i'm actually quite hungry. like right now. i had my first shake at 7 and i'm already looking at the clock bc of how hungry i am. ugh. but i totally got this! it's hard but it's not impossible. -
I'm still not seeing any change an I can eat anything I'm regretting not doing the rny instead of the sleeve I thought i would feel a stop point but i don't I have to just stop bc I'm afraid I'm consuming a lot I spin for an hr a day can't wait to go back to weights but I'm miserable bc I thought I would want food less I went in to my dr today miserable bc if I could lose it via dieting I wouldn't have done this in the first place Sw270 Cw 260 Sleeved 11/17 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Just free weights. I own 1lb., 5lb. and 10lb. ones. I used to have a weight bench and curl bar so I could add weight onto it. You can google curl bar and see what I mean or I can point you to some links. I had to sell the weight bench and curl bar, unfortunately, bc I have tendon and ligament issues and am only allowed to lift up to 10 lbs. That's why I now use free weights. Oh, and these tendon and ligament issues have nothing to do with the DS. They began long before I had it done.

Saturday night I woke up at about 11 PM and my stomach was soaked and through my pants were soaked I called the surgeon to let him know that I had serous drainage. As a nurse I know that this is common however I have never seen it so bad in all my years of nursing. So he stated to just put a dressing over it and it should be okay. So the next morning I wake up still draining. By after noon is was draining so bad that the dressing was soaked within ten mins of changing it and I don't mean just wet I mean soaking through pants shirt and hoody. So my husband said I think u need to call the surgeon back. Long story short he said met me at the office on a Sunday which was wonderful since he was in the operating room all day anyways he said. So he looked at it and said everything looks okay and it may take a few days to stop draining. Today it's still draining super bad. I've been nauseous today a lot and now started with diarrhea. I'm hoping not related . I just don't wanna develope seroma. Or any infection as a nurse I do great with patients but not with my kids or myself bc I fear the worse. Lol. Which I know co workers have told me they're the same way when it comes to them or they're family probably bc of all the things we see in patients. Anyways I'm still soaking through dressings like crazy changes them atleast ten times today already. They have me comming back in tomorrow morning. I guess my biggest fear is that everything has gone sooooo smooth is this where I start having complications? Has anyone else had this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

A lot of hormones are released from your fat cells when you lose weight really fast, and that could be causing the weird periods but to be safe I would call your surgeon or your OBGYN and ask about it. I started birth control (nuvaring) after my surgery and it keeps my periods pretty regular, not sure how they would be if I wasn't on the BC Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

Over emotional and regretting surgery?
CStoned replied to AimeeAnd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in my 3rd week post op and my emotions are cray also. I am insta-snappy as of late and i really hafta be aware &practice muuuch stress relief bc im also a caregiver. Not easy. What i feel is happening to me...food isn't there as my buffer anymore. Used to be if I was in a icky mood, go cook something cool &all is well. If i was tired &didn't wanna cook, order a fav pizza...bored? Have a snack.... All that's gone now. The adjustment is brutal! Im praying its all worth it &i don't fail at this... Thanks a bunch. Was it covered at 100% bc you've met your deductible? I called the program insurance coordinator and they referred me to BCBS, which referred me back to the office, lol. It's a huge hospital system, so I'll just have to spend some time drilling down this week and figure it out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Glad you're doing ok on it tho! I'm pretty sure I'll do good. It's just a mental thing for me. Lol. Like omg I'm not sure I could ever eat this again. I feel bad bc I'm having pizza tonight before I go on it tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have bcbs fed, and the insurance specialist at the surgeons office told me that it will be covered 100%, and I will just have to pay copays, which amount to 500. But it also depends on how much overweight you were going in, and if you had pre existing conditions. A lot of variables come into play. I would call the insurance specialist at your docs office and inquire about it. Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using the BariatricPal App

I have surgery on the 21st and can't get clear numbers on how much I'll have to pay and when. I know I pay 15% of the plan, plus $350 for the hospital stay. I've met my deductible. How much did you have to pay before surgery with BCBS FED? Thx. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Three years and a lifetime later
ladyslim2015 replied to Kindle's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My year one was positivity, amazement, activities. Yeah and new clothes. My year two was also realization that it is right that no matter what size those things that made you unhappy still exist and there's continued work to be made. I'm now working on not regaining bc I strayed from the path and now not having any restriction anymore.
