I have heard the skin can tighten back a little, after a year or two and with exercise. Not sure if there's any truth to that, but I hope so.

I use the St Ives Timeless Skin Moisturizer even before surgery and it seems to have helped a really deep line I had on my forehead. I saw it on an episode of Dr Oz, they were talking about cheaper alternatives to Wrinkles/Aging that were good. I am happy with it now, but still have a lot of weight to lose, so I may get more wrinkles before it's all over with. It says it is "collagen elastin" on the jar. I got it at Walmart for a little over $5. I think they had other stuff, maybe a scrub? While looking at supplements, I also saw where you can get collagen supplements to take orally. Seemed like it had some good reviews. I am 47 so I thought I needed to start some kind of regimen. I just had no idea what to get either, but the price was reasonable on this so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Hi KCG, Yes, you are reading my ticker correctly. I have 58lbs to loose. I lost 30lbs on my own prior to deciding to have the band done. I guess I am just being impatient. I haven't even had a fill yet. I suppose I just need some encouragement. Thanks all!

great job! i was just noticing too that my wedding ring is perty dang loose. it keeps turning on my finger. i thought i would wait a little longer before i have it resized too. congrats again!

You are only 25, you may not have problems like us old-timers! Keep exercising and moisturize your skin. Hopefully you will be lucky and it will bounce back. I am 51 and have lost 123 pounds so far. Yes I am saggy, but damn proud because I feel much better, look much better and if I want, I can fix the skin issue. Sure beats the continued issues I would have if I were still carrying the extra 123 pounds. Remember why we are doing this.

Metabolism- Eating 3x A Day Or 6x A Day?
Thomas CPA replied to sirensiren's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My doctor, PA, and nutritionist all said same thing - three regular meals a day avoid snacking to avoid putting weight on. Once I started back at gym/trainer I was put on higher caloric diet to compensate avoid to fast of a weight loss and to keep stamina up. Prior to surgery you needed the metabolism boost to weight loss, you don't need your metabolism burning all the time now lest you loose to fast. -
I got my lapband for the same reason , years of trying diets and loosing and putting it back on , I also realise it is just a tool but even so some of us will still have times when we struggle , I am doing the same , my dietition told me following surgery I would never need to go on a diet again , that may be true , at mo my weight has stuck and that is frustrating , my personal hell bandster style .

Sharp pains in incisions
Heyher replied to kristyh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I learned after breast reduction that the quick almost zing like pain is the nerves that were cut firing off and trying to reconnect. Constant pain could indicate an infection at or under the skin. Monitor your temp if the pain is persistent and note any fever. Pain around the incision with heat and redness is cause for concern and a call to the doc/trip to ER. Pay attention to the type of pain and talk to your doc. But just remember there are tons of nerves that were cut through and tons of healing going on. -
The key is to look at the positive. You are loosing and not gaining weight. I have been in the same situation and am currently 29 weeks post sleeve (tomorrow). My weight loss has slowed to about 1 lb a week for the past 2 months. I have tried several different things (less calories, more calories, more Water, more Protein, more exercise) but the weight just doesn't seem to budge. I will loose 2 lbs in one day then gain 1 lb the next day. I have tried not checking my weight daily (sometimes AM and PM when I am obsessing about weight. The only thing this does is cause me more stress and that in turn slows weight loss. So.... I chant to myself that I am loosing weight slowly so the weight will stay off. When I am tempted (friends never understand the sabotage they offer to my goal at this time of year with all the goodies they bake) I tell myself that by sticking to my goals now, I will enjoy the holidays next year in a smaller body. Hang in there (what else can you do...have them put back the excised stomach?!?)

For Those Of Us Who Weigh Everyday, Do You Notice A Trend?
crosabi replied to adargie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a daily weigher too. I first use the bathroom (they say u shouldn't have a full bladder lol). Then I weigh myself. N the first month i was loosing at least 3-5 lbs a week n now I am loosing .2 to .6 ever other day or so. But I too hv noticed that all weekend I weigh the same then Tuesday comes around and the scale goes down. -
it will be BETTER!! Im going throught the same. But i have had 4 fills and still feel zero restriction. My scale keeps playing with the same 2 lbs....so what i decided to do is keep working out and stop weighing myself and look at how my clothes fit me. I have one particular problem spot (belly) that doesnt seem to want to go away. I know i am still eating way to much...my next fill is 2 months, my goal is to try to loose 10lbs by then. Keep your head up!! It has take me 10 years to gain 100lbs i should not expect to loose it in less that 1 year...

10lb equals you haveing caused a 35,000 calorie deficient...so I think that is a major accomplishment! If you really want to get a visual...go to the store and pick up 10lbs of butter, and think about the fact that it used to be on your body! I sometimes think its a wonder I can walk around since I seem to be carrying a large child around in excess weight. I could carry 3 of my five year old and it would equal about the weight I have to loose. Melissa

March 20th Dr Lopez anyone? travelling alone from Oz
pandashazz posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hello! Was just wondering whether there is anyone else out there having their sleeve on the same day as me? I am booked in at Mi Doctor Hospital under Dr Lopez for the 20th March. I know it's going to be difficult for me and I'm a Registered Nurse that works in Endoscopy/theatre, but I am travelling from Western Australia alone. Was hoping I could befriend someone whilst there! Any advice and support would be greatly appreciated. I have been reading many many posts on this and other sites so think I know what to expect and what to pack. Unfortunately I will have to endure a very long flight with 2 plane changes along the way, so just keeping my fingers, toes, legs and anything else I can cross crossed and hope that I am comfortable enough to travel back on the 27th, landing back home 2 days later on the 29th. I then have a week at home to recover. I am thinking I would normally have 2 days to recover from the jet lag alone but I have the option to take more time off if I need it. I have only told my 2 best friends and they think I am mad, but my husband is very supportive but couldn't get the time off from work. Please someone tell me I'm not crazy! I have always been the fat kid and now fat adult, been on and off too many diets to remember loosing some then regaining it all back plus more for over 30 yrs, I now finally say enough's enough. Thanks in advance -
Slow weight loss after Lap band revision to RYN?
jgarcia323 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
How true is it that those who underwent revision from Lap band to RNY loose weight slower than "virgin" RYN patients? -
Hi. Insurance can help, but you must have documented medical problems from the excess skin. By documented I meandoctor visits and prescriptions for skin problems. You will also need to find a PS willing to go through the insurance process for you, and in many cases you must be prepared for out-of-pocket expenses. My websites have a downloadable document called "Tips for getting insurance approval" under PATIENT RESOURCES plus another article in the NeWeigh newsletter you may find helpful. Long term overseas travel 4 months post op
Bufflehead replied to Nikkinee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
With respect to item no. 1, you are traveling to areas that tend to eat carb-heavy cuisines (rice and noodles in Japan, rice, lentils, beans in south Asia, rice, corn and beans in Mexico). So, I think you'll have to be committed to avoiding those foods to a great extent and working at getting lots of meat and green veggies. You can get those things anywhere, but you may have to look harder and work harder to get what you need. Are you willing to do that? If so, go for it! You do not need a bunch of frankenfood protein powders and protein bars and special artificially flavored popsicles and cashew milk and whatever. You just need meat and green veggies and to not fall into the easy trap of eating the big scoop of rice that may start appearing whenever you eat out. As far as exercise goes, people in India and Japan and Mexico probably get more exercise than your typical "first worlder"(assuming you are American, Western European, etc, your profile doesn't say). Commit to doing a lot of walking. Figure out how people where you are get exercise and do it. If it doesn't happen, that's not ideal, but exercise really has a minimal impact on weight loss. You can tone up when you get done with your travels (exercise is not going to have an impact on whether or not you end up with loose skin, so if you are worrying about that, put it aside). People notice what we eat a lot less than we think they do. People will be paying attention to their own food, not yours. Certainly don't let potential judgments from other people stop you from doing what you've wanted to do for a long time. Anyone who is rude enough to make a comment on someone else's eating habits is just a jerk, and you can't let jerks control your life. -
Proactive Approach to Loose Skin
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to Pebbagirl's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
The only that helps even a little is weight strengthening. But even then, there's no guarantee you won't have loose skin.. Whether or not you have excess is decided by a lot of factors. Genetics, age, how long you've been overweight and how overweight you are, hydration, whether or not you smoke, and even where you carry the weight. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, if you're going to have excess skin there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. -
Wrinkles?!?!?! Help!
Indigo1991 replied to nomorecupcakes's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Keeping well hydrated really helps plump up your skin. I went through a phase when I got a few sunken bits and the wrinkles looked more pronounced. As I am 20 years older than you, I was extremely worried as my face had looked ok before! But that has passed and I look more like myself again... and Water did help. Now if you really want to talk wrinkles, my butt would give a Shar-Pei a run for its money (google it, lol!) -
Breast Augmentation with cancer history in the family?
LilBoo007 replied to Bronco0605's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
From what I understand implants under the muscle hide the implant so to speak. For people like me who don't have any breast tissue or breast "fat" left an only have skin on top of muscle... If they were to put the implant on top of the muscle you would see the implant and you would see rippling and what not, so they put it under the muscle to try to mask or hide the implant so you hopefully won't see any rippling or anything. -
From the album: 5 Months Post-op
My once tight 3X is quite loose now - Yay! -
I did a search and after looking at dozens of pages couldn't find what I was looking for. Port pain. Sore and sometimes feels like a gall stones...the same kind of pain. Before I go to my doctor only to spend a small fortune to find out it's nothing or nothing can be done....I thought I'd ask everyone on Lapbandtalk. I use a heating pad and lie down and that seems to do the trick. But it's everyday almost now. I just had an unfill so I could stop loosing weight. Any ideas?

Thank you! I see that we have about the same numbers. I can't believe you already had plastic surgery. How did that go? If I might say (and you already know this) but be patient, you will break the stall. I finally did. I went to my bariatric surgeon today and I'm down again. He said even if I don't loose in the next year, my body will still change, muscle tone, skin, etc. He doesn't want to see me again for another year. woohoo So I think I will wait a few more months before I see a plastic surgeon. Keep up the good work, the worse is over, IMO. We are AWESOME!!!!

Can anyone feel their band?
jmegirl replied to princess070's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know why it would be more noticeable after you eat, but what you're feeling/seeing is your port. Your port is where they inject the saline that tightens your band, and the port is placed just under the skin, typically in the area you're talking about. -
JC, Dr. Szomstein is my dr. too! I know it's going to take a long time. I started in July and don't expect surgery till Dec 2003 or Jan 2004. I originally went to US Bariatrics at Holy Cross, but they only want to talk me into RNY. I have about 85 pounds to loose and I don't care if it takes me 2 years to loose it (US Bariatric's big plug for RNY is that you loose it faster and that it's the "gold standard"!) 4-5 lbs a month is fine with me and a less risky, reversible (if necessary) procedure is why I want the band!!!!! Oh Well....in the mean time, I'm waiting! Keep in touch and GO DOLPHINS! Marsha
