  1. I have seen a lot of people that are having to have the revision after the sleeve due to inadequate weight loss or severe reflux. BUT there are also alot of people who have had major success with the sleeve. Its just a personal choice. The bypass is a better deterrent from going back to eating the junky, sugary and fattening foods that got us here to start with. Lol. I know thats what i need. Lol. I need something that will force me to change my habits and keep me in line. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. You can get a revision! No need for a total reversal unless tests prove otherwise. RNY can KILL. My sister went with a RNY because insurance paid for it but she ended up with two bowel resections and multiple stays in the hospital. Join MGB Group on Facebook. Both Dr. Rutledge and Dr. Peraglie watch the page and can jump in when needed. We have members from all over the world who have had or are hoping to have the procedure and many have years of experience.
  3. Dr. Jaime Ponce de Leon, in Tijuana, Mexico! His Patient Coordinator is Trish. She and he are the super team :-). Dr. Ponce is renowned in Mexico, and taught a lot of the other doctors mentioned. Trish was the main factor to build the trust. You won't regret this choice. Dr. Ponce is $5500. ($500 more for very high BMI or Lapland revision.) I'm Day 4 Post OP, feel great! Almost Died Fm Vsg Surgery.

I agree that 350 dollars is A LOT of money for your medical records! Unless you had 50 years worth the medical records copied out, it shouldn't have been more than at least 30 dollars (given that you had x-rays etc. included in the records, if not then it shouldn't have been more than about 5 dollars!) I'm not calling you a liar either. If they charged you 350 dollars you were MAJORLY ripped off! Medical Records Copying Charges Louisiana Louisiana Revised Statutes 40:1299.96 For records, a reasonable charge not to exceed: $1.00 per page for first 25 pages $0.50 per page for pages 26-500 $0.25 per page thereafter Plus handling charge of $25.00 Plus actual postage For x-rays, microfilm, electronic, and imaging media: Reasonable reproduction costs Plus handling charge of $20.00 for hospitals, $10.00 for other health care providers
  5. Hello everyone. I'll get straight to the point, I never wanted a bypass but i got a botched gastric sleeve surgery and was unable to eat and drink for nearly 3 months. My only option to was having a gastric bypass-it was a necessary revision surgery if I ever wanted to eat or drink again. I'm nearly three weeks out and having a very hard time. I was eating ok two weeks out then all of a sudden i started becoming nauseous and losing my appetite. I have a Gtube and a jp drain tube in-jp comes out Wednesday thank God. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the fact some things I'll never be able to eat again. It saddens me. I would really love to meet someone in the Toledo or Michigan area to buddy up with, or someone i can talk to that's been through or that's going through the same. What foods work for.you what doesn't, etc. thanks in advance

Checking in with all the february peeps

I am coming up on 4 months Post op and I am so happy. The Scale this morning said 200.5 I am so excited to think I will be under 200 pounds again. It has been 16 years since I was under 200 pounds. I am not there yet but so confident in the sleeve surgery, after a failed lap band. I had a rough day the other day, was picking at food all day long and made a spaghetti bolognese for dinner. My baby 4 ounce stomach had just about enough of my bad behavior and let me know. for all you lap band to sleeve revisions who had no problem vomiting daily like I did. This was so different. It was torture. and I am so Happy it was. With the lap band if something got stuck, just vomit. I feel like I will never do that again after what it was like to puke up spaghetti bolognese. lesson learned. Would love to hear from the February peeps the good bad and ugly. 53.2 pounds down. Not even 4 months out.

    The Bandster A Dying Breed?

Agree with that. I went with 2 people who had Bands and revised one to Bypass one to Sleeve in the last month. But the Band has worked good for me, them not so much. cheri

    Reboot?

The same thing has happened to me. I was thinking about getting the revision surgery. I'd rather not go under the knife again. I know that you can do the diet from the first month to shrink your stomach again. Im m not sure how effective it is though.

    3rd fill

I got my 3rd fill yesterday afternoon. I am now at 5.3 CCs. I feel great too. I lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks!!!!!!!! :glare: I am on a huge high about it too, if you can't tell. He did tell me that I have to start working out. I have been getting in the pool a little but not enough to really count it as working out. I am on liquids today and soft foods. In the waiting room I met 2 ladies that were getting revision surgeries from the band. they had the 4 CC bands. they kind of scared me a little about getting to the sweet spot. Saying that I will throw up and not be able to get anything down. I hope that does not happen. I think I am doing pretty good at this fill point, but still want to lose more... I am getting irritated a lot faster with people and upset when they suggest that I should have lost more weight. I know it is slow going, but at least the scale is going down instead of up, right? Oh well I am trying to not focus on that kind of talk. The doctor said that it is normal to be a little emotional and that is part of the ride for now. Oh well, I also tend to get over things fast now. I am so excited about all the changes with my body, that I tend to get over the things that upset me. And I am not turning to food when I get upset. Anywho... doing well today and glad to have lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks!!!! How cool is this!
  11. HELLO! I had a sleeve never have had a revision, however, I am 18 days past surgery, over 21 pounds lost and doing well. I still have to learn when I am full. Tend to eat too much, then I puke and I am fine. Hell it doesnt even hurt when that happens. Only hurts when I eat too much. Ruthi had a revision so maybe she can give you some insight on what is what. You will do fine---Dr Aceves is great and the entire staff is wonderful. Prayers are with you.:thumbup1:
  12. Josephine, Does that mean that the port is still in there? That really sucks! I'm going on Wednesday to check if my slip fixed itself! I am so wanting a sleeve, and need to demand a revision. You are doing fabulous, Keep it up! Patti

    Going Alone

I will be going to OCC in Tijuana for my revision surgery, and I am going alone because we just cannot afford for my husband to take the time off. I am getting kind of worried that I will have problems, but I have been there several times alone for band fills, etc. Also, surely this surgery cannot hurt any more than the lapband surgery did.. I mean, it is the same holes, practically, and I wasn't too inconvenienced by the band surgery. Am I naive or missing something?
  14. I only had 1 day pre op for when I was banded a few years ago and did revision 7/1/15 and had 1 day of clear liquids and both times no issue.
  15. Dealing with the "you can't have" is just part of the process as you prepare your mind. I cited those 2 things specifically for several years as the reason I would never have WLS, but I have finally come to terms with it. As you can see from above, all drs are different and as a general rule it probably just isn't the best choices you can make. I don't drink coffee but had to give up a bad Diet Dr Pepper habit. I think maybe someday I will likely try a soda, but so far, I haven't missed it as much as I thought I would. I am more scared of the pain carbonation would cause me than anything right now. 3 months from now may be a different story, but my therapist keeps reminding me to stay in the present and don't worry about 3 months away for now. Re the alcohol, I do plan to have an occasional drink eventually; however, I do have 2 friends who ended up as alcoholics following surgery -1 of them still drinking even after a revision. The risk of transferring addiction to alcohol is very very real, so I think for most this has to be approached very carefully. Don't let these 2 things scare you off. Once you get there, these 2 items will likely be the least of your concerns.
  16. I had my original surgery Gastric Bypass in 2008 and it was successful, I went from weighing 345 to 190lbs, through the course of 10+ yrs I’ve had 3 children and gained weight, I went for the revision last week, from what I was told I won’t loose as much weight as when I got my original surgery... but everyone is different so I’m hopeful. surgery was Oct 16 and I went in weighing in at 237lbs as of today I’m 228... so it’s working wonderfully and I’m feeling better.

    Too Tight or Just Right

You know my 1st choice was not the lapband--it was the "sleeve." But my friend and this website changed my mind because the sleeve was relatively new and not a lot of data on it. Well, this website has a forum on "lapband to sleeve revision" which I have been reading. I know its costly but maybe insurance might cover it. Anyway, read that forum to get an idea on why those banders changed their thinking on the band and went with the sleeve. It mostly has to do with food getting stuck and not having the quality of life they desire. Its just a thought--an alternative.
  21. Anytime, Rose. I, too had a revision from the band to VSG. Best decision EVER.

    Once Bitten, Twice Shy

I'm 18.5 weeks pregnant. I won't have any issues losing the pregnancy weight. I'll just low carb it again until I get the weight off. I gained a few pounds over the holidays and dropped those pounds in a little over a week just by cutting alcohol and carb consumption. As for the breakdown of weight gain with a pregnancy, this is what they've outlined for my weight gain: Maternal Fat- 7lbs Baby- 6-8lbs (average is 7.5lbs) Increases Fluid (blood volume)-2-4 ( a mother's blood volume typically doubles during pregnancy) Amniotic Fluid- 1-1.5lbs Placenta- 2lbs Breast tissue/mammary system weight increase - 1-2lbs Watch out for the ROSE procedure, it has an 85% failure rate. This is also discussed heavily on the obesityhelp.com Revision forum. ERNY (extended RNY, where they remove more intestine to start malabsorption again since intestinal adaptation has taken over at this point for you) is also an option. They will shorten your common channel by another 50-100cm. You definitely want to know before you agree to a revision if you have a pouch or stoma dilation because if you have actual mechanical failure with your RNY even a band over the pouch isn't going to do much because once the food passes through the band pouch into your RNY pouch, you will still be able to more food, and your malabsorption is gone. As for Jerusalem clinic, honestly, out of over 3 years on weight loss forums, I have never read of one patient having a RNY take down and revision to the VSG being performed there and honestly that is possibly why they are recommending the band over the bypass pouch to give you restriction again. Seriously, I can name 4 surgeons worldwide that are experienced with these surgeries, and with self-pay patients the cost just for the surgeon run upwards of 20-30k because it is such a complicated and exhausting surgery to take down an old RNY. I promise I researched revisions for months once I knew my band had to come out. The risks for complications especially leaks from scar tissue and adhesions literally quadruples with revisions vs. a virgin, unaltered stomach/intestinal tract. I had a leak with a band revision to VSG after only having the band for 8 months, and actually lost more stomach tissue because of the damage the band had done. My surgeon was experienced with revisions, and I happen to be a statistic of his that I'd like to take back. I was his first and only VSG leak so it can happen even with really experienced surgeons. I'm not slamming Jerusalem Clinic, but revisions are super tricky, complicated, and I would hate to see you fork out the money, get a surgery that is as high maintenance as the BOB procedure and then continue to struggle with your weight and be looking at or for another surgery. There have been RNY to VSG revisions performed due to reactive hypoglycemia symptoms and diagnosis after RNY, but again, it's a very complicated surgery with high risks. Just choose carefully, and continue to research your options.

    Once Bitten, Twice Shy

Hello! First of all, I know nothing about the band, but there's a whole section about it here http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/13-band-to-sleeve-revisions/ , I read that many people did it, I am sure you can find answers there! Second... I am so NOT killing myself in the gym. I go to the gym a couple of times a week, sometimes more IF I feel like it. I hate sport, I know it's good for me and that's the only reason why I do it. I am not going to become an athlete! And I am still losing. I had my surgery done in Greece but I live in Italy, so I had no follow up. Luckily I had no problems. My GP made me have some blood tests after surgery and she's keeping an eye on me, so I guess it's good if you talk to yours as well. I had no psychiatric evaluation, obviously, before the sleeve, but since I got back I am seeing a psychologist on a regular base because I want help dealing with sleeve, the changes etc without breaking down, but this is my choice. This is my experience and I hope it can help a little...
  24. Hi All, Well there is definately a difference between my first band surgery and my revision. There is no fill in the band at all and I am STARVING. I've been on Clear liquids up until I had some tomato Soup this evening (same consistency at Slim Fast) and that finally took away the terrible hunger pains I was having. I mean, it was actual PAIN. And it's only been four days since the surgery. I am surprised I am so hungry even though I don't have any fill. Anyone else here had a revision have the same experience? The doctor did mention to me I didn't have to be on the clear liquid phase for as long as normal because I would be hungrier, but this is bad! Hopefully when I add yogurt to my diet tomorrow that will help some. Any thoughts? Mae
  25. Great post! Couldn't agree with you more. After going through the lap-band roller coaster, I was so happy to find that I am able to eat whatever I want after having the sleeve for a few months. The awesome thing is, I crave healthier food in general. When I feel weird, I eat some chicken and I feel better. I carry string cheese and Peanut Butter filled pretzels in my purse and that will get me through several HOURS of the day. I can say that I never feel hungry, but I start to feel weird if I don't eat for a few hours. Most of all, I can't compare my weight loss to a lot of people on the board because I was a lap-band revision and I don' t have as much to lose. However, I think the percentages are extremely similar for everyone. I am 4 months out and I have lost 66% of the excess weight. I am on target to lose it all in 6 to 8 months. But, if someone hears I have only lost 40 pounds in 4 months, they might think I was a slow loser. Bottom line: you are right, it all comes out in the end. I don't count carbs, but I have more of a yearning for healhty food. I eat a lot of cheese, I have developed a weird craving for Starbucks iced mocha lattes (which I can only handle about 1/3 of then I throw it away), I have rekindled a torrid love affair with chicken, and I eat one serving of oatmeal every day (for fiber) which I have never done before in my life. I focus on Protein first because it makes me feel better - that's it. If chocolate made me feel better, I would probably eat that first :-) Nice to hear from you and really happy you are cruising right along!
