    Protein HELP

My dietician suggested I do this when I was trying to maintain so for the calories not so much the extra protein. I found it sweet though so only did it when making chia pudding. Makes the milk richer & creamier - bit more than full cream milk.
  2. So i’ve been bugging Mr to grill me up a steak all week cuz i was terribly missing some good quality, well cooked MEAT since vacay (where the food was borderline terrible!) Tonight, Mr. came through and prepared THREE of these babies!! Its hard to tell in the pic, but this Porterhouse is GIGANTIC. It was almost 2 inches thick raw, and weighed 2.35 lbs cooked. 😳. Did i mention he made THREE of these?!?! Overkill is an understatement cuz I ate like 1 measly oz of it. Along with some roasted asparagus and portobello mushrooms. Cleaned my bowl: 345 calories, which included an espresso martini i drank beforehand (not shown). Totally hit the spot! Mr is gonna be rewarded for his efforts later (once my food is digested 😂😂😂😂)

    Sleeve to DS

I just had my revision from Sleeve to Loop DS/SIPS/SADI two days ago. I was having your exact symptoms BEFORE my surgery from the powder protein shakes. I was using Bariatric Advantage, Vanilla, which is why I logged in today to see if I can return 75% of the bag. Those shakes made me feel horrible, constipated and bloated, WITH diarrhea and all the other symptoms you described. I stopped doing the poweder protein shakes from Bariatric Advantage, and switched to similar count Protein/Sugar/Calories/Vitamins, made by Slimfast. The chocolate flavor was divine after drinking down chalk for 5 days! I bring all this up because this all happened BEFORE the surgery, and it was because of the powder protein shakes. Add Benefiber to every shake, or take Colace twice a day to get you back to normal. Or better yet, switch to the Slimfast Advanced Nutrition High Protein ones. They taste 1000% times better and no horrible symptoms, but you still need the Benefiber or Colace bc of the High Protein. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    RNY maintenance calories?

it's really an individual thing. It depends on your height, activity level, metabolic rate, and how much weight you're trying to maintain. As an example, you can eat a lot more calories if you're trying to maintain 160 lbs vs 120 lbs. I'm 5'6", fairly active, and try to stay in the 150-160 range. I can eat 1700 calories and maintain that. But i know women (WLS) who can eat 2000 calories and maintain, and others who have to stick to 1200-ish to maintain. the best way to figure out your range is trial and error, unfortunately.
  5. So I had my appointment with my dietician and it got me curious to know what are average maintenance calories for RNY-ers. Those who are in maintenance, can you note down your calories here so I can have an idea how to gradually increase my calories. Thank you

I'm 43 and 5'6" with CW of 212. It took years to get to the point of accepting I need this surgery. With major calorie restriction and constant exercise, I can get to about 210. I always end up rebounding to between 240-250. I wish you good luck on your surgery!
  7. I had a revision from vsg to rny last august for gerd. It didn't take long to lose a lot of weight and hit and pass goal. I actually lost faster on the revision than the with the sleeve. My workout is less than when I had the sleeve due to much lower calorie intake after the revision. I had quite a bit of side effects with the sleeve (gerd, TMI stuff... Etc.) but none so far with the rny. Everything was resolved. I'm at the 10th month mark. Like you, I was concerned about whether I could lose more weight and the surgeon remarked "Oh, you WILL lose weight. Your pouch will be the size of an egg." He was correct. You'll definitely lose weight after the revision.
  8. I am on day 13 of 100% liquid Diet. My surgery is this coming Monday 6/6. As per nurse if is not on the list I am not allow to eat it 😐 but it is almost over 😄
  9. Hope your doing well, I’m down 86.5lbs to (193lbs) since my late January surgery. I take my vitamins and walk everyday. I also work out 3 days a week. Still some days only consume 700-1000 calories and some days 1600 cals. I feel great!! Very happy with my progress and the decision to get this surgery. I also haven’t had a stall yet.

    5 days post op

I slept propped up in my loveseat because I don't have a recliner. It worked well. I had to do it for about a week before I could sleep in my bed. As for the fluids and protein, that's likely the reason you're feeling off. Also, you may not be getting enough calories. Try to drink protein shakes and protein water, that way you can at least get your fluids and protein in at the same time.

    Starting over post 2 years

seven years out. The only macro I pay attention to at this point is protein. I have to have around 100 grams a day because we discovered early on that I malabsorb it, but most patients do fine on 60-80 grams. calories per day is going to vary from person to person. I know women who can eat 2000 and maintain, and I know other women who have to stay around 1200 to maintain. It depends on how tall you are, how active you are, your metabolic rate, and what weight you're trying to maintain. If you're trying to maintain 160 lbs, for example, you can eat a lot more than if you're trying to maintain 120 lbs. That said, I can maintain my current weight if I eat around 1700 calories a day, but again, that's a really individual thing. You just have to play around with calorie ranges until you find the one that works for you. hardcore rule - weight 30 minutes after eating to drink anything. That one is for life. dumping syndrome - only about 30% of bypassers have that - I've never had it. But it's caused by eating too much sugar or too much fat at one sitting. You can prevent it by avoiding or limiting the amount of sugar or fat you eat at one sitting.
  12. Hi all. First time poster! Looking to start over, basically. I had weight loss surgery almost two years ago, lost all the weight, and have kept it off. However, it hasn't been for discipline, as my diet is fairly relaxed (too much) and I'm still struggling with dumping syndrome. I don't have a lot of information for the healed/maintenance phase. I've had a couple of requested appointments with my surgeon's office but the nutritionist is...not the best. So! For those who were given this info or are this far out: What should my macros be this far out? Calories per day? Portions? Any hardcore rules to still follow? Any tips to get rid of dumping syndrome? Let's start there. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks all and hope everyone is doing well on their plans!
  13. I realize my meals have been lacking of greenery of late (i have yet to go grocery shopping since coming back from vacay). 🤷🏻‍♀️ Jamaican beef patty and some Ketchup chips. Ate 1/2 the patty and all the chips: 346 calories. I’ve been told that Ketchup Chips aren’t as widely available in the US as it is in Canada. If the Americans on here haven’t yet sampled Ketchup chips, you don’t know what you are missing!! Think: sweet/tangy/savoury. #yum

Frustrated with being unable to eat

Aawwww big hugs, it gets better it really does. Just do what you can food wise to help me through these stages I had things like KFC mash and gravy, chocolate mousse kids yoghurts and stuff like that. Staying on soft foods longer isn't a bad thing if your tummy isn't ready for the next stage . I was at the 4 month mark before I could comfortably eat real food and I even had days where I couldnt. At this point you are eating such tiny amounts that having things slightly higher in calories isn't going to hurt your weight loss. I know a lot will disagree with that but it worked for me. The restriction lessens so take advantage of it while you can.

    Food Before and After Photos

Growing up my favorite summer sandwich was always cucumber and tomato on wonder bread with Mayo salt and pepper. I’d also eat an entire can of cooked spinach with added salt uncooked as a snack. Now that I’m an adult, I eat these or more accurately, half of these. 😂 No leftovers for later as a kid claimed the rest. The spoon was meant for a yogurt that went pack in the fridge. I’ll adjust the calories later.

What is your preop diet like? I am on a 3wk pre opl. protein shakes for breakfast & lunch 1st snack is 2 boiled eggs or 2oz lean meat or 2oz lowfat 2% cheese. 2nd snack is 1 serving non-starchy veggie and 1 serving healthy fat Dinner is 3-4oz protein, 1 serving non-starchy veggie and 1 serving healthy fat. I am averaging around 900 calories high protein low fat, low carbs. I have a meal or snack every 2-3hrs and that seems to stop hunger. The day before surgery I am on pure liquids. As far as cravings, it gets easier the further along you are in the process. I wont lie the first few days I cried cause my addiction is real and facing it isn't fun. Never say never again to seafood. Eventually you will be able to have healthier versions and smaller portions of them.

    Protein HELP

For those needing protein ideas, I recently tried Oikos Yogurt. It has 140 calories and 20g of protein. Very good source of protein. I have been having that for breakfast along with a little oatmeal. For my protein boost if my food does not measure up for the day, I use Unjury powder. It is 100 calories and comes in a variety of flavors. I prefer the chicken broth flavor and the french onion soup flavor. I just could not do the protein shakes any longer. This is working for me. If I meet my protein goal with other meal items, I skip the protein powder for the day. I try to get 80g of protein.
  19. Totally unnecessary news, but last night I pooped y’all. 13 days, 2.4 lbs off the scale afterwards. Then i fell asleep afterwards from the effort. 🥹 Anyhoo, this morning i woke up STARVING (well for me) and fixed myself a rare before-noon meal. I made bbq ribs for the fam last night (which I didn’t eat any of…see poop-sleep above), so I heated up some of the leftovers in a dinner roll with some bbq sauce. Oy my goodness, I make awesome ribs! Lololololzzz. 425 calories for the while slider, which i ate half of, so will update MFP to show 213 calories as Mr. ate the other half already.

How exciting! I start my pre-op tomorrow! I agree about wanting to jump off the table and be right back to what you were doing before. I had a lap chole. when I was 19. I was out grocery shopping the same night and want to be doing that this time too. I had a baby in 2019 and rushed them to discharge me, so I could get my other kid to her volleyball practice. I'm not one for sitting around and being taken care of. All of your other fears are valid. I'm a chronic weigher (multiple times a day). I'm thinking of avoiding my home scale, but I have access to scales everywhere. Even eating tuna at lunch today I wondered how I was ever going to get used to eating without drinking or having to wait 30 minutes. I've have a slow gut like even with my gallbladder gone, it's 3-5 days between BM's. I've done some other diets that were very low in calories but had decent fiber and still needed a laxative weekly to have a BM. I work in the medical field as well, and I 100% have said that I'll go to a competing practice/surgery center before I was treated at my own just because I don't want any of them to see A) my charted weight and B ) my derriere. All in all, I think it would be strange not to be worried about some of the nuances this is going to change. Best of luck with your surgery tomorrow!
  21. Just thought about it, You also may want to save a few for yourself for salad dressing if you plan to eat salads out. I have found that the dressings in restaurants are mostly high calorie so I bring my own with me when I can. One serving or Two tablespoons is one ounce which is about the size of the little paper cups they give you for ketsup some places that have the dispensers out for you to use. I admit I use two ounces but it’s yogurt dressing so it’s still only 100 calories. I just ordered the one ounce cups and didn’t realize how tiny they are until I got them. Goes to show I have been underestimating calories for my salad dressing for a long time.
  22. I'm still tracking everything and I'm not sure I'll ever stop - I'd be afraid to. No defined calorie limit - for a few months I was having to sure I hit at least 800 calories a day but those days are gone. It just keeps me aware of what's going in. I weigh daily too and again I suspect it'll be at least weekly for life.

Getting ready to have this surgery

Yes they gave me a book that I do classes every month surgery will be in September of this year . I measure things put keep track on a calorie counter and make sure I stay with in the calories allowed . It's just hard cause alot of days I don't even get all that's allowed . I make sure I get the 60 to 70 protein . I buy quest food and shakes is Fairlane or walmart brand that are 30 in protein. I drink alot of water and just don't feel like eating . If I try to then I feel like I'm blowed and sick . I'm still going to have the surgery I'm just worried about not getting enough that they say to eat . Most days I eat once a day cause of the water . I'm guessing cause I'm not hungry . Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. More smoked salmon & Gorgonzola, this time sandwiched in a dinner roll with capers and some butter. Prefaced with a coffee martini (not shown) 409 calories for the drink + sandwich…ate/drank it all.
  25. I know many people really like Baritastic, but I have more than 12 years of data on MFP and I am comfortable using it, so I don't want to change... I think I'm going to track calories this week to see if I can lose the 2 lbs I gained on my trip and then see from there.
