I just got back from 2 weeks in Paris, where I felt like the most enormous and dumpy thing on the street for wearing too big loose-fit boot cut jeans nearly every day. So before I even left for home I ordered two styles of skinny Levis from Amazon, which were just delivered. And guess whose fat ass fits into a size 12 skinny jeans? Yup. ME! I'm still bigger than all the size 0 Parisians I saw but at least I'm fashionable.

REMINDER : Dallas/Fort Worth meet up
Tiffykins replied to Tiffykins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It was really great to see everyone. Linda's little one wasn't feeling well that morning so didn't get to hang out for very long. But, Anna, Kermit, Me, Avilda, and TexasT along with one of my friends Shayna enjoyed walking around the mall, talking excess skin, tummy tucks, boob jobs, and the like. Me and Anna are huggers, it's just who we are. We shopped, ate, had good conversation, and I had total "duh" moment and neglected to take pictures. I'll blame it on my enormous hangover from my night before partying out with friends. But, overall, we had a great time, and it was fabulous to put real faces with the posts. -
Lookin at my own boob, I have little lumpy things too around that same area. If your concerned about them see a doctor of course. But it sounds like what I have...They are real close to the surface of the skin? Not painful...just sorta there...Sounds like its just the way you are. I think breast cancer would be more inward that on the surface. I actually saw a dermotologist about a mole I have on my one boob, and he said that some of the other lumps that I was lookin at could possibly turn to moles. He said they aren't cancerous, but if they bother me, I could have them taken off. I dont see them turning to moles just yet...but Im keeping an eye on them. And he said that moles on the breast doesn't connect to breast cancer~~ Absolutely though, have your own doctor check em if they are worrying you~ Hope this helps!

Weight loss stalled after 6 months
loriemoms replied to Armymama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on the weight loss...and yes, stalls are common. I have had three in the last 9 months. I also just have another 10 pounds to go and the doctor said they will be the hardest...just keep doing what you are doing. Throw in more walking, if you can, it helps a lot and make sure you are drinking lots of Water. It will start going again. the good news is you are probably loosing inches now! -
I'm not an expert by any means. I would think you have seen a dermatologist to check your scalp? Some people are destined to have balding. I personally find a few things helpful for my dry thin hair. 1. I take two caps of flaxseed oil daily as well as a multi Vitamin . 2 an hour before I shampoo, I rub olive oil into my scalp 3 shampoo with Chi shampoo 4. An apple cider rinse, about every two weeks. the flaxseed oil helps every inch of skin on my body- I swear by that one. I really noticed hair fallout after any surgical procedure, but it slows down between 4-6 months after for me. I was desperately seeking something to help stop the shedding, this routine along with letting my hair air dry, no color, no pulling into a pony tail, especially when wet - in other words, handling gently, has helped tremendously. Good luck, hope this helps you too

Nowadays, my hair and skin are in great condition for what is normal for me - I've never ever had a problem with oily skin or hair, I tend to be quite dry and I do get a bit scaly at times. But for a while there, my hair was just snapping off, it was incredibly dry and i had to chop it all off much shorter. That all passed though.

Thanks girls... I went and had a lovely hour-long facial and massage today and my skin is feeling much better. Could have been dehydration. I'll make sure I keep up the moisturiser and try to drink more water :-)

The doctor took off about 5 lbs of excess skin. He pulled down the skin from above the belly button but didnt tighten any muscles like a tummy tuck would. I still have the same beautiful effects as if he did tighten the muscles as in a "tummy tuck" . My lap band scar from the port is now down next to my new belly button as before it was right under my rib cage... I had a breakdown of the skin or "rash" that just wouldnt stay away. I do alot of standing and sitting and the band around my pants would rub against my waist until it became sore and raw.. thas how my insurance covered the panni..

Dry skin flaking off the scalp and itchiness is referred to as dandruff. Dandruff is one of the most common scalp problem people are facing today. There are two main types of dandruff - dry dandruff and oily dandruff. Those with an oily skin tend to suffer from oily dandruff while those with dry skin suffer from dry dandruff. One of the popular methods of eliminating dandruff is by using anti-dandruff shampoos. But these shampoos are ineffective after some months. Nevertheless, you can cure dandruff naturally and obtain permanent relief from this condition. More and more people across the world are eagerly opting for the natural and herbal cures. There is now a very strong conviction among the general public that medicines extracted from plants and herbs used in antiquity for treatment are the best medicines, having no toxic or any other harmful effects on the human body. Natural cure, thus, forms the foundation of much modern pharmaceutical research, with more and more modern medicines being prepared from medicinal herbs and shrubs rather than synthetic chemicals. In fact, the negative effects of modern medicines and their toxic effects have led scientists to fall back upon natural products. Thus Cure Dandruff naturally is the best alternative treatment. Very often, people use natural cure for dandruff for just a week or so and as soon as the dandruff has seemed to have cleared, they stop the treatment. However, discontinuing treatment before the condition has cleared completely will cause the problem to resurface. So to ensure permanent relief it is important to continue using these cures until the symptoms are completely impassive.

It happens e they said you are not the first & won't be the last , I had gained a few lbs and my Surgeon was texting and asking me when I was coming back in to see him because it had been a while and I wasn't so sure I should go see him being embarrassed but there was other things & issues involved , but I said heck with it because I could feel & see my self starting to eat a little more than I usually do ,surgeon is so cool , when I went in & discussed it with him , he did the barium swallow & fluro check , we both noticed I was little loose so WE decided on a adjustment(FILL), it was all good after that and he didn't judge me like I did myself , so if they are good Doctors then they will help you.

Healing incisions itch!
shady2121 replied to solson8201's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do not scratch them you can get an infection. Get a clean cotton ball and rub it across your skin right above your insisions. It really relives the itch. -
How come you had to loose 30 lbs? What was your starting weight?

Hello Everyone, I am only 4 days post op, but I can say that my skin looks amazing. Not just on my face, but on my body. The nurse even complimented me on my skin that made me smile even with all the pain. Prior to surgery I didn't have horrible skin, but it wasn't clear like it is now. I truely hope this stays! I'll give up some hair loss for clear skin! Has anyone else had something happen with their body that they were happy with after surgery (besides the weight loss)?

Dr J Lo - Question on Brachioplast
anonemouse replied to EugeniaM's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I think it's where some skin is pulled tighter than the skin around it, if that makes sense. Think of it in terms of cloth. If you cut a big hole out of the center of a square of cloth and try to stretch the cloth and sew it together, you'll wind up with raised areas at the ends of the mended spot. That's because there's more cloth at those areas than there is in the area that had the cloth cut out, so it kind of bunches up where it meets the mended area. From what I understand, that's basically what happens with dog ears. -
I'm going to have a breast lift but probably not implants unless it is the lift by itself wont be enough to fill out the loose skin. But its only down at a BMI of 22 that I can consider this, my boobs were the last things to shrink. I'm finding that last bit of weight loss, even 4lb made WAY more difference than the first 96lb. Everything is getting a bit saggy now. I really am better off not to lose anymore weight whilst its only my boobs I have to fix! So I'd say yes, you need to wait till you're at your goal weight. It might make all the difference - you'll either be decided that you want implants or it may seem like not such a good idea. I've got that kind of chest now - thin, ribs showing and very defined collarbones, where an implant would likely have that very stark contrast of the melons on the chest look, I dont have enough fat and softness on my chest to blend them in, given that I would need the round implants to fill out the loose skin.

Stretch Marks and Post Surgery Scars
coltonwade replied to poohprecious's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Some people have had luck w/ mederma ? You can get it over the counter. I have it but keep forgetting to use it . That's for the scars. For the stretch marks, I am not sure what to do about those , I have TONS . I have heard staying hydrated and to keep your skin moisturized . HTH Mindy -
It's a dreary Monday morning - let's chat

We had tons of trick or treaters here. By the time I got back from trick or treating with the kids, we were out of candy, so the kids picked out stuff they didn't like from their baskets and gave them out. We finally turned the lights around 9. Amazingly, I didn't touch any candy on Halloween and haven't had too much since. The rest of our weekend was the usual shuffling kids to their soccer games, gymnastics, and ice skating. On the down side of things, I have been getting horrible backaches. My PCP thinks it is probably due to my horrible hanging panus. I have tried ice, heat, muscle relaxants, and pain pills but it just doesn't go away. I can't wait until I can have this skin taken off. UGH! -
Dreaming is great, but keep reality in mind. I am 1 year out, I am 3 lbs from my original goal, and considering setting another goal about 30 lbs less, HOWEVER I feel great now, I look good and am happy with where I am in my skin. That is what you need to focus on feeling good in your skin not a size or a pound amount. What I weighed to wear a size 12 when I was 20 is alot less than now at 38 and 3 kids later. Just have fun, celebrate the victories, breathing easier, smaller clothes, self esteem. Best of luck!!

Banded yesterday. When does swelling go down? & other questions
TylerAshton567 replied to RobinLB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well question 1 idk cuz I didn't have one of those wrap things so I'm assuming it doesn't rly matter I just used a pillow when needed. 2nd that's exactly where my port id do the pain ur feeling is where ur skin and muscle is swollen and bruised prolly from your port if that's where urs is at. 3rd yup the bending over and twisting and leaning is going to hurt for a couple of weeks. Your body is getting adjusted to something foreign being in there. Right now ur body is not to happy to have it in there but I'm a week post op and most the pain is gone I'm still having to use my pain meds to sleep cuz I still can't lay on my stomache so my sides hurt from laying on them. The only thing I can rly suggest is take lots of gas x strips and walk a lot it may stink to walk but its worth it. I was able to get most the gas out within 48 hrs. Now with just a week post op I'm walking around all day just fine with hardly any pain. Now I can tell u this all most everyone ends up having a hard time with ur bowle movements so u may want to look into stool softners because now once u get constipated its extremely uncomfortable. Good luck and just remember soon u will be skinny yay! -
Im so thirsty
Morethanaprettyface22 replied to Newhealthylife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
These ideas are not really hot but might help room temp. I Had sleeve sep 8. Had 2 week setback bc abandoned Persian snuck in & hid. Was so ill my eyes swelled shut. Saw surgeon Tues. He said it’s important to get lots of plain H2O each day. If you like idea In pics U Can get disposable shot glasses at liquor store/amazon. Its motivating knowing I can do in 2 sips. I add Lots of H2O to crystal light, SF hot cocoa watered down w/skim milk, SF jello. it’s runny but not near as sweet, low salt broth helps. But my saving grace is popsicles. U could put in blender with ice. I take H2O when I go out. Hope this is Helpful. He said Water also helps loose skin. Great motivation! Glad u have no pain. Sorry for typos & no caps Am Exhausted dealing with flood damage from TS Beta. -
I am hoping to be ready to start maintianing my weight by fall and would like to hear if any of you have a maintenance plan and if so what it is. I discussed this with my Dr. at my last appointment and we decided that we would start removing small amounts of fill until I was maintaining. This is what I wanted to do but I am having second thoughts. I don't think this will happen for a few more months. Even though I am close historically it has taken me a while to loose the last 20-25 pounds so it is not like it is going to happen tomorrow. I am just trying to think ahead because I have gone to my goal weight twice before in the last 12 years and managed to gain it back. The first time I maintained well for one year and then gained about 12 lbs. per year for the next three and then gained 25 lbs. the fifth year. Lost 61 pounds, but managed to gain back that 61 + another 25 before I stated looking into the lapband. The second time I started gaining it back as soon as I stopped "dieting." I am determined not to do this again so maintenance is on my mind these days. The thing is I don't diet at all with the band. I eat whatever I want; I do Protein first so I get full and don't ever want much else. I don't count calories and I don't use fat-free or low-fat, etc. Two things that were likely big issues to my weight gain in the past were 1) alcohol and 2) Dr. Pepper. I haven't had a Dr. Pepper or any soda for that matter since I was banded on 8-11-2005. The alcohol is another story, right now all I can say is that it is much better.

I think you're right I think it actually pokes into the skin to secure it during surgery.

Was banded October 23, 2007 at the outpatient surgery center off Bee Caves. That was three weeks ago. I weighed 254 lbs. I notice that my personal scale is calibrated at 10 pounds less than at True Results. At my first post op appt., I gained about half a pound, it was very discouraging. I got my first fill November 7th. It restricted me for a couple of days but now I'm hungry a lot AGAIN. My scale shows that I now weigh 236 lbs. So if I add the 10 pounds that means I lost 8 lbs since last week. Cool. I still get frustrated because of gas pains and discomfort in the port area. I understand that all this is normal. My shoes fit me loose. I wish I felt better with my knee. It hurts very badly when I walk. I see the knee surgeon on the 28th, my birthday. Yipee. I have physical therapy tomorrow. I also have a second fill scheduled tomorrow. Hope I'm not over doing it. When I went for my first post op appt., I felt very light headed after the NP gave me the first fill. She said I was over exerting, and I was dehydrated and needed additional protien. Go figure. Get some rest and drink plenty of fluids. Imagine that! I can't believe that Thanksgiving is next week already. It'll be fun to visit with my family. Looking forward to it.:tired

I remember how nervous and excited I was about the Psych Eval, so I want to share my experience. First off, everywhere I called to make an appointment for my Psych Eval there was a 3 month wait. I had called probably 15 places, on my 16th try, when I asked if they have anyone that does WLS determinations, she said yes, but we are booked out 3 months, then, she says, hold on a second. I hear someone else on a different phone, talking about a cancellation. Sure enough, the lady comes back on the phone and asks how soon I can get there? Are you kidding me? I am about an hour+ away, . . . I can be there in 45 minutes! I made it. I was very excited, I have worked in the Mental Health field for about 5 years, and I was super excited about having a one on one evaluation from a Psychiatrist. So I fill out my paperwork, they call me back. He begins asking me questions. Do you have a support system? How much weight do you want to loose? What do you want to look like? Who is your support system? Who are you telling about surgery? Support system Support system Support System. So, then I figure I will get to take a Millon, or some type of personality test. Nope. That was it. It took maybe 35 minutes, he said he would have his recommendation faxed by the end of the day. I was a little disappointed. I was kind of wanting to have the whole lay on the couch and tell me about your life experience, but whatever. He approved me and I am off to Insurance. Oh, come to find out, my insurance company doesn't even require a psych eval. oh well. :-)
