I worry so much about this happening to me too because I eat and I can eat again 30 minutes later. Good news is it was just once so far and you know that you don’t want to continue doing it. Do you have any idea what brought it on? Was it an emotional reaction or just purely boredom?? Maybe you should bring a bunch of healthy snacks so you at least have the better option available. I eat when I am board too and I honestly haven’t found an answer except for lower calorie snacks which isn’t perfect i know.

Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )
lizonaplane replied to New_me_2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls are very common. The closer to a "normal" weight you get, the more slowly your weight loss will go and the more likely you are to have stalls. You can talk to your nutritionist to make sure you're eating the right number of calories and the right types of food for your body and activity level. You may need to eat more or less or exercise more. -
Eating carbs (pasta, rice, or bread )
sillykitty replied to New_me_2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think we all have to know our weaknesses. Carbs aren’t a slippery slope for me, but feeling deprived is. I’m over 4 years out and currently eat whatever I want, just in smaller portions than per op. From the beginning I included carbs, but a smaller % than now, in order to focus in protein and limit calories. -
To count or not to count (calories)
BigSue replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been tracking everything I eat in MyFitnessPal for over two years -- since about 5 months before my surgery. For me, this was key in changing my eating habits, both before and after surgery. I don't think it's counting calories, per se, that works, but the fact that it forces me to confront my food choices and get the most bang for the buck, calorie-wise. Constantly budgeting my calories has helped me to shift my food choices to low-calorie but satisfying foods. That's especially important now that I'm almost two years post-op and I can eat pretty decent portions (compared to the first several months post-op when I could only eat tiny quantities). If I weren't choosing low-calorie foods, I think I could easily get enough calories to start gaining the weight back. A lot of people swear by "intuitive eating," and if that works for you, great, but I don't see it working for me. I think my intuition had to be pretty out of whack to get me to 341 pounds. I think it's possible that I've changed my eating habits enough at this point that I could stop tracking and be ok, but I don't want to put that to the test. I eat mostly the same things over and over, so if I stick to that, even without tracking, I would probably stay within the same calorie range. I do have a hard time when traveling or eating at restaurants because it's difficult to guesstimate when someone else is preparing the food, but I very rarely eat at restaurants, so I try not to stress too much over the occasional meal that's not 100% accurate. I've also relaxed a little on weighing and measuring some things because I've gotten a good sense of portion sizes (e.g., half a small avocado is about 50 grams on average; 6 slices of thin-sliced turkey lunchmeat is about 75 grams), and some things are low enough in calories that it's not worth the trouble (e.g., I don't measure salad greens or cucumbers or tomatoes). I like Dr. Weiner's approach of "a pound of cure" (which involves eating at least a pound of vegetables every day) because focusing on eating a lot of vegetables helps me to fill up on foods that are nutritious but low in calories. Every week, I meal prep daily veggie trays (carrots, celery, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, and peppers), and that's my main snack for the day. I also add cauliflower rice to a lot of meals to make them more filling without adding a lot of calories. -

Enjoying a week off work so let the home meals commence! Today’s included feeding beans (a true feat!) to usually reluctant humans. Mine- crispy street style corn tortillas, homemade refried beans, homemade pico, shredded cheese and sour cream I didn’t even need. Theirs were on fajita size flour tortillas as they still balk at corn ones. I was too lazy to calorie calculate homemade refried beans so used what seemed close. Also, all dinner items were $13.44US but there’s tons of leftovers for lunches this week and I’ll end up freezing half the beans for later. -

Honestly - having studied it scientifically as best I can, I think that stalls just happen randomly and then just end - also randomly. They're part of all significant weight loss journeys. Upping or downing: calories; protein; water; exercise (including type or intensity of exercise) might coincide with a renewed loss but it's not likely to be the cause. Keep doing what you're doing and you will keep losing weight until you're done. Yes, more slowly and then MUCH more slowly, as you approach goal. I've had the same calorie intake for the last 4 months, and more or less the same level of exercise. I'm losing approx 2lbs per week but not at all in a linear fashion. Average it all out, keep on keeping on, and you'll be fine. You'll lose until you stop losing. You have done amazingly well @DaisyAndSunshine -

I am also in my 7th month mark and finished 6 months end of May. After scale moving for a month, it's back to stalling yet again 😩😆 Looks like my stalls will come on more frequently as I get closer to the goal. So nothing to worry as long as it keeps moving down. Still want to lose another 40. If not that, at least 30 more to feel comfortable in my shoes. I think I may need to increase my calories possibly since I am still hovering around 900ish. I am thinking to go 800ish again. Either that or it's gotta go above 1000 to 1100ish. But it's difficult to get that much food in. Sigh. It seems like I would have to eat all the time which I dislike. But I think I'll have to do it if lessening the calories doesn't work. I think stalls happen when body gets too comfortable with certain calories so I think upping is the key but I get petrified of increasing calories and stopping the weight loss. Anyhow, Let's see how far along I go. -
Weight goes up and down 2 weeks post op
Crisscat replied to mysticcrow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am beyond frustrated lol. I have not lost any weight since my initial 14 lbs I lost in 9 days after surgery, I am now 5.5 weeks post op and still nothing. I go back and forth between 2 lbs. Im up 2 lbs then down 2 lbs. I quit weighing because I was getting so mad about it. Its very discouraging. I usually only eat 3-4 teaspoons in one sitting and then I feel full. I only get between 500-700 calories per day and nothing not a thing. Im due for my next weigh in on June 20th. Rather than being excited about it I am in full dread mode. I am utterly dreading it. I have had 2 other weigh ins and nothing same weight every time. **disclosure** I am not able to exercise like most on here do because I have a right knee problem and I am pending a knee replacement so I cannot go on long walks. I can barely make walking around in Walmart after 30 mins -

I did feel tired for a couple weeks post surgery but I think it had more to do with the surgery recovery itself. After that I was still on pretty low calories but I was fine. -
What do YOU order at Starbucks?

I should add that the Mango Dragon Refresher does have sugar and calories galore. It’s more of a treat. Not a daily for me. I usually grab a grande on the weekends when me and mom go shopping. 🥰 -

Oh for sure. People (in general not just WLS) would be so surprised in general the package cost isn’t the same as what you’re eating cost. So let’s make a hypothetical dinner for 5 people of steak, quinoa and mixed veggies with prices near me- Organic quinoa- $3.27 for 16oz bag with 10 servings Top sirloin $8.99/lb Butter (for steak)- $3.58/lb or 32Tbsp Frozen mixed veggies $1 for 1lb bag Total cost would be- $16.84 You aren’t using all the butter or quinoa so food cost for the meal meal will be different. Cooking 4 servings of quinoa, the 1lb of steak with 2Tbsp butter, and the bag of veggies makes dinner around $11.53 or roughly $2.31 per person. It also comes down to 395 calories with 29g protein, 17g fat, and 28g carbohydrates of which 6 are fiber. -
Feeling very defeated...not sure it was worth it now...

Be mindful about what you eat. Definitely consult your Dr and if your nutritionist isn't helping you maybe consider looking for a second opinion. Weigh your food like you said you are and only eat that and have Water most of the day. I know this feels stressful but the stress will cause you to fall back into old habits especially if you're an emotional eater. Take a deep breath and make sure you are keeping a food journal and stay under your calorie intake. You got this! Sent from my Pixel 4a using BariatricPal mobile app -

Maybe the burger patty, but not a burger patty on a bun and all that goes along with it. I guess is it a home made burger 🍔 or from Macca's or hungry jacks and the like because 1 burger from a fast food joint would be your calories for the whole day -

why on earth are you eating burgers this early after surgery?????, you are not following the plan. you are meant to eat slowly, don't eat burgers or fries or anything like that. What are you drinking ? I suspect that could be a source of uncounted calories too. As I said before just because you can doesn't mean you should . for this to work you have to stick to the plan once you are 6 months out and lost most of your weight then you can play around with it a bit but while you are drinking and eat what you want and as much as you want its not going to work. -

A weird quinoa bowl- quinoa, salad greens, kimchi, blueberries, cucumbers, and a whole wheat bolillo. Ended up eating less than half the bolillo of which a child claimed the rest of that and the bowl. Not sure of calories but the cost was $1.65US -
7 weeks out, perfecting portions

I for one still don't get the concept of stretching of the pouch. You can eat as much as you can and sometimes may be little more. But you can't eat beyond a certain limit. Let's say even if the pouch does get stretched, you're still not going beyond a certain calories threshold (unless your program is designed differently). Plus small pouch is temporary stuff. It will get stretched a little as your stomach heals. And it's a life long journey where we will have to learn how to control out instincts and majorly stay under certain limit, stretched pouch or otherwise. That's just how my logic functions everytime I hear about pouch and stretch. I could be totally wrong but that is what I go by. End of the day I will have to control my mind for a successful life long WLS journey. -
Anyone Tried to Do the Pre-Op Liquid Diet Before Its Time?
acopas replied to I Am Enough!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had two protein shakes a day typically breakfast and mid afternoon. I would eat a pouch of tuna (2.6oz) at lunch or have a bone broth with quest protein chips. At dinner, I ate around 2oz of protein and 2-3 oz of vegetables. I stayed in my surgeons guideline for 600-800 calories and less than 30 net carbs. -

Oh nice to see these updates! Now 6.75 months post-op, 13st 0lbs and dying to see 12 something on the scale for the first time in many years. Still on 1000-1200 calories a day and still walking for exercise. I focus more on speed than distance (exercise more than activity). Still losing pretty much 2lbs every week, allowing for the odd stall. Life at 182lbs is GOOD. -
6.75 months post op and I eat 1000ish calories on weekdays and 1200ish at weekends (alcohol). I still track every bite that goes into my mouth I know lots of people don't or don't have to. I have lost approximately 2lbs per week since my surgery, give or take.

It’s likely you need some more calories. Based on the more popular shakes you are getting 450-480 calories from those three shakes. I’d add one more to the routine. Four would let you drink every four hours for those 12 hours opposed to 5-6. Id also get something like propel that has some electrolytes to supplement. When I’ve done other low calorie/fat diets I’d have pickle juice shots to combat headaches.

I'm just about 9 months and this month is the first month I haven't lost any weight. It's very frustrating, isn't it? I have about 15 lbs to my "goal" but I'm not at all happy with my body. I try to focus on things like how small my clothes are compared to what they used to be, because when I look at myself nekkid I don't see much progress. I'm hoping that focusing on the "basics" of tracking calories, avoiding sweets, focusing on whole foods rather than processed junk, and listening to my fullness cues will help me start losing again, but I know I may have lost all the weight I can.

To be fair ... also consider the fact of being a woman, for those that are. Our bodies are completely different from men biologically. Due to things our bodies do that men don't, our weight can readily fluctuate from day to day. Water weight, menstruation, stressors - just to name a few - can affect our weight loss/gain even with something as restricting as bariatric surgery. The weight comes off differently from women compared to men as well. Men don't plateau as often or as long typically either. Being a woman comes with a whole different scope of resistance that we have to battle through to get the same results. Just stick with it and, as stated, if weighing less often is better for you personally to see a bigger picture of loss then do that. It doesn't hurt anything. Edit: Another thing that could help is to fluctuate your caloric intake. If you steadily take in 500 calories, your body will adjust to living on that 500 calories. Meaning suddenly. you aren't burning more than you're taking in. This is why most calorie restricting diets do not work long-term. Edit2: Along with changing up caloric intake, adjusting how much you're burning as well can help. You just have to not let your body get set into a routine and get comfortable. -

I’m a week out from surgery and just wanted to share my progress. I’ve lost 9 lbs since my surgery date, which makes sense since I’m eating less than 400 calories a day! It’s definitely easier on this side than it was on the pre-op side, since my body literally cannot eat the things it used to. It’s been an adjustment getting used to the physical limitations and sensations that come along with something as simple as taking a single pill, but seeing quick weight loss is very rewarding. I’m still on full liquids, but I switch to soft foods on Sunday, and I cannot wait to have an egg! -
Welcome back. Gerd can develop after sleeve surgery not bypass. Bypass is usually the solution to gerd. Dumping isn’t very common & it can be controlled by dietary choices. Avoid high sugar & high fat & you’ll be fine. I have a sleeve & have the odd case of foamies though sometimes just the first stages when I accidentally eat something too dry or coarse or eat too quickly. When I do it doesn’t last long certainly not an hour. I think it is a more common side effect of the band. It will be a no to NSAIDS with sleeve or bypass. They’re too harsh in your much smaller tummy. Post surgery you will likely be prescribed an opiate like tramadol. You may not need them or only need them for less than a week. You will need to discuss with your surgeon & other doctors alternatives to NSAIDs if you took celebrex for joint, back or other long term regular pain management. As to juice, it may be an individual thing as to whether you can tolerate the acid content of certain juices. Juices are often on the list of things to avoid because of their high calorie content. Remember a single glass of juice contains a number of serves of fruit - more than you would eat as whole fruit. Better to eat the whole fruit & get a broader range of nutrients & fewer calories than from juice alone. Plus the whole fruit is more filling. All the best.
