  1. I feel for you, I had similar issues. Once the lapband fails, that's it! Believe me, BTDT. I had my band removed and revised to gastric bypass. Big difference and I would do again in a heartbeat. My practice won't even do bands anymore as they have proven to fail more often than not long term. I feared bypass more than I can say, but for me it has been the true key....no more being a slave to hunger! One thing I can say is that weight loss may be slower after having another weight loss surgery. Still, I am 63 years old and unless I'm losing, I'm gaining so this is good! Have no fear, just do it.
  2. Yep, I had 2 extremely painful episodes of kidney stones after my lapband from not drinking enough. I had a revision on 4/23 and I'm really struggling with fluid, definitely worried I could end up with them again! It's the worst pain ever !!
  3. I'm a band to bypass revision myself. Banded in 2011... revised this past March. BEST.CHOICE.EVER. The information on the operation is skewed by old data from older "versions" of the surgery. As medical technology has advanced... this procedure has become exponentially more safe.

    Decisions, Decisions.

Well apparently, biological kids aren't really an option for me, apparently - which is fine. In fact, I'd hope they'd just take out all the stuff that's not working correctly for me haha. (the malfunction of my girly stuff isn't due to weight) Its come down to an insurance coverage question, really. I want the sleeve but will settle for the band if I _have_ to - and then pay for the sleeve revision later if need be. I don't have the funds to do it now but hopefully in the future.

    Young RNY Patients

I just had rny last week and I just turned 27, so happy with my decision. My doc really recommended sleeve and said if years later I hadn’t lost enough I could revision to bypass. Im hoping for one and done! So I went with bypass due to heart burn issues. Hw-378 Sw- 363 (2/27/18)
  6. I figured since so many people have revisions from sleeve to RNY, I’d just have RNY to begin with. Higher weight loss and keep more weight off longer, per data.
  7. Hi, I’m having a revision from the band to bypass. Right now my band is unfilled but there’s still some restriction. When I eat with the band the small pouch causes me to stop eating after a few bites but then I’m able to start up again after 15 minutes. I’m concerned that this will happen with the RNY and then I’ll be grazing all day. Is the gastric bypass more effective than the band on terms of how fullness feels?

Too Much Scar Tissue For Vsg?!

Sorry for the late response, I lost track of this thread. Most of my surgeons revisions have been band -> RNY. I believe he has done about 1,300. Band -> sleeve was about 275. I'm not military so I didn't go through an MTF (just to clarify). If there's an upside to lots of scar tissue (I had gobs of it)... it's the restriction. Scar tissue can play a role in how much "flex" (calling it stretch isn't really accurate) you have. The more virgin tissue, the more natural flex. The more adhesions/scarring, the less... just like how our skin can stretch, but our stretchmarks are scars and we aren't getting any more stretch out of that spot. I'm about 3 mos out and often still get full on tablespoon portions. ^ I actually had a good conversation with my surgeon about that yesterday. We're told not to graze, but if it weren't for grazing I'd max out at about 300 calories. I was talking to him about the verbiage he uses... if you tell people not to graze they're going to think in terms of meals. I have three meals, but 2 - 3 "snacks" -- but since each meal/snack takes at least 30 - 45 mins to eat (except for Protein bars, they go down like nothing)... that's about 5 - 6 hours of the day I spend eating, and in my book that sounds a lot like grazing.

Too Much Scar Tissue For Vsg?!

Wheetsin....how many revisions has your surgeon done? I'm about 9 months out from band removal so my stomach should be healed well by now. I'm going to keep plugging away and get another opinion and also work on getting into the program at Fort Gordon...they have the fist info session in June. Thanks for your input!
  11. Dec 30, 2013 was the day i thought my weightloss journey would change my life for the better. As soon as i awoke, my life was changed, i was in excruciating pain in my chest that they thought i was having a heart attack. I ended up staying for 1 week n a day. It would've been longer but i was scared of getting a feeding tube do i forced myself to drink. To make a long long story short, I'd end up having an egd monthly, upper gi 3 times, sent to specialists to figure out what happened to me. I've been on so many meds, throwing up most nights anything that I'd eaten that day to present, acid reflux an understatement ! Ph tests, swallow test, had 3 different surgeons see me. Finally, lots of continuous praying, i was sent to the surgeon that was suppose to do the surgery initially. After 3 months of her investigating, she decided that i need a revision. So here i am, starting all over again with the stages, minus 85% of my stomach. To this day, i can still only drink about 32 ounces of liquiq per day, forcing that. It hurts to drink, eat, swallow my own saliva, i hate to think of eating or drinking. I lost 83 lbs, put back 10 bc i started eating rice, although it hurt, it was less painful and simple to cook wo wasting it bc i can't eat it! I gave up on exercising and even caring. I told my doc that as well. She's very kind and hard knocks at the same time. There will be 2 surgeons, i am scared, she said id need a drain, i might be cut instead of scoped bc of possible scar tissue from vsg, and a higher chance of leaking. Wow, seems like i can't catch a break. Please pray if you don't mind. I just moved up and fixed thanksgiving so that i could try and eat with my family. Dec 4th, im discouraged but trying to be hopeful. God willing, this will make things the way they should have been b4, if not better! God bless you all and gl. Thank you for reading my story. I hope to have good news postop!

    Weight gain

So many studies on stretching your stomach. It seems to be a rare occurrence. Some may need a revision. So think about it this way. Long term success is behavior change - Slow down when you eat. Stop eating when you feel your new sensation of full. Don't eat to the point you vomit. Drink 30 mins after you eat.

    August 5

Having a band to sleeve revision. After 9 months of waiting to meet I durance requirements for revision I'm finally just 4 short weeks from surgery. I'm enjoying my last 2 weeks of solids before getting back on the pre-op mostly liquid diet. It's going to be nice to have the month of August off to recover. Who is with me?

  16. I was hoping to find more of you out and about in this site! My surgery is Monday (RNY revision from a 16 year old VBG gone awry). I was diagnosed fibro about 5 years ago and was wondering if the surgery was going to throw me into a flare. I had to give up my methotrexate 2 weeks ago and for the next 3 months and I already notice a difference! Any real fibro difference with weight loss? Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

    Lapband Vs Sleeve

I think before we are really able to offer any reasonable input on this, we need more information from you. Are you having problems with the band, difficulty reaching your sweet spot, issues with not being able to eat anything or keep food down, or is it simply, as others have said, you are not following proper protocol for a bandster? If it is a case of you are not losing because you are not following a sensible diet, then no, the sleeve is not the answer to your problems. However, if you are having actual band related issues, then yes, it might be worth looking into revision surgery.

    September surgery

[quote name='Notinks' timestamp= So sorry to hear that. It was one of my biggest fears as well. I had mine removed and revise this afternoon. I had my band in for almost 11 years. I'm having a lot of pain but my surgeon said it all went well Hang in there. Hi Lisa, so glad your surgery went well. Good luck for your recory. Just think, when I go for my surgery in December you will have lost heaps already

It will all be ok. Be glad you have a good & careful surgeon! I may be in the same boat on Wednesday. That's always the risk with revision! My prayers are with you for a quick removal recovery. Time to focus on your basics! You can DO this! ???? 3 mos will go fast!!

    Bump In The Road.

I am going to be a self pay too, shouldn't that be no cost its a fault with the tube not yours. I was told if there were any revisions or leaks etc it was covered no extra costs. I am in Canada however so I wonder if that is a difference?? Fingers crossed for you

    Before the surgery

I had severe acid reflux prior to surgery, so I had gastric bypass because sleeve will only make the condition worse. Many on this site had sleeve only to have it revised to gastric bypass because of problems with GERD after they were sleeved.
