  1. THE WEIRDEST STUFF HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO ME AFTER I GOT MY BYPASS OCTOBER 2021 So when I was fresh out of surgery I had a really hard time when I started being able to eat solids, everything I ate made me sick, or I’d feel like something was stuck and just generally uncomfortable and so I had stopped eating because it became unbearable to be sick after every meal, it led to me being hospitalized a week or two for dehydration the doctor told me my body was eating itself (muscle/fat) anything it could to keep me alive and my blood sugar would stay critically low despite them putting sugar in my IV this happened twice (I was admitted on two separate occasions) they did all the tests but nothing was abnormal and they couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t eat, but my surgeon was getting worried/upset and he said if I was admitted again I’d be put on a feeding tube he said and I quote “eat anything I don’t care what it is, just eat” he also said it would probably be uncomfortable for awhile but still force yourself. So after that I went home and would just eat whatever I could whether that be bad food or good food and it did hurt a lot and I’d get so sick I’d get hot and feel like I’d faint and so to combat it I’d just lay down in front of a fan and bear the pain which lasted about 30mins after EVERY meal I’d also go into a mini food coma after every meal and it was a big inconvenience because no matter where I was after I ate I’d have to lay down and I’d be drawn into a food coma for who knows how long. Time skip to now, I’m doing better I don’t have a problem eating but when I eat too much I do have to lay down but the thing is… I can eat way more then I should like maybe two cups full of whatever food, although when it comes to certain meats I can only eat a little and I’ll feel pretty sick afterwards, but shrimp for example I can eat a lot of. I don’t have any problems eating sweets ( which I’m beyond great full for I feel more normal now even though I can eat only a little I feel like I got a bit of my life back I had felt so depressed because food was my outlet and not being able to enjoy food any type of food had really became hard for me) and I actually eat them on a daily basis although I can only have a small amount (or it depends what sweets it is) without getting sick, I seem to be able to eat alot of popcorn. I only experienced dumping syndrome once in my life after I had some tea with honey a few days out of surgery, but after that I never had it again. I gained this really weird symptom where every time I stand up from a sitting position I faint or feel very dizzy where everything goes black and I fall down without losing consciousness, it only last a few seconds and then I’m fine but I’ve hurt myself a few times because of it. I also feel hunger, I’ve felt hunger even right out of surgery but now I’m always hungry 2 hours after eating but I don’t get stomach rumbles I get this heartburn feeling that’s persistent until I eat it’s my way of knowing when to eat. I have a big problem with standing still in one spot for even 10 minutes It makes me feel sick like I’ll throw up or something I get hot and dizzy but I’m just fine walking for hours just the moment I stand still I get nauseous. I find it harder to drink water without a straw, and I find it easier to eat laying down than sitting up and I think that’s really weird, but despite eating anything I want I still lose weight and I don’t really feel the need to anymore I’m at a good area. One last thing that’s pretty recent…. I sleep eat. I don’t know when it happened maybe a month or two ago but every night now I’ll wake 3 or 4 times and munch a little on whatever is nearby, I’ve eaten 3 full boxes of cheese-its over the course of 5 days (which didn’t sit well with me in the long run) I’ve eaten cookies, I’ve eaten cheese, I’ve eaten candy, I’ve even eaten a whole sandwich and sometimes I have no recollection of it but I’ll see the wrapper or evidence near me on the floor. I don’t know how to stop this habit it’s really getting out of hand so now I just place healthy options near me before bed so I won’t gain weight because I did gain a few pounds recently. Well, these are just my experiences and this all started after my surgery although I don’t know for sure if it’s surgery related. Please feel free to comment below if you’ve experienced anything similar I’d love to hear it! I’m managing just fine I’ve found a system to deal with my inconveniences (since it’s just more annoying and I feel I can deal with it) but if I can find a way to rid myself of it then I’d feel more normal!! P.s. does anyone know how to tighten minor loose skin?? My skin isn’t very loose but in some areas like my lower stomach and thighs it’s not as tight, I lost the majority of my weight when I was the hospital which is less than ideal but even still the skin is only slightly loose. I’ve heard working out can help (and I have little to no muscle right now I lost it during the hospital phase) so I’m working on that but if anyone has any other type of remedies I’d LOVE to try it! Thanks again <3

    Blood pressure

Had gastric Bypass and had B/P drop after about One week. Went to have drain removed and my B/p was in 80s like 84/56 and I told Doctor I was dizzy and they dropped me off one med. when I got home I went head first into lazy boy chair. Did not hurt anything by the next week my pressure was down again in 80s and I was having tough time standing so I stopped my last B/P meds and a week later I was much better.so yes It happens. Slowed me down on my walking because I was so dizzy. But now I can go out walking and feel much better.
  3. Okay thanks! I want the bypass but I need to save up for it
  4. I haven't had a revision to ESG but did have an original ESG (I now have a VSG). My personal opinon: I would think a bypass would have better longevity and outcome. https://bmiclinic.com.au/endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-faq/ ESG following gastric sleeve: Endoscopic revision of a gastric sleeve is possible, however the weight loss that results is only approximately 10% of the baseline weight. There are likely more effective options which you can talk through with your Bariatric Specialist.
  5. I’m torn between getting the ESG over the bypass. How did you decide which one to do?
  6. Newbie here Gastric Bypass surgery scheduled for Wednesday 9/21. I’m on day 2 of the clear liquid diet and todays been harder then yesterday. I woke up with a migraine and it won’t go away! I can only have plain water, apple juice, protein2O, jello, popsicles and low sodium chicken broth to drink/eat and the chicken broth doesn’t wanna stay down. I also only told certain family members and someone got lose lips decided it was her job to tell everyone and there mother so I have a lot of negative opinions being voiced to me. Someone even contacted my fiancé with a long list of complications and all the stuff that can go wrong and how there uncles wife’s sisters daughters cousin died from the surgery and now he’s even more scared something is going to happen to me! I guess it’s just the pre-surgery craziness 🤦‍♀️
  7. Hello all I thought I’d put my first post up to encourage others as I’m definitely a snail not a hare with weight loss, but getting there all the same. I had lapband surely nearly 15 years ago. Lost nothing. Didn’t work for me at all. Felt like a failure. Saved up again and decided to have the lapband removed and a bypass. Wasn’t that hopeful due to my previous experience but was desperate. Weighed 310 pounds and BMI 45. Surgery was fine with no complications. However I only lost a couple of pounds each week for the first few weeks. On about 500-600 calories a day. As food increases to about 800 calories at week 6, the slow but steady weight loss continued of 1 to 2 pounds a week. About six month stage I was light enough to join a gym. This made a huge difference to my mental health and energy. I took it slow but went three times a week. I was now on about 1000 calories a day and losing (you guessed it) 1 to 2 pounds a week. Sometimes I would lose 4 pounds a week but then nothing the week after. I didn’t really stall at all. I saw other people posting phenomenal weekly weight loss numbers. Not me! So here I am a year out and I’m eating about 1200 calories a day and losing 1 to 2 pounds a week. Lost over 100 pounds so far and feel fine plodding on as I am. So my advice is, keep tracking food, when you can try exercising, and don’t worry if your weight loss is steady like mine. You get there just the same. And, I’ve never felt better!
  8. I think my dr.fix my hernia than did the adjustable gastric Band,I thought I was going to bypass I didn't ask for band but I will find out Thurs. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Sept 8th I had my Gastric Bypass done … 10 days post opt and working towards getting better every day . I have my first apt with the surgeon tomorrow so I’m hoping to get some answers to questions I have . Like vitamins and trying to get my protein and fluids in .
  10. 10 day post opt and have to say lots of questions still although I know it's Normal. Def having issues with being able to get all my fluids in because I feel so full and then my stomach hurts .. I know that when I tried the primer protein shakes I got sick immediately and I believe it was the milk .. which I never had a problem with before .. but now slowly introducing like almond milk and taking it slow .. but I'll admit I'm scared of food .

Finally i can buy clothes again

Great job! Yeah I love wearing stuff that used to not fit and now it fits or is even big on me. I've gone through all my clothes that I had when I was smaller and even stuff I wore after my first surgery (I was sleeved in 2016, lost a lot and then gained back and had revision in 2021), now I need even smaller stuff. Originally I was a 2XL shirt and those were starting to get tight, now I'm a Medium (!!) and down about 10 pants sizes as well. I've been getting my stuff at the thrift store because I don't know if I'll outgrow them (undergrow?) and they'll end up being too big. Once I reach my final weight and size I'll do a shopping spree.
  12. I saw him for my physical last week and he said when I get the o.k. from the neurosurgeon and now a hemotologist because I don't have a spleen and it causes my white count to be high that he will write my letter. The hemotologist said he didn't need to see me for that he will just send my surgeon for clearance. My neurosurgeon appt is on 9/29 so I hope I can get my surgery next month. My PCP tried to talk me out of it when I was there .I know what you mean about big breasts I passed a DD a long time ago. I may have to roll them up after surgery. loll I am glad your revision went well and you are on the road to recovery.

    September surgery buddies!!

Tomorrow is finally the day! I haven't even packed my bag yet but I don't plan on taking much anyway. My biggest fear is that they won't let my husband stay with me overnight. We live over an hour away from the hospital so it would not be fun for him to be driving up only for visiting hours. Plus we both want to be together so it would cause a lot of anxiety if they won't let him stay. I am scheduled for my bypass at 9am so at least I don't have to get up too early. Not looking forward to the gas pain after surgery but so ready to finally have this surgery done. I started this process in Dec, so it's a long time coming. Also tired of the liquid diet so one step closer to real food is great. I'm even looking forward to pureed food at this point. Before I was sooo grossed out by the thought of it. I'm not even hungry on the liquid diet anymore but I'm bored with the same flavors and my intestines have not been happy on a high protein no fiber diet. Just ready to start my new life and eventually get back to a new normal. Can't wait to see what life looks and feels like in 3 months, so exciting! I think a lot of us have surgery tomorrow so good luck to us all and speedy recovery.
  14. I need revision too. While reviewing the research it appears the average weight loss after revision is around "30 to 60" pounds in a recent study. However, I think there is hope. Beyond the numbers really is our food choices. You get to decide how much weight you will lose. For me, it's choices or excuses. Sent from my SM-G996U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. I got my gastric bypass on September 7th 2022, and I’m not really losing weight yet… Is this normal? You would think the weight would be coming off being that I’m only on a full liquid diet, and following it exactly how they advise. Also has anyone else had an issue with elevated pulse? I had tachycardia before my gastric bypass, but was still cleared for surgery, however at the office last week my pulse was 167 which is way higher than it typically is. Also on lovenox injections. Super dizzy whenever I get up to walk around, has anyone else had this issue? I do have an appointment with my cardiologist on the 26th.
  16. Ok ladies and gents. I am 1 month and 6 days post op from my bypass surgery and my biggest obstacle is getting my protein in. I buy the packs with the cubed meats, cashews and cheese (I am sick of cheese LOL) I am really at this point considering going back to be a pescatarian because those are the items that feel better going down. Non of that scratching, painful feeling I get with chicken or sausage. Now to the point, I am very allergic to artificial sweetners, sugar alcohol and Stevia so is there a simple protein powder shake I can take that does not have any of that (oh and plant based *no whey*)? Genepro unflavored protein powder in the silver bag was perfect, but GNC stopped selling it and I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any suggestions????
  17. Admittedly, I haven’t read through the whole post but got angry and hit reply.  I also had a fusion. A 4 level cervical fusion plus cervical dystonia that has now advanced to the front of my neck and chin. Both my PCP and movement disorder neurologists were more than happily to sign off. They both said weight loss (specifically breasts not being so heavy & drawing my shoulders downward) could possibly help within symptom control. These puppies weigh me woman down! LOL ugh.  I just had my revision sleeve to bypass literally just 5 DAYS ago and it couldn’t have went better. They do use the surgical robot though for these procedures. That’s the coolest thing ever.  Also, to me, it sounds like your current PCP is a little lazy on top of it all. Is he an older doc? Like old school I mean?  Seems Ike he’s asking you to do HIS homework work just so he can copy and paste what parts he would like to send to the insurance company. Tell him you will if he pays YOU for that letter.
  18. If near Utah, there is a surgeon who has been listed as one of like 6 in the US who is certified for these revisions.

    Gas and “smells”

not that common with sleeve or bypass. Much more common with the DS. for sleevers and bypassers, constipation can be a chronic issue, though. A lot of us take Miralax, stool softeners, or magnesium tablets every day to stay on top of it.
  20. How are you feeling, I had the gastric bypass.
  21. I have a Sept 19th date for a revision from GB to a DS. Is there anyone in SLC area who is having surgery around this time?
  22. I got the sleeve in Dec 2016 and lost a lot of weight very quickly, about 120 lbs in maybe 6 or 7 months. Then I had some personal and professional setbacks and ended up screwing up the program and over the next few years put almost everything back on. Then last November I had revision to bypass and again the weight loss was pretty quick - not as fast as before but still very acceptable. I am now lower than the lowest weight I was with the sleeve, and have kept it off longer as well. And I continue to lose, so we'll see where the endpoint is.
  23. Can anyone tell me how your experience was in weight loss went after RNY revision. Like how fast did you lose and how much. I know everyone varies but just wondering if it is somewhat quick or slow? Thanks Sent from my SM-S906U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. 14 lbs in two weeks is excellent. I lost 16 lbs the whole first month! (not a revision - I have a virgin bypass). people tend to lose slower after revisions than they do a virgin surgery - but again, 14 lbs is quite a lot. I wouldn't throw in the towel yet...
  25. I have no experience with revision, but a lot of people on here do. All I can say is be kind to yourself and let yourself heal! You aren’t even a month out yet. Look for NSV’s, stick to your plan and what has worked for you so far. I’m sure others with more experience will be able to offer you some practical advice. Hang in there… you can do this.
