How many calories are you taking in? 2 weeks post ESG
ice75002 replied to Tela OG's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hi Tela - Tomorrow will be one week for me post ESG. I had very little complications, nausea gone within 48 hours and back working already . Per my doctor, I don’t have any restrictions but I’m pretty tired. He thought it would take 2 or 3 weeks, but more about being tired. The restrictions are much less because there is not cutting. I have zero problems with getting enough water. I do mix in vitamin water zero, and crystal light lemonade. I have no problem with getting protein. The majority through fairlife protein shakes but I’ve started to do some unflavored isopure. Without solid foods, I think it will be hard to get much more calories. But I feel like I could eat solid foods but will follow the guideline Lets keep in touch. Good luck. Oh, i have a consult tomorrow. I’m going to be asking a similar question. -
Best Fast Food Bets after Bariatric Surgery

I went to Chick-fil-A today so I have one to add. Their kids meal has a five piece grilled chicken nugget and you can get fresh fruit as a side. Also for those a little further out you can get soft serve in a cup instead of a toy and even with that and a diet lemonade it’s 370 calories. Not bad for dinner, drink and desert. Plus it’s only $6.15. As for sauce they have a Buffalo one that was 25 calories, honey mustard for 50 and bbq for 45 if you need sauce. The nuggets and the fruit alone was only 200 calories with no sauce. -

I'm nearly 3 months post op and I eat between 1100 and 1300 calories a day. I've never stalled in my post op weight loss and my surgeon, dietician and I believe it's because I eat this level of calories. -

Day 8ish- apparently what I mean by variety was a different fruit and veggie option and maybe a protein shake or bar. 😂 I counted both the shake and bar in my total calories for the day but may or may not eat them. One thermos has soup the other frozen strawberries and yogurt. The baggies are granola and roasted garbanzo beans. Took the leftover pizza with green beans and a salad with light Italian dressing. -

One of those days that i forgot to eat and suddenly realized i was pretty hungry! More random stuff from the fridge cuz i was feeling a little too hungry to wait to cook something. 314 calories, ate it all. -
Hi Everyone, I had the sleeve done in FEB 2022. I've lost a total of 30 lbs, which considering I was losing 1/2 pound a month before surgery. I'll take it! Figured I would be honest with myself, my calorie count has sneaked up from 800-1200, not every day, but most. I'm also eating carbs. I do not lose when doing carbs, they have to be few and far between. The good news is, Salads are on the menu again! That makes life so much easier and easier to avoid carbs. This is disappointing and I'm a bit surprised because I'm physically hungry most of the time! Thought I would share to see if anyone else has this problem. I need to clean my diet up, resume meditating everyday and throw out the carbs! And walk more. I have a new puppy I wasn't expecting and it has turned my world upside, but no more excuses! Good luck to all of you.

How many calories are you taking in? 2 weeks post ESG
Tela OG replied to Tela OG's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Thanks again for all the insights. Spoke to the nutritionist, I have no exercise restrictions so I’m good there. She said I just need to listen to my body when it says to stop since I am on such a low calorie diet. Weight lifting and high impact activity is aok. She was surprised my calories were as high as they have been. She said I’ve been making all the right choices and I have been averaging more protein than many of her patients. She also thinks the weight loss is appropriate so not to worry about it too much. She said she’d be surprised if I average higher than that over the next two weeks on the soft food diet. So onward and upward (or downward as we’d all like!) -

I’d avoid the strenuous workouts too. Remember your poor healing tummy & all the staples & sutures holding it together. Most of us are advised to only walk for a few weeks. Remember you also have restrictions on how much you can carry/pull. Check with your dietician re calorie. There are lots of different requirements & it is always best to follow your plan. Personally I wasn’t given any caloric goals (only portion sizes & protein & fluid goals) & by the end of my first 4 weeks I was barely eating 300 calories but that was me & all I was capable of plus not hungry or interested in food. My surgeon & dietician was okay with it as I was slowly increasing what I was eating. -

Oh, how awful for you. I hope you feel better soon Go back to your doctor & ask when you should be starting back on protein shakes & then other foods. You need protein & other nutrients for healing. The other concerns is the longer you go without popping the harder it becomes to go. You have to retrain the muscles. Even a clear liquid diet has some calories & if dehydrated has solids so there will be some waste building in your bowels. Are you drinking enough & meeting your 64oz fluid goal? -

yea - I was told nothing but walking for the first four weeks, and no strength training until eight weeks out. as far as calories, no way you could be eating very many. We were told to just count protein grams and fluids when we were early out....no calorie counting. -

Not sure you should be doing "strenuous" workouts this early out from surgery most surgeons say no workouts other than walking for 6 weeks but that is something you need to talk to your surgeon about. I had no idea how many calories I was eating in the early days but the fact that you are very limited by the amount you can eat keeps it very low. The important thing is to make sure you get enough fluid and protein in especially if you are exercising to keep your body burning fat and not muscle. -

Hi. First time poster 13 days out from ESG. The first week was super rough. I’m feeling pretty great now. I am down 12 pounds since the procedure. I’m consuming about 750 calories on average and I’m getting my 60-80 grams of protein. I have no idea how many calories I should be taking in. I am doing strenuous workouts three times a week (just started, I’m a week into it. Orange Theory for the win!). Would love some insights from the group! -
Meal ideas for all stages after surgery?
SleeverSk replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lol I like how you say I only have 1 or 2 or 3 a day lol said like a true addict ,not knocking you cause I am the same. so straight after surgery you are not really going to feel like having soda so that wont be an issue. the hard part will be when you get a few months down the track and you can try some soda to see how it goes and if it goes well then you really have to try and control that addiction again. which is where I am now . you have really answered your own question by saying its best to stay away all together for both soda and sweets. My boss has a lolly jar on his desk for staff to dip into and when I am at work I have about 200 unnecessary calories a day due to this darn lolly jar. I have asked him to get rid of it or at least hide it but he wont 😡. So yeah use the time leading up to and directly after to get these things under control and the longer you don't "try" them after surgery the better off you will be. With your water just put a dash of something in it be it juice or cordial I also used flavoured protein powers straight after surgery, it just makes it a bit easier to get down I think around the 4/6 week mark I discovered Powerade as I was just so darn thirsty and water wasn't cutting it. it was much easier to drink and has electrolytes etc in it too. I also used the flavoured protein powder in plain Greek yoghurt just gave my protein intake the boost it needed and it tasted yummy satisfied the old sweet tooth as wel -

Its dinnertime and we are too lazy too cook, so random stuff it is! deli meat, cheese, cucumbers, with flatbread & hummus (i made the hummus this morning and seasoned and baked the flatbread yesterday) 323 calories, at it all. -
Hey, I am 8 days post op today and I definitely recommend the multivitamin patch as well. My Doc doesn't have me starting the bariatric B vitamin complex till I see him at my 10 day post opp on Monday. The first 7 days post opp I had my 1 oz medicine cups and I was advised to shoot for 4 cups in an hour-so I would give myself 15 mins to finish 1oz. I kept a timer on my phone and it helps alot. I am now on thin liquids and still using the same method. Protein is key so I drank Premier clear Protein during my clears week which helped. I have not felt hunger but I noted feeling weak/fatigued, which clues me in that I am not getting enough calories in.

I'm 4 months and some post op from gastric bypass. I average about 950 calories a day although some days I can barely reach 700 and others I can have 1200. It just depends on my restriction. I always aim for 60-80 grams of protein but im happy if I can get 60 in a day. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hey, I've been through this twice, trust me those feelings will pass. After just a few months you'll be through all your phases and can start eating more "normally" again - normally meaning small portions. Every so often you can even have a comfort food in a smaller quantity. For example, I thought I'd never have pizza again, but now I can eat pizza. At first I made my own pita pizza with one spoonful of sauce and some shredded cheese, but now I can have a slice from the pizza place. Maybe two if they're small. Back in the day I'd order a pie and eat half of it. Every so often I'll get to chicken soft tacos from Taco Bell - total about 420 calories and about 7 or so ounces. I eat them slowly with no sides and it fills me up. Before I'd eat a lot more plus sides/snacks/etc. I used to love ice cream and I still do, but instead of digging into a tub of whatever from the supermarket I get Halo Top and weigh out a portion and that's enough to satisfy me. I was at a picnic the other day at my kids school and they had a barbecue food truck. I got a sandwich - large roll with pulled pork, cole slaw and sauce. I threw away the roll and ate the rest, it was delicious and filling but not overfilling. My kids like to go to Friendlys so when I take them instead of getting one of those monster supermelts I'll get a bowl of the clam chowder soup - filling and delicious and I get to eat with my family and not feel like I'm depriving myself. You don't want to feel like you're not "allowed" to eat something, because then you'll just want it more. I track every single thing that goes in my mouth so I can make sure I'm not going overboard, and I weigh everything if I can, I recommend you get in the habit of doing the same. Best of luck, you'll get through this fine, and when the lbs start coming off you're going to be very happy.

Cake, ice cream, pizza…farewell forever?
fourmonthspreop replied to Rockmantic78's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This is true. I'm 4 months post of from bypass. I dumped once after eating honey butter and some french fries...Sugar and fat put me in double jeopardy lol I avoid sugar like the plague because I don't want to dump. I can still eat pizza though in moderation. I don't eat it often but my dietician says as long as I'm getting in my protein, and staying in a calorie deficit, eat pizza! I had this problem at one time. The first key is fluids. I found water with flavor was the best. Get hydrated first. You might need something with electrolytes in it. A good one is pedi light they have it for adults as well. It's close to 2.50 a bottle. You are only going to use it when you are really low on fluids it has glucose in it ( its normallyin any drug store, walmart ect close to the over counter nausea medication). Another one I really like is "liquid IV". It's normally in the section with the flavors powders are in walmart or Amazon. I found I need the fluid on my stomach the first thing in the morning before I can tolerate protein. I drink about 4 oz but it will depend on you. I do not do protein shakes that are ready made. I found they make nausea. I use unflavored protein powder I put in water or hot tea or anything to get my protein. If my tea is not sweet enough then I add stevia . After I got enough fluids and my nausea got better then I could drink protein powder that had flavor. I had to add more water than it called for. I like hot coco with protein in 12 ozs of water instead of 8. Yes you need to wait 30mins after drinking to eat and 30 mins after eating . But you need to be well hydrated. Look at your urine and how often you urinate. I drink the 4 oz then I have the 12 oz with protein and water first thing in the morning. After the protein drinkni make I drink another 4 ozs. This gets me on my way for the day very hydrated since I did not drink anything for at least 8 hrs while I slept. Then I would eat cream of wheat, yogurt or water down oatmeal. Then sipping afterwards. Lunch I would eat a turkey sausage links or cottage cheese or two meat balls with sauce. Or baked fish chopped up. Now I have been adding soft veggies or beans for a snack. Sip between meals, wait at least 30 mins after eating. Eat only 2 or 3 oz of food at a time. Take small bits I used "diet tools" from amazon. Their spoon is the right size for a bit. Take 30 mins to eat. Bit wait a few minutes then bit again. It will get better. Listen to your body , we all are different. The fluid in the morning was the game changer for me. Plus using the Baritastic app to track everything and get my calories between 600 to 800 daily.

Over 2 month pre-op diet!?! Anyone else?
Arabesque replied to AmbiiNicole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’d compare the nutritional information & also check with your medical team just to be sure. Usually those soups are designed to be high protein low calorie like the shakes. -
What is your protein intake? That is more important then your calorie intake right now.

So I've only lost 10 pounds in 3 months. I'm supper slow at losing but I have bit been eating enough the Dr said. So I'll try to eat more. I am able to. I just thought at 7 months only eat 700 calories. He said 1000. Wow.. With that being Said my loss since Nov has only been 56 pounds. But happy to lose it! Thr oddest thing is my body feels heavier, like it was before I lost weight Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

What's your post-op diet look like? I'm clear liquids for a week, so I have Premier Protein Clear, Bone Broths, Jello, and Popsicles ready to go. My surgeon allows sugar in the first week after surgery due to calories being so low.

Non Dairy Shake and bar options
Tony B - NJ replied to sweet _smacker's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try the "Built" Bar. You can find on Amazon. It has 20 grams of protein and 130 calories. I tried the salted caramel and the coconut and they are both very good. I use these when I am going to be out for a while and do not get a chance to stop for lunch. It holds the hunger off and gives me a shot of protein.
