    ONE must know thing....

No blinders allowed. Surgery is not a magic wand. You must do appropriate work to lose weight and continue doing appropriate work to maintain the weight loss. Whether band, sleeve or bypass, people who expect the procedure to carry them through get mighty grumpy. @@SalOdyssey, que veut dire "Moderator?" I haven't seen that on BP before.

3 Days Post-Op, WI Looking for a buddy to message

Hi I'm 23 post op gastric bypass and looking for a bypass buddy. Having trouble keeping foods down. Help! 23 days that is
  3. So in short, my story is: Lap band in 2005; gastric sleeve in 2008 and LAST surgery, Bypass scheduled for 9/14/15. Been pretty tough on myself because of the past but still forging forward. Life is short, I don't want to have regrets with anything - so here's to finally working at it. would love a mentor. thank you
  4. I'm at the earliest steps of enrolling in a program that encompasses the lap band surgery. (pre/post behavioral, nutrition, exercise programs...all of which are accessible for life) (they even have cooking classes) My surgeon performs lap band and gastric bypass's exclusively and his practice is based right out of the clinic. I am one step away from signing my name on the dotted line. the only reason i have stopped??? My neurologist has concerns about the possibilities of internal complications/injury if i were to have a seizure and fall. I have been falling for many, many years and though I'm not conscious when I go down, I'm pretty sure that my face usually breaks the fall, and I am "well endowed" so I have my own airbag system. (:smile2:) I'm genuinely not as concerned about this type of complication but, I so genuinely respect my neurologist. If there is anyone out there who has had complications due to any types of falls or better yet.... if there's anyone out there with Epilepsy that has had the lap band implanted. I'll take all of the positive and negative feed back that I can get. (accept for my punctuation:rolleyes:)

    Revision surgery

a DS has a sleeved stomach and an intestinal bypass (not a gastric bypass, like the RNY - but intestinal. It bypasses a big chunk of your small intestine). It's the most powerful surgery out there - but not all surgeons do it. Plus converting RNY to DS is a very complicated surgery that few surgeons do - but there a handful who DO do it - like Dr. Rabin and Dr. Keshishian in California. although since you have bad GERD, I'm not sure if this is your best option, since the DS involves a sleeved stomach. Sleeves can often make that worse. But it might be worth talking to a surgeon about.
  6. I had the bypass on 8/4/15 and had my 2 week f/u yesterday. My doctor still wants me drinking 1oz every 5 mins and eating 1/4 of a cup. I drink all day long with the exception of 15 mins prior to eating and 30 mins after. I drink an 11oz until protein shake until I'm finished following these guidelines. With meals I eat 1/2 teaspoon every 8-10 mins making my meal last between 30-40 mins. I haven't been able to finish 1/4 cup yet. By the time I reach my last portion or so I ask myself if I still want it out of hunger or just because it's there and I realize I am satisfied so I throw it out. My main priority though is still reaching my protein and working up my water intake. Hope this helps.

    Can I damage my port????

Just a quick overview.....I had 4 port replacements last year due to faulty ports, leaking flipping and slow leaks etc....(how lucky am I LOL) I have only had my lap band since November 09 and I am just now at a good fill level for the first time ever, due to many interuptions with the ports as when they replace them you pretty much have to start all over again. Needless to say its been a long and at times painfull process...but I can add well worth it being 36.5 kilos down to date.....still more to go but hey im on my way Anyway I have been out from my last surgery almost 6 months and I have just started at the gym and seem to be going well but......when it comes to any strength workout with my stomach involved, the pain it gives up near my port makes me feel physically sick! I am just on cardio for a week to give my tummy a break but I am sooooo scared that I have or will do something to my port. I am petrafied that I will flip it or damage it in some way. How likely is something like this?? My nurse said to me that its probably just all the scar tissue surrounding it that is hurting but to be on the safe side I should take it easy as I don't seem to be the "usual case type" LOL Anyone had similar feelings when they excersize or had any good bad experiences that they want to share??? Any info and advice that people can give me is welcome

    WLS Revisions?

Thanks for the link. I wonder if there's been any other studies to see if revisions are successful for people that had a "successful" bypass, but then gained their weight back.
  9. I would be surprised if they only keep you in 1 night after a DS, it’s pretty major surgery. Here in Aus it is standard practice to keep bypass patients 3 or 4 nights. Why have you decided to go full DS straight away? It’s not a very common choice. Most people either do the sleeve and if that doesn’t work go the next step and have the DS or they have an RNY

    Size acceptance movement

Well, skyeblu, you should then read "The BIG FAT BLOG" which is one of blog sites for the size acceptance movement. They are very anti-WLS. The Size Acceptance movement itself, acknowledges that they are having trouble staying afloat as there are so many divergent views about what they should be about, as was referenced previously. As far as being tons of people who are anti WLS who aren't part of the size acceptance movement, I know, I was one of them. I have not been fat my whole life. But after trying diet after diet and gaining more and more weight, I had to give WLS a fresh look. After doing three years of research, I changed my mind about it and found it to be a viable option. Anyway, this thread is about what we think of the size acceptance movement, so that is why I specifically addressed the anti-weight loss sentiment I have found among a group of people who are also part of the size acceptance community. Are all of them anti-weight loss? No, of course not, just like our group has different opinions about what works: some in the WLS community think the Lap band is not helpful and prefer RNY, some like DS, some think Gastric bypass surgery is the way to go,etc. In any group you are going to have different views. As a multicutural female, I have been around people from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds who complain when they are discrimminated against. But it doesn't make it right for them to turn around and do the very same thing to the groups they are complaining about. My point being, as has been my point throughout this discussion, that if you want people to accept you, then accept them. I have chosen, as an overweight person, to use the tools available to me to try to overcome my weight problem. I don't realistically expect the Fat Acceptance community to embrace me, but to be accepting of my choice, as I am accepting of my overweight family and friends who are happy with their weight and choose not to have surgery or to diet. I am very surprised that I am being flamed on a lap band surgery site.

Stall out on weight week 3-4

Ugh,been burning about 250 calories at the gym (starting slow) and still nothing! Not even an oz in almost 3 weeks. I'm affraid I'm gonna be that small percentage that doesn't lose after gastric bypass. Very frustrated
  12. April 17 revision from sleeve to bypass due to GERD
  13. I'm currently waiting for a phone call to schedule my surgery date. I'll be getting a revision from sleeve to bypass for severe GERD at Kaiser Richmond. Look me up on Instagram if you all want to keep in touch there. I have a personal and a WLS account, here's both: bubbz333 (personal) & vsgbubbz (WLS). I'm much more nervous about the surgery this time around so it would help to have some people to talk to that are going through the same thing.

Lap Band to Gastric with Tricare Prime

I know Tricare Prime covers the lap band and also the gastric bypass...don't think they cover the sleeve...best wishes talkalot1981
  15. I’m one week post op today and so tired of drinking. I can’t wait to chew on something again. I have my one week follow up tmrw morning With my surgeon and hoping he will put me on full liquids. I was actually hungry yesterday and tried some 1% milk with my protein powder instead of water and I got nauseated, fast heart rate, hot flashes and sweaty. It really scared me but I jumped in here and discovered I was having dumping syndrome symptoms. I loved milk prior to the sleeve and we’re not really supposed to have dumping syndrome like the bypass peeps, allegedly from what I’ve read on the net. So that kinda sucks.
  16. I'm on the gastric bypass Facebook page daily - here not so much, maybe once a week to change my weight ticker lol
  17. Hi I had mine done on November 3rd and each day is getting better. I was terribly nauseated in the hospital, couldn’t even keep water down but that was better after the first day. I can now eat jello just a few bites and sugar free popsicles and water of course. But I was wondering what kind of broths did you like best? I can’t tell if I’m hungry or hurting at this point lol but the pain hasn’t been bad just a little sore but the nausea was the worst part of it. I am going to look for a local support group but would love some help on here also. Thanks

    Went to my primary today

I'd love more details too because in my experience with friends and coworkers I've seen more people gain back their weight a year out from bypass and still maintaining with the sleeve. What do you think caused your weight regain? Do you feel you can still lose it? Do u still feel restriction? I'm sorry this happened to you but be strong and determined!

    Appointment!

I was just looking at this thing and realized I hadn't made an entry in a long time. So, I'll record everything that's happened here. My daughter and I came to Sherman, TX the next day as I entered in my first entry. We got to her duplex about 2:00 am and she showed me around the house. Now mind you, she rented this duplex for a September 15th move in date, but when we arrived, it was still totally empty! She had moved a few of her clothes, but nothing else. So, after unloading most of the stuff from the bed of her truck, we went to Wal-mart and spent a fortune on stuff we absolutely had to have, like and air mattress to sleep on, sheets, blanket, etc. She went and got some of her personal things from the house where she was living with a room mate, but all of my furniture and big screen tv and stuff is still not here. My tv and my stereo are still at her old house and I hope her friend hasn't sold them by now! The next day I called my mom and she said my daughter had miscounted the due date of the puppies, so they shouldn't be born until the following week. :faint: Finally, on October 23rd, the following Monday evening, she started having the puppies at about 6:30 pm. She had been panting for 24 hours by this point, mind you. I was asleep when my daughter yelled at me to wake up, we had a puppy! :clap2: She said I moved faster than she had ever seen me move in her life! I got up to help and my daughter had the puppy helping our female remove the sac from around it, but she was all red eyed and crying! I said, "for Gods sake child, what are you crying about?" She told me she was crying because her baby was having babies; and she was because my daughter can't have children. I told her to stop the crying and get busy because we didn't have time to be crying! So, the dog was in labor until around 2:30 am when she finally delivered the last of the 7 puppies. We helped deliver every one of them and suctioned their little mouths and nostrils out to make sure they were breathing well. We also cut all of the umbilical cords. What a blessing to see and to be able to help her too! We have 4 males and 3 females. 1 white male and 1 white female! We were shocked because both of our dogs are fawn with flash on them. But, we didn't lose 1 puppy and we have heard that is remarkable for a first litter. Needless to say, I have been very busy cooking for our female 3 times a day. She eats hamburger meat, powdered milk, and scrambled eggs with some dog food mixed in 3 times everyday. Needless to say, she's a little spoiled! I've learned to cook for 2 meals and put it in the frig to save me some time in the kitchen. We took the puppies to the vet on the 27th and had their tails cut off. I felt really bad, but it had to be done. The vet was shocked about the 2 white ones to, but she said they were all beautiful puppies and looked healthy. Whew! What a relief. So, now it's November 14th. We took the puppies and their mom, Baylee, to the vet today. The pups had to be wormed, and Baylee has a fungus in her ear. The puppies are doing extremely well and are growing like little weeds. The white male looks like he's twice the age of the other 6. He's huge! He has a brown spot on his back, so we call him Spot, of course. We are giving my niece a puppy and made the decision which puppy we were going to give her today. We are giving her a little fawn female with white flash on her. She's just adorable. But, they all are! They are all walking around now and starting to bark and growl. They are soooo funny! It's really gonna be hard to let any of them go, but it has to be done. I'm using part of the money to pay for my co-pay on my surgery! The best thing that happened today is I finally got an appointment with Dr. David Provost in Dallas for January 4, 2007. I called his office 2 weeks ago and talked to a woman who took down some medical history and told me a nurse would probably call me the following Monday. Well, I waited all week for her to call, but no call. I even gave her all day yesterday, but no call. So, today I called back and the lady I talked to 2 weeks ago made me the appointment. Why didn't she do that 2 weeks ago? Makes ya' wonder sometimes. So, I have my consult scheduled and I'm very excited about it. I wish I could have seen him before the end of the year, but what a way to start the new year!!!! WHOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, I'm going to spend Thanksgiving here at our home alone because my daughter, Desiree, has to work. We are going to celebrate Thanksgiving on Wednesday since she has to work. I got to see my precious brother last week when he was in town, so the world is good today. I hope I can say the same next week. Sunday, the 12th, I mailed a letter to an old boyfriend of mine that I've located about an hour away from here. I hope he calls, writes, or emails, but I've decided I would always wonder what would have happened if..., so I mailed it. A really big step for me!
  22. Hi- I had gastric bypass in 2016. Lost 100lbs. Since then, I’ve gained 60 of that weight. I have an appt in couple of weeks for a revision. From what I’ve looked, they do an endoscopic revision and it’s a 15 min procedure. My question is- do we have to wait the 6 months that we did for the original gastric (per insurance) or will this not be that long of a wait? How much have you lost since the revision? Thanks everyone!
  23. I am hoping to have either a Gastric bypass or Gastric Sleeve in the near future. I had a gastric band approx 10 years ago. I have 2 questions that I really hope some kind souls may be able to advise me with or share an opinion. Question 1: Which in your opinion is the best option Gastric Bypass or Gastic sleeve.? Question 2: As I've had a gastric band before are both of these options avaiilable to me. Many thanks in advance for any help or support. I really appreciate it. Lou
  24. Seriously, that is what someone asked me today in a restaurant -- very, very loudly. Today was the first day someone really "tried" to call me out on having surgery. I have an acquaintance who works in a restaurant and when I walked in she was shocked at how much weight I have lost. I dont see her very often, so she hadn't seen the progression. And I don't eat out very often, either, so I doubt I'll be bumping into her too much. Anyways, first she was a little loud and a little rude while she was literally standing at another table and asked: "So, what, have you lost like 150 pounds or something?" I said, no, I've lost 60 (while thinking to myself that it's none of her business, but whatever). Then she comes over to my table and asks me if I had gastric bypass -- quite loudly so that other diners could hear. I was shocked. I mean, I answered no (cuz I haven't -- LOL), but when she asked me my "secret" I told her that I've just been working out like a madwoman and really, really watching what I eat. Then she asked me if my husband was happy. Seriously. I felt like telling her that my husband loves me just as much now as he did back then -- but I just sheepishly said yes, he was happy. I don't know. I'm sure I could have handled the whole thing better, but I was so taken aback. I haven't kept my surgery a total secret, but I sure as hell wasn't going to tell a mouthy loud nosey person like that any of my business. UGH! What would you have done? Thanks for letting me vent!

Best Option...Bypass or Sleeve..... Please Help.

I will be having surgery soon and I chose gastric bypass (RNY) because I was just diagnosed with T2 diabetes and the remission rates for T2 are better with RNY than sleeve. Also, I did not want to risk GERD with the sleeve and have to go through a corrective surgery later.
